Intelligent Vehicle Finance helps business and private drivers compare Maserati Grecale contract hire. Choose between petrol and electric Folgore powertrains, then confirm the model year and equipment behind each listing. The Modena name covers different engines, so a written specification matters as much as the contract terms.
The Grecale suits a driver who wants the Maserati identity in an SUV they will use for ordinary working days as well as longer journeys. The real choice is not simply between trim names. A petrol mild hybrid, a V6 and an electric Folgore involve different refuelling routines, company-car calculations and ownership responsibilities across a lease. Decide which arrangement fits your week before choosing finishes or wheels.
For a director, calculate Folgore separately from petrol versions. Without dependable charging, petrol may be easier to accommodate. Test rear-seat comfort, parking access and insurance before choosing; the five-seat Grecale does not answer a third-row requirement.
Grecale, Macan and X3: compare the task before the badge
| Route | Why compare it? | Question to resolve |
|---|---|---|
| Maserati Grecale | Maserati SUV with petrol and Folgore alternatives | Which engine and model year does the quotation specify? |
| Porsche Macan | Alternative SUV route for electric driving priorities | Does the quoted version fit your charging and passenger routine? |
| BMW X3 | Alternative business and family SUV shortlist | Which powertrain, equipment and tax position meet your brief? |
The September capture includes 48V MHEV 300, 48V MHEV 330 Modena, Modena Lumina, Modena Sport, V6 390 Modena and V6 Trofeo descriptions. Electric entries include 410kW Folgore 105kWh and a Folgore Extended Range description. Several names recur, sometimes with an NI suffix. Treat those as separate catalogue entries until IVF identifies the model year, registration territory, equipment and funder behind them.
Maserati’s current UK range presents the mild-hybrid Grecale alongside V6 Modena, Trofeo and Folgore. Its Modena page also refers to the 330 HP mild hybrid. That overlap makes an engine description essential: a quotation marked only Modena is insufficient. We would ask for the full order description and manufacturer specification before comparing two offers with the same badge.
Lumina, Modena Sport and Extended Range should not be treated as independently verified current UK factory grades simply because they appear in a ratebook. Ask what each label means for the actual car. Likewise, an NI entry needs territory and registration clarification; do not assume it is an identical mainland UK proposition. The grid displays rental figures, while this guide explains the decisions needed to interpret a quotation.
A mild-hybrid Grecale still uses petrol and does not give you the charging routine of a plug-in car. It is a different proposition from the Folgore. On a test drive, concentrate on the driving you repeat: a cold start, stop-start traffic, the approach to your office and a longer road section. A short demonstration on an empty road cannot answer those questions.
The V6 Modena and Trofeo are options for someone who actively values that engine configuration. Request an insurance quotation against the exact derivative before making performance the deciding factor. Check tyre dimensions, replacement costs and any maintenance exclusions at the same time. Those are practical recurring commitments, even when a lease removes the task of selling the vehicle later.
For Folgore, begin with where the car will charge overnight and what happens when that location is unavailable. A public charging point near the office is useful only if it is accessible when you need it. We have not applied a current manufacturer range figure to every 105kWh catalogue entry: model year, wheels and the precise battery specification must match before a driving-range or charging-time claim belongs in your decision.
Five seats do not tell you how well the Grecale works with your usual passengers. Set the driving position first, then sit behind it. If you carry children, take the appropriate child restraints to a demonstration and check the vehicle handbook for approved positions. If you regularly travel with colleagues, let them try entry, headroom and the rear seating position rather than judging from photographs.
Write down the dimensions of your parking space, including the approach and room for opening doors. Ask for the quoted version’s width with mirrors and check visibility during a manoeuvre. Wheel and tyre choices can change the feel of a demonstration car, so record which wheels were fitted. Do not assume an optional seat, camera or assistance feature shown online is standard on an older grid entry.
The Porsche Macan route is a useful comparison for a driver exploring an electric performance-oriented SUV. The BMW X3 offers another approach to a business and family SUV shortlist. Compare a specific version of each rather than equating a model name with one engine or equipment package. The table frames the questions to take to a demonstration; it does not rank cars by an unsupported score.
Maserati’s European aftersales documentation describes a 36-month unlimited-mileage contractual warranty. Obtain the UK warranty booklet and activation date for the offered Grecale, with separate battery terms for Folgore. An extension programme is a separate product with eligibility and coverage rules; its name is not evidence that every component is protected for the whole agreement.
Before choosing the term, identify the nearest appropriate service location and ask how planned maintenance will be arranged. A business with one director’s car may need a different downtime plan from a household with another vehicle. Ask who handles a fault, whether any replacement transport is included and what exclusions apply. Those answers should appear in the relevant documents, not be inferred from the manufacturer badge.
Grecale needs two company-car calculations: petrol and zero-emission Folgore. The captured petrol entries with stated CO2 are well above the maximum-band threshold, but the quoted vehicle’s certificate controls. Do not apply electric-car bands to the 48V mild hybrid.
Taxable car benefit normally uses P11D value and the applicable percentage; personal tax then depends on the individual’s tax rate and adjustments. The lease rental is not the calculation base. Check every tax year covered by the agreement with your accountant.
Company-car BiK benchmarks, 2026/27 to 2029/30
| Tax specification | 2026/27 | 2027/28 | 2028/29 | 2029/30 |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Zero-emission Folgore, subject to vehicle confirmation | 4% | 5% | 7% | 9% |
| Petrol Grecale at the annual maximum band | 37% | 37% | 38% | 39% |
These are conditional tax bands, not assigned rates for every Maserati Grecale. Confirm the supplied car’s P11D, certified CO2, fuel type and registration date. Diesel supplements can apply where the required emissions certification is absent, subject to the annual maximum.
Use our company-car BiK guide alongside HMRC’s 2026/27 and 2027/28 tables and the published 2028/29 and 2029/30 changes. Tax information checked 28 September 2026 against GOV.UK and HMRC. Tax treatment depends on individual circumstances and may change; consult your accountant.
Vehicle Excise Duty (VED). For 2026/27, annual VED after year one is £200 before supplements. First-year VED depends on CO2 and registration; zero-emission cars pay £10. Later cash rates are not confirmed here. Check the funder’s treatment of increases.
Expensive Car Supplement. The £440 annual supplement lasts five years from year two. List-price thresholds, including relevant options before discounts, are over £40,000 for petrol, diesel and hybrid cars, and over £50,000 for zero-emission cars registered from 1 April 2025. Registration date matters. Plug-in hybrids use the £40,000 threshold. Check GOV.UK’s VED rules.
Planned eVED. eVED is planned from April 2028 alongside VED, subject to legislation and implementation: 3p per mile for electric cars and 1.5p for plug-in hybrids. It is not currently charged. CPI uprating is proposed from 2029/30; later cash rates are unconfirmed. Check the funder’s treatment and the government’s consultation response.
VAT-registered businesses can normally reclaim 50% of the VAT on qualifying car rentals where private use is available, depending on circumstances and the normal VAT rules. Full rental-VAT recovery requires exclusive business use with no private availability. Maintenance can fall outside the rental block when it is genuinely optional, separately described in the contract and separately quantified on the invoice; recovery remains subject to normal VAT rules. Read HMRC’s motoring VAT guidance.
Businesses using the VAT Flat Rate Scheme do not normally recover input VAT on recurring car hire. The separate capital-goods exception does not turn hire invoices into a vehicle purchase. Check HMRC’s Flat Rate Scheme guidance.
The hire-cost rules normally disallow 15% of otherwise deductible rentals for cars above 50 g/km, subject to their scope and exceptions. A company-car BiK easement does not establish relief from this restriction. Check HMRC’s car-hire deduction rules.
For accounting periods beginning on or after 1 January 2026, revised FRS 102 generally requires a right-of-use asset and lease liability for lessees, including small companies using Section 1A. FRS 105 lease accounting for eligible micro-entities was not changed in the same way. Contract hire therefore does not universally keep a car off the balance sheet. Ask your accountant to apply the right framework; HMRC summarises the accounting standards.
Tell IVF your annual mileage, regular passengers, essential equipment, charging access where relevant and preferred timing. Ask for the precise model year, derivative, options and registration status to be written into the quotation. The catalogue is a starting point; the offered vehicle and funder terms need confirmation.
Business Contract Hire is taken by the business; Personal Contract Hire is taken by the private individual. Both are subject to status and individual funder criteria. Compare the initial rental, term, mileage, maintenance and applicable fees on the same basis. An initial rental is part of the hire cost, not refundable security or ownership equity.
A manufacturer warranty starts under the supplied car’s warranty terms, normally from first registration. Its time and mileage limits may finish before your lease does. It is separate from optional servicing and tyre cover. Confirm maintenance inclusions, insurance responsibilities, tax provisions and early-termination terms before signing.
At the end of contract hire, return the vehicle; there is no contractual purchase option. Excess mileage, damage beyond the funder’s fair wear and tear standard, missing equipment or other contractual charges may still be payable. Check the return process before choosing your agreement.
Use Maserati leasing, Porsche Macan leasing, BMW X3 leasing, company-car tax guide, electric car leasing to narrow your choice or discuss a quotation.
IVF can discuss both routes, subject to funder criteria and confirmation of the offered car. For Grecale, include the full engine description in the enquiry: Modena alone does not identify one powertrain. Give your mileage, intended use and essential equipment so the comparison starts with equivalent cars.
Yes. Folgore is the electric Grecale; the petrol mild hybrids are a separate choice. Check that the model year, battery, wheels and equipment on a quoted Folgore match the specifications being discussed. A newer manufacturer headline should not be transferred automatically to an older catalogue entry.
No. Maserati’s UK page describes both a 330 HP mild-hybrid Modena and the 390 HP V6, and IVF lists both kinds of description. Ask for engine capacity, fuel type and the complete derivative name in writing before deciding that two Modena quotations are comparable.
It is a catalogue distinction that needs clarification from IVF and the funder. Confirm registration territory, eligibility, model year and delivery arrangements for that specific entry. It should not be interpreted as a different engine or as proof that the offer applies everywhere in the UK.
The current Maserati UK Grecale is a five-seat SUV. If your normal journeys require a third row, this model does not answer that need. For five-person use, still test the rear seating position and luggage arrangement with the passengers and equipment you actually carry.
Compare the actual P11D, certified emissions and multi-year tax path alongside charging access and journey length. Folgore uses the zero-emission car bands; petrol mild hybrids do not. Your employer’s policy and an accountant’s calculation should inform the decision alongside the driving experience.
Use it as a prompt to ask for the exact manufacturer specification. The name in the grid does not establish a battery change or a particular real-world distance. Confirm its model year and equipment before using range or charging figures to plan regular journeys.
The chosen vehicle, options, agreement length, annual mileage, initial rental structure and maintenance choice influence the written quotation. Ask IVF to set out those assumptions together. Keep them consistent when comparing a petrol Grecale with a Folgore or another SUV.
Do not assume either is included. Check any optional maintenance package, manufacturer servicing requirements and your responsibility for insurance. Performance-oriented wheels and tyres deserve particular attention when reviewing inclusions and exclusions. The funder’s written agreement determines the contractual position.
Check the funder’s mileage allowance, return standard and collection process. Keep servicing records and account for keys, charging equipment where supplied and other original items. Damage or missing equipment can create charges; ask about the process well before the agreement ends.
Bring your passenger, journey and equipment requirements. We can help turn them into a clear vehicle and contract brief.
