Intelligent Vehicle Finance helps businesses choose Nissan Primastar leasing for installation work, longer equipment and teams carrying tools. The current UK range is diesel, with panel and crew configurations requiring separate capacity checks. Match the load-through arrangement, gearbox and Nissan support package to the way your business operates.
Primastar is a medium van for work that needs an organised cargo area without automatically moving to the scale of Interstar. A fitting team may need lengthy materials, several tool cases and clear access to smaller consumables. A mobile repair business may need shelving on one side and a usable aisle on the other. The relevant question is whether the vehicle supports that sequence of jobs throughout the day.
The choice is more specific than short or long wheelbase. A panel van prioritises the working bay; a crew van reserves part of the vehicle for people. The load-through facility can help with suitable narrow items, but it cannot turn the whole cargo compartment into a longer rectangular box. Decide which of those needs is essential before moving on to trim and convenience equipment.
Renault Trafic is the related-platform comparison. Nissan’s warranty, grade specification and support arrangements still need their own assessment. Use Primastar’s UK technical document for its dimensions and weight conventions rather than carrying across a familiar Trafic headline. A shared base is not evidence that every model-year or body combination is identical.
Turn these facts into a vehicle specification.
| Vehicle or configuration | Useful distinction | Check before choosing |
|---|---|---|
| Nissan Primastar | Medium diesel panel or crew body; Nissan support terms | Load-through equipment and driver-inclusive payload |
| Renault Trafic | Related medium-van platform with its own UK specification | Like-for-like generation, gearbox and warranty |
| Nissan Interstar | Larger panel bodies and conversion choices | Finished size, legal weight and site access |
Move to Interstar when a measured height, volume or conversion requirement exceeds Primastar’s layout. Compare Trafic when the medium body is right and the decision is equipment, support and the written agreement.
The UK Primastar material checked on 28 September 2026 describes diesel power. Do not attach an electric specification to Primastar simply because another Nissan van or a related Renault product has one. If zero-emission operation is required, ask IVF to compare a vehicle that is separately documented for that purpose.
The April 2026 brochure describes a nine-speed automatic alongside manual versions, while older catalogue descriptions may refer to earlier transmissions or grades. Obtain a model-year-specific order sheet showing engine output, gearbox, body and equipment. The finance quotation should identify the same vehicle as the technical sheet.
For a shared fleet, test whether drivers need consistent parking aids, camera views, mirror adjustment or seating support. A higher trim designation alone does not explain which tools make manoeuvring easier at your actual sites. Specify essential features individually so a substitution cannot quietly remove them.
The normal floor length is the right starting point for cabinets, crates and boxed equipment. The longer load-through measurements depend on the specified opening and seat position, making them relevant to suitable pipes, conduit or similar narrow items. Check the item’s cross-section and restraint arrangement as well as its length.
Draw the load at its widest point, including handles and protective packing. Then consider the angle needed to get it through the rear or side entrance. A bulky object can fit on a floor plan but still be difficult to load safely. Door aperture, kerb position and the space available behind the parked van all matter to the loading method.
Decide where frequently used equipment will live. If every small job requires moving long materials out of the way, the apparent capacity is not functioning well. A racking layout should preserve access to the next job’s tools and leave secure positions for partially used materials coming back to base. A physical demonstration with representative equipment is useful before committing to a permanent fit-out.
A second row can make Primastar useful for colleagues travelling to the same site, but its occupied layout has to be assessed honestly. Nissan provides separate crew dimensions, with less uninterrupted floor space than the panel body. Do not use the panel-van volume in a quotation brief for a fully occupied crew vehicle.
Make a people-and-equipment schedule for the busiest normal day. Include protective clothing, personal bags, chargers, consumables and the stock that remains in the vehicle overnight. These small items become significant when several people travel together. Heavy tools should have an assigned secure position rather than being placed wherever there happens to be a gap.
Nissan’s payload convention includes the driver. Apply that convention consistently when estimating what remains after occupants and the completed installation. Ask for axle limits where heavy equipment will sit near the rear, and consider the effect of roof racks or trailer noseweight if relevant. Passing an overall weight calculation does not establish that every loading arrangement is suitable.
An automatic may be attractive for repeated urban stops, while another operator may prefer a manual vehicle for its particular fleet requirements. Compare actual drivers and routes rather than assigning a universal efficiency or durability advantage to either transmission. The quotation should hold body, equipment and operating requirements constant when alternatives are considered.
If a trailer is part of the work, obtain the exact braked-trailer limit, gross train weight, axle limits and approved coupling details for the chosen Primastar. The maximum trailer figure alone is not permission to load both vehicle and trailer to their individual maxima simultaneously. Include the driver’s entitlement and the business’s operating obligations in that separate assessment.
Review the longest regular journey as well as the typical local day. A vehicle that spends most of its time visiting nearby customers may still need to cover a distant supplier trip with a heavier return load. Tell IVF about that pattern before specifying annual mileage, so the agreement reflects the working use rather than only the routine appointments.
Primastar’s published five-year commercial-vehicle warranty deserves a careful read alongside the planned contract term and mileage. Manufacturer cover is different from servicing, tyres, insurance or a lease maintenance package. Check when the mileage limit would be reached in your operation and what records the warranty requires.
Nissan describes a commercial-vehicle support network, but the useful test is local: can the workshop accommodate your body, roof equipment and working hours? Ask how planned servicing is arranged and what happens when a vehicle is immobilised. A courtesy vehicle may not replicate a bespoke workshop installation, so the business needs a practical way to move essential tools during downtime.
Obtain funder consent for shelving, signage, electrical accessories and towing equipment before fitting them. Agree who installs and supports the equipment and what must happen at contract end. If the same kit is intended to move into a replacement Primastar, keep its drawings and weights; changes between generations can affect reuse.
A business lease does not automatically mean there is no employee tax. Where qualifying company-van private use is taxable, the 2026/27 standard benefit is £4,170. Employer-provided private fuel can add a £798 fuel benefit. The employee’s actual liability depends on their tax position and any applicable reductions.
HMRC provides conditional exemptions for business travel, qualifying restricted private use and pool vans. Record the real arrangement with the driver and have payroll or the accountant assess it. A sole trader using their own business van is a different case from a company making a van available to an employee.
For a term extending through 2027/28, 2028/29 and 2029/30, allow for future rules and cash upratings rather than assuming today’s figures remain unchanged. The current nil zero-emission van benefit does not apply to a diesel Primastar. Checked 28 September 2026; tax depends on circumstances and can change. Read HMRC’s current benefit figures and exemption conditions.
VED for the supplied vehicle. GOV.UK sets TC39 at £360 for a single 12-month payment in 2026/27 for light goods vehicles registered from 1 March 2001 and up to 3,500 kg revenue weight. Check the actual Primastar registration and contract treatment of later increases. View the tax-class table.
Expensive Car Supplement. A qualifying light-goods Primastar is not assigned the passenger-car supplement simply because options raise its value. A crew description should still be matched to the supplied vehicle’s legal and tax classification.
eVED scope. Vans are excluded at the planned April 2028 introduction under the July 2026 Treasury response. Diesel Primastar is not an electric-car mileage-tax proposition. Future policy and any applicable charges should be reviewed across the agreement. Check the published response.
Primastar rental VAT depends on the business’s VAT registration, taxable use, any private or exempt use and the relevant scheme. Do not assume a universal recovery percentage. Give the accountant the actual agreement and intended use, and distinguish optional maintenance where it is separately contracted and invoiced.
Contract hire also has accounting consequences. Revised FRS 102 generally recognises lessee right-of-use assets and liabilities for periods beginning on or after 1 January 2026; eligible FRS 105 businesses follow a different framework. Ask about deductions and any capital-allowance question separately, rather than using employee benefit guidance as the authority. IVF’s VAT explanation and HMRC’s lease-accounting summary support that discussion.
Discuss the vehicle and agreement with IVF; check tax with your accountant.
Tell IVF your annual mileage, regular passengers, essential equipment, charging access where relevant and preferred timing. Ask for the precise model year, derivative, options and registration status to be written into the quotation. The catalogue is a starting point; the offered vehicle and funder terms need confirmation.
Business Contract Hire is taken by the business; Personal Contract Hire is taken by the private individual. Both are subject to status and individual funder criteria. Compare the initial rental, term, mileage, maintenance and applicable fees on the same basis. An initial rental is part of the hire cost, not refundable security or ownership equity.
A manufacturer warranty starts under the supplied vehicle’s warranty terms, normally from first registration. Its time and mileage limits may finish before your lease does. It is separate from optional servicing and tyre cover. Confirm maintenance inclusions, insurance responsibilities, tax provisions and early-termination terms before signing.
At the end of contract hire, return the vehicle; there is no contractual purchase option. Excess mileage, damage beyond the funder’s fair wear and tear standard, missing equipment or other contractual charges may still be payable. Check the return process before choosing your agreement.

The current UK sources checked on 28 September 2026 describe diesel Primastar. An electric option on another Nissan or a related Renault does not establish an electric Primastar specification. Ask IVF for a separately verified electric alternative if that is essential.
They share a medium-van platform relationship, but the UK vehicles have their own specifications and support terms. Use Nissan’s technical figures for Primastar and compare an equivalent Trafic body, generation and transmission.
It can accommodate appropriate long, narrow items using the specified opening and seat arrangement. It does not extend the full width and height of the cargo bay. Check the actual opening, item cross-section and secure loading method.
Use the largest regular item, the required storage layout and the space available at customer sites. L2H1 extends the normal floor area, but the extra length needs to solve a working constraint rather than simply provide unused space.
The crew body has its own dimensions and weight allowance. Occupied rear seats and the partition reduce cargo space, while people and bags consume payload. Build the assessment around the crew travelling on the busiest normal day.
The April 2026 Nissan UK brochure describes a nine-speed automatic on relevant derivatives. Older descriptions may differ. Confirm the gearbox against the exact model year and engine in the quotation, rather than relying on the family name.
Nissan’s published payload includes the driver. Account for actual occupants, factory options, racking, roof equipment and the working load using the correct convention, then check axle limits. Request the completed vehicle’s weight information where it is converted.
Confirm the derivative’s towing approval and funder permission before installation. Check the coupling, trailer noseweight, axle and train limits and the driver’s entitlement together. A headline trailer limit is not a complete operating assessment.
No. Manufacturer defect cover and a maintenance agreement address different responsibilities. Review mileage limits, servicing conditions and exclusions, then establish which scheduled work and wear items the lease package includes.
Consider it when the normal cargo needs more height or volume, or when the job calls for a specialist body. Compare the completed vehicle’s size and weight against the sites it serves, rather than moving up solely for a larger headline capacity.
