Intelligent Vehicle Finance helps business and private drivers compare Mazda 6e leasing. The UK Mazda6e uses a 78kWh battery and offers Takumi and Takumi Plus specifications, distinct from earlier overseas versions. Assess the cabin, hatchback loading and charging routine against your journeys before choosing the equipment and contract terms.
The Mazda 6e suits a driver who wants to consider an electric executive car with a lower seating position and a useful hatchback opening. It is a different brief from a tall family SUV. For an owner or company driver, its place on a shortlist should depend on comfort, passenger accommodation and how charging fits work travel. For a private household, test the everyday load as well as the appearance.
The UK car needs particular care when researching specifications. Earlier international Mazda6e coverage may describe different batteries or technical figures. Start with the UK model year being quoted and keep that identity throughout the comparison. The right-hand-drive vehicle, its equipment and its support terms should determine the decision, rather than an attractive headline attached to another market’s version.

Mazda 6e and two alternatives: choose by the job each car does
| Model | Reason to consider it | Check before choosing |
|---|---|---|
| Mazda 6e | UK-specification electric executive hatchback | 78kWh identity, cabin materials and loading |
| MG IM5 | Different electric executive-car line-up | Battery/drivetrain choice and controls |
| Tesla Model 3 | Alternative electric saloon approach | Rear access, luggage opening and charging routine |
Mazda’s UK price and specification guide dated 11 February 2026 identifies Takumi and Takumi Plus with the 78kWh powertrain. The live IVF capture on 28 September contains both grades, each described as 190kW and 78kWh. That agreement between the UK guide and catalogue provides a clear starting point, although individual supply and delivery timing still need confirmation.
The choice between the two grades is principally an equipment and cabin-material decision. Ask for the exact written differences, then test whether the features you would use justify selecting one over the other. Do not assume Takumi Plus means a different battery or all-wheel drive. The UK guide identifies a rear-wheel-drive car in both cases.
If a quotation or advert uses another battery size, stop the comparison long enough to establish why. It may concern another market, production period or model. Similarly, Mazda6e and the separately named CX-6e should not be merged into one specification. Keep the vehicle identity, UK type and equipment list together so an amended quotation cannot change the basis of your decision unnoticed.
For someone carrying presentation equipment, overnight bags or a pushchair, the opening can be as important as the published luggage volume. Try lifting the actual item in, closing the powered tailgate and removing it in a realistic parking space. Check the clearance behind and above the car. A shape that works in an open forecourt may need a different approach in a garage.
Use the front storage compartment as a separate space, rather than mentally adding every published storage figure into one large boot. Decide whether it is convenient for charging equipment or the items you would put there. You should be able to retrieve a cable when the rear luggage area is full, without dismantling the load or blocking access for passengers.
Assess the rear seats after setting the front for the usual occupants. Tall passengers should try entry and headroom, while families should fit the intended child seats. If folding a rear seat is necessary for work equipment, verify that the remaining seating still accommodates everyone. Secure heavy items properly and check permitted loading for a regular business carrying task.
The UK battery specification helps identify the vehicle, but it does not by itself predict how often you will stop. Work through a typical week and the longest recurring day. Include motorway travel, cold-weather margin and the possibility of a changed appointment. A charging plan that relies on arriving with almost no reserve is a poor foundation for time-sensitive business use.
Home charging may make the routine straightforward where the installation and parking are suitable. Confirm permission, electrical capacity and cable routing before assuming that arrangement exists. At work, establish whether access is dependable and how payment is handled. If the car relies mainly on public charging, try the proposed locations and account setup before committing to the lease.
The UK guide provides AC and DC information for its specified vehicle. Use those figures only with the matching car and stated conditions. A peak charging power is not a guarantee of the average power through an entire session, and battery temperature or charger limitations can change the outcome. This page does not transfer range or charging-duration claims from earlier overseas Mazda6e versions.
Try the seat materials and adjustment in both grades if that difference matters to you. Spend enough time in the driving position to judge support and visibility, then use the familiar daily controls while stationary. Climate adjustment, demisting, navigation and phone calls are more revealing than a quick tour of a screen. A business with shared drivers should make sure each can use the normal functions comfortably.
Take a road test that includes rougher surfaces and ordinary parking. Check that the demonstrator’s wheels, equipment and software correspond to the proposed car. Driver-assistance features have operating limits and require appropriate supervision; their names should not be read as a guarantee of autonomous operation.
MG IM5 and Tesla Model 3 are worthwhile electric executive-car comparisons, each with a different cabin and charging approach. The Mazda should earn its place through the features you prefer and the tasks it handles well. Compare the exact derivatives on a common mileage, term and maintenance basis so that a rental difference does not hide a materially different vehicle or obligation.
Mazda’s vehicle warranty and traction-battery cover have separate conditions. Confirm the start date, servicing requirements and mileage limits for the UK car. For a high-mileage director, ask when a mileage limit could be reached during the agreement. For any driver, check insurance and ongoing service arrangements before accepting a quotation; manufacturer cover is not a substitute for a clear contract.
For a Mazda 6e provided to an employee or director, use the UK car’s P11D value and the zero-emission percentage for each year. Takumi and Takumi Plus need their own values. An overseas price or a monthly lease rental is not the basis for the benefit calculation.
Apply each year’s percentage to the Mazda’s actual P11D to establish the usual taxable car benefit, then apply the driver’s income tax circumstances. This concerns employer-provided private use. A sole trader’s own business car has a different treatment.
Company-car BiK benchmarks, 2026/27 to 2029/30
| Tax specification | 2026/27 | 2027/28 | 2028/29 | 2029/30 |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Zero-emission electric car | 4% | 5% | 7% | 9% |
Use our company-car BiK guide alongside HMRC’s 2026/27 and 2027/28 tables and the published 2028/29 and 2029/30 changes. Tax information checked 28 September 2026 against the C1 ledger and its primary sources. Tax treatment depends on individual circumstances and may change; consult your accountant.
Vehicle Excise Duty (VED). For 2026/27, the standard annual VED payment after the first year is £200 before any supplement. First-year VED depends on CO2 and registration rules; zero-emission cars currently have a £10 first-year rate. These cash rates apply to 2026/27 only; later annual VED rates are not confirmed here. Ask how the funder treats tax increases during your agreement.
Expensive Car Supplement. The Expensive Car Supplement is currently £440 a year for five years from the second licence. The list-price threshold is more than £40,000 for petrol, diesel and hybrid cars, or more than £50,000 for qualifying zero-emission cars registered from 1 April 2025. Use the published list price before discounts, including relevant options, and check the registration date. Plug-in hybrids do not receive the electric-car threshold. GOV.UK explains VED and the supplement.
Planned eVED. Planned from April 2028, eVED would add 3p per mile for electric cars and 1.5p for plug-in hybrids alongside VED. It is not currently in force; final legislation and implementation remain relevant. CPI uprating is planned from 2029/30, so later cash rates are not fixed here. Confirm the funder’s treatment of this charge for a contract crossing introduction. Read the government’s eVED consultation response.
Talk through the car and the agreement
VAT-registered businesses can normally reclaim 50% of the VAT on qualifying car rentals where private use is available, depending on circumstances and the normal VAT rules. Full rental-VAT recovery requires exclusive business use with no private availability. Maintenance can fall outside the rental block when it is genuinely optional, separately described in the contract and separately quantified on the invoice; recovery remains subject to normal VAT rules. Read HMRC’s motoring VAT guidance.
Businesses using the VAT Flat Rate Scheme do not normally recover input VAT on recurring car hire. The separate capital-goods exception does not turn hire invoices into a vehicle purchase. Check HMRC’s Flat Rate Scheme guidance.
A zero-emission car is not subject to the CO2-based lease-rental restriction. Check HMRC’s car-hire deduction rules.
For accounting periods beginning on or after 1 January 2026, revised FRS 102 generally requires a right-of-use asset and lease liability for lessees, including small companies using Section 1A. FRS 105 lease accounting for eligible micro-entities was not changed in the same way. Contract hire therefore does not universally keep a car off the balance sheet. Ask your accountant to apply the right framework; HMRC summarises the accounting standards.
Tell IVF your annual mileage, regular passengers, essential equipment, charging access where relevant and preferred timing. Ask for the precise model year, derivative, options and registration status to be written into the quotation. The catalogue is a starting point; the offered vehicle and funder terms need confirmation.
Business Contract Hire is taken by the business; Personal Contract Hire is taken by the private individual. Both are subject to status and individual funder criteria. Compare the initial rental, term, mileage, maintenance and applicable fees on the same basis. An initial rental is part of the hire cost, not refundable security or ownership equity.
A manufacturer warranty starts under the supplied car’s warranty terms, normally from first registration. Its time and mileage limits may finish before your lease does. It is separate from optional servicing and tyre cover. Confirm maintenance inclusions, insurance responsibilities, tax provisions and early-termination terms before signing.
At the end of contract hire, return the vehicle; there is no contractual purchase option. Excess mileage, damage beyond the funder’s fair wear and tear standard, missing equipment or other contractual charges may still be payable. Check the return process before choosing your agreement.

Mazda styles the UK model Mazda6e, while IVF’s route and catalogue use 6E. This page concerns that electric executive car. Match the UK model year and technical specification, and do not confuse it with the separately named CX-6e.
The UK guide dated 11 February 2026 specifies 78kWh for Takumi and Takumi Plus. IVF’s captured records use the same battery description. Earlier overseas information can concern different versions, so it should not be used to define the car in a UK leasing quotation.
The UK grades share the specified battery and rear-wheel-drive powertrain, while equipment and cabin materials differ. Obtain the exact comparison sheet and try the seats and controls. Do not assume the Plus badge means a larger battery or an all-wheel-drive version.
Yes, the UK specification reviewed here identifies rear-wheel drive for both grades. The live entries describe the same 190kW powertrain. Confirm the exact vehicle documents if an offered car is described differently, rather than importing another market’s specification.
Test the tailgate opening and loading height with your actual bags or equipment, keeping the required seats available. The front storage area is a separate compartment. Check parking clearance and whether you can reach charging equipment without unloading the rear.
No. Battery, market and model-year differences can make those figures inapplicable. Use the current UK technical sheet for the quoted car, including its equipment and test conditions. Weather, speed and charging circumstances still affect what happens on your own journeys.
Assess seat support, visibility, phone integration and ordinary controls, then try the rear seats with colleagues and the luggage you carry. Drive a representative route and check charging access. Ask for any differences between the demonstrator and proposed lease car to be identified.
Mazda states six years or 100,000 miles for the vehicle, with separate high-voltage battery terms. Confirm the supplied car’s warranty certificate, registration date and servicing conditions. Optional maintenance, insurance and costs arising at lease return are separate obligations.
Use the qualifying zero-emission percentage for each relevant tax year with the actual P11D value and the driver’s tax circumstances. Check road-tax obligations and any options separately. A single first-year percentage does not describe the cost of the whole agreement.
Tell IVF whether you prefer Takumi or Takumi Plus, your essential equipment, annual mileage, intended term and charging arrangements. The grid shows rentals. The written quotation should confirm the UK vehicle, initial rental, maintenance scope and applicable charges, subject to supply and funder criteria.
