Your Renault Trafic leasing decision

Intelligent Vehicle Finance helps businesses specify Renault Trafic leasing around long tools, working payload and crew needs. Compare the actual panel or crew body, understand the load-through measurements and choose the gearbox for the route. Keep current diesel specifications separate from the announced next-generation Trafic E-Tech electric.

Renault Trafic business leasing: where it fits

Trafic sits between compact Kangoo and large Master, with a practical role for installation teams, trades and businesses that carry long equipment without needing a large-van shell. The useful question is how the load enters, sits and comes out again. A headline cubic capacity does not explain whether pipes, cases and colleagues can travel together in the way the business needs.

Its load-through arrangement is particularly relevant to narrow, lengthy items. That feature should be assessed as part of the actual partition and seating configuration, not confused with a full-width bay of the same quoted length. If a load is tall or boxed, normal floor length and the door aperture may matter more than the longest published dimension.

Trafic also needs a clear generation distinction. The diesel vans described by the current UK brochure and IVF catalogue are one selection task. Renault’s announced new Trafic E-Tech electric is a separate forthcoming product proposition, with its own technical and supply checks. Do not attach those new electric claims to an existing diesel catalogue card.

Renault Trafic leasing: key facts

  • July 2026 UK Trafic L1H1 panel benchmark: 2,537 mm normal floor length and 3,750 mm quoted length using the specified load-through arrangement.
  • L2H1 panel benchmark: 2,937 mm floor length, extending to 4,150 mm for suitable items through the specified opening.
  • The same UK table publishes 5.8 m³ for L1H1 and 7.8 m³ for L2H1. Treat these as the manufacturer’s stated measurement basis, not a rectangular box calculation.
  • L1H1 maximum payload is listed as 1,222 kg; L2H1 as 1,103-1,145 kg in the July 2026 table. Exact derivative and fitted equipment determine the working allowance.
  • The brochure’s crew configuration has a separate 4.0 m³ cargo benchmark and 881-1,013 kg payload range; panel figures cannot be transferred.
  • IVF’s observed diesel descriptions include SL, LL, SH and LH body labels and manual or EAG9 references. Match each quotation to its own technical sheet.

These are practical alternatives, not a ranking or a like-for-like specification claim. Compare the actual quoted body, equipment, permitted weights and agreement.

Decode length, roof and gearbox before comparing trim

The observed IVF catalogue contains SL30 and LL30 diesel descriptions, dCi 130 and 150 references, and Advance Safety, Extra or Extra Sport names. Some entries use EAG9 automatic wording. SH30 and LH30 high-roof descriptions also appear. Shortened search titles are a starting point for an enquiry, not enough information to specify the vehicle.

The July 2026 UK brochure’s dimension table covers named L1H1 and L2H1 panel bodies and a crew configuration. It does not establish the dimensions of every high-roof entry present in the IVF data. If a roof-height requirement matters, obtain the technical drawing for that exact quoted body and check it against the catalogue label.

Use load-through length for the right kind of item

The L1H1 panel van’s normal floor loading length is 2,537 mm in Renault’s July 2026 UK document. The stated load-through figure is 3,750 mm. For L2H1, the equivalent dimensions are 2,937 mm and 4,150 mm. The additional reach is useful for items that fit the opening and can be carried with the intended seat and partition arrangement.

A tall cabinet cannot occupy a narrow extension simply because its longest dimension falls below the maximum length. Measure the cross-section, the loading angle and the available securing points. Check whether the feature changes use of the front passenger space and whether it is actually fitted to the offered trim. The working arrangement must remain suitable for the people travelling in the cab.

Renault’s same table states 5.8 m³ for L1H1 and 7.8 m³ for L2H1. Keep that manufacturer measurement basis separate from a simple length-times-width-times-height estimate. Where an item is close to the limit, use a body drawing or a physical loading trial rather than relying on the cubic number. Lining and storage installations should be included in the trial.

Crew space and cargo weight compete for capacity

A crew Trafic can solve a team-transport requirement, but the second row and partition change the loading area. The July 2026 UK brochure gives its crew configuration a separate 4.0 m³ volume benchmark. Establish the seating needed every day before deciding whether tools and materials can still be carried safely behind the people.

The same source lists a 1,222 kg maximum for L1H1 panel models and a 1,103-1,145 kg range for L2H1, while crew payload is shown as 881-1,013 kg. These are brochure figures across the stated configurations. Request the quoted vehicle’s own weights and driver convention before subtracting the actual crew, racking and equipment.

Roof-carried equipment needs attention too. A ladder system adds permanent weight and raises the working vehicle’s height, even when the rear bay is lightly loaded. Check the approved roof limit, restraint method and overall clearance after fitting. Include fuel, frequently replenished materials and any trailer noseweight in the completed operating assessment where applicable.

Keep new Trafic E-Tech separate from today’s diesel brief

Renault UK presents a new Trafic E-Tech electric, checked 28 September 2026. It is a different generation from the diesel specifications used on this page. Manufacturer announcements, target performance and a place in a future range do not establish a matching vehicle in the current IVF catalogue, an order acceptance or a delivery date.

The current diesel enquiry can therefore proceed on its own evidence: body, engine, gearbox, equipment and contract. If electric operation is essential, ask IVF to identify the exact electric product, UK specification and supply position before comparing it with that diesel quotation. Do not reuse a charging or range headline from the announced model for another Trafic bearing the same family name.

For the new electric vehicle, battery specification and final UK derivative mapping remain checks to complete before a technical recommendation. This page does not invent a battery capacity or apply an unconfirmed range promise. Consider the working route, required reserve, parking arrangements and charger access now, while keeping final vehicle performance conditional on the supplied specification.

Trafic, Kangoo or Master: identify the constraint

Kangoo is worth checking where Trafic would mainly carry a few service cases. Master becomes relevant when the regular equipment demands more height, length or a specialist body. Make the comparison around the specific item, occupied seating or fit-out that drives the decision. Choosing the middle size by habit can be as unhelpful as choosing the largest available.

Confirm Renault service access, maintenance inclusions and responsibility for the fit-out before agreeing the lease. Obtain funder consent for alterations, keep records of the installation and agree return requirements. The business should know whether equipment will be transferred to the next van or left with the vehicle, because removal can affect both cost and condition.

Renault Trafic van tax: 2026/27 and the years ahead

A Trafic carrying colleagues and tools needs a clear private-use policy as well as a seating plan. Crew seating alone does not establish the HMRC result; check the supplied vehicle and its use with your accountant.

A taxable van provided in 2026/27 has a standard benefit value of £4,170. The fuel-benefit value is £798 when the conditions for that charge are met. A qualifying electric van has a nil van benefit, expressed by HMRC as 0% of £4,170. Check GOV.UK’s company-van benefit values.

Check HMRC’s restricted-use and pool-van conditions before assuming a benefit charge is due or exempt. Taking the Trafic home for the next morning’s job and allowing unrestricted weekend use are different arrangements. Read the van exemption conditions.

For agreements covering 2027/28, 2028/29 and 2029/30, review the van cash charges and law each tax year. The company-car percentage path is not a substitute for that van-specific review. Tax checked 28 September 2026. Treatment depends on circumstances and can change; obtain advice from your accountant.

Road tax and costs across the term

Vehicle Excise Duty (VED). A qualifying Trafic in light goods class TC39 has a £360 single annual VED payment in 2026/27. The category covers vehicles registered from 1 March 2001, up to 3,500 kg revenue weight, including zero-emission vans. Check the GOV.UK light-goods table. Confirm the funder’s treatment of VED and later increases.

Expensive Car Supplement. A qualifying light-goods Trafic does not enter the car Expensive Car Supplement regime simply through its price. Check the registered vehicle, particularly if seating or body alterations affect its classification. Check GOV.UK’s vehicle-tax categories. Checked 28 September 2026.

Planned eVED. The government’s July 2026 eVED response excludes vans, buses, coaches and HGVs at the planned April 2028 launch. A future qualifying electric Trafic must not be assigned the electric-car mileage charge on that basis. Read the government’s eVED response. Checked 28 September 2026; future policy can change.

VAT and the business accounts

VAT recovery on Trafic hire must be assessed against the business’s taxable activity and actual use. The van rules do not simply copy the private-use rental VAT restriction used for cars; nor do they promise universal full recovery. IVF’s van and car VAT guide and HMRC’s motoring VAT guidance explain the starting points.

Trafic hiring and ownership have different accounting and capital-allowance questions. Refer the actual agreement to the accountant. Revised FRS 102 generally requires a lessee to recognise right-of-use assets and lease liabilities for periods beginning from 1 January 2026; FRS 105 was not changed on the same basis. Read HMRC’s accounting-standard summary. Checked 28 September 2026.

Talk through the vehicle and agreement with IVF, then confirm your tax treatment with your accountant.

Build the quotation around the way you will use it

Tell IVF your annual mileage, crew, loads, towing, fitted equipment, charging access where relevant and preferred timing. Ask for the precise model year, derivative, options and registration status to be written into the quotation. The catalogue is a starting point; the offered vehicle and funder terms need confirmation.

Business Contract Hire is taken by the business; Personal Contract Hire is taken by the private individual. Both are subject to status and individual funder criteria. Compare the initial rental, term, mileage, maintenance and applicable fees on the same basis. An initial rental is part of the hire cost, not refundable security or ownership equity.

A manufacturer warranty starts under the supplied vehicle’s warranty terms, normally from first registration. Its time and mileage limits may finish before your lease does. It is separate from optional servicing and tyre cover. Confirm maintenance inclusions, insurance responsibilities, tax provisions and early-termination terms before signing.

At the end of contract hire, return the vehicle; there is no contractual purchase option. Excess mileage, damage beyond the funder’s fair wear and tear standard, missing equipment or other contractual charges may still be payable. Check the return process before choosing your agreement.

Renault Trafic leasing questions

How long is the Trafic L2 load bay?

The July 2026 UK L2H1 panel table gives 2,937 mm normal floor length and 4,150 mm with its specified load-through arrangement. The extra length is for suitable items that fit the opening; it is not a full-height extension of the whole bay.

Does every Trafic have the same load-through feature?

No specification should be assumed from the family name alone. Check the exact trim, bulkhead, seating and opening on the offered vehicle. Confirm that the item can be secured and that the intended passenger arrangement remains usable.

What payload should I use for a Trafic quotation?

Use the exact derivative’s permitted weights and equipment-adjusted mass. The July 2026 brochure’s L1H1 maximum of 1,222 kg and L2H1 range of 1,103-1,145 kg are scoped benchmarks, not a remaining-cargo promise after racking and people.

Can I choose a high-roof Trafic?

High-roof SH and LH descriptions appear in IVF’s observed catalogue. Their technical mapping and current supply need confirmation. The L1H1 and L2H1 dimensions on this page must not be applied to a high-roof vehicle without its own drawing.

Is a crew Trafic the same cargo space as a panel van?

No. The seats and partition change the usable rear area. The cited UK crew configuration has a separate 4.0 m³ benchmark. Assess tools, materials and payload with the intended crew aboard and all seats in their normal positions.

Is an automatic Trafic listed?

The observed catalogue includes EAG9 automatic descriptions on particular diesel versions. Ask IVF to confirm the actual engine, body, trim and gearbox combination. A catalogue entry is not evidence of a vehicle allocation or guaranteed availability.

Is the new Trafic E-Tech the same as the current diesel van?

No. Renault UK presents a new electric generation separately. Its announced specification should not be assigned to current diesel catalogue entries. Confirm the exact UK electric vehicle, final data and supply position before comparing agreements.

Why is there no electric range promise here?

The new Trafic E-Tech needs its own final UK derivative and battery verification. This page keeps that evidence gap visible instead of attaching a promotional target to an unspecified vehicle. Any electric decision also needs a realistic loaded-route and charging assessment.

Should I move from Trafic to Master?

Identify the equipment, height or completed-body requirement that Trafic cannot meet. Compare the exact Master body and weight class, including operating obligations for heavier versions. A larger volume is useful only if it solves the actual job.

What should a Trafic business lease brief include?

State panel or crew seating, body and roof, regular load, essential features, gearbox, mileage and term. Include the maintenance and initial-rental basis and any fit-out plan. IVF can then compare the vehicle and agreement on a consistent brief.
