Your Mercedes-Benz G-Class leasing decision

Intelligent Vehicle Finance helps you compare Mercedes-Benz G-Class business and personal leasing. Mercedes UK's current range is the G 450 d diesel, the electric G 580 with EQ Technology and the Mercedes-AMG G 63, with 290-291 miles of WLTP range quoted for the G 580. Confirm the exact vehicle, costs and supply before committing.

Mercedes G-Class business lease: choose the powertrain before the badge

A G-Class enquiry often starts with the silhouette, yet the decision that shapes the lease sits underneath it. Mercedes-Benz UK now sells three very different cars in one shape: a 367 hp six-cylinder G 450 d diesel, a 587 hp four-motor G 580 with EQ Technology and the 585 hp V8 Mercedes-AMG G 63. They share a ladder frame and LOW RANGE gearing, but not their tax, running costs or daily routine.

Our view is that the G-Class suits a driver who values its upright character and genuine off-road engineering. If the real need is a large premium car for people, compare the GLS first. For a company car, the powertrain changes personal tax far more than any trim will.

Mercedes-Benz G-Class leasing: key facts

  • Mercedes-Benz UK's G-Class brochure for July 2026 production lists the G 450 d, the G 580 with EQ Technology and the Mercedes-AMG G 63 in standard, Carbon, MANUFAKTUR and Magno Editions.
  • G 450 d: 2,989 cc six-cylinder diesel, 367 hp plus a 20 hp mild-hybrid boost, 750 Nm, 0-62 mph in 5.8 seconds, WLTP CO2 234-242 g/km.
  • G 580 with EQ Technology: four electric motors, 587 hp (432 kW), 1,164 Nm and a 116 kWh usable battery, with 290-291 miles WLTP Equivalent All-Electric Range.
  • G 580 charging, per Mercedes UK: about 32 minutes for 10-80% at a 200 kW DC charger, and about 12 hours for 0-100% on an 11 kW wallbox.
  • Mercedes-AMG G 63: 3,982 cc V8 biturbo, 585 hp plus a 20 hp mild-hybrid boost, 850 Nm, 0-62 mph in 4.4 seconds, WLTP CO2 337 g/km.
  • GOV.UK: the maximum company-car BiK band is 37% in 2026/27 and 39% in 2029/30; the exact car can fall in a lower band.

What Mercedes UK sells now, and what IVF's catalogue shows

Mercedes-Benz UK's G-Class brochure, effective from July 2026 production, lists the G 450 d in PROFESSIONAL Line and AMG Line Premium Plus, the G 580 with EQ Technology in AMG Line Premium Plus, and four Mercedes-AMG G 63 versions: standard, Carbon Edition, MANUFAKTUR Edition and Magno Edition. PROFESSIONAL Line is the utility-styled specification, with its own exterior finish, night package, mud flaps and a robust spare wheel.

IVF's live G-Class route also carries a G 500 AMG Line Premium Plus description. The G 500, a 3.0-litre six-cylinder petrol mild hybrid, arrived with the 2024 update but does not appear in the current UK brochure. Treat a G 500 entry as an individual vehicle to confirm, not as a factory-order choice.

Is the electric G 580 right for your working week?

Mercedes quotes a 116 kWh usable battery and a WLTP Equivalent All-Electric Range of 290-291 miles for the G 580. At a 200 kW DC charger, Mercedes UK gives about 32 minutes for 10-80%; on an 11 kW home or workplace wallbox, about 12 hours for a full charge. Real-world range will be lower in cold weather, at motorway speed and off road.

The practical question is where the car charges on an ordinary day. An overnight wallbox makes the G 580 straightforward; relying on public rapid chargers is a different proposition for a car Mercedes lists at over 3,100 kg.

For a company car the gap is large. The G 580 sits in the 4% BiK band for 2026/27, while the G 450 d and AMG G 63 sit at the 37% maximum. Mercedes UK's brochure also shows no towing figure for the G 580, whereas both combustion cars are rated to 3,500 kg braked.

Off-road ability and physical fit

Every G-Class keeps the ladder frame, independent front suspension, rigid rear axle and LOW RANGE reduction. The combustion cars use three mechanical differential locks; the G 580 creates the same effect virtually by controlling each of its four motors. Mercedes quotes a 700 mm fording depth for the combustion G-Class and 850 mm for the G 580, with approach and departure angles of 30.9 and 29.9 degrees for the combustion car.

G-TURN and G-STEERING on the G 580 are for loose or soft surfaces with the landowner's permission; Mercedes states they must not be used on public roads. Describe any off-road or towing task to IVF so the funder can confirm permitted use.

Measure your parking space first: Mercedes lists the G 580 at 1,986 mm tall and the PROFESSIONAL roof rack takes the combustion car to 2,038 mm. The GLS tests passenger space; the Defender a broader utility brief.

Build a useful G-Class lease-price comparison

Name the powertrain and edition before asking for a quotation, then the mileage and term. Otherwise a comparison may mix a V8 petrol, a diesel and an electric car with very different tax and running costs.

Mercedes UK lists every current G-Class in insurance group 50P, so check cover for the exact derivative and drivers early. Fuel use varies widely too: WLTP combined figures are 28.5-32.1 mpg for the G 450 d and 18.1-19.1 mpg for the AMG G 63. Where a maintenance package is offered, ask exactly what it covers.

Mercedes-Benz G-Class company-car tax across the lease

G-Class is a mixed-powertrain route, not a single tax category. Mercedes UK lists the electric G 580 at 0 g/km, in the 4% band for 2026/27, and the G 450 d and AMG G 63 at 234-337 g/km, in the 37% maximum band.

For an employee or director with private use, the taxable benefit normally starts with the car’s P11D value multiplied by the applicable BiK percentage. Personal tax then depends on the individual’s income tax rate and any relevant adjustments. The percentage is not the tax rate applied to the lease rental. A sole trader’s own business car use follows different rules.

The agreement can cross several tax years. Compare the whole path, not just the percentage in the year the car arrives.

G 450 d and AMG G 63: 234-337 g/km, maximum band37%37%38%39%

These are conditional tax bands, not assigned rates for every Mercedes-Benz G-Class. Confirm the supplied car’s P11D, certified CO2, fuel type and registration date. Diesel supplements can apply where the required emissions certification is absent, subject to the annual maximum.

Use our company-car BiK guide alongside HMRC’s 2026/27 and 2027/28 tables and the published 2028/29 and 2029/30 changes. Tax information checked 24 September 2026 against the C1 ledger and its primary sources. Tax treatment depends on individual circumstances and may change; consult your accountant.

Road tax and costs across the term

Vehicle Excise Duty (VED). For 2026/27, the standard annual VED payment after the first year is £200 before any supplement. First-year VED depends on CO2 and registration rules; zero-emission cars currently have a £10 first-year rate. These cash rates apply to 2026/27 only; later annual VED rates are not confirmed here. Ask how the funder treats tax increases during your agreement.

Expensive Car Supplement. The Expensive Car Supplement is £440 a year in 2026/27 for five years from the second licence. The list-price threshold is more than £40,000 for petrol, diesel and hybrid cars, or more than £50,000 for qualifying zero-emission cars registered from 1 April 2025. Use the published list price before discounts, including relevant options, and check the registration date. Plug-in hybrids do not receive the electric-car threshold. GOV.UK explains VED and the supplement.

Planned eVED. The government plans Electric Vehicle Excise Duty (eVED) from April 2028, alongside VED: 3p per mile for electric cars and 1.5p per mile for plug-in hybrids. This is proposed for April 2028, subject to legislation and implementation; it is not a charge currently in force. The stated rates are planned starting rates, with CPI uprating proposed from 2029/30 and later cash rates not confirmed. An agreement spanning introduction needs the funder’s written treatment of the charge and later changes. Check the government’s consultation response and final implementation guidance before committing.

VAT and the business accounts

VAT-registered businesses can normally reclaim 50% of the VAT on qualifying car rentals where private use is available, depending on circumstances and the normal VAT rules. Full rental-VAT recovery requires exclusive business use with no private availability. Maintenance can fall outside the rental block when it is genuinely optional, separately described in the contract and separately quantified on the invoice; recovery remains subject to normal VAT rules. Read HMRC’s motoring VAT guidance.

The hire-cost rules normally disallow 15% of otherwise deductible rentals for cars above 50 g/km, subject to their scope and exceptions. A company-car BiK easement does not establish relief from this restriction. Check HMRC’s car-hire deduction rules.

For accounting periods beginning on or after 1 January 2026, revised FRS 102 generally requires a right-of-use asset and lease liability for lessees, including small companies using Section 1A. FRS 105 lease accounting for eligible micro-entities was not changed in the same way. Contract hire therefore does not universally keep a car off the balance sheet. Ask your accountant to apply the right framework; HMRC summarises the accounting standards.

Flat Rate Scheme users generally cannot reclaim VAT on recurring car-hire payments. Ask your accountant which VAT regime applies before using the recovery examples above.

Build the quotation around the way you will use it

Tell IVF your annual mileage, regular passengers, essential equipment, charging access where relevant and preferred timing. Ask for the precise model year, derivative, options and registration status to be written into the quotation. The catalogue is a starting point; the offered vehicle and funder terms need confirmation.

Business Contract Hire is taken by the business; Personal Contract Hire is taken by the private individual. Both are subject to status and individual funder criteria. Compare the initial rental, term, mileage, maintenance and applicable fees on the same basis. An initial rental is part of the hire cost, not refundable security or ownership equity.

A manufacturer warranty starts under the supplied car’s warranty terms, normally from first registration. Its time and mileage limits may finish before your lease does. It is separate from optional servicing and tyre cover. Confirm maintenance inclusions, insurance responsibilities, tax provisions and early-termination terms before signing.

At the end of contract hire, return the vehicle; there is no contractual purchase option. Excess mileage, damage beyond the funder’s fair wear and tear standard, missing equipment or other contractual charges may still be payable. Check the return process before choosing your agreement.

Mercedes-Benz G-Class leasing questions

Can I discuss a Mercedes G-Class business lease?

Yes. Start with the powertrain: G 450 d diesel, electric G 580 or Mercedes-AMG G 63. Then add the edition, annual mileage and contract term. Any proposal is subject to status and individual funder criteria.

What range does the electric G 580 have?

Mercedes UK quotes 290-291 miles WLTP Equivalent All-Electric Range from a 116 kWh usable battery. Real-world range will be lower in cold weather, at speed and off road. Confirm the figures for the exact car offered.

How quickly does the G 580 charge?

Mercedes UK gives about 32 minutes for 10-80% at a 200 kW DC rapid charger, and about 12 hours for 0-100% on an 11 kW wallbox. Actual times depend on the charger, battery temperature and state of charge.

Is the G 500 still available?

Mercedes UK's current G-Class brochure, for July 2026 production, lists the G 450 d, G 580 and AMG G 63 but not the G 500. IVF's catalogue still shows a G 500 description, so treat it as an individual vehicle to confirm with IVF.

Which G 63 editions are there?

Mercedes UK lists the Mercedes-AMG G 63 plus Carbon Edition, MANUFAKTUR Edition and Magno Edition versions. Ask for the full equipment and paint specification of the offered car; a catalogue row is not an allocation or delivery commitment.

How does company-car tax compare across the G-Class?

For 2026/27 the electric G 580 sits in the 4% BiK band, while the G 450 d at 234-242 g/km and the AMG G 63 at 337 g/km sit at the 37% maximum. The P11D value and the driver's income tax rate then decide the personal tax.

Can the G-Class tow?

Mercedes UK rates the G 450 d and AMG G 63 at 3,500 kg braked and 750 kg unbraked. Its brochure shows no towing figure for the G 580. Confirm the exact car's approved limits, fitted equipment and the funder's permitted use before relying on towing.

Is a G-Class the same sort of choice as a GLS?

They answer different priorities. If passenger accommodation drives the decision, inspect the GLS alongside the G-Class. Check access, seating and luggage in person, using the people and equipment you normally carry, before selecting the car for its appearance.

How is a G-Class lease price compared fairly?

Use the same powertrain, edition, equipment, term, mileage and initial rental. Establish maintenance, fees and tax provisions separately. A comparison between a G 63 and a G 580 also needs fuel or charging costs and the driver’s personal tax position.

Does the G-Class quotation include insurance and maintenance?

Check the written agreement. Insurance responsibilities and optional maintenance are separate decisions, and cover must not be inferred from an edition name. Ask about servicing, tyres, exclusions and the process for repairs before comparing the complete cost.
