Two INEOS commercial shapes answer different working needs

An INEOS enquiry starts with the body. The enclosed Grenadier commercial format keeps equipment within the vehicle, while Quartermaster provides a separate pickup bed behind a double cab. Both are substantially different from a conventional delivery van. The useful comparison is between the loads, access and terrain you encounter, rather than simply between equipment editions.

UK naming requires care. INEOS introduced Grenadier Commercial in 2024 as the UK replacement for the two-seat Utility Wagon, while its wider current website and retrieved UK brochure still use Utility Wagon terminology. Do not assume that every Grenadier in a catalogue has the same seats, conversion, approval or usable load area. Ask for the UK commercial vehicle to be identified expressly.

Quartermaster also has a chassis-cab proposition in the retrieved UK price list. That provides a starting point for a specialist body, not an already completed tipper or service vehicle. IVF’s model routes help narrow the enquiry, but the supplied construction and final approval must determine whether a particular vehicle suits the business.

INEOS commercial vehicles leasing: key facts

  1. Grenadier Commercial and Quartermaster need separate enclosed-body and pickup assessments.
  2. The January 2025 UK brochure lists two-seat Utility Wagon payloads of 796–871 kg without a driver, depending on diesel or petrol power.
  3. That brochure gives the two-seat Utility Wagon 2,088 litres behind the first row; current UK Commercial mapping must be confirmed.
  4. Its Quartermaster benchmarks are 760–835 kg without a driver and a 1,564 mm bed-floor length.
  5. Current Quartermaster web material quotes up to 857 kg; this differs from the older brochure and is not interchangeable across model years.
  6. INEOS quotes up to 3,500 kg braked towing for these formats; actual vehicle, coupling and combination limits apply.
  7. A pickup’s VAT classification and employment-benefit treatment require separate checks.

These figures come from the brochure marked 01.25.UK, so they are dated comparison points rather than a promise about every current quotation. Payload is explicitly stated without a driver. People, equipment and any additions must therefore be addressed before treating the number as a goods allowance.

The commercial catalogue can contain names shared with passenger vehicles. A five-seat Station Wagon, a UK Commercial conversion and a Quartermaster should never inherit each other’s tax or load assumptions. For any proposal, compare the seating, Certificate of Conformity, plated weights and invoice description together.

Match the petrol or diesel derivative to its workload

The retrieved UK INEOS material describes petrol and diesel engines. Compare the exact engine and body combination rather than applying one loading figure across the range: the brochure’s diesel examples have different kerb weights from the petrol versions. A preference for one fuel therefore has practical consequences beyond refuelling cost.

Consider how often the vehicle will tow, how far it will travel between jobs and how much time it will spend at low speed on site. Off-road equipment needs an identified use. It does not remove the need for appropriate training, tyres and permission to access the route. No electric INEOS commercial alternative is assumed in this comparison.

Check the load opening as well as the published volume

For enclosed Grenadier goods space, bring the largest case or a measured drawing to the assessment. The brochure distinguishes luggage length, floor length and width between the wheel arches. Those measurements describe different parts of the interior and must not be combined into an imaginary rectangular box that every load can occupy.

The two-seat Utility Wagon reference has a 1,064 mm floor width between the wheel arches. Quartermaster’s corresponding brochure bed width is 1,137 mm, with a wider maximum elsewhere. Check the orientation, restraint points and loading method for the actual item. A bed cover or storage system can reduce the space available even when the base vehicle’s external dimensions stay the same.

Where towing is essential, write down the laden trailer and vehicle masses. The brochure gives a 7,000 kg gross train weight for the referenced versions, but options, axle loads and nose weight still need checking. Do not select a vehicle from the towing headline and leave the full equipment list until after ordering.

Resolve seats and conversion responsibility early

A two-seat commercial vehicle is a poor fit if the team routinely needs another row of seats. Conversely, retaining passenger accommodation reduces the enclosed space available for goods and can change the classification question. Identify the maximum regular crew before deciding whether Grenadier Commercial or Quartermaster offers the more suitable layout.

For a specialist Quartermaster body, request the converter’s drawings, weight estimate and approval route. Establish which organisation supplies and warrants the body, and whether the funder accepts it. A chassis-cab quotation must eventually describe a complete, registrable vehicle with a known carrying allowance; a bare-chassis specification cannot answer those questions.

Business leasing, VAT and the accounts

An INEOS business proposal should state whether it covers UK Grenadier Commercial, a pickup or a completed conversion. Give the accountant those documents rather than a broad model name. The relevant tax tests can produce different answers even where two vehicles share an engine and brand badge.

Business Contract Hire is taken by the business; Personal Contract Hire is taken by the private individual. Both are subject to status and individual funder criteria. Compare the initial rental, term, mileage, maintenance and applicable fees on the same basis. An initial rental is part of the hire cost, not refundable security or ownership equity.

For a vehicle treated as a commercial vehicle for VAT, a VAT-registered business can normally recover VAT attributable to taxable business use, subject to the ordinary input-tax rules. Private use needs appropriate treatment, and partial exemption or the Flat Rate Scheme can change recovery. There is no automatic full reclaim just because the invoice says van. Equally, the car-rental 50% block must not simply be copied onto a genuine commercial van.

Ask your accountant to distinguish VAT classification, employment-benefit classification and business deductions. They answer different questions. Read HMRC’s motoring VAT guidance and the IVF VAT guide with the actual commercial-vehicle documents; car examples are not van rules.

Private agreements and mixed use

For a private agreement, explain any work use, site access and towing to the funder and insurer. A commercial body can be useful outside a company fleet, but the contractual permissions and suitability still need to match its intended use. Check whether fitted equipment can remain at return or must be removed.

If the vehicle is provided by a business and taken home by an employee, establish the private-use policy separately. Choosing a two-seat body or describing the vehicle as a workhorse is not itself evidence that the benefit exemption applies. Actual construction and permitted use matter.

Van benefit and company-vehicle tax

Quartermaster is a double-cab pickup. HMRC’s employment-benefit guidance from 6 April 2025 assesses such vehicles as a whole and expects most to be cars. Do not apply the zero or fixed van benefit treatment simply because the pickup is marketed for business. See the current pickup guidance.

Qualifying earlier purchases, leases or orders can have transitional protection until the earliest relevant disposal, lease expiry or 5 April 2029. A fresh lease must not assume that protection. VAT uses a separate commercial-vehicle test, and the sub-tonne payloads shown in the referenced INEOS brochure make blanket VAT assurances particularly inappropriate. Ask for advice on the completed vehicle and any body additions.

For 2026/27, the standard taxable benefit for a qualifying company van available for unrestricted private use is £4,170. That is the benefit value, not the employee’s tax bill: personal tax depends on the individual’s tax rate and any permitted reductions. Employer-provided private fuel can create a separate £798 taxable benefit. These are tax amounts, not vehicle rentals.

Business journeys and ordinary commuting can fall within the restricted-private-use exemption where the conditions are met and any other private use is insignificant. A written use policy and evidence of how the vehicle is actually used matter. A sole trader using their own vehicle does not simply apply an employee benefit figure to themselves.

A qualifying zero-emission van has a £0 van benefit value under current rules. Do not substitute the electric company-car percentage for this van treatment. Conversely, an electric passenger vehicle or a pickup treated as a car does not obtain the van exemption simply because it appears in a commercial catalogue.

These van cash figures are checked for 2026/27 only. Do not hold them flat in a forecast for 2027/28, 2028/29 or 2029/30: check each year’s published rules. Where the supplied vehicle is a company car, the published zero-emission car percentages are 4%, 5%, 7% and 9% across those four years; the maximum car bands are 37%, 37%, 38% and 39%. The actual car’s CO2, fuel, P11D value and eligibility determine its band.

Check HMRC’s van benefit values, the private-use exemptions and our company-car tax guide. Tax treatment depends on individual circumstances and may change. Have your accountant confirm classification and the treatment of your agreement before ordering.

Road tax and future charges

Vehicle Excise Duty. The 2026/27 annual rate for most light goods vehicles registered from 1 March 2001 in the relevant tax class is £360. Specific older emissions classes and other registration categories can differ. Electric vans are not generally exempt. Check the V5C tax class and whether your funder passes on future increases. GOV.UK lists the light-goods rates.

Expensive Car Supplement. The car supplement does not automatically apply to an N1 goods vehicle because it has a high purchase price. Where car VED rules do apply, the 2026/27 supplement is £440 annually for five years from the second licence, above the relevant original list-price threshold: £40,000 for combustion and hybrid cars, or £50,000 for qualifying zero-emission cars registered from 1 April 2025. A company-car benefit classification does not itself change the VED class. Use the official VED tables and the registration documents.

Planned eVED. The proposed electric Vehicle Excise Duty from April 2028 covers electric and plug-in hybrid cars; vans are outside its stated scope. It is not a mileage charge currently payable on an electric van. Check the final legislation, vehicle classification and funder terms if an agreement extends beyond introduction. Read the government response.

Budget for the actual terrain and towing pattern

Fuel planning should include the journey to the worksite, time operating on it and the return with the expected load. An unladen motorway figure cannot describe all of those conditions. Compare petrol and diesel proposals using the same distance and workload, including the trailer where it is part of normal operations.

Avoid treating occasional off-road capability as a reason to overlook everyday access. Check parking length, turning space and loading height at the locations visited most often. If an enclosed panel van can complete the same work more conveniently, include it in the comparison before committing to an INEOS format.

Keep INEOS vehicle cover and conversion cover distinct

INEOS’s current UK material describes a five-year unlimited-mileage vehicle warranty, subject to terms. Confirm the applicable start date, service requirements and booklet for the supplied vehicle. A warranty term is not a guarantee of uninterrupted availability, and it does not automatically cover every fitting added after manufacture.

For UK Commercial or a specialist body, identify the conversion supplier and obtain its separate cover. Ask who diagnoses a problem at the boundary between the base vehicle and installation. Agree a service location and maintenance approach before ordering, particularly where the business depends on the vehicle to reach remote jobs.

How IVF builds your quotation

For INEOS, provide the desired body, crew count, heaviest equipment and trailer details. Ask IVF to identify the exact UK derivative and any converter in writing. Include an explanation of site use and the maximum acceptable vehicle downtime when considering maintenance and support arrangements.

Tell IVF your annual mileage, regular passengers, essential equipment, charging access where relevant and preferred timing. Ask for the precise model year, derivative, options and registration status to be written into the quotation. The catalogue is a starting point; the offered vehicle and funder terms need confirmation.

Intelligent Vehicle Finance checks the requirement against its panel of funders. A written proposal should identify the initial rental, subsequent rentals, contract length, mileage allowance, selected services and applicable fees. Assess equivalent vehicles and agreement terms together; a different body, weight class or maintenance package changes the comparison.

A manufacturer warranty starts under the supplied vehicle’s warranty terms, normally from first registration. Its time and mileage limits may finish before your lease does. It is separate from optional servicing and tyre cover. Confirm maintenance inclusions, insurance responsibilities, tax provisions and early-termination terms before signing.

At the end of contract hire, return the vehicle; there is no contractual purchase option. Excess mileage, damage beyond the funder’s fair wear and tear standard, missing equipment or other contractual charges may still be payable. Check the return process before choosing your agreement.

Build an INEOS shortlist from the load and crew

Choose the enclosed body or pickup first, then use a measured loading plan to test it. Request a current UK specification for the offered vehicle wherever the older brochure or generic website leaves a question. That is particularly important for the Commercial naming and the changed Quartermaster payload headline.

Use the linked model pages to focus the discussion. A catalogue entry establishes a route for enquiry; the quotation must still confirm current supply, configuration and funder acceptance. Keep conversion drawings and the tax assessment with the proposal so everyone is considering the same vehicle.

INEOS commercial vehicles leasing questions

Which INEOS commercial body should I compare first?

Start with Grenadier Commercial for enclosed goods space or Quartermaster for a separate pickup bed and double cab. A chassis-cab conversion is a further specification exercise. Choose around the load and crew before comparing equipment.

Is every Grenadier a commercial vehicle?

No. Passenger Station Wagon specifications must not be applied automatically to UK Commercial or Utility Wagon variants. Check the actual seating, construction, approval documents and derivative offered by the supplier.

Why do Commercial and Utility Wagon names both appear?

INEOS announced UK Grenadier Commercial in 2024 as the replacement for the two-seat Utility Wagon. Retrieved UK and wider website material still includes Utility Wagon references. Ask for the current UK conversion and derivative to be stated explicitly.

How much space does the two-seat brochure show?

The January 2025 UK brochure gives the two-seat Utility Wagon 2,088 litres behind the first row. That is a dated reference, not confirmation of every UK Commercial conversion. Check the supplied vehicle’s opening, floor and completed specification.

What is the Quartermaster payload?

The January 2025 brochure lists 760–835 kg without a driver, while the current website quotes up to 857 kg. These figures have different version scopes. Obtain the offered model year’s weights and allow for occupants and additions.

Can I order a Quartermaster with a specialist body?

The retrieved UK price list includes a chassis-cab proposition. A specialist body still needs its own availability, funder acceptance, weight calculation, approval and warranty checks. Do not treat a chassis listing as a completed conversion offer.

Can an INEOS tow 3,500 kg?

INEOS publishes that maximum for the referenced formats. The actual derivative, trailer, coupling, axle loads and combination limits must all be checked. A headline towing limit does not replace a laden vehicle assessment.

Is Quartermaster automatically a van for tax?

No. Double-cab pickups have separate employment-benefit and VAT assessments. Most are treated as cars for employment benefits under the rules from 6 April 2025. Ask your accountant to review the supplied vehicle and any applicable transition.

Does INEOS warranty include every conversion?

The UK vehicle warranty headline is five years with unlimited mileage, subject to terms. Conversion and accessory cover can be separate. Establish who warrants each part and which service requirements apply to the complete vehicle.

What information helps IVF quote an INEOS?

Provide the body and crew requirement, measured load, trailer details, annual mileage and intended site use. Identify any conversion and private use. Ask for the UK derivative, completed weights and funding terms in one proposal.

Discuss the INEOS body your work requires

Bring the crew, load and towing plan so the proposed vehicle can be checked as a complete specification.
