Your DS 3 leasing decision

Intelligent Vehicle Finance helps business and private drivers choose DS 3 leasing around compact dimensions, cabin character and the right powertrain. DS UK still sells this model as DS 3, with Hybrid 145 and electric E-TENSE choices. Compare your charging access and passenger needs before deciding which version fits.

DS 3 business and personal leasing: hybrid or electric?

The DS 3 is worth considering when you want an individual cabin and exterior design without moving to a large SUV. For a director who parks in town, or a private driver whose daily travel rarely needs a large load bay, its compact format can be the reason to shortlist it. The useful choice is between two different routines: refuelling a Hybrid 145, or building charging into life with an E-TENSE.

DS UK continues to promote both under the DS 3 name in September 2026. The arrival of N°4 and N°8 elsewhere in the range does not rename this car. Ask for DS 3 and the exact powertrain when discussing a quotation, particularly if you have seen an older DS 3 Crossback review or an article about a future model.

It is less suitable if your main requirement is generous rear accommodation for several adults or bulky work equipment every day. Check that first, before choosing an interior finish. The electric version also needs a workable charging plan; a favourable company-car percentage cannot create a convenient place to plug in.

DS 3 leasing: key facts

  • DS UK continues to list DS 3; N°4 is a different model, not its replacement name.
  • The UK Hybrid 145 uses petrol and electric assistance without external charging.
  • IVF lists E-TENSE 115 kW versions with a 54 kWh battery label; match the final UK model-year specification before ordering.
  • DS UK gives the DS 3 a length of 4,118 mm and five seats; check access with your regular passengers.
  • The DS UK warranty page states three years of vehicle cover and eight years for the traction battery, subject to the supplied warranty terms and applicable mileage limits.
  • GOV.UK: the maximum company-car BiK band is 37% in 2026/27 and 39% in 2029/30; the exact car can fall in a lower band.

Compare the exact powertrain, body and supplied specification on consistent terms. The alternatives answer different needs; availability must be checked individually.

Read the current DS 3 catalogue by powertrain and grade

IVF’s captured catalogue contains seven rows: Hybrid 145 in Pallas, Étoile, DS Performance Line and Pallas 55, plus E-TENSE in Pallas, Étoile and DS Performance Line. These are catalogue descriptions, not confirmation that each configuration has been allocated to IVF. Have the model year and full equipment list recorded in your quote, including any special-edition differences.

The hybrid is shown with the e-DSC automatic transmission, while the E-TENSE rows identify a 115 kW electric motor and 54 kWh battery. Those labels distinguish fundamentally different cars. The hybrid does not become a plug-in simply because it can use electric assistance, and a shared trim badge does not make its running routine or tax calculation identical to the electric model.

Use the grade comparison to identify equipment you will use repeatedly: seat adjustment, parking assistance, lighting and phone integration. Ask to see the supplied specification rather than assuming a feature shown in an Étoile photograph belongs to Pallas. DS Performance Line is a trim identity; it should not be treated as proof of a different battery or a particular performance upgrade.

A compact car still needs a proper passenger and parking test

Sit in your normal driving position, then try the seat behind it. If the DS 3 will take colleagues to appointments, give the likely rear passenger time to assess foot room, access and visibility. For family use, bring the actual child seats and check the approved installation instructions. A five-seat designation does not establish that every combination of occupants and equipment will be comfortable.

Load your ordinary work bags, shopping, sports equipment or pushchair with the rear seats in their normal positions. Check the opening and lifting height as well as the space inside. An empty boot or a photograph with seats folded cannot establish whether your normal load fits.

During a test drive, try demisting, temperature adjustment and navigation. Check visibility at a junction and the parking display in a familiar bay. The design should remain easy to use after the novelty wears off.

Match DS 3 E-TENSE charging and warranty to the lease term

For E-TENSE, begin with where the car can stand and charge safely overnight. Confirm charger installation feasibility, access arrangements and the tariff before treating home charging as established. If you depend on public sites, identify alternatives near the places you actually visit, and consider what happens when the preferred charger is occupied or unavailable.

The 54 kWh catalogue label does not tell you how far a particular supplied car will travel in winter or how quickly every charger will replenish it. Obtain the current UK technical sheet for its model year, wheels and equipment. Compare certified figures on a consistent test basis, then leave room for weather, speed, heating and the reserve you want at arrival.

For Hybrid 145, the practical test is different: assess its response in slow traffic, on hills and when joining a faster road. There is no external charging routine to organise. For either version, obtain DS warranty documents and check the relevant mileage ceiling against your contract. Battery cover, servicing, wear items and assistance have distinct terms; a warranty headline does not make them one package.

DS 3 company-car tax across the lease

DS 3 makes the difference between electrification and zero emissions especially clear. E-TENSE uses the electric company-car path. Hybrid 145 must use its certified CO2 band; the 112 g/km catalogue benchmark would sit in the 110-114 g/km row below if confirmed for the supplied vehicle.

For an employee or director with private use, the taxable benefit normally starts with the car’s P11D value multiplied by the applicable BiK percentage. Personal tax then depends on the individual’s income tax rate and any relevant adjustments. The percentage is not the tax rate applied to the lease rental. A sole trader’s own business car use follows different rules.

The agreement can cross several tax years. Compare the whole path, not just the percentage in the year the car arrives.

These are conditional tax bands, not assigned rates for every DS 3. Confirm the supplied car’s P11D, certified CO2, fuel type and registration date. Diesel supplements can apply where the required emissions certification is absent, subject to the annual maximum.

Use our company-car BiK guide alongside HMRC’s 2026/27 and 2027/28 tables and the published 2028/29 and 2029/30 changes. Tax information checked 28 September 2026 against the C1 ledger and its primary sources. Tax treatment depends on individual circumstances and may change; consult your accountant.

Road tax and costs across the term

Vehicle Excise Duty (VED). For 2026/27, the standard annual VED payment after the first year is £200 before any supplement. First-year VED depends on CO2 and registration rules; zero-emission cars currently have a £10 first-year rate. These cash rates apply to 2026/27 only; later annual VED rates are not confirmed here. Ask how the funder treats tax increases during your agreement.

Expensive Car Supplement. The Expensive Car Supplement is currently £440 a year for five years from the second licence. The list-price threshold is more than £40,000 for petrol, diesel and hybrid cars, or more than £50,000 for qualifying zero-emission cars registered from 1 April 2025. Use the published list price before discounts, including relevant options, and check the registration date. Plug-in hybrids do not receive the electric-car threshold. GOV.UK explains VED and the supplement.

Planned eVED. The government plans Electric Vehicle Excise Duty (eVED) from April 2028, alongside VED: 3p per mile for electric cars and 1.5p per mile for plug-in hybrids. This is proposed for April 2028, subject to legislation and implementation; it is not a charge currently in force. The stated rates are planned starting rates, with CPI uprating proposed from 2029/30 and later cash rates not confirmed. An agreement spanning introduction needs the funder’s written treatment of the charge and later changes. Check the government’s consultation response and final implementation guidance before committing.

VAT and the business accounts

VAT-registered businesses can normally reclaim 50% of the VAT on qualifying car rentals where private use is available, depending on circumstances and the normal VAT rules. Full rental-VAT recovery requires exclusive business use with no private availability. Maintenance can fall outside the rental block when it is genuinely optional, separately described in the contract and separately quantified on the invoice; recovery remains subject to normal VAT rules. Read HMRC’s motoring VAT guidance.

Businesses using the VAT Flat Rate Scheme do not normally recover input VAT on recurring car hire. The separate capital-goods exception does not turn hire invoices into a vehicle purchase. Check HMRC’s Flat Rate Scheme guidance.

The hire-cost rules normally disallow 15% of otherwise deductible rentals for cars above 50 g/km, subject to their scope and exceptions. A company-car BiK easement does not establish relief from this restriction. Check HMRC’s car-hire deduction rules.

For accounting periods beginning on or after 1 January 2026, revised FRS 102 generally requires a right-of-use asset and lease liability for lessees, including small companies using Section 1A. FRS 105 lease accounting for eligible micro-entities was not changed in the same way. Contract hire therefore does not universally keep a car off the balance sheet. Ask your accountant to apply the right framework; HMRC summarises the accounting standards.

Build the quotation around the way you will use it

Tell IVF your annual mileage, regular passengers, essential equipment, charging access where relevant and preferred timing. Ask for the precise model year, derivative, options and registration status to be written into the quotation. The catalogue is a starting point; the offered vehicle and funder terms need confirmation.

Business Contract Hire is taken by the business; Personal Contract Hire is taken by the private individual. Both are subject to status and individual funder criteria. Compare the initial rental, term, mileage, maintenance and applicable fees on the same basis. An initial rental is part of the hire cost, not refundable security or ownership equity.

A manufacturer warranty starts under the supplied car’s warranty terms, normally from first registration. Its time and mileage limits may finish before your lease does. It is separate from optional servicing and tyre cover. Confirm maintenance inclusions, insurance responsibilities, tax provisions and early-termination terms before signing.

At the end of contract hire, return the vehicle; there is no contractual purchase option. Excess mileage, damage beyond the funder’s fair wear and tear standard, missing equipment or other contractual charges may still be payable. Check the return process before choosing your agreement.

DS 3 leasing questions

Is DS 3 now called N°3 or N°4 in the UK?

No rename is shown in the current DS UK range reviewed for this page. The compact model is still DS 3, offered as Hybrid 145 and E-TENSE. N°4 is a separate DS product, so keep the model name and powertrain explicit in your enquiry.

Is DS 3 Hybrid 145 a plug-in hybrid?

No. It combines petrol power with electric assistance and does not require plugging in. Choose E-TENSE if you want the fully electric DS 3. The two versions have different charging needs and company-car tax treatment.

Which DS 3 versions does IVF list?

The catalogue shows Hybrid 145 Pallas, Étoile, DS Performance Line and Pallas 55, plus E-TENSE Pallas, Étoile and DS Performance Line. Confirm the precise model year and equipment with IVF; a listing alone is not evidence of a reserved vehicle.

What battery is in the listed DS 3 E-TENSE?

IVF labels the current electric rows 115 kW E-TENSE 54 kWh. Ask for the manufacturer specification matching the offered car, including its usable capacity and charging equipment. Do not transfer technical figures from an older DS 3 Crossback or a different model year.

Can I arrange DS 3 business contract hire?

IVF can discuss a business quotation, subject to confirmed supply, status and individual funder criteria. Tell us whether the car will be available privately and which powertrain you want. Have your accountant compare the applicable tax path for the whole agreement.

Does the hybrid have the electric company-car percentage?

No. Hybrid 145 is assessed using its certified CO2 figure and the relevant company-car table. Only the zero-emission E-TENSE receives the electric-car percentage. A similar grade name does not transfer the electric tax treatment to the hybrid.

Is DS 3 suitable for regular rear-seat passengers?

Test the actual seating arrangement with your normal driver position. The five-seat layout may suit your needs, but access, foot room and luggage requirements are personal. If adults regularly travel in the rear, make their comfort part of the test drive.

Is DS Performance Line a different electric powertrain?

Do not assume so. IVF’s E-TENSE Performance Line listing uses the same 115 kW and 54 kWh labels as the other listed electric grades. Compare equipment and the exact supplied technical specification before attributing a performance difference to the badge.

What warranty should I check for a DS 3?

DS UK states three years of vehicle warranty and eight years of traction-battery cover. Obtain the applicable UK warranty conditions for the supplied powertrain, including mileage limits, servicing obligations and exclusions. Optional maintenance and tyre cover are separate decisions.

What should I send IVF for a DS 3 lease comparison?

State Hybrid 145 or E-TENSE, preferred grade, annual mileage and any essential equipment. For E-TENSE, add your charging arrangements. We can then discuss consistent contract terms, confirm vehicle availability and explain the next steps without assuming a particular delivery date.
