Honda makes a useful shortlist when cabin flexibility and a clear energy routine matter more than simply moving to a larger SUV. Jazz can handle awkward loads through its seating arrangement, Civic offers a different five-door shape, and HR-V and ZR-V provide raised-body alternatives. CR-V adds the decision between a full hybrid and a plug-in hybrid.
The names require care. e:HEV is Honda's full-hybrid designation and needs petrol rather than an external charger. e:PHEV is plug-in hybrid. e:Ny1 is battery-electric. Those distinctions affect everyday use, charging preparation and the evidence an accountant needs for a company car.
A live model route is not a current showroom promise. Honda UK explicitly says Honda e has been discontinued in Europe and is no longer available for new purchase. Its retained IVF page is a legacy reference, while Super-N is a separate compact electric model. Enquire about an identified car or a current alternative without assuming a historic listing establishes supply.
Use this comparison to separate the vehicle decisions before comparing agreements. Model pages can contain several generations or bodies; specify the one you want.
| Model page | Body and powertrain | Decision to make |
|---|---|---|
| Civic | Five-door e:HEV hybrid | Lower body and scoped luggage capacity. |
| CR-V | Full hybrid or plug-in hybrid SUV | Charging and exact certified tax data. |
| e:Ny1 | Battery-electric SUV | Elegance/Advance and matching battery evidence. |
| Honda e | Discontinued compact electric model | Legacy route; no new-purchase availability implied. |
| HR-V | Full-hybrid SUV | Access and grade-specific boot capacity. |
| Jazz | Compact full-hybrid hatchback | Magic Seats and occupied passenger places. |
| Prelude | e:HEV hybrid three-door coupe | Deliberate body choice and rear-access trial. |
| Super-N | Separate compact electric model | Confirm current UK specification and allocation. |
| ZR-V | 2.0 e:HEV SUV | Cabin fit and 4,568 mm parking benchmark. |
Jazz deserves a practical trial before assuming an SUV offers more useful space. The Magic Seats can raise their bases for tall items or fold for longer loads. Current Jazz Elegance has a 304-litre VDA boot and 1,205 litres with seats folded and loading to the roof. That second configuration removes rear passenger places. Honda publishes 62.8 mpg WLTP combined for the scoped Elegance specification, not a prediction of every driver's consumption.
HR-V Elegance's 319-litre VDA seats-up figure is just 15 litres more than Jazz's. Higher access may still make HR-V the right choice, but the capacity comparison is a reason to test rather than assume. Its current benchmark is 122 g/km WLTP combined CO2, and other grades can have different boot measurements.
Civic Elegance 2.0 e:HEV is the lower five-door comparison. Honda's scoped figures are 108 g/km WLTP combined CO2 and 410 litres VDA, rising to 415 litres when underfloor storage is counted. Its 4,560 mm body needs its own parking check. Keep the measurement method and supplied grade attached to those numbers.
ZR-V Elegance supplies another 2.0 e:HEV SUV option. The current UK benchmark is 130 g/km WLTP combined CO2 and 380 litres VDA with seats up, or 390 including the underfloor compartment, within a 4,568 mm body. A larger exterior does not remove the need to try passenger fit and the load opening.
For staff and pool-car decisions, choose the Honda body around actual work. Jazz's flexible rear area can serve a different equipment task from Civic's conventional boot. A driver with long regular journeys but no dependable charger may assess an e:HEV differently from someone considering an electric model with workplace charging.
Private availability and the contract holder are separate from model choice. Supply the accountant with the full derivative, P11D and certified data. CR-V e:PHEV entries with differing emissions or NI descriptions must be checked individually; neither the electric-car percentage nor a generic plug-in band can be applied to all of them.
VAT-registered businesses can normally reclaim 50% of the VAT on qualifying car rentals where private use is available, depending on circumstances and the normal VAT rules. Full rental-VAT recovery requires exclusive business use with no private availability. Maintenance can fall outside the rental block when it is genuinely optional, separately described in the contract and separately quantified on the invoice; recovery remains subject to normal VAT rules. Read HMRC’s motoring VAT guidance.
The hire-cost rules normally disallow 15% of otherwise deductible rentals for cars above 50 g/km, subject to their scope and exceptions. A company-car BiK easement does not establish relief from this restriction. Check HMRC’s car-hire deduction rules.
For accounting periods beginning on or after 1 January 2026, revised FRS 102 generally requires a right-of-use asset and lease liability for lessees, including small companies using Section 1A. FRS 105 lease accounting for eligible micro-entities was not changed in the same way. Contract hire therefore does not universally keep a car off the balance sheet. Ask your accountant to apply the right framework; HMRC summarises the accounting standards.
Flat Rate Scheme users generally cannot reclaim VAT on recurring car-hire payments. Ask your accountant which VAT regime applies before using the recovery examples above.
A household selecting a Honda should test access and luggage in the configuration it will actually use. Jazz's raised seat bases are useful for certain tall loads, but not when those same seats must carry passengers. HR-V's seating height may solve an access issue even when its measured boot advantage over Jazz is modest.
For Civic or Prelude, the lower body and door arrangement are part of the decision. Prelude's three-door hybrid coupe brief differs from a family five-door hatchback. Assess who will use the rear seats and how often, and compare the full private hire commitment without treating company-car tax percentages as a PCH benefit.
Jazz, Civic, HR-V, ZR-V and Prelude full hybrids retain an emissions-based company-car assessment. The electric models and CR-V plug-in require different inputs. Keep the full tax-year path alongside the exact quotation, rather than treating all Honda electrification as zero-emission.
For private availability to an employee or director, multiply the actual P11D value by the applicable percentage to establish the annual benefit before adjustments; the driver’s income tax rate then determines personal tax. This is distinct from the business’s rental and from a sole trader’s own motoring treatment.
The retained examples are dated catalogue illustrations from 10 September 2026, not current vehicle quotations. They assume a full year, 40% income tax and no employee contributions or other adjustments. Different vehicles illustrate the formula, not a like-for-like saving.
| Listed derivative | P11D | Tax basis | BiK | Tax at 40% |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Civic 2.0 eHEV Elegance | £33,865 | 108 g/km | 27% | £3,657.42 |
| e:Ny1 150kW Elegance 69kWh | £41,185 | Zero-emission electric | 4% | £658.96 |
| Tax specification | 2026/27 | 2027/28 | 2028/29 | 2029/30 |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Zero-emission Honda | 4% | 5% | 7% | 9% |
| Petrol/full hybrid, certified 105-109 g/km | 27% | 27% | 28% | 29% |
| Qualifying PHEV: 1-50 g/km, certified 40-69 electric miles | 10% | 11% | 18% | 19% |
| Qualifying PHEV: 1-50 g/km, certified 70-129 electric miles | 7% | 8% | 18% | 19% |
These are conditional tax bands, not assigned rates for every Honda. Confirm the supplied car’s P11D, certified CO2, fuel type and registration date. Diesel supplements can apply where the required emissions certification is absent, subject to the annual maximum.
The electric-mile figures above are HMRC band thresholds, not promises of this car’s driving range. Newer plug-in hybrid certification can show more than 50 g/km. A temporary company-car easement may treat an eligible car as 1 g/km where the registration date, electric range and Euro-status conditions are met; it is not automatic and must not be transferred to lease-rental deductions. Check the vehicle documents and HMRC’s plug-in hybrid conditions with your accountant.
Use our company-car BiK guide alongside HMRC’s 2026/27 and 2027/28 tables and the published 2028/29 and 2029/30 changes. Tax information checked 27 September 2026 against the C1 ledger and its primary sources. Tax treatment depends on individual circumstances and may change; consult your accountant.
Vehicle Excise Duty (VED). For 2026/27, the standard annual VED payment after the first year is £200 before any supplement. First-year VED depends on CO2 and registration rules; zero-emission cars currently have a £10 first-year rate. These cash rates apply to 2026/27 only; later annual VED rates are not confirmed here. Ask how the funder treats tax increases during your agreement.
Expensive Car Supplement. The Expensive Car Supplement is £440 a year in 2026/27 for five years from the second licence. The list-price threshold is more than £40,000 for petrol, diesel and hybrid cars, or more than £50,000 for qualifying zero-emission cars registered from 1 April 2025. Use the published list price before discounts, including relevant options, and check the registration date. Plug-in hybrids do not receive the electric-car threshold. GOV.UK explains VED and the supplement.
Planned eVED. The government plans Electric Vehicle Excise Duty (eVED) from April 2028, alongside VED: 3p per mile for electric cars and 1.5p per mile for plug-in hybrids. This is proposed for April 2028, subject to legislation and implementation; it is not a charge currently in force. The stated rates are planned starting rates, with CPI uprating proposed from 2029/30 and later cash rates not confirmed. An agreement spanning introduction needs the funder’s written treatment of the charge and later changes. Check the government’s consultation response and final implementation guidance before committing.
e:Ny1 is a fully electric SUV, with IVF catalogue descriptions including 150 kW Elegance and Advance and a 69 kWh battery label. That label does not establish usable capacity. Obtain the matching UK specification before assigning range or charging information to an offered car. Plan for the longest repeated journey and a practical alternative charging location.
Super-N and Honda e have appeared with different compact-car battery labels, 30 kWh and 113 kW/36 kWh respectively. They are separate vehicles, not equipment grades of e:Ny1. Honda e's discontinued status is especially important when a search result or retained listing makes the older car look like a new factory-order choice.
CR-V e:PHEV can use electricity charged from an external source as well as petrol. Estimate both the trips that start with a replenished battery and the longer journeys after that energy is used. CR-V e:HEV follows a non-plug-in routine instead. Combined petrol-and-electric distance must never substitute for the certified electric-only range used in a tax assessment.
For all these choices, use real parking arrangements and tariffs. A charger accessible only occasionally may not support the daily routine you expect. Temperature, speed, loading and equipment affect consumption, so leave a usable reserve and compare like-for-like test measures rather than a favourable headline from another generation.
Honda's standard UK new-car warranty is three years or 90,000 miles, whichever comes first. The longer service-activated programme is conditional, offering eligible cover annually up to eight years or 100,000 miles. Honda identifies qualifying non-commercial vehicles registered from 1 April 2026, with required servicing at an authorised Honda retailer or service centre and further exclusions.
The distinction matters when arranging a business or high-mileage lease. Ask the supplier to document eligibility for the vehicle and intended use; do not infer that every agreement receives eight years automatically. A maintenance option must also be checked against the workshop and servicing conditions on which activation depends.
Hybrid or electric powertrain and high-voltage battery protection have their own policy scope. Keep those documents separate from routine servicing and tyre cover. Check registration date, remaining time and mileage, and how repairs are authorised. The funder's condition standards at return continue to apply even while a manufacturer warranty is active.
For Jazz, bring the awkward item that makes cabin flexibility relevant. Try the raised-base arrangement and the folded-seat option, then establish how the load will be secured. A volume figure alone cannot tell you whether a tall object passes through the door or whether the required passenger seats remain available.
For CR-V, compare the full hybrid and plug-in using the same seating and luggage brief. Any all-wheel-drive or towing requirement must be confirmed on the offered derivative. Do not assume the drivetrain or approved towing limit remains identical when propulsion changes.
Prelude asks for a different compromise: its hybrid coupe body is suited to a customer deliberately choosing that layout. Confirm the actual 2.0 e:HEV Advance specification and supply, and test rear access independently of the Civic comparison. It should not be described as an electric coupe merely because the model uses hybrid technology.
A Honda enquiry becomes much more precise when it states the designation in full. Include e:HEV, e:PHEV or e:Ny1, the body, essential equipment and required timing. For Super-N, obtain current UK specification and allocation confirmation before planning a changeover. For legacy Honda e, use the current alternatives to keep the discussion focused on an achievable new-car requirement.
Tell IVF your annual mileage, regular passengers, essential equipment, charging access where relevant and preferred timing. Ask for the precise model year, derivative, options and registration status to be written into the quotation. The catalogue is a starting point; the offered vehicle and funder terms need confirmation.
Business Contract Hire is taken by the business; Personal Contract Hire is taken by the private individual. Both are subject to status and individual funder criteria. Compare the initial rental, term, mileage, maintenance and applicable fees on the same basis. An initial rental is part of the hire cost, not refundable security or ownership equity.
A manufacturer warranty starts under the supplied car’s warranty terms, normally from first registration. Its time and mileage limits may finish before your lease does. It is separate from optional servicing and tyre cover. Confirm maintenance inclusions, insurance responsibilities, tax provisions and early-termination terms before signing.
At the end of contract hire, return the vehicle; there is no contractual purchase option. Excess mileage, damage beyond the funder’s fair wear and tear standard, missing equipment or other contractual charges may still be payable. Check the return process before choosing your agreement.
Use the linked model pages to examine the exact body and specification, then bring your shortlist to IVF with mileage, timing and essential equipment.

Match the task first: Jazz for compact flexibility, Civic for a five-door hybrid body, an appropriate SUV for access, or electric where charging works. Private availability and certified vehicle data then inform tax. The contract remains subject to status and funder criteria.
The quotation should spell out body, grade and powertrain designation, with model year and required equipment. e:HEV, e:PHEV and e:Ny1 are not interchangeable. Compare the actual car alongside term, mileage and maintenance, and obtain a supply answer for the named derivative.
Honda UK says it has been discontinued in Europe and is no longer available for new purchase. The retained IVF route is a legacy reference. Consider current electric alternatives and ask about the exact vehicle rather than assuming new factory availability.
Jazz’s Magic Seats offer loading arrangements that boot litres alone do not describe. In the scoped Elegance comparison, HR-V has only 15 litres more VDA seats-up space. Test access, luggage and passenger needs to decide whether the SUV seating position helps.
No. Honda’s full-hybrid e:HEV system uses petrol without external charging. e:PHEV is the plug-in designation. Both differ from a battery-electric car, so energy planning and company-car treatment must follow the exact propulsion type.
Start with dependable charging access, then compare the actual body, equipment and drivetrain. The plug-in’s certified CO2 and electric-only range need individual checks, especially where catalogue emissions differ. A general CR-V name does not settle the tax percentage.
The listed Prelude 2.0 e:HEV is a petrol-fed full hybrid in a three-door coupe body. It is a distinct access and styling choice from Civic’s five-door layout, not a battery-electric version of the same car. Confirm the supplied UK specification.
No. They are separate models with different bodies and battery descriptions. Range, usable capacity and charging information must match the actual UK derivative. A catalogue label by itself is not a full technical specification or delivery commitment.
No. Original cover and the service-activated extension are different arrangements. The extension has registration, use, servicing, age and mileage conditions. Obtain written confirmation of eligibility and the applicable terms before relying on it during a lease.
Ask for the scheduled services, workshop arrangements, tyres and exclusions to be itemised. If warranty activation is part of the plan, check that the servicing route qualifies. Insurance, energy and end-of-contract mileage or condition charges remain separate.
