Intelligent Vehicle Finance supports Mercedes-Benz A-Class business and personal leasing enquiries, including questions about the Saloon. The current IVF capture lists Hatchback derivatives, so Saloon supply needs separate confirmation. Compare petrol, diesel and plug-in hybrid descriptions carefully, then build the lease quotation around your mileage, equipment and contract preferences.
Searches for an A-Class Saloon are understandable, but they should not be answered with a Hatchback quotation by default. IVF’s captured derivative table contains Hatchbacks only. Tell us specifically if the separate boot and saloon shape are essential. Current UK specification and supply would need confirming before a Saloon proposal could be described as suitable. The absence of a listing is not proof of a worldwide production decision.
The A-Class is a weaker fit if your normal rear-seat group or bulky load already strains a compact car. Equally, a plug-in version is not automatically the right answer for someone who cannot charge predictably. Identify the awkward journey or item first and test it in the relevant version. If that test fails, changing the trim name will not fix the underlying vehicle choice.
| Model | Reason to consider it | Decision to resolve |
|---|---|---|
| Mercedes-Benz A-Class | Compact Hatchback for daily mixed use | Saloon supply is not established by this catalogue |
| Mercedes-Benz CLA | Separate model and body-style enquiry | Do not treat CLA as an A-Class Saloon |
| Mercedes-Benz GLA | SUV seating and loading comparison | Identify its generation and powertrain |
Compare named derivatives and equipment on the same contract assumptions. This table explains the different roles of these cars; it is not a performance ranking.
The live catalogue includes A180 Sport Edition and Sport Executive, A200 petrol versions, A200d diesel versions and A250e plug-in hybrids. AMG Line Executive, Premium and Premium Plus wording appears across parts of the list. The performance end contains A35 and A45 S descriptions, including named editions. Ask IVF to retain the complete description when building a comparison, because short badges omit important equipment and drivetrain differences.
The current Mercedes-Benz UK A 180 technical reference is a petrol mild hybrid. Mild-hybrid assistance is not a promise of plug-in electric commuting, and it does not put the car into the zero-emission company-car category. The A250e is a different proposition with an externally rechargeable battery. A petrol A200, a diesel A200d and an A250e should therefore be compared as different ways of operating the car.
A broad model-family maximum is particularly unhelpful where powertrain packaging differs. The manufacturer’s A-Class page itself distinguishes the current technical reference from a wider boot-capacity statement. Use the supplied derivative’s specification and a physical check instead of selecting whichever number looks larger. If the PHEV changes the storage space, decide whether the charging benefit still outweighs the practical compromise for your household.
Consider the sequence of journeys as well as their distance. Several short trips with a chance to recharge between them differ from a continuous working day away from home. Ask for the exact car’s electric-range and charging specification rather than borrowing the A 180 figures or another hybrid’s benchmark. The current copy deliberately avoids assigning an unverified numerical A250e range across the listings.
A customer asking for AMG Line may primarily want the appearance and equipment treatment. An A35 or A45 S enquiry is a performance-car decision with separate drivetrain and running-cost implications. Do not let a shortened advertisement collapse those categories. Identify the exact model first, then obtain an insurance indication and review tyre, servicing and maintenance requirements for it.
The CLA is a separate model route, useful when your brief is specifically about that body style and its available powertrains. It should not be presented as an A-Class Saloon without qualification. Compare access, rear-seat comfort and luggage loading in the actual car. Keep electric and hybrid CLA enquiries distinct from the A-Class engines listed here.
The GLA is relevant when the reason for reconsidering the A-Class is seating height or an SUV layout. Its different versions also need careful identification. Sit in both with the same passengers and adjust the front seats to normal positions. A useful comparison answers the problem you have found with the Hatchback; it does not simply move you to another Mercedes because it sits nearby in a model menu.
State whether you are requesting personal leasing or business contract hire, and make Hatchback or Saloon explicit. Give IVF the annual mileage, preferred term and initial-rental structure, plus the features you cannot do without. Mention maintenance if you want it evaluated. The funder panel can then be considered against a consistent specification, subject to status and individual criteria.
Review the complete schedule when comparing the responses. A different initial payment, equipment pack or mileage allowance can make headline figures misleading as a comparison. Keep your insurance and energy assumptions alongside the contract costs. The right quotation should make the chosen A-Class, its conditions and the responsibilities at return understandable before you sign.
An A-Class company-car choice spans several tax categories. The A180 reference, diesel entries, plug-in A250e and AMG derivatives cannot share a single assigned percentage.
Use the quoted A-Class P11D and its certified emissions, fuel and registration information to establish the appropriate percentage. The employee’s income-tax circumstances then determine the liability on the benefit. This calculation is separate from a business’s hire payments.
An A250e requires its own electric-range and emissions evidence, including any relevant PHEV easement check. The rows below are conditional examples covering the catalogue’s different powertrains. A petrol mild hybrid does not qualify for the zero-emission percentage simply because its engine receives electric assistance.
| Tax specification | 2026/27 | 2027/28 | 2028/29 | 2029/30 |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Qualifying PHEV: 1-50 g/km; certified electric range 30-39 miles | 14% | 15% | 18% | 19% |
| Qualifying PHEV: 1-50 g/km; certified electric range 40-69 miles | 10% | 11% | 18% | 19% |
| Qualifying PHEV: 1-50 g/km; certified electric range 70-129 miles | 7% | 8% | 18% | 19% |
| High-CO2 petrol or qualifying diesel at the maximum band | 37% | 37% | 38% | 39% |
These are conditional tax bands, not assigned rates for every Mercedes-Benz A-Class. Confirm the supplied car’s P11D, certified CO2, fuel type and registration date. Diesel supplements can apply where the required emissions certification is absent, subject to the annual maximum.
The electric-mile figures above are HMRC band thresholds, not promises of this car’s driving range. Newer plug-in hybrid certification can show more than 50 g/km. A temporary company-car easement may treat an eligible car as 1 g/km where the registration date, electric range and Euro-status conditions are met; it is not automatic and must not be transferred to lease-rental deductions. Check the vehicle documents and HMRC’s plug-in hybrid conditions with your accountant.
Use our company-car BiK guide alongside HMRC’s 2026/27 and 2027/28 tables and the published 2028/29 and 2029/30 changes. Tax information checked 24 September 2026 against the C1 ledger and its primary sources. Tax treatment depends on individual circumstances and may change; consult your accountant.
Vehicle Excise Duty (VED). For 2026/27, the standard annual VED payment after the first year is £200 before any supplement. First-year VED depends on CO2 and registration rules; zero-emission cars currently have a £10 first-year rate. These cash rates apply to 2026/27 only; later annual VED rates are not confirmed here. Ask how the funder treats tax increases during your agreement.
Expensive Car Supplement. The Expensive Car Supplement is currently £440 a year for five years from the second licence. The list-price threshold is more than £40,000 for petrol, diesel and hybrid cars, or more than £50,000 for qualifying zero-emission cars registered from 1 April 2025. Use the published list price before discounts, including relevant options, and check the registration date. Plug-in hybrids do not receive the electric-car threshold. GOV.UK explains VED and the supplement.
Planned eVED. The government plans Electric Vehicle Excise Duty (eVED) from April 2028, alongside VED: 3p per mile for electric cars and 1.5p per mile for plug-in hybrids. This is proposed for April 2028, subject to legislation and implementation; it is not a charge currently in force. The stated rates are planned starting rates, with CPI uprating proposed from 2029/30 and later cash rates not confirmed. An agreement spanning introduction needs the funder’s written treatment of the charge and later changes. Check the government’s consultation response and final implementation guidance before committing.
VAT-registered businesses can normally reclaim 50% of the VAT on qualifying car rentals where private use is available, depending on circumstances and the normal VAT rules. Full rental-VAT recovery requires exclusive business use with no private availability. Maintenance can fall outside the rental block when it is genuinely optional, separately described in the contract and separately quantified on the invoice; recovery remains subject to normal VAT rules. Read HMRC’s motoring VAT guidance.
Businesses using the VAT Flat Rate Scheme do not normally recover input VAT on recurring car hire. The separate capital-goods exception does not turn hire invoices into a vehicle purchase. Check HMRC’s Flat Rate Scheme guidance.
The hire-cost rules normally disallow 15% of otherwise deductible rentals for cars above 50 g/km, subject to their scope and exceptions. A company-car BiK easement does not establish relief from this restriction. Check HMRC’s car-hire deduction rules.
For accounting periods beginning on or after 1 January 2026, revised FRS 102 generally requires a right-of-use asset and lease liability for lessees, including small companies using Section 1A. FRS 105 lease accounting for eligible micro-entities was not changed in the same way. Contract hire therefore does not universally keep a car off the balance sheet. Ask your accountant to apply the right framework; HMRC summarises the accounting standards.
Tell IVF your annual mileage, regular passengers, essential equipment, charging access where relevant and preferred timing. Ask for the precise model year, derivative, options and registration status to be written into the quotation. The catalogue is a starting point; the offered vehicle and funder terms need confirmation.
Business Contract Hire is taken by the business; Personal Contract Hire is taken by the private individual. Both are subject to status and individual funder criteria. Compare the initial rental, term, mileage, maintenance and applicable fees on the same basis. An initial rental is part of the hire cost, not refundable security or ownership equity.
A manufacturer warranty starts under the supplied car’s warranty terms, normally from first registration. Its time and mileage limits may finish before your lease does. It is separate from optional servicing and tyre cover. Confirm maintenance inclusions, insurance responsibilities, tax provisions and early-termination terms before signing.
At the end of contract hire, return the vehicle; there is no contractual purchase option. Excess mileage, damage beyond the funder’s fair wear and tear standard, missing equipment or other contractual charges may still be payable. Check the return process before choosing your agreement.
Use Mercedes Benz range, Mercedes-Benz CLA, Mercedes-Benz GLA, company-car BiK guide, request a callback to narrow your choice or discuss a quotation.
Yes, but specify Saloon clearly. IVF’s table captured in September lists Hatchbacks only. A current UK Saloon specification and an actual supply proposal need separate confirmation; this page does not promise Saloon availability.
Give IVF the business details, required body, derivative, mileage, term and maintenance preference. Proposals depend on the offered car and funder terms, subject to status. Private use and company-car tax should be assessed separately.
Model year, powertrain, equipment, annual mileage, agreement length, initial rental and included services can all change the proposal. Compare the complete schedule on matching assumptions, rather than an isolated first payment.
No. The current UK A 180 reference is a petrol mild hybrid; A250e describes a plug-in hybrid. They need different charging and tax assessments, and their practical specifications should not be interchanged.
No. They appear as separate performance derivatives in the captured list. An AMG Line styling preference should be separated from a request for one of those powertrains, including its insurance and maintenance implications.
No. Mercedes-Benz UK scopes capacity by model and powertrain. Use the exact offered derivative’s specification and check your luggage through its opening; a model-family maximum is not a universal capacity.
Compare them if body style, passenger access or the CLA’s powertrain choice is relevant. CLA is a separate model, so a CLA proposal should not silently substitute for an explicitly requested A-Class Saloon.
When the decision turns on an SUV layout or seating position. Test the same passengers and luggage in both, and identify the GLA’s actual generation and powertrain before comparing the contracts.
No. Qualifying low-emission hybrid bands change across the published tax years. The supplied car’s certification and registration matter, and the later appropriate percentages must be included in a multi-year assessment.
Write down essential seating, parking, lighting and connectivity functions, then match them to the offered car. Check optional packages and any subscription periods rather than assuming every feature shown online is included.
