Intelligent Vehicle Finance helps you compare Volkswagen T-Roc business and personal leasing while separating the new mild-hybrid SUV from earlier catalogue entries. Volkswagen UK now presents the new generation, but IVF also lists older petrol, diesel and convertible descriptions. Confirm the body, generation and equipment before using any current specification figure.
The T-Roc is a compact SUV decision with an unusually important identity check. Volkswagen’s current UK presentation concerns the new generation, yet the live IVF catalogue contains vehicles described in ways that span more than that one range. A driver replacing an existing T-Roc should therefore begin with the body and model year, not assume that the familiar name guarantees the same cabin, transmission or luggage capacity.
Our recommendation is to consider the new SUV for a mixed working and family routine where a compact body is useful but the Taigo’s coupe-style profile is not your preference. If rear passengers, luggage or equipment need more room, compare a Tiguan before stretching the T-Roc brief. A convertible is a separate lifestyle choice with different access and loading questions. It should not inherit the SUV’s practicality claims simply because both appear on one route.
| Model | When it belongs on the shortlist | Check before comparing |
|---|---|---|
| T-Roc | Compact SUV with new mild-hybrid and older catalogue choices | Generation and SUV versus convertible body |
| Taigo | Coupe-style small crossover | Roof profile and rear access |
| Tiguan | Five-seat family SUV with more powertrain decisions | Passenger brief and charging suitability |
The new T-Roc is not a specification update that can be applied indiscriminately to every older catalogue label. Keep each proposed car’s technical record separate.
The T-Cross is a separate upright small-SUV alternative; test its rear access if the Taigo profile does not suit you.
The September IVF capture includes new 1.5 eTSI Life, Match, Style and R-Line DSG descriptions, some with a 150 output label. Tech Pack, Leather Comfort and combined-pack variants appear. It also retains 1.0 TSI 115 and 1.5 TSI SUV entries, a 2.0 TDI 150 EVO R-Line DSG, and several 1.0 or 1.5 TSI two-door convertibles. A long list of rows is not a count of confirmed vehicles awaiting supply.
Ask IVF to mark the proposed car as new-generation SUV, earlier-generation SUV or convertible, then give its exact derivative and options. That simple separation protects the rest of the decision. It prevents a current boot figure being attached to a cabriolet and stops a current mild-hybrid description being attached to an older diesel. Manufacturer webpages can also retain mixed-generation FAQ wording, so the written vehicle specification needs to take priority over a general summary.
The current UK eTSI proposition combines petrol operation with mild-hybrid assistance and an automatic gearbox. It does not require the external charging routine associated with a plug-in hybrid. For a driver whose work destinations vary daily, that may fit an established refuelling pattern. It still needs a proper comparison with your annual mileage, typical load and employer policy rather than being chosen because the hybrid wording sounds like a tax category.
The manufacturer’s current technical table shows two power outputs. Test the relevant version on your own mix of roads, including joining faster traffic and low-speed parking. If you are comparing it with an older TSI or TDI catalogue entry, keep their certification and equipment records separate. The newest information is not automatically the correct information for every car bearing the T-Roc badge, and an older entry is not proof that production or ordering continues.
A boot benchmark helps only after the generation is known. For the new SUV, Volkswagen quotes a 475-litre compartment; your own cases and pushchair may still expose limitations that litres do not explain. Try the loading lip, hatch opening and parcel shelf with the largest regular item. Consider the space required beside the car to open doors and the rear clearance needed to open the tailgate in your usual parking place.
Seat comfort should be checked over a meaningful demonstration, particularly if this will become a high-use staff car. Establish which adjustment, heating or other functions are included in the exact trim and pack. For a shared vehicle, assess how quickly drivers can regain a comfortable position and understand the assistance controls. A larger display or a differently styled seat is not a substitute for an ergonomic fit with the person using it every day.
If towing is part of the T-Roc enquiry, provide the actual trailer and load information. Volkswagen’s current technical limits vary by output and test condition; they cannot be assigned to an older model or a convertible. Confirm permitted trailer weight, train weight, tow-ball load and approved towing equipment for the supplied vehicle. Those checks are more important than assuming that an SUV-shaped car can handle a particular trailer.
For a convertible enquiry, ask specifically about rear-seat access, luggage with the roof operated and the body’s suitability for work equipment. This page does not promise that a listed convertible is currently obtainable. If those requirements are secondary and the main need is a practical compact SUV, return to the new eTSI shortlist. For a different shape, compare the Taigo; for a larger family-SUV task, assess the Tiguan. Keep each alternative tied to the job you need it to do.
Generation control matters for T-Roc tax as well as practicality. A new eTSI, an earlier TSI and the captured TDI description can have different certified emissions and P11D values. The table below gives upper CO2-band ceilings only. Do not assign a percentage by applying the current manufacturer overview to an unidentified catalogue car.
For an employee or director with private use, the taxable benefit normally starts with the car’s P11D value multiplied by the applicable BiK percentage. Personal tax then depends on the individual’s income tax rate and any relevant adjustments. The percentage is not the tax rate applied to the lease rental. A sole trader’s own business car use follows different rules.
The agreement can cross several tax years. Compare the whole path, not just the percentage in the year the car arrives.
| Tax specification | 2026/27 | 2027/28 | 2028/29 | 2029/30 |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Volkswagen T-Roc: upper CO2-band ceiling, not a rate for every listed car | 37% | 37% | 38% | 39% |
These are conditional tax bands, not assigned rates for every Volkswagen T-Roc. Confirm the supplied car’s P11D, certified CO2, fuel type and registration date. Diesel supplements can apply where the required emissions certification is absent, subject to the annual maximum.
Use our company-car BiK guide alongside HMRC’s 2026/27 and 2027/28 tables and the published 2028/29 and 2029/30 changes. Tax information checked 24 September 2026 against the C1 ledger and its primary sources. Tax treatment depends on individual circumstances and may change; consult your accountant.
Vehicle Excise Duty (VED). For a T-Roc proposal, confirm the registration position before checking VED. First-year duty is CO2-based under the applicable rules, while the standard annual payment after year one is £200 in 2026/27 before supplements. The funder should explain what is included and how later tax increases would be treated. This is particularly relevant when comparing catalogue cars from different specification periods.
Expensive Car Supplement. The original list price including relevant options determines whether a petrol, diesel or mild-hybrid T-Roc crosses the more-than-£40,000 Expensive Car Supplement threshold. If applicable, the 2026/27 charge is £440 annually for five years from the second licence. A discounted quotation does not change the original list-price test. Confirm the vehicle against the government tables.
Planned eVED. Neither the new mild-hybrid T-Roc nor the ordinary petrol and diesel descriptions discussed here fall within the planned electric/PHEV eVED categories. The proposal is for April 2028, alongside VED, starting at 3p per mile for electric cars and 1.5p for plug-in hybrids. CPI uprating is proposed from 2029/30; final implementation and legislation require checking. Read the official response when comparing a plug-in alternative.
VAT-registered businesses can normally reclaim 50% of the VAT on qualifying car rentals where private use is available, depending on circumstances and the normal VAT rules. Full rental-VAT recovery requires exclusive business use with no private availability. Maintenance can fall outside the rental block when it is genuinely optional, separately described in the contract and separately quantified on the invoice; recovery remains subject to normal VAT rules. Read HMRC’s motoring VAT guidance.
The hire-cost rules normally disallow 15% of otherwise deductible rentals for cars above 50 g/km, subject to their scope and exceptions. A company-car BiK easement does not establish relief from this restriction. Check HMRC’s car-hire deduction rules.
For accounting periods beginning on or after 1 January 2026, revised FRS 102 generally requires a right-of-use asset and lease liability for lessees, including small companies using Section 1A. FRS 105 lease accounting for eligible micro-entities was not changed in the same way. Contract hire therefore does not universally keep a car off the balance sheet. Ask your accountant to apply the right framework; HMRC summarises the accounting standards.
Flat Rate Scheme users generally cannot reclaim VAT on recurring car-hire payments. Ask your accountant which VAT regime applies before using the recovery examples above.
Tell IVF your annual mileage, regular passengers, essential equipment, charging access where relevant and preferred timing. Ask for the precise model year, derivative, options and registration status to be written into the quotation. The catalogue is a starting point; the offered vehicle and funder terms need confirmation.
Business Contract Hire is taken by the business; Personal Contract Hire is taken by the private individual. Both are subject to status and individual funder criteria. Compare the initial rental, term, mileage, maintenance and applicable fees on the same basis. An initial rental is part of the hire cost, not refundable security or ownership equity.
A manufacturer warranty starts under the supplied car’s warranty terms, normally from first registration. Its time and mileage limits may finish before your lease does. It is separate from optional servicing and tyre cover. Confirm maintenance inclusions, insurance responsibilities, tax provisions and early-termination terms before signing.
At the end of contract hire, return the vehicle; there is no contractual purchase option. Excess mileage, damage beyond the funder’s fair wear and tear standard, missing equipment or other contractual charges may still be payable. Check the return process before choosing your agreement.
Use Volkswagen leasing range, Volkswagen Taigo, Volkswagen Tiguan, company-car tax guide, speak to IVF to narrow your choice or discuss a quotation.
Yes, but identify the body and generation first. The live route mixes new mild-hybrid SUV descriptions with older SUV and convertible entries. A proposal needs a confirmed vehicle, contract basis, status and individual funder assessment.
Volkswagen UK now presents the new T-Roc generation with mild-hybrid petrol power and DSG. The IVF route also retains earlier descriptions, so ask which generation a particular quotation covers before comparing specifications.
No such claim should be made about this catalogue. New-generation eTSI descriptions sit alongside older TSI petrol, TDI diesel and convertible rows. Match any electrification statement to the actual derivative and model year.
The mild-hybrid eTSI is not a plug-in hybrid. It uses petrol with electrical assistance rather than an external charging routine. If your brief requires plug-in commuting, tell IVF so another confirmed model can be assessed.
Volkswagen’s new-generation UK overview quotes 475 litres. This is not a figure for every T-Roc on the IVF route. Do not transfer it to an earlier-generation SUV or a two-door convertible; test your own luggage in the offered car.
Yes. The September capture contains two-door convertible descriptions as well as five-door SUVs. Their presence is not supply confirmation, and their seating access and luggage arrangements should be assessed separately from the new SUV.
That needs an exact-vehicle check. Current UK technical entries show 1,300 kg or 1,500 kg braked limits at 12% incline by output. Confirm the vehicle’s documents, towing equipment, train weight and trailer load; older entries may differ.
Use the Taigo to consider a coupe-style small crossover and the Tiguan when your passenger or luggage requirements point towards a larger SUV. Compare actual generations and derivatives rather than merging specifications from the three names.
Tech Pack and Leather Comfort labels can identify different equipment within an engine and trim family. Ask IVF for the contents of the proposed pack, then compare term, mileage, initial rental and maintenance on an equivalent basis.
No. Mild-hybrid assistance does not determine a special model-wide percentage. Obtain P11D and certified CO2 for the supplied T-Roc and calculate each year of the agreement separately, with advice appropriate to your tax circumstances.
