Porsche Cayenne Electric: Range, Charging And The Company Car Tax Gap Explained

Porsche delivered 7,002 Cayenne Electric SUVs in the first months after its summer 2026 launch, according to its nine-month figures published on 9 October. That is close to the 8,699 Taycans it delivered in the whole of January to September. For UK company car drivers, the electric Cayenne has a 4% Benefit in Kind percentage in 2026/27. The E-Hybrid needs a closer check: HMRC's temporary plug-in hybrid easement can give qualifying cars a lower band than their recorded CO2 suggests. Here is what Porsche offers in the UK, how far it goes and how fast it charges, how the tax comparison works, and what to check before you order.

What Porsche has announced

  • Deliveries: Porsche delivered 178,532 cars worldwide from January to September 2026, 16% fewer than a year earlier. The Cayenne was its best-selling model line, at 59,586, and 7,002 of those were the new Cayenne Electric, delivered since its market launch in the summer. Porsche also delivered 23,029 electric Macans and 8,699 Taycans. By our arithmetic, about 22% of Porsche's deliveries in the period were fully electric.
  • UK range: three electric SUV versions and three electric Coupé versions for model year 2027. Porsche's UK website lists the Cayenne Electric from £83,200, the Cayenne S Electric from £99,900 and the Cayenne Turbo Electric from £130,900, with the Coupé Electric from £86,200 (manufacturer advertised prices including VAT, checked 30 October 2026).
  • Petrol and plug-in hybrid Cayennes continue: the petrol Cayenne is listed from £78,300 and the Cayenne E-Hybrid from £87,100, so the electric car sits between the two on price.

Range and charging

Porsche Cayenne Electric model year 2027 UK WLTP range (Porsche UK, checked 30 October 2026)
VersionFrom (incl. VAT)WLTP range
Cayenne Electric£83,200350–395 miles
Cayenne S Electric£99,900361–403 miles
Cayenne Turbo Electric£130,900344–384 miles
Cayenne Coupé Electric£86,200362–407 miles

The Cayenne uses an 800-volt system. Porsche quotes up to 390kW at a suitable rapid charger, and up to 400kW in specific conditions, with 10% to 80% in 16 minutes, or 180–201 miles of range added in ten minutes. At home it charges at up to 11kW on AC, with 22kW as an option, and Porsche offers a wireless charging plate as an option. These are best-case figures. Real-world range is lower in cold weather and at sustained motorway speeds: our guide to EV range in winter explains why. Check the range of the exact version and wheel size you are quoted, because the WLTP spread above depends on specification.

Two points matter for business users. The Cayenne Electric can tow up to 3,500kg with the optional Off-Road Package; confirm the approved towing capacity of the exact car. And Porsche guarantees the high-voltage battery for eight years or 100,000 miles, with at least 80% of its capacity for three years or 38,000 miles and at least 70% after that until the guarantee ends.

How each Cayenne is taxed as a company car

To work out company car income tax, multiply the car's P11D value by its Benefit in Kind percentage and then by your income tax rate. Porsche lists the electric Cayenne at 0g/km, the E-Hybrid at 90–101g/km and the petrol Cayenne at 243–266g/km. The E-Hybrid's recorded CO2 alone does not establish its BiK band.

Under HMRC's temporary PHEV easement, a qualifying plug-in hybrid uses a nominal 1g/km figure for company car tax. All four conditions must be met: first registration from 1 January 2025 to 5 April 2028 inclusive; an emissions standard other than Euro 6d-ISC-FCM or Euro 6e; recorded CO2 of at least 51g/km; and at least one mile of electric range. The percentage then depends on electric range and tax year. Porsche quotes an electric range of 48–52 miles for the 2027 E-Hybrid, but check the exact car's registration details and eligibility.

The easement applies through 5 April 2028. For an eligible car made available to an employee by that date, transitional relief can continue until the earlier of a variation or renewal of the arrangement or 5 April 2031. It does not change the CO2 figure used for vehicle tax or other non-employment taxes.

These are HMRC's published rates through 2029/30. The 28 October 2026 Budget announced a further one-percentage-point rise for 2030/31, with legislation to follow; it did not change the years shown here. Our company car tax guide explains the bands and the PHEV easement.

A worked example over four tax years

This is a like-for-like illustration using a hypothetical £90,000 P11D value for each powertrain and a 40% income tax rate. It is not a quote for a particular Cayenne or a claim that the advertised starting prices equal P11D values. The plug-in hybrid case assumes a qualifying car with 40–69 miles of electric range whose easement remains in place throughout the years shown.

Each figure is for a full tax year, with no employee contributions or availability adjustments. A car supplied part-way through a tax year is taxed only for the relevant period, so adding these annual figures is not a quote for a four-year lease starting today. P11D uses the appropriate list price and taxable accessories; vehicle tax and the first registration fee are excluded.

Illustrative annual income tax: £90,000 P11D and a 40% taxpayer
Tax yearElectricQualifying PHEV, 40–69 electric milesPetrol, maximum BiK band
2026/27£1,440£3,600£13,320
2027/28£1,800£3,960£13,320
2028/29£2,520£6,480£13,680
2029/30£3,240£6,840£14,040
Sum of the full-year figures£9,000£20,880£54,360

On this equal-P11D basis, the electric car's income tax is £2,160 lower than the qualifying PHEV in 2026/27, and £11,880 lower when the four full-year figures are added together. The difference depends on the actual cars' P11D values, the driver's tax rate, delivery date and the hybrid's eligibility. At the 2026/27 Class 1A National Insurance rate of 15%, the employer's annual charge in this illustration is £540 for the electric car, £1,350 for the qualifying PHEV and £4,995 for the petrol car.

Running costs beyond company car tax

  • Expensive Car Supplement: every Cayenne is above the price line (£50,000 for an electric car, £40,000 for others), so each pays the supplement for five years from the second time it is taxed: £440 a year in 2026/27. The Budget announced RPI uprating from 1 April 2027, with legislation to follow. Read how the threshold works. On contract hire the funder usually taxes the car and recovers the cost through the rental.
  • Pay-per-mile tax from April 2028: under eVED, electric cars are due to pay 3p a mile and plug-in hybrids 1.5p a mile, on top of vehicle tax. The Budget confirmed the policy, with legislation still to follow: what eVED means on a lease.
  • Charging at home: Qualifying household electricity in Great Britain currently benefits from 0% VAT. The Budget announced an extension to 30 June 2027, with legislation due in early 2027: what that means for home charging.
  • VAT on the rental: a VAT-registered business leasing a car with private use can normally recover 50% of the VAT on the rental.

What to check before you order

  • Which version you need. The advertised starting price of the S Electric is £16,700 higher. Compare the actual P11D values after selecting options, alongside the features you need.
  • Options. Chargeable options can raise the P11D value and the tax.
  • Charging. Check where you will charge day to day, and whether your home or workplace can take an 11kW or 22kW charger.
  • Delivery date. Ask for a confirmed build and delivery date for your specification before you sign.
  • How long you will keep it. Over a three or four-year lease, compare the cars on the rates for every year you will drive them, not just this year.
