Nissan gives drivers several ways to use an electric motor, but they do not all involve an external charger. A Qashqai e-POWER can suit a petrol-refuelling routine; MICRA and LEAF require electricity; ARIYA adds a different cabin and body proposition. Start by describing where the car will replenish energy on normal working days, then assess passenger and luggage needs.
For a company or household, the catalogue is a route into a specific-vehicle discussion. It can contain an earlier LEAF beside the new generation, or several Qashqai and ARIYA specification years. Ask IVF to put the full model year, battery or engine, drivetrain and essential equipment into the proposal. That prevents a familiar name from concealing a different car when comparing term, mileage and maintenance through the funder panel.

| Model line | Body and powertrain | What to confirm |
|---|---|---|
| Juke | Petrol or full-hybrid compact crossover | Try the seating position and powertrain-specific luggage space. |
| Qashqai | Mild hybrid or e-POWER SUV | Confirm the e-POWER generation and actual emissions. |
| X-Trail | Larger SUV; petrol and e-POWER entries | Specify five or seven seats separately from e-4ORCE. |
| MICRA | Electric compact hatchback | Identify the 40 kWh or 52 kWh version and charging needs. |
| LEAF | Electric car spanning generations | Earlier CHAdeMO and newer CCS2 need different journey planning. |
| ARIYA | Electric SUV; different batteries and drivetrains | Confirm onboard AC charging, model year and battery. |
A live catalogue route is not an allocation or delivery promise. Rows marked as legacy or announced keep their stated status; confirm the exact UK car and agreement before commitment.
Juke is the smaller crossover comparison; Qashqai adds another family-body option; X-Trail is the route to investigate when a third row matters. Require seven seats explicitly if that is the brief. e-4ORCE refers to the all-wheel-drive system, so it cannot establish how many people the offered X-Trail can carry. Look at luggage behind the seats you need to keep raised, not a photograph with them folded.
The checked Juke is 4,210 mm long against Qashqai’s 4,425 mm: a 215 mm parking difference. Juke Hybrid has 354 litres of luggage space versus petrol’s 422 litres. The 1.0 DiG-T petrol manual quotes 47.9–48.7 mpg WLTP combined, versus 46.3–47.1 mpg for DCT. Current Qashqai Acenta Premium e-POWER quotes 65.7 mpg and 504 litres with its parcel shelf removed; do not apply those figures to the earlier 190PS system.
X-Trail Acenta Premium e-POWER 2WD five-seat quotes 49.6 mpg and 575 litres. The same-grade five-seat e-4ORCE quotes 45.6 mpg, with braked towing rising from the 2WD’s 670 kg to 1,800 kg. These are exact specification comparisons, not results for every grade or seven-seat car. Check payload and train-weight limits as well as the approved trailer figure.
In e-POWER, the petrol engine generates electricity and an electric motor drives the wheels. You do not connect the car to a charger. Qashqai’s 1.3 DiG-T mild-hybrid entries have a different arrangement, and Juke full hybrid should also be assessed on its own specification. None inherits the zero-emission company-car percentage merely because a motor is involved.
For an electric Nissan, MICRA answers a compact-car brief, LEAF spans two distinct generations and ARIYA offers the SUV comparison. Choose the body and charging system together. ARIYA catalogue labels include 63 kWh and 87 kWh with different drivetrains; MICRA uses 40 kWh and 52 kWh descriptions. Those labels are useful identifiers, but the UK technical document for the proposed car remains the source for usable battery capacity, equipment and performance.
A business comparing Qashqai e-POWER with an electric Nissan should separate practical use from tax. e-POWER avoids an external charging routine, but remains a petrol-emissions assessment. An electric MICRA or LEAF may suit a driver with reliable charging and a suitable route; ARIYA adds a different passenger and luggage proposition rather than simply a larger tax figure.
For directors and employees with private availability, calculate each car’s benefit using its own P11D and the years crossed by the lease. Keep the company’s VAT, hire deductions and energy arrangements alongside that calculation. If drivers share an X-Trail, establish the real pool-car conditions with an adviser rather than assuming shared keys remove a benefit. IVF needs the contracting party, actual driver brief and precise vehicle generation to compare funder options meaningfully.
VAT-registered businesses can normally reclaim 50% of the VAT on qualifying car rentals where private use is available, depending on circumstances and the normal VAT rules. Full rental-VAT recovery requires exclusive business use with no private availability. Maintenance can fall outside the rental block when it is genuinely optional, separately described in the contract and separately quantified on the invoice; recovery remains subject to normal VAT rules. Read HMRC’s motoring VAT guidance.
Businesses using the VAT Flat Rate Scheme do not normally recover input VAT on recurring car hire. The separate capital-goods exception does not turn hire invoices into a vehicle purchase. Check HMRC’s Flat Rate Scheme guidance.
The hire-cost rules normally disallow 15% of otherwise deductible rentals for cars above 50 g/km, subject to their scope and exceptions. A company-car BiK easement does not establish relief from this restriction. Check HMRC’s car-hire deduction rules.
For accounting periods beginning on or after 1 January 2026, revised FRS 102 generally requires a right-of-use asset and lease liability for lessees, including small companies using Section 1A. FRS 105 lease accounting for eligible micro-entities was not changed in the same way. Contract hire therefore does not universally keep a car off the balance sheet. Ask your accountant to apply the right framework; HMRC summarises the accounting standards.
A private MICRA enquiry should consider rear access and luggage as well as compact parking. If the electric car will handle family trips, compare LEAF and ARIYA with the seats positioned for the real occupants. A larger battery may extend flexibility between charging stops, but it cannot change a load opening or create an extra passenger place.
For Juke or Qashqai, try the specific powertrain and grade before assuming that the boot or equipment matches another version. X-Trail buyers should settle third-row use and drivetrain separately, then consider towing only against the exact approved vehicle. PCH does not create the same employee benefit as a company-provided car. Include private mileage, insurance, energy and optional servicing when comparing the agreement, with current vehicle supply and timing confirmed before commitment.
The petrol and hybrid rows are emissions bands, not rates for every version of the model. Confirm the supplied car’s P11D, certified CO2 and applicable tax treatment before ordering. Electric percentages apply to zero-emission cars made available privately as a company benefit. e-POWER cars need their own certified CO2 band; they do not inherit the electric row.
For an employee or director with private use, the taxable benefit normally starts with the car’s P11D value multiplied by the applicable BiK percentage. Personal tax then depends on the individual’s income tax rate and any relevant adjustments. The percentage is not the tax rate applied to the lease rental. A sole trader’s own business car use follows different rules.
The agreement can cross several tax years. Compare the whole path, not just the percentage in the year the car arrives.
| Tax specification | 2026/27 | 2027/28 | 2028/29 | 2029/30 |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Zero-emission electric | 4% | 5% | 7% | 9% |
| Petrol/mild hybrid, 140–144 g/km | 34% | 34% | 35% | 36% |
These are conditional tax bands, not assigned rates for every Nissan. Confirm the supplied car’s P11D, certified CO2, fuel type and registration date. Diesel supplements can apply where the required emissions certification is absent, subject to the annual maximum.
Retained tax illustrations from the 10 September 2026 catalogue snapshot: a full year at 40% income tax, without employee contributions or other adjustments. These are dated examples for different cars, not current quotations, employer costs or a claim of overall savings. Obtain current P11D and certification for your supplied vehicle.
| Recorded derivative | P11D | Recorded tax basis | BiK | Annual tax at 40% |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Qashqai 1.3 DiG-T MH Acenta Premium | £30,020.00 | 142 g/km | 34% | £4,082.72 |
| MICRA 90kW Engage 40kWh | £22,930.00 | Zero-emission electric | 4% | £366.88 |
Use our company-car BiK guide alongside HMRC’s 2026/27 and 2027/28 tables and the published 2028/29 and 2029/30 changes. Tax information checked 27 September 2026 against the C1 ledger and its primary sources. Tax treatment depends on individual circumstances and may change; consult your accountant.
Ask IVF for the exact Nissan vehicle details to take to your accountant.
Vehicle Excise Duty (VED). For 2026/27, the standard annual VED payment after the first year is £200 before any supplement. First-year VED depends on CO2 and registration rules; zero-emission cars currently have a £10 first-year rate. These cash rates apply to 2026/27 only; later annual VED rates are not confirmed here. Ask how the funder treats tax increases during your agreement.
Expensive Car Supplement. The Expensive Car Supplement is currently £440 a year for five years from the second licence. The list-price threshold is more than £40,000 for petrol, diesel and hybrid cars, or more than £50,000 for qualifying zero-emission cars registered from 1 April 2025. Use the published list price before discounts, including relevant options, and check the registration date. Plug-in hybrids do not receive the electric-car threshold. GOV.UK explains VED and the supplement.
Planned eVED. The government plans Electric Vehicle Excise Duty (eVED) from April 2028, alongside VED: 3p per mile for electric cars and 1.5p per mile for plug-in hybrids. This is proposed for April 2028, subject to legislation and implementation; it is not a charge currently in force. The stated rates are planned starting rates, with CPI uprating proposed from 2029/30 and later cash rates not confirmed. An agreement spanning introduction needs the funder’s written treatment of the charge and later changes. Check the government’s consultation response and final implementation guidance before committing.
The retained LEAF entries include 110 kW cars labelled 39 kWh and newer 130 kW/52 kWh or 160 kW/75 kWh cars. Nissan’s earlier UK brochure specifies CHAdeMO rapid charging; its new-generation technical sheet specifies CCS2. That difference can change which public stops are usable. A charging location advertised as rapid does not establish that it has the connector needed by an older LEAF.
ARIYA Advance 87 kWh front-wheel drive quotes 329 miles WLTP, 87 kWh usable capacity and 466 litres of luggage. Nissan gives 20–80% in about 30 minutes using 130 kW DC in the stated conditions; the 63 kWh car uses a different 10–80% window. These are test benchmarks, not journey guarantees.
ARIYA also needs an AC check. Some derivatives explicitly name a 22 kW onboard charger; others should not be assumed to have it. The vehicle’s AC ceiling is distinct from DC rapid charging, and a home or workplace installation must support the relevant supply. Check the complete equipment list and plan stops against the actual battery, model year and wheels. Temperature, speed, load and battery condition affect distance and charging, so do not apply new-generation headlines to every earlier Nissan on the route.
The standard UK passenger-car warranty is three years or 60,000 miles, whichever limit is reached first, subject to the applicable terms. Electric-battery protection is separate and varies by model year. Nissan’s current warranty information distinguishes earlier LEAF battery arrangements from MY22 LEAF, ARIYA, new MICRA and new LEAF, so obtain the document for the actual supplied car.
Nissan advertises up to three additional years of service-activated vehicle cover on eligible all-new MICRA, all-new LEAF and new ARIYA MY26 vehicles when serviced with Nissan. The programme’s mileage ceiling, activation and exclusions still apply. This is not automatic six-year cover for all Nissans or every ARIYA listing. Agree the required servicing and any optional maintenance alongside the quotation, and ask separately about tyres, assistance and the consequences of reaching a mileage limit before the calendar term ends.
Tell IVF your annual mileage, regular passengers, essential equipment, charging access where relevant and preferred timing. Ask for the precise model year, derivative, options and registration status to be written into the quotation. The catalogue is a starting point; the offered vehicle and funder terms need confirmation.
Business Contract Hire is taken by the business; Personal Contract Hire is taken by the private individual. Both are subject to status and individual funder criteria. Compare the initial rental, term, mileage, maintenance and applicable fees on the same basis. An initial rental is part of the hire cost, not refundable security or ownership equity.
A manufacturer warranty starts under the supplied car’s warranty terms, normally from first registration. Its time and mileage limits may finish before your lease does. It is separate from optional servicing and tyre cover. Confirm maintenance inclusions, insurance responsibilities, tax provisions and early-termination terms before signing.
At the end of contract hire, return the vehicle; there is no contractual purchase option. Excess mileage, damage beyond the funder’s fair wear and tear standard, missing equipment or other contractual charges may still be payable. Check the return process before choosing your agreement.
Use business car leasing, personal contract hire, company-car tax guide, VAT on business leasing, request a callback, electric car leasing, Business Contract Hire, Renault Austral, Renault 5, FRC accounting changes, HMRC car-hire deductions, IVF customer feedback on Feefo to narrow your choice or discuss a quotation.
Ready to compare your Nissan options? Send your mileage, required equipment and timing.
No. Its wheels are driven by an electric motor, but a petrol engine generates the electricity and the car refuels with petrol. It is not a plug-in hybrid and does not take the zero-emission company-car percentage of a battery-electric Nissan.
Match body, model year, powertrain, mileage and term, with maintenance on the same basis. In LEAF, identify the generation and connector. In X-Trail, specify the seats. Ask for complete written terms and an actual supply check.
Earlier 39 kWh LEAF uses CHAdeMO in the retained UK brochure; the new 52 kWh and 75 kWh technical sheet specifies CCS2. Check compatible connectors on regular journeys. A newer LEAF charging claim does not describe an older catalogue car.
Do not assume so. Some listed derivatives explicitly identify that onboard equipment. Confirm the offered specification and the electricity supply available where you charge. AC capability is separate from the car’s DC rapid-charging performance.
No. e-4ORCE identifies the drivetrain. Require the fitted passenger count in the quotation and inspect the luggage space with the required rows raised. A five-seat configuration cannot meet a seven-person brief through a drivetrain badge.
The current IVF MICRA entries discussed here are electric, with 40 kWh and 52 kWh labels. Treat them separately from historic petrol MICRAs, and obtain the matching UK year, battery and charging specification for the supplied car.
The checked UK specification gives Hybrid 354 litres and the petrol version 422 litres. Match generation and equipment before applying those figures, then assess the real load. Choosing the hybrid can therefore affect luggage as well as energy use.
Nissan names eligible all-new MICRA, all-new LEAF and new ARIYA MY26 vehicles. Up to three extra years depend on servicing with Nissan and the programme’s mileage and other conditions. It is not a blanket extension for every Nissan.
Yes, subject to status and funder criteria. Include private availability, mileage, passengers and charging access. Your accountant should distinguish petrol e-POWER or mild-hybrid emissions from the zero-emission basis of an electric Nissan across the whole term.
The car is returned under the funder’s conditions with no contractual purchase option. Check excess mileage, damage beyond fair wear and tear, missing equipment and collection arrangements. Keep service records and charging equipment that must accompany an electric car at return.
