Dacia van leasing starts with the load you actually carry

Dacia’s commercial choices suit a narrower task than a conventional panel-van range. Spring Cargo is worth considering when one driver, small consignments and frequent local stops define the working day. Duster Cargo adds another car-derived commercial option for buyers whose access or journey requirements differ. Neither name should be used to describe an ordinary passenger car with its rear seats folded.

The current IVF Dacia grid identifies Spring Cargo derivatives with different motor and battery labels. That is a reason to specify the model year carefully, not to combine the figures into an imaginary universal Spring. Dacia also publishes UK Duster Cargo material, although a corresponding IVF model route was not identified in this build. Ask about supply separately rather than assuming the manufacturer’s range and today’s funding catalogue are identical.

Think about the largest regular delivery, not just the average parcel. A compact body can be a practical tool where parking space and repeated short visits dominate; it becomes a poor fit if a bulky replacement part regularly forces a second journey. Before selecting either Dacia, measure the opening, the working load and the room needed to restrain it without obstructing the driver.

Dacia vans leasing: key facts

  1. Dacia’s UK Spring brochure identifies Cargo as a two-seat version with a mesh partition and load-securing rings.
  2. The Spring Cargo brochure gives 1,085 litres of cargo volume and a 1,170 mm loading length; confirm the offered model year.
  3. IVF lists both 48 kW / 27 kWh and 52 kW / 24 kWh Spring Cargo labels; specifications must be matched separately.
  4. Duster Cargo’s UK brochure describes an N1 commercial conversion and a maximum payload of 430 kg, subject to the actual version.
  5. Duster Cargo’s published headline volume and component table disagree; obtain a confirmed load drawing before a capacity-dependent order.
  6. A qualifying zero-emission van has a £0 van benefit value under current HMRC rules; this is separate from electric company-car percentages.

Dacia commercial choices: compact electric work or a larger converted body
Model line and rolePublished load benchmarkWhat to check
Spring CargoUK brochure: 1,085 litres; loading length 1,170 mmTwo-seat electric commercial. Catalogue generations differ; exact payload and battery need the matching sheet.
Duster CargoUK brochure maximum payload 430 kg; load length 1,345 mmFactory N1 conversion. Mild-hybrid 130 4x4 and hybrid 155 described in the retrieved brochure; current supply requires enquiry.

The Spring brochure’s passenger-car weight table must not be used as a Cargo payload table. Its Cargo-specific dimensions are useful for an initial fit check, but the quotation should carry the correct commercial weight schedule. The battery descriptions in IVF’s grid also differ between generations, so an older brochure’s electric figures cannot be applied to every row.

For Duster Cargo, the UK brochure describes 1,149 litres in its headline but also prints a component volume table with inconsistent units and totals. This page therefore avoids presenting a single settled cargo-volume figure. Use the load length and a physical fit assessment, then ask for the manufacturer’s corrected technical schedule. A calculation based on an unresolved table is not a substitute for that confirmation.

Spring electricity and Duster hybrids need different plans

Spring Cargo requires an external electricity supply. It makes sense to examine it alongside the place it will return at the end of a shift: where it can park, who has permission to install charging and how other vehicles will share that connection. A familiar daily round is easier to assess than an open-ended territory with unpredictable extra calls.

The Duster Cargo brochure describes mild-hybrid 130 4x4 and hybrid 155 versions. Those labels do not describe a plug-in electric van. Do not plan their operation around charging bays, and do not assume the two powertrains share the same traction system. If access to farms or worksites is the reason for choosing Duster, put that requirement ahead of cosmetic equipment and verify the offered driveline.

Give compact cargo space a realistic working layout

A useful Spring load plan starts with boxes laid out as they would be carried, including protective packaging. Include the delivery trolley, safety equipment and anything permanently left in the vehicle. An empty commercial floor can look generous until the actual working kit is installed. The ability to reach the first delivery without unloading the rest is as important as whether everything fits once.

For Duster Cargo, check the rear opening and the position of the fixed partition with the longest item aboard. Its commercial conversion includes a load floor and securing provisions; these do not turn it into a tall walk-in van. If technicians need to stand inside to work, or load palletised goods mechanically, compare a purpose-built panel van before settling on a car-derived body.

For both vehicles, a quoted maximum payload is a limit to verify, not the amount of merchandise that can always be loaded. Follow the manufacturer’s definition of unladen weight and include the people and equipment not already allowed for. A fit test should consider both mass and restraint, with space for the load to be secured through the whole journey.

Two-seat commercial use means planning people separately

Spring Cargo’s two-seat layout is a meaningful limitation for a business that occasionally sends a larger team. A requirement to carry additional colleagues cannot be solved by treating the load area as passenger space. Decide how those exceptional journeys will be handled before committing to a vehicle that otherwise suits the delivery round.

Duster Cargo must also be specified as the converted commercial product. Its brochure describes a mesh bulkhead, load floor, opaque rear glazing and disabled rear doors. Keep conversion documentation with the proposal and confirm whether additional storage will need funder consent. Do not order a passenger Duster on the assumption that an informal seat removal will create the same approved vehicle or tax result.

Business leasing, VAT and the accounts

For a small business, the useful comparison is the cost of performing the work with the correct commercial vehicle. Spring Cargo’s charging arrangements and Duster Cargo’s fuel needs belong in the same calculation as the lease agreement. Include any necessary loading equipment or fittings rather than comparing an empty vehicle with a fully prepared one.

Business Contract Hire is taken by the business; Personal Contract Hire is taken by the private individual. Both are subject to status and individual funder criteria. Compare the initial rental, term, mileage, maintenance and applicable fees on the same basis. An initial rental is part of the hire cost, not refundable security or ownership equity.

For a vehicle treated as a commercial vehicle for VAT, a VAT-registered business can normally recover VAT attributable to taxable business use, subject to the ordinary input-tax rules. Private use needs appropriate treatment, and partial exemption or the Flat Rate Scheme can change recovery. There is no automatic full reclaim just because the invoice says van. Equally, the car-rental 50% block must not simply be copied onto a genuine commercial van.

Ask your accountant to distinguish VAT classification, employment-benefit classification and business deductions. They answer different questions. Read HMRC’s motoring VAT guidance and the IVF VAT guide with the actual commercial-vehicle documents; car examples are not van rules.

Private agreements and mixed use

A personal agreement does not change the Spring Cargo into a passenger Spring. Make sure the two-seat limitation and the commercial body are suitable for every intended use, and confirm the funding provider permits that use. An individual carrying tools for work should describe the work honestly when arranging insurance and the contract.

If the vehicle is supplied by a company to an employee, the private-use question belongs in the employer’s assessment. A privately signed agreement and an employer-provided van are different arrangements. Ask for a comparison on the correct VAT basis, with the person or business taking the agreement clearly named.

Van benefit and company-vehicle tax

Spring Cargo and an ordinary Spring passenger car can have different tax treatment despite sharing a badge. Obtain the commercial registration and the relevant approval documents. Duster Cargo’s manufacturer statement of N1 homologation is useful evidence of its construction, but your accountant still needs the actual supplied vehicle and use policy to advise on tax.

An electric powertrain alone does not settle VAT recovery or benefit reporting. The compact size of Spring Cargo is equally irrelevant to those tests. Keep the commercial identity, business use and funding agreement together so the advice relates to one clearly specified vehicle rather than a mixture of passenger and Cargo literature.

For 2026/27, the standard taxable benefit for a qualifying company van available for unrestricted private use is £4,170. That is the benefit value, not the employee’s tax bill: personal tax depends on the individual’s tax rate and any permitted reductions. Employer-provided private fuel can create a separate £798 taxable benefit. These are tax amounts, not vehicle rentals.

Business journeys and ordinary commuting can fall within the restricted-private-use exemption where the conditions are met and any other private use is insignificant. A written use policy and evidence of how the vehicle is actually used matter. A sole trader using their own vehicle does not simply apply an employee benefit figure to themselves.

A qualifying zero-emission van has a £0 van benefit value under current rules. Do not substitute the electric company-car percentage for this van treatment. Conversely, an electric passenger vehicle or a pickup treated as a car does not obtain the van exemption simply because it appears in a commercial catalogue.

These van cash figures are checked for 2026/27 only. Do not hold them flat in a forecast for 2027/28, 2028/29 or 2029/30: check each year’s published rules. Where the supplied vehicle is a company car, the published zero-emission car percentages are 4%, 5%, 7% and 9% across those four years; the maximum car bands are 37%, 37%, 38% and 39%. The actual car’s CO2, fuel, P11D value and eligibility determine its band.

Check HMRC’s van benefit values, the private-use exemptions and our company-car tax guide. Tax treatment depends on individual circumstances and may change. Have your accountant confirm classification and the treatment of your agreement before ordering.

Road tax and future charges

Vehicle Excise Duty. The 2026/27 annual rate for most light goods vehicles registered from 1 March 2001 in the relevant tax class is £360. Specific older emissions classes and other registration categories can differ. Electric vans are not generally exempt. Check the V5C tax class and whether your funder passes on future increases. GOV.UK lists the light-goods rates.

Expensive Car Supplement. The car supplement does not automatically apply to an N1 goods vehicle because it has a high purchase price. Where car VED rules do apply, the 2026/27 supplement is £440 annually for five years from the second licence, above the relevant original list-price threshold: £40,000 for combustion and hybrid cars, or £50,000 for qualifying zero-emission cars registered from 1 April 2025. A company-car benefit classification does not itself change the VED class. Use the official VED tables and the registration documents.

Planned eVED. The proposed electric Vehicle Excise Duty from April 2028 covers electric and plug-in hybrid cars; vans are outside its stated scope. It is not a mileage charge currently payable on an electric van. Check the final legislation, vehicle classification and funder terms if an agreement extends beyond introduction. Read the government response.

Test a Spring route against the real charging routine

Record a representative week of Spring Cargo work, including detours, the final return journey and time parked between calls. Allow for winter conditions, heating and the actual cargo. This page gives no numerical driving-range promise because the listed battery generations require separate UK specification checks. A quoted maximum from a passenger brochure would not resolve the working-van question.

Use the tariff that the business will actually pay, including any public charging needed during a shift. A theoretical domestic overnight rate is irrelevant where a driver has no off-street parking. For Duster Cargo, record fuel use on comparable loaded journeys. The decision should include interruption to the workday as well as energy cost.

Keep the conversion and vehicle warranty together

The Duster Cargo UK brochure states that its factory conversion preserves the three-year, 60,000-mile warranty. It also describes conditional Dacia Zen cover activated by qualifying servicing, up to the stated age and mileage limits. That is different from an unconditional warranty lasting for the whole lease; confirm the terms and the vehicle’s eligibility at quotation.

For Spring Cargo, request the warranty booklet for the exact commercial model year, including the traction battery provisions. Do not infer commercial battery coverage from a general passenger-car headline. Servicing, wear items, accidental damage and a funder maintenance package are separate questions. If the van is essential every working day, establish the practical repair route and the agreement’s treatment of downtime.

How IVF builds your quotation

For a Dacia enquiry, identify Spring Cargo or Duster Cargo explicitly and attach the working load dimensions. For Spring, specify which battery-generation proposal is being discussed; for Duster, identify the commercial body and required driveline. Ask IVF to resolve those points before comparing funding terms.

Tell IVF your annual mileage, regular passengers, essential equipment, charging access where relevant and preferred timing. Ask for the precise model year, derivative, options and registration status to be written into the quotation. The catalogue is a starting point; the offered vehicle and funder terms need confirmation.

Intelligent Vehicle Finance checks the requirement against its panel of funders. A written proposal should identify the initial rental, subsequent rentals, contract length, mileage allowance, selected services and applicable fees. Assess equivalent vehicles and agreement terms together; a different body, weight class or maintenance package changes the comparison.

A manufacturer warranty starts under the supplied vehicle’s warranty terms, normally from first registration. Its time and mileage limits may finish before your lease does. It is separate from optional servicing and tyre cover. Confirm maintenance inclusions, insurance responsibilities, tax provisions and early-termination terms before signing.

At the end of contract hire, return the vehicle; there is no contractual purchase option. Excess mileage, damage beyond the funder’s fair wear and tear standard, missing equipment or other contractual charges may still be payable. Check the return process before choosing your agreement.

Prepare a Dacia brief that avoids a second vehicle search

Bring a photograph or dimension list of the largest regular load, the usual passenger count and the daily parking arrangement. These give the adviser a clearer starting point than a request for any small van. If the vehicle must enter a height-restricted car park, include that measurement too.

The next useful decision is whether the compact commercial format performs the whole job. If it does, refine the model year and agreement. If it does not, use the van-size comparisons below to consider more load space rather than forcing a Dacia into a task its body cannot accommodate.

Dacia vans leasing questions

Is Spring Cargo the same as the passenger Spring?

No. The UK brochure describes a two-seat Cargo with a mesh partition and load fittings. Specify the commercial version and its documents. Folding the rear seats of the passenger car does not make it the equivalent approved commercial vehicle.

Which Dacia vans are in IVF’s current catalogue?

The captured Dacia grid lists Spring Cargo derivatives with two different motor and battery descriptions. Dacia also publishes UK Duster Cargo material, but its presence in the manufacturer range does not prove a current IVF funding offer. Ask for the precise vehicle and availability.

How much space does Spring Cargo provide?

The retrieved UK brochure gives a Cargo volume of 1,085 litres and a loading length of 1,170 mm. These are identified brochure benchmarks. Confirm the model year, usable opening and actual working load before ordering.

Why are there two Spring Cargo battery descriptions?

The catalogue contains 48 kW / 27 kWh and 52 kW / 24 kWh labels. They need separate model-year matching. Do not transfer a range, charging or payload figure from one generation to the other.

Is Duster Cargo a genuine commercial vehicle?

Dacia’s UK Cargo brochure describes an N1 commercial conversion carried out at the factory. The proposal still needs the correct commercial specification, registration and current supply confirmation. Passenger Duster specifications are not a replacement for those documents.

How much can Duster Cargo carry?

The UK brochure quotes a maximum payload of 430 kg, dependent on specification. Its headline cargo volume and component table are inconsistent, so obtain a corrected technical schedule for a volume-dependent job rather than relying on one selected number.

Can Duster Cargo be charged like Spring Cargo?

The retrieved Duster Cargo brochure describes mild-hybrid and hybrid powertrains, not a plug-in electric van. Spring Cargo requires external charging. Confirm the exact powertrain and driveline rather than treating every hybrid badge as the same system.

Can I carry a team in Spring Cargo?

Its two-seat commercial layout limits the people it can carry. Plan additional staff journeys separately. The cargo area is for a properly secured load and must not be treated as extra passenger seating.

Does electric Spring Cargo use electric-car benefit rates?

A qualifying zero-emission van currently has a zero van benefit value. An electric passenger car follows different rules. Have your accountant confirm the supplied vehicle’s classification and the actual employment arrangement.

What should I send IVF for a Dacia quote?

Specify the Cargo model, largest load, expected mileage, passengers and parking or charging arrangements. Include the required contract length and business or personal agreement. The precise commercial version and current availability should be resolved in writing.
