Your Range Rover Velar leasing decision

Intelligent Vehicle Finance helps business and personal drivers choose a Range Rover Velar around the journeys, passengers and equipment that matter. Start with the body and cabin, then compare diesel and plug-in hybrid requirements. The right specification must fit your charging routine, company-car tax position and written lease terms.

Let the Velar earn its place in your routine

Choose the Velar if its cabin and exterior treatment are priorities, then test the practical details that a photograph cannot settle. Sit behind your normal driving position, load the bags you actually carry and check visibility in the places you park. A premium specification is useful only if the everyday fit works.

Its appeal does not remove the need to check rear access and load shape. If your brief is principally about carrying adults or bulky equipment, describe that to IVF before choosing a trim. We can use those requirements to compare suitable catalogue entries.

Range Rover Velar leasing: key facts

  • GB P400e benchmark: up to 39.1 miles WLTP electric range; exact IVF model year, wheels and certification must match.
  • The same P400e manufacturer presentation states CO2 from 39 g/km; this is not a certified value for every listing.
  • P400e uses a 105 kW electric motor with a petrol engine; motor output is not total system power.
  • IVF lists D200, D300, P400 and P400e descriptions, including Belgravia variants and NI-labelled entries.
  • Current UK Dynamic S reference: 11.4-inch Pivi Pro display and 40:20:40 rear-seat folding; edition equipment varies.
  • Current UK length, luggage litres and towing mass require derivative-specific confirmation before a space or trailer decision.
  • GOV.UK: the maximum company-car BiK band is 37% in 2026/27 and 39% in 2029/30; the exact car can fall in a lower band.

Range Rover Velar: three named UK references on IVF model routes
Model referenceManufacturer figuresDecision to check
Velar P400eUp to 39.1 miles WLTP; CO2 from 39 g/km105 kW electric motor plus petrol engine; confirm the exact P400e
Evoque P270eUp to 37 miles WLTP; CO2 from 32 g/km80 kW electric motor plus petrol engine; test the smaller cabin
Range Rover Sport P460eUp to 74 miles WLTP; CO2 from 16 g/km160 kW electric motor plus petrol engine; consider longer electric journeys

These are current GB manufacturer PHEV benchmarks for three IVF model routes, with different bodies and batteries. They are not whole-range ratings or evidence of supply. Confirm model year, wheel specification and certified electric range; road conditions and charging habits affect actual results.

Read the Velar badge before choosing its equipment

IVF’s checked Velar table includes D200 and D300 diesel mild hybrids, P400 petrol mild hybrids and P400e petrol plug-in hybrids. S, Dynamic S, Dynamic SE, Dynamic HSE and Autobiography appear alongside Belgravia Edition, Black and Satin entries. The important distinction is the final letter: P400 and P400e are different powertrains. Some P400e descriptions also carry NI, while others say Revised. Have IVF identify the market and model year rather than assuming that similarly named cars have identical certification or equipment.

Range Rover’s current GB P400e presentation gives an electric benchmark of up to 39.1 miles WLTP and CO2 from 39 g/km, using a 105 kW electric motor alongside the petrol engine. Those are manufacturer comparison figures, not a promise for every P400e in IVF’s table. Wheel choice, temperature, load and battery condition change usable range. Confirm the exact certification before comparing a regular commute with that benchmark; a journey close to the headline distance leaves little room for winter heating or a diversion.

The useful Velar decision is whether its particular mix of cabin design, rear seating and engine choice earns the extra space it occupies in your routine. A Belgravia exterior treatment will not solve an awkward child-seat installation or a load that must stand upright. Compare a diesel and a PHEV with your own bags aboard, because battery packaging can affect usable luggage space. We have not established a current UK derivative-matched boot volume, overall length or towing limit for the supplied cars; request those measurements before committing to a garage, dog crate or trailer.

For a Velar that spends weekdays near a charger and weekends travelling further, compare the P400e’s charged weekday use with petrol consumption after the battery’s usable charge is depleted. For frequent long journeys without charging, put the D200 or D300 into the same annual fuel and maintenance calculation. The P400 mild hybrid belongs in the petrol comparison and does not inherit plug-in tax treatment. Record the original list-price band including options: a hybrid above £40,000 can attract the supplement even when its emissions qualify it for a lower company-car percentage. A negotiated rental does not move that threshold.

Treat charging as part of the P400e decision

A plug-in hybrid needs a realistic place and time to charge. Map a normal working week, including journeys between charges, rather than judging it only by a published combined-consumption figure. On longer trips after the usable electric charge is spent, petrol use becomes a different proposition.

The D200 diesel mild hybrid does not need a plug-in routine. Its company-car calculation is nevertheless different from a qualifying PHEV. Request vehicle-specific emissions and the registration details before comparing the personal tax cost.

Equipment and ride matter more than an edition name

Check wheels, seats, suspension and assistance features against the written build specification. The current Dynamic S equipment above is a reference, not a promise that every vehicle in the catalogue has it. Ask for a test drive in a wheel and suspension combination close to the one proposed.

For a more compact body, compare the Range Rover Evoque. Decide whether its passenger and load space works before treating it as an interchangeable alternative.

Give IVF a usable Velar brief

State the people and luggage carried most weeks, home and work charging access, annual mileage and any towing requirement. A towing request needs the exact vehicle and trailer limits, approved equipment and licence entitlement checked together.

Ask for the specific model year and factory options on the quotation. Review the maintenance scope and warranty limits against the planned lease mileage, especially if the agreement will run beyond the manufacturer cover.

Range Rover Velar company-car tax across the lease

Company-car tax for the Range Rover Velar depends on the supplied vehicle and the tax year. A plug-in hybrid, mild hybrid and conventional engine do not have interchangeable tax treatment. Confirm the certified emissions and any applicable PHEV easement.

For the P400e, the decisive tax check is the certificate, especially near the 40-mile boundary. If it establishes 1-50 g/km and a 30-39-mile electric band, the path below applies. A manufacturer up-to figure cannot allocate that band to every Belgravia or NI entry.

For a director using the Velar privately, multiply the actual P11D value by the appropriate annual percentage before applying the individual income-tax rate. The D300 and P400 need their own emissions-based calculation. Private contract hire does not itself create an employment company-car benefit.

These are conditional tax bands, not assigned rates for every Range Rover Velar. Confirm the supplied car’s P11D, certified CO2, fuel type and registration date. Diesel supplements can apply where the required emissions certification is absent, subject to the annual maximum.

The electric-mile figures above are HMRC band thresholds, not promises of this car’s driving range. Newer plug-in hybrid certification can show more than 50 g/km. A temporary company-car easement may treat an eligible car as 1 g/km where the registration date, electric range and Euro-status conditions are met; it is not automatic and must not be transferred to lease-rental deductions. Check the vehicle documents and HMRC’s plug-in hybrid conditions with your accountant.

Use our company-car BiK guide alongside HMRC’s 2026/27 and 2027/28 tables and the published 2028/29 and 2029/30 changes. Tax information checked 22 September 2026 against the C1 ledger and its primary sources. Tax treatment depends on individual circumstances and may change; consult your accountant.

Road tax and costs across the term

Vehicle Excise Duty (VED). For 2026/27, the standard annual VED payment after the first year is £200 before any supplement. First-year VED depends on CO2 and registration rules; zero-emission cars currently have a £10 first-year rate. These cash rates apply to 2026/27 only; later annual VED rates are not confirmed here. Ask how the funder treats tax increases during your agreement.

Expensive Car Supplement. The Expensive Car Supplement is currently £440 a year for five years from the second licence. The list-price threshold is more than £40,000 for petrol, diesel and hybrid cars, or more than £50,000 for qualifying zero-emission cars registered from 1 April 2025. Use the published list price before discounts, including relevant options, and check the registration date. Plug-in hybrids do not receive the electric-car threshold. GOV.UK explains VED and the supplement.

Planned eVED. The government plans Electric Vehicle Excise Duty (eVED) from April 2028, alongside VED: 3p per mile for electric cars and 1.5p per mile for plug-in hybrids. This is proposed for April 2028, subject to legislation and implementation; it is not a charge currently in force. The stated rates are planned starting rates, with CPI uprating proposed from 2029/30 and later cash rates not confirmed. An agreement spanning introduction needs the funder’s written treatment of the charge and later changes. Check the government’s consultation response and final implementation guidance before committing.

VAT and the business accounts

VAT-registered businesses can normally reclaim 50% of the VAT on qualifying car rentals where private use is available, depending on circumstances and the normal VAT rules. Full rental-VAT recovery requires exclusive business use with no private availability. Maintenance can fall outside the rental block when it is genuinely optional, separately described in the contract and separately quantified on the invoice; recovery remains subject to normal VAT rules. Read HMRC’s motoring VAT guidance.

The hire-cost rules normally disallow 15% of otherwise deductible rentals for cars above 50 g/km, subject to their scope and exceptions. A company-car BiK easement does not establish relief from this restriction. Check HMRC’s car-hire deduction rules.

For accounting periods beginning on or after 1 January 2026, revised FRS 102 generally requires a right-of-use asset and lease liability for lessees, including small companies using Section 1A. FRS 105 lease accounting for eligible micro-entities was not changed in the same way. Contract hire therefore does not universally keep a car off the balance sheet. Ask your accountant to apply the right framework; HMRC summarises the accounting standards.

Build the quotation around the way you will use it

Tell IVF your annual mileage, regular passengers, essential equipment, charging access where relevant and preferred timing. Ask for the precise model year, derivative, options and registration status to be written into the quotation. The catalogue is a starting point; the offered vehicle and funder terms need confirmation.

Business Contract Hire is taken by the business; Personal Contract Hire is taken by the private individual. Both are subject to status and individual funder criteria. Compare the initial rental, term, mileage, maintenance and applicable fees on the same basis. An initial rental is part of the hire cost, not refundable security or ownership equity.

A manufacturer warranty starts under the supplied car’s warranty terms, normally from first registration. Its time and mileage limits may finish before your lease does. It is separate from optional servicing and tyre cover. Confirm maintenance inclusions, insurance responsibilities, tax provisions and early-termination terms before signing.

At the end of contract hire, return the vehicle; there is no contractual purchase option. Excess mileage, damage beyond the funder’s fair wear and tear standard, missing equipment or other contractual charges may still be payable. Check the return process before choosing your agreement.

Range Rover Velar leasing questions

Does P400 mean the same Velar as P400e?

No. IVF lists the P400 as a petrol mild hybrid and the P400e as a plug-in hybrid. Only the latter is part of the PHEV charging and conditional electric-range tax comparison.

Which Velar engines appear in IVF’s table?

The checked route includes D200, D300, P400 and P400e entries. Equipment names include S, Dynamic grades, Autobiography and Belgravia editions. A catalogue entry is not confirmation of a vehicle’s availability.

Can every Velar P400e travel 39.1 miles electrically?

No. That is an up-to WLTP benchmark on the current GB manufacturer page. Match the offered model year, battery and wheels, then allow for temperature, road speed, load and battery condition.

Does the Velar qualify for the 40-mile BiK band?

Do not round a marketing range upwards. The certified electric-range band and CO2 determine the calculation. A qualifying 30-39-mile PHEV follows 14%, 15%, 18% and 19% across 2026/27 to 2029/30.

Should I choose Velar or Range Rover Sport?

The Sport P460e manufacturer benchmark allows a longer electric-distance comparison, while cabin access and load shape need a physical check. Select the body and certified derivative around your passengers, parking and charging pattern.

What does NI mean on a Velar description?

Treat it as a regional specification flag requiring confirmation. Ask IVF to identify the intended market, registration and certification. Do not automatically apply the GB P400e benchmark to an NI-labelled entry.

Is every Velar boot the same size?

Do not assume that across engines or model years. Ask for the exact PHEV or mild-hybrid load-space specification and test your luggage with the rear seats occupied before choosing the derivative.

Does a low-emission Velar avoid the expensive-car charge?

Low CO2 does not give a PHEV the zero-emission list-price threshold. For the current rules, assess the Velar’s original list price including relevant options against the £40,000 non-electric threshold.

Does Velar warranty last for the whole agreement?

Warranty and lease terms are separate. Confirm the first-registration start date, time and mileage limits, and the arrangements if cover ends before the lease.

What should I send for a Velar quotation?

Send your annual mileage, passenger and luggage needs, charging access, preferred equipment and agreement type. Ask for an itemised vehicle specification and complete contract-cost explanation.
