Your Honda Prelude leasing decision

Intelligent Vehicle Finance helps you consider Honda Prelude business and personal leasing as a hybrid coupe for everyday driving. The current UK Advance uses Honda’s e:HEV system and does not plug in. Decide whether its four-seat layout and luggage space fit your life, then compare the exact car and agreement.

A Prelude lease for the driver who wants a coupe

The Prelude is worth considering when the car is primarily for you and a front passenger, with occasional use of the rear seats. It offers a different everyday brief from a family hatchback or SUV. Before choosing it for its shape, establish whether the seating, doors and luggage access work for the journeys you actually make each week.

For a business owner, that can mean checking whether colleagues travel with you, how much demonstration equipment you carry and whether visitors need easy rear access. For a private driver, it may mean a weekend bag test and a realistic look at the people who use the rear seats.

The hybrid powertrain removes the need for a plug-in routine, but it does not make the Prelude a battery-electric company car. Choose it because the coupe layout and driving controls suit you, then assess its own running costs. If five seats or frequent bulky loads are essential, compare the Civic before deciding.

Honda Prelude leasing: key facts

  • Honda UK lists the Prelude Advance 2.0 i-MMD automatic hybrid on 28 September 2026.
  • The current UK specification has four seats, rather than the five places of many family cars.
  • Honda quotes 264 litres of luggage volume with the rear seats up, or 269 litres including the underfloor space; check the loading method.
  • The UK specification lists 117 g/km combined WLTP CO2 for Advance; individual test phases are not the combined tax figure.
  • S+ Shift simulates gear changes within the hybrid system; it is not a manual gearbox.
  • GOV.UK: the maximum company-car BiK band is 37% in 2026/27 and 39% in 2029/30; the exact car can fall in a lower band.

Prelude e:HEV Advance: the current UK choice

Honda’s UK specifications identify Advance with the 2.0 i-MMD automatic hybrid system. The IVF grid captured on 28 September 2026 has one derivative link, described as 2.0 eHEV Advance three-door CVT. Those descriptions refer to the current hybrid coupe task, but the offered model year and equipment should still be written into your quotation.

A single catalogue row does not prove a single car is in stock. Nor does it show that every colour, interior or accessory combination is available. If a particular feature is essential, name it in your enquiry instead of assuming it comes with every possible offer carrying the Advance name.

The live grid displays rental figures with the selected contract settings. Compare them with a written quotation using the same annual mileage, initial rental and term. The useful comparison is the full specification and agreement, not a monthly amount detached from its conditions.

What S+ Shift and the hybrid system mean for you

Honda describes S+ Shift as a way to simulate gear changes through the hybrid powertrain. That makes a demonstration more useful than a conventional gearbox label. Ask to try the system and the normal driving modes, then decide whether the control response suits how you drive in traffic and on longer journeys.

The Prelude uses petrol and electrical assistance without an external charging requirement. You do not need a home wallbox for the e:HEV version described here. You should still include fuel spending in your comparison, and avoid treating time spent under electric power as a promised electric-only commuting distance.

Honda’s technical table distinguishes individual WLTP phases from the combined figure. Use the combined certified CO2 entry for the supplied derivative when checking company-car treatment. A favourable number from one test phase is not a substitute. Real consumption also depends on your route, load, weather and driving, so test the car on a representative journey where possible.

Four seats, long doors and a practical luggage test

Try rear access with the people who will actually travel there. The front-seat position that suits a tall driver can change what is comfortable behind it. A four-seat designation describes the approved seating count; it does not establish that all four occupants will be equally comfortable on your longest journey.

Measure the space beside your usual parking bay so the doors can open usefully. Repeat the check at work if the car will live in a narrow multi-storey. Consider entry and exit with a coat, work bag or child seat rather than only sitting in the car at a dealership with plenty of space around it.

For luggage, use the seats-up configuration first. Honda publishes different boot figures depending on whether underfloor storage is included and whether seats are folded. A briefcase, sports bag or pushchair can be awkward even when its theoretical volume is smaller than the stated capacity. The shape of the opening and the arrangement of your load matter.

Choose the coupe against the journeys you cannot avoid

Compare the Prelude with a Civic when rear access and weekday versatility matter as much as styling. A ZR-V gives you a different body layout to assess if seat height and loading are more important. These alternatives help clarify the brief; they are not claims that the cars offer identical equipment or driving experiences.

For the Prelude itself, try the seating position, screen controls and visibility in person. Establish which driver-assistance features are fitted to the quoted car and learn their limits. Assistance systems support an attentive driver; a list of features should not substitute for understanding how to operate them.

Ask for the warranty terms applicable to the actual registration date and confirm the servicing obligations. Honda’s current warranty material includes conditional cover arrangements, so do not assume a headline duration is unconditional for every car. A lease maintenance package is a separate choice, especially if your planned mileage is substantial.

Honda Prelude company-car tax across the lease

Honda UK’s current Advance technical table gives 117 g/km combined WLTP CO2. If that is the supplied car’s certified value, the conditional 115-119 g/km path below applies. The lower figures for individual test phases must not replace the combined figure.

For an employee or director with private use, the taxable benefit normally starts with the car’s P11D value multiplied by the applicable BiK percentage. Personal tax then depends on the individual’s income tax rate and any relevant adjustments. The percentage is not the tax rate applied to the lease rental. A sole trader’s own business car use follows different rules.

The agreement can cross several tax years. Compare the whole path, not just the percentage in the year the car arrives.

These are conditional tax bands, not assigned rates for every Honda Prelude. Confirm the supplied car’s P11D, certified CO2, fuel type and registration date. Diesel supplements can apply where the required emissions certification is absent, subject to the annual maximum.

Use our company-car BiK guide alongside HMRC’s 2026/27 and 2027/28 tables and the published 2028/29 and 2029/30 changes. Tax information checked 28 September 2026 against the C1 ledger and its primary sources. Tax treatment depends on individual circumstances and may change; consult your accountant.

Road tax and costs across the term

Vehicle Excise Duty (VED). For 2026/27, the standard annual VED payment after the first year is £200 before any supplement. First-year VED depends on CO2 and registration rules; zero-emission cars currently have a £10 first-year rate. These cash rates apply to 2026/27 only; later annual VED rates are not confirmed here. Ask how the funder treats tax increases during your agreement.

Expensive Car Supplement. The Expensive Car Supplement is currently £440 a year for five years from the second licence. The list-price threshold is more than £40,000 for petrol, diesel and hybrid cars, or more than £50,000 for qualifying zero-emission cars registered from 1 April 2025. Use the published list price before discounts, including relevant options, and check the registration date. Plug-in hybrids do not receive the electric-car threshold. GOV.UK explains VED and the supplement.

Planned eVED. The government plans Electric Vehicle Excise Duty (eVED) from April 2028, alongside VED: 3p per mile for electric cars and 1.5p per mile for plug-in hybrids. This is proposed for April 2028, subject to legislation and implementation; it is not a charge currently in force. The stated rates are planned starting rates, with CPI uprating proposed from 2029/30 and later cash rates not confirmed. An agreement spanning introduction needs the funder’s written treatment of the charge and later changes. Check the government’s consultation response and final implementation guidance before committing. The Honda Prelude powertrain discussed here is outside those planned electric and plug-in hybrid categories.

VAT and the business accounts

VAT-registered businesses can normally reclaim 50% of the VAT on qualifying car rentals where private use is available, depending on circumstances and the normal VAT rules. Full rental-VAT recovery requires exclusive business use with no private availability. Maintenance can fall outside the rental block when it is genuinely optional, separately described in the contract and separately quantified on the invoice; recovery remains subject to normal VAT rules. Read HMRC’s motoring VAT guidance.

Businesses using the VAT Flat Rate Scheme do not normally recover input VAT on recurring car hire. The separate capital-goods exception does not turn hire invoices into a vehicle purchase. Check HMRC’s Flat Rate Scheme guidance.

The hire-cost rules normally disallow 15% of otherwise deductible rentals for cars above 50 g/km, subject to their scope and exceptions. A company-car BiK easement does not establish relief from this restriction. Check HMRC’s car-hire deduction rules.

For accounting periods beginning on or after 1 January 2026, revised FRS 102 generally requires a right-of-use asset and lease liability for lessees, including small companies using Section 1A. FRS 105 lease accounting for eligible micro-entities was not changed in the same way. Contract hire therefore does not universally keep a car off the balance sheet. Ask your accountant to apply the right framework; HMRC summarises the accounting standards.

Build the quotation around the way you will use it

Tell IVF your annual mileage, regular passengers, essential equipment, charging access where relevant and preferred timing. Ask for the precise model year, derivative, options and registration status to be written into the quotation. The catalogue is a starting point; the offered vehicle and funder terms need confirmation.

Business Contract Hire is taken by the business; Personal Contract Hire is taken by the private individual. Both are subject to status and individual funder criteria. Compare the initial rental, term, mileage, maintenance and applicable fees on the same basis. An initial rental is part of the hire cost, not refundable security or ownership equity.

A manufacturer warranty starts under the supplied car’s warranty terms, normally from first registration. Its time and mileage limits may finish before your lease does. It is separate from optional servicing and tyre cover. Confirm maintenance inclusions, insurance responsibilities, tax provisions and early-termination terms before signing.

At the end of contract hire, return the vehicle; there is no contractual purchase option. Excess mileage, damage beyond the funder’s fair wear and tear standard, missing equipment or other contractual charges may still be payable. Check the return process before choosing your agreement.

Honda Prelude leasing questions

Is the Honda Prelude electric or hybrid?

The UK Prelude covered here is an e:HEV petrol hybrid. It is not a battery-electric car and does not require external charging. Compare its own CO2-based company-car treatment rather than applying an electric-car percentage.

Which Prelude version appears in IVF’s grid?

The checked grid contains the 2.0 eHEV Advance three-door automatic description. Honda UK lists Advance for the current hybrid coupe. Confirm the offered model year, equipment and availability before relying on that catalogue entry.

Can I choose Prelude for business leasing?

You can discuss a business quotation subject to the funder’s criteria. Check the supplied car’s combined CO2 and P11D value with your accountant, and make sure the coupe layout suits any colleagues or equipment you carry.

Is Prelude personal leasing suitable for family use?

That depends on the actual family and journeys. It has four seating positions. Test rear access, child-restraint arrangements and luggage with the seats occupied before choosing it for regular family transport.

Does S+ Shift mean it has a manual gearbox?

No. Honda describes S+ Shift as simulated gear changes within the hybrid system. Try the controls on a demonstration drive instead of assuming they behave like a conventional manual transmission.

Can I plug the Prelude in at home?

The e:HEV Prelude discussed here does not use external charging. If a daily plug-in commute is a requirement, tell IVF so a different powertrain can be considered.

Which luggage figure should I use?

Honda distinguishes the main seats-up boot from underfloor-inclusive and seats-folded measurements. Use the configuration you will actually travel with and test your bags through the opening.

Is Honda’s lowest displayed CO2 number the tax figure?

Do not select an individual WLTP phase. The current Advance specification lists a separate combined CO2 value. The supplied car’s certified combined figure is the appropriate starting point for the tax check.

What should I compare in a Prelude quotation?

Align model year, equipment, annual mileage, initial rental, term and maintenance. Ask how warranty conditions and servicing fit the agreement, and compare the written terms alongside the priced grid.

What is the next step with IVF?

Tell us whether the car is for business or personal use, who travels with you, your annual mileage and essential features. Include any access or luggage concern so it can be resolved before choosing an offer.
