Your Hyundai Tucson leasing decision

Intelligent Vehicle Finance helps business and private drivers compare Hyundai Tucson petrol, hybrid and plug-in hybrid leasing. The live route mixes model years, trim names and UK certification variants. Choose around family use and dependable charging, then confirm the exact derivative; a catalogue emissions figure alone should not determine the company-car decision.

Hyundai Tucson business and personal leasing: make the hybrid decision practical

A Tucson shortlist usually has to satisfy more than the principal driver. The same car may carry children, colleagues and luggage at different times, with little opportunity to rearrange it between trips. Choose the seating and load arrangement first. Then assess the powertrain against where the car goes and where it can realistically charge.

Tucson is not the right answer to a requirement for a battery-electric Hyundai; Ioniq 5 is the distinct route for that comparison. Kona is worth testing when the family-SUV footprint is more than your journeys require. The purpose of the Tucson page is to help you choose within a genuine SUV brief while recognising when a different model would address the task more directly.

Hyundai Tucson leasing: key facts

  • Hyundai UK’s current range announcement includes petrol, hybrid and plug-in hybrid powertrains; Tucson is not the fully electric Ioniq 5.
  • The current UK announcement identifies Element, Black Line and N Line Edition alongside N Line S and Ultimate.
  • Hyundai’s UK technical material lists a 150 PS petrol and 239 PS hybrid; the captured IVF catalogue also contains earlier labels.
  • Current UK technical references include 288 PS plug-in hybrid descriptions; older PHEV entries must be checked by model year.
  • Hyundai’s range announcement lists 40:20:40 split-folding rear seats for its specified trims; confirm the arrangement on the proposed vehicle.
  • GOV.UK: the maximum company-car BiK band is 37% in 2026/27 and 39% in 2029/30; the exact car can fall in a lower band.

Read the Tucson catalogue by model year and powertrain

IVF’s captured table is broad. It contains Element, Black Line and N Line Edition as well as Advance, Premium, N Line, N Line S and Ultimate descriptions. There are petrol manual and DCT entries, 48V MHD descriptions, full hybrids and plug-in hybrids. Front-wheel-drive and four-wheel-drive variants also appear. These are distinct catalogue identities, not one uniform current specification.

The latest Hyundai UK range announcement explains the newer trim names, while the live table continues to display earlier ones. Ask IVF to identify which model year and technical schedule apply to an offered car. An equipment feature described for a current N Line Edition cannot automatically be assigned to an earlier N Line simply because the names look similar.

Some PHEV rows include NI, while other entries carry different outputs or omit an output in the title. Have the market, registration and emissions certification checked explicitly. Do not choose a low-looking catalogue CO2 figure and apply it to every Tucson plug-in hybrid. A tax calculation is only useful when its source data belongs to the actual car on the proposal.

HEV or PHEV when several people use the car?

A non-plug-in Tucson hybrid avoids the need for drivers to connect a charging cable, which may suit a car that changes hands frequently. That does not make it fully electric or give it electric-car tax treatment. Its practical value should be assessed through the intended trips and the exact manufacturer specification, not through a generic hybrid label.

A plug-in Tucson adds a different responsibility. Decide who will connect it, when the space is available and what happens if the car returns late before another driver needs it. A charging plan that depends entirely on one person can become unreliable when the vehicle is shared. Confirm the vehicle’s charging capability and the installation requirements with the relevant provider.

Consider long journeys as well as local travel. A weighted PHEV fuel-consumption figure is not a prediction for a day of continuous motorway driving, and a published electric range is not a fixed distance in every season. If the electric element will rarely be used, revisit whether the added charging commitment is helping the business or household in practice.

The family test: seats, loads and daily access

Assess the Tucson with the people and objects it will actually carry. Set the front seats for the regular adults, install any child seats and check rear access in a realistic parking bay. A seat layout that works with empty chairs may be less convenient once a child seat, a tall driver and a passenger’s work bag are involved.

The split-folding arrangement is useful only if it supports your combinations of people and equipment. Try the longest item with the necessary seats still occupied, and consider how it will be secured. Confirm the arrangement for the quoted model year. An advertised folding ratio does not establish that every bulky object can travel safely or that the boot is unchanged across powertrains.

Check tailgate clearance where you park and where charging leads would be kept in a PHEV. If an electric tailgate, specific seat heating or a camera system matters, write it into the brief. These practical requirements are easier to compare than a broad preference for a high trim, especially when the catalogue mixes several generations of trim names.

Separate the employee’s tax from the vehicle’s usefulness

A Tucson PHEV can warrant a detailed company-car comparison, but the result depends on its documents and the years covered by the agreement. Do not treat the first percentage shown online as a fixed benefit for the full term. Newer emissions certification can also make the relationship between a catalogue figure and the tax calculation less straightforward.

Ask for P11D, certified CO2, electric range, registration date and Euro-status information together. Your accountant can then check whether an easement applies and what changes in later tax years. An easement for employment benefits does not automatically alter road tax or the business’s lease-hire deduction position. Keep those different calculations visible in the comparison.

Hyundai Tucson company-car tax across the lease

Tucson requires particular care because the route mixes older and newer PHEV descriptions, including NI-labelled entries. Use the vehicle’s certified data rather than transferring a catalogue CO2 figure between rows. The conditional hybrid bands below illustrate the framework; no rate is assigned to an unidentified Tucson.

The employee’s starting taxable benefit uses the Tucson’s P11D multiplied by the relevant percentage; income-tax liability then follows the individual’s rate and adjustments. Neither the monthly contract figure nor an HEV badge determines that percentage. Sole traders require a different business-use assessment.

These are conditional tax bands, not assigned rates for every Hyundai Tucson. Confirm the supplied car’s P11D, certified CO2, fuel type and registration date. Diesel supplements can apply where the required emissions certification is absent, subject to the annual maximum.

The electric-mile figures above are HMRC band thresholds, not promises of this car’s driving range. Newer plug-in hybrid certification can show more than 50 g/km. A temporary company-car easement may treat an eligible car as 1 g/km where the registration date, electric range and Euro-status conditions are met; it is not automatic and must not be transferred to lease-rental deductions. Check the vehicle documents and HMRC’s plug-in hybrid conditions with your accountant.

Use our company-car BiK guide alongside HMRC’s 2026/27 and 2027/28 tables and the published 2028/29 and 2029/30 changes. Tax information checked 24 September 2026 against the C1 ledger and its primary sources. Tax treatment depends on individual circumstances and may change; consult your accountant.

Road tax and costs across the term

Vehicle Excise Duty (VED). Tucson first-year VED requires its own certified CO2 and registration data; a BiK easement does not settle it. The standard annual payment afterward is £200 in 2026/27 before supplements. Have the funder explain any later tax increases.

Expensive Car Supplement. The Tucson’s relevant original list price, including applicable options, is tested against £40,000. Above that threshold the supplement is £440 a year in 2026/27, for five years starting with the second licence. Neither HEV nor PHEV receives the zero-emission list-price threshold. Check GOV.UK vehicle-tax rules.

Planned eVED. Tucson PHEVs fall within planned eVED at an initial 1.5p per mile from April 2028; petrol and non-plug-in hybrids do not. It would sit alongside VED and remains subject to legislation and implementation. CPI uprating is proposed from 2029/30. Confirm responsibility for recording mileage and paying the resulting charge. Read the eVED proposal.

VAT and the business accounts

VAT-registered businesses can normally reclaim 50% of the VAT on qualifying car rentals where private use is available, depending on circumstances and the normal VAT rules. Full rental-VAT recovery requires exclusive business use with no private availability. Maintenance can fall outside the rental block when it is genuinely optional, separately described in the contract and separately quantified on the invoice; recovery remains subject to normal VAT rules. Read HMRC’s motoring VAT guidance.

The hire-cost rules normally disallow 15% of otherwise deductible rentals for cars above 50 g/km, subject to their scope and exceptions. A company-car BiK easement does not establish relief from this restriction. Check HMRC’s car-hire deduction rules.

For accounting periods beginning on or after 1 January 2026, revised FRS 102 generally requires a right-of-use asset and lease liability for lessees, including small companies using Section 1A. FRS 105 lease accounting for eligible micro-entities was not changed in the same way. Contract hire therefore does not universally keep a car off the balance sheet. Ask your accountant to apply the right framework; HMRC summarises the accounting standards.

Flat Rate Scheme users generally cannot reclaim VAT on recurring car-hire payments. Ask your accountant which VAT regime applies before using the recovery examples above.

Build the quotation around the way you will use it

Tell IVF your annual mileage, regular passengers, essential equipment, charging access where relevant and preferred timing. Ask for the precise model year, derivative, options and registration status to be written into the quotation. The catalogue is a starting point; the offered vehicle and funder terms need confirmation.

Business Contract Hire is taken by the business; Personal Contract Hire is taken by the private individual. Both are subject to status and individual funder criteria. Compare the initial rental, term, mileage, maintenance and applicable fees on the same basis. An initial rental is part of the hire cost, not refundable security or ownership equity.

A manufacturer warranty starts under the supplied car’s warranty terms, normally from first registration. Its time and mileage limits may finish before your lease does. It is separate from optional servicing and tyre cover. Confirm maintenance inclusions, insurance responsibilities, tax provisions and early-termination terms before signing.

At the end of contract hire, return the vehicle; there is no contractual purchase option. Excess mileage, damage beyond the funder’s fair wear and tear standard, missing equipment or other contractual charges may still be payable. Check the return process before choosing your agreement.

Hyundai Tucson leasing questions

Can I compare Tucson business and personal leasing with IVF?

Yes, subject to vehicle confirmation, status and individual funder criteria. Explain who will take the agreement and how the car will be used. Business private-use tax and a private household’s contract costs are separate decisions and should not be blended.

What is the difference between Tucson HEV and PHEV?

The HEV does not require external charging. The PHEV should be assessed around regular plugging in and its specific battery and charging capability. Both retain petrol propulsion. For a fully electric Hyundai family-car comparison, use the Ioniq 5 route.

Why are so many Tucson trim names listed?

The route contains a mix of catalogue specifications, including newer Element, Black Line and N Line Edition descriptions alongside earlier names. Confirm the model year and equipment schedule for the proposed car rather than assuming similarly named trims are equivalent.

Do NI-labelled PHEV entries have the same tax data?

Do not assume that. Ask for the exact market specification and registration documents, including CO2 and Euro status. The captured table includes different certification-related entries; the company-car calculation must be based on the actual offered vehicle.

Is a Tucson PHEV always four-wheel drive?

The route contains different driven-wheel descriptions. Confirm the full derivative before relying on AWD or 4WD, and check any towing requirement separately against the vehicle’s approved limits. A powertrain or trim name alone does not settle either point.

How should I compare Tucson with Kona?

Test whether a different crossover footprint meets your passenger and parking requirements. Compare the exact powertrains as well as cabin layout. The choice should follow the daily family or staff task, rather than assuming the larger SUV is always needed.

When is Ioniq 5 the relevant alternative?

When you want a fully electric family car and can support the journeys with a charging plan. Tucson’s plug-in hybrid proposition retains petrol. Consider cabin, luggage and charging routines together before deciding which approach works for your household or business.

Can I rely on the catalogue PHEV emissions figure?

Use it as a prompt for verification, not the final tax evidence. Obtain the particular car’s certified CO2, electric range, registration date and emissions standard. Different model years or market specifications can require different treatment.

What equipment should I specify for a Tucson enquiry?

Name the features that affect everyday use, such as the required parking aids, seating functions, tailgate arrangement and luggage configuration. Add powertrain and driven-wheel requirements. Have essential items recorded in the written specification rather than inferred from a display photograph.

Will Tucson company-car tax remain unchanged through a lease?

No fixed percentage is implied. The applicable rate depends on the vehicle and tax year, including published changes for qualifying hybrids from 2028/29. Ask your accountant to assess the complete path and keep employment-tax easements separate from other tax rules.
