Intelligent Vehicle Finance helps you assess Leapmotor T03 leasing for short, repeatable journeys in a compact electric car. The UK T03 has four seats and a 37.3 kWh battery. Start with passenger needs and dependable charging, then confirm the single listed derivative, warranty terms and contract for your mileage.
The T03 should be considered as a small electric tool for a known pattern of travel. A local professional moving between appointments, a business with short repeatable staff journeys, or a household wanting a second car may be able to define that task clearly. Start with the longest ordinary day and where the car will recharge, then decide whether its four-seat layout and luggage space fit.
This is not a page about getting the largest possible car or carrying a full office team. Four seats is a firm selection point: a fifth occasional passenger changes the brief. Try access to the back, child-seat arrangements if relevant, and the equipment that must travel in the boot. A compact car is attractive for parking only if the cabin can still carry the people and possessions required.
For a business owner, the electric company-car tax path is useful to understand, but it does not establish operational suitability. Someone who regularly leaves home without a predictable destination or return time should examine charging resilience carefully. Where the daily job is stable, the T03 can be assessed against that pattern without pretending that a laboratory range figure covers every possible journey.
| Model | Decision it answers | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Leapmotor T03 | Four-seat electric travel on predictable local routes | Charging access and passenger capacity come before specification extras |
| Toyota Aygo X | Compact full-hybrid city car when charging is unavailable | Petrol use and CO2-based tax replace the electric-car calculation |
| Mazda 2 Hybrid | Small full-hybrid automatic with a different cabin brief | Try rear seating and choose the equipment grade |
These compact hybrids are alternatives if external charging is the deciding obstacle. They are not electric-range substitutes for the T03.
The captured route contains one derivative described as 70kW 37kWh 5dr Auto. Leapmotor’s UK technical material identifies the battery more precisely as 37.3 kWh. The catalogue’s body label should not lead you to expect a conventional family SUV: the UK manufacturer presents the T03 as a compact city car. Confirm the specification in the quotation and inspect the actual layout.
The importer’s current UK model page continues to present the T03, while its UK specification sheet documents the battery and equipment. That establishes a UK product, not an IVF allocation. Ask IVF to check the proposed car’s model year, registration position, colour and supply basis. There is no benefit in choosing options from an overseas T03 specification when the UK car and contractual offer have not been identified.
A single row also means there is little value in an elaborate trim comparison. Put the attention into whether this version does the job: four passengers at most, the required luggage, the phone functions you need, and the charging routine. If one of those is essential and cannot be confirmed, widen the shortlist instead of assuming a future software update or a different-market feature will solve it.
Leapmotor quotes up to 165 miles on the WLTP combined cycle for the UK 37.3 kWh specification. Treat that as a comparison benchmark, not a promise that you can leave with a full battery and drive that distance in winter. Speed, heating, weather, load and battery condition affect the result. Keep a practical reserve and have the supplied derivative’s figures confirmed before relying on them.
A home or workplace charging space needs more than a nearby socket. Establish permission, installation suitability, cable reach and when the bay is actually available. If several employees share the T03, decide who plugs it in and who checks that charging started. A car left unplugged after the previous shift can defeat an otherwise sound daily plan.
Public charging can support occasional longer travel, but assess the actual locations on your routes. Check connector compatibility, access hours, payment method and a second site if the first is unavailable. Do not judge a stop solely by a charger’s advertised maximum power; the vehicle, battery temperature and state of charge also limit the rate. The quoted agreement should make clear which charging cables and accessories are supplied.
The T03’s warranty wording needs care. The March 2026 UK manufacturer terms give three years or 60,000 miles, whichever comes first, while the UK specification sheet advertises a fourth year as additional warranty cover. Obtain both sets of terms for the offered car. Do not describe the extra year as if it were automatically identical to the manufacturer’s first three years.
The same official material identifies separate high-voltage battery cover, but the applicable mileage, capacity threshold and exclusions should be checked in the vehicle’s documents. For a high-mileage business, compare the limit with the planned annual use rather than looking only at the number of years. Routine servicing, tyres, accidental damage and insurance remain separate questions from a warranty against qualifying defects.
At handover, demonstrate charging, the supplied cables, heating, locking and any phone or app functions the driver expects to use. Test the actual UK car rather than assuming that a video from another market describes it. Record the service contact and reporting process for faults. These are practical acceptance checks; there is no need to speculate about future resale values or the long-term prospects of the brand.
The UK T03’s battery-electric powertrain uses the zero-emission company-car path below. Its small size does not create a separate exemption, and the percentage still multiplies the supplied car’s P11D value. For a genuine pool arrangement, ask your accountant to check the pool-car conditions rather than assuming a shared key prevents a taxable benefit.
For an employee or director with private use, the taxable benefit normally starts with the car’s P11D value multiplied by the applicable BiK percentage. Personal tax then depends on the individual’s income tax rate and any relevant adjustments. The percentage is not the tax rate applied to the lease rental. A sole trader’s own business car use follows different rules.
The agreement can cross several tax years. Compare the whole path, not just the percentage in the year the car arrives.
| Tax specification | 2026/27 | 2027/28 | 2028/29 | 2029/30 |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Zero-emission T03, private-use company car | 4% | 5% | 7% | 9% |
Use our company-car BiK guide alongside HMRC’s 2026/27 and 2027/28 tables and the published 2028/29 and 2029/30 changes. Tax information checked 27 September 2026 against the C1 ledger and its primary sources. Tax treatment depends on individual circumstances and may change; consult your accountant.
Vehicle Excise Duty (VED). For 2026/27, the standard annual VED payment after the first year is £200 before any supplement. First-year VED depends on CO2 and registration rules; zero-emission cars currently have a £10 first-year rate. These cash rates apply to 2026/27 only; later annual VED rates are not confirmed here. Ask how the funder treats tax increases during your agreement.
Expensive Car Supplement. The Expensive Car Supplement is currently £440 a year for five years from the second licence. The list-price threshold is more than £40,000 for petrol, diesel and hybrid cars, or more than £50,000 for qualifying zero-emission cars registered from 1 April 2025. Use the published list price before discounts, including relevant options, and check the registration date. Plug-in hybrids do not receive the electric-car threshold. GOV.UK explains VED and the supplement.
Planned eVED. The government plans Electric Vehicle Excise Duty (eVED) from April 2028, alongside VED: 3p per mile for electric cars and 1.5p per mile for plug-in hybrids. This is proposed for April 2028, subject to legislation and implementation; it is not a charge currently in force. The stated rates are planned starting rates, with CPI uprating proposed from 2029/30 and later cash rates not confirmed. An agreement spanning introduction needs the funder’s written treatment of the charge and later changes. Check the government’s consultation response and final implementation guidance before committing.
VAT-registered businesses can normally reclaim 50% of the VAT on qualifying car rentals where private use is available, depending on circumstances and the normal VAT rules. Full rental-VAT recovery requires exclusive business use with no private availability. Maintenance can fall outside the rental block when it is genuinely optional, separately described in the contract and separately quantified on the invoice; recovery remains subject to normal VAT rules. Read HMRC’s motoring VAT guidance.
Businesses using the VAT Flat Rate Scheme do not normally recover input VAT on recurring car hire. The separate capital-goods exception does not turn hire invoices into a vehicle purchase. Check HMRC’s Flat Rate Scheme guidance.
A zero-emission car is not subject to the CO2-based lease-rental restriction. Check HMRC’s car-hire deduction rules.
For accounting periods beginning on or after 1 January 2026, revised FRS 102 generally requires a right-of-use asset and lease liability for lessees, including small companies using Section 1A. FRS 105 lease accounting for eligible micro-entities was not changed in the same way. Contract hire therefore does not universally keep a car off the balance sheet. Ask your accountant to apply the right framework; HMRC summarises the accounting standards.
Tell IVF your annual mileage, regular passengers, essential equipment, charging access where relevant and preferred timing. Ask for the precise model year, derivative, options and registration status to be written into the quotation. The catalogue is a starting point; the offered vehicle and funder terms need confirmation.
Business Contract Hire is taken by the business; Personal Contract Hire is taken by the private individual. Both are subject to status and individual funder criteria. Compare the initial rental, term, mileage, maintenance and applicable fees on the same basis. An initial rental is part of the hire cost, not refundable security or ownership equity.
A manufacturer warranty starts under the supplied car’s warranty terms, normally from first registration. Its time and mileage limits may finish before your lease does. It is separate from optional servicing and tyre cover. Confirm maintenance inclusions, insurance responsibilities, tax provisions and early-termination terms before signing.
At the end of contract hire, return the vehicle; there is no contractual purchase option. Excess mileage, damage beyond the funder’s fair wear and tear standard, missing equipment or other contractual charges may still be payable. Check the return process before choosing your agreement.

Yes. The UK T03 is a battery-electric city car with a 37.3 kWh battery in the manufacturer’s specification sheet. IVF’s catalogue rounds that to 37kWh. It needs external charging and has no petrol engine to extend a journey.
The UK T03 has four seats. Check this early if you sometimes need to carry five people. Try the rear access and luggage arrangement in the actual car rather than assuming that a five-door body means five passenger places.
You can discuss the listed electric derivative with IVF, subject to vehicle confirmation, status and funder criteria. For an employee or director with private use, the zero-emission company-car percentage applies to P11D value, not to the lease rental.
The UK benchmark is up to 165 miles WLTP combined for the 37.3 kWh version. It is not a promise for your route. Confirm the supplied car and allow for weather, speed, heating, load, battery condition and a sensible charging reserve.
The September capture contains one row, 70kW 37kWh 5dr Auto. Ask IVF to confirm the vehicle’s model year and specification. The row is a catalogue entry, not proof of physical availability or a delivery date.
The UK manufacturer terms dated March 2026 give T03 three years or 60,000 miles, whichever comes first. The UK specification sheet advertises one additional year. Ask for that additional policy and its eligibility and exclusions before treating the whole period as equivalent cover.
Potentially, but only if dependable charging is available elsewhere. Check access hours, payment, waiting time and an alternative site on your routine routes. A public charger shown on a map is not enough to establish a workable weekly plan.
Electric cars are subject to VED. The main body explains the current first-year and standard rates, supplement thresholds and planned eVED. Ask the funder how existing tax and any future mileage-based charge would be handled under your agreement.
Confirm the precise UK car, term, mileage, initial rental, maintenance basis, supplied charging cables and applicable warranty documents. Set out insurance, servicing and tax responsibilities too. A small car still needs a complete contract and handover brief.
If charging is the obstacle, compare a compact hybrid such as Aygo X or Mazda 2 Hybrid. They need petrol and use different company-car tax rules. If four seats or luggage space is the obstacle, ask IVF to widen the vehicle brief.
