Intelligent Vehicle Finance helps directors and private drivers assess Omoda 9 leasing as a large plug-in hybrid SUV. The current UK MY26 range offers Noble and Black Noble with all-wheel drive. Its purpose is regular charged driving with petrol flexibility, so test passenger comfort, charging access and the full tax path.
The Omoda 9 is a different decision from choosing the smaller Jaecoo 7 simply because the brands are related. Start here when a large SUV, passenger comfort and a substantial plug-in battery are central to your working week. A director combining local travel with occasional long-distance appointments may value that arrangement, provided the car can be charged regularly rather than driven indefinitely as a petrol-only SUV.
Try the rear seats and normal luggage, then check the car against your driveway and workplace bay. Comfort features are useful only if passenger access and everyday parking work.
This is a plug-in hybrid proposition with petrol flexibility, not an electric car with a universal zero-emission tax rate. It may be unsuitable if you cannot arrange charging and the main attraction is a low published CO2 number. In that situation, compare a non-plug-in hybrid or reassess the route to full electric driving. The powertrain should match behaviour before its tax treatment is considered.
| Model | Decision it answers | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Omoda 9 | Large comfort-led plug-in hybrid with all-wheel drive | Verify MY26 Noble or Black Noble and a sustainable charging routine |
| Jaecoo 7 | Smaller SUV with petrol, full-hybrid and plug-in choices | Pick the correct SHS-H or SHS-P system before discussing tax |
| MG HS | Alternative SUV route when comparing plug-in family travel | Confirm generation, powertrain and charging specification |
The Omoda decision centres on space and regular electric use; the alternatives test whether a different size or powertrain would fit more naturally.
IVF’s current route lists 1.5T SHS-P Noble 5dr 3DHT and 1.5T SHS-P Black Noble 5dr 3DHT. Omoda’s current UK MY26 release confirms both grade names and the plug-in hybrid powertrain. Ask IVF to state that model year, grade and the exact included specification. A similar badge on an earlier vehicle does not settle equipment or certified figures.
The model-year distinction matters particularly for electric range. Older launch material quoted 93 miles, whereas the current MY26 release quotes up to 90 miles of electric driving. Use the MY26 figure only as a benchmark for the matching supplied specification, with the final certified data checked. Weather, speed, cabin heating, battery condition and load affect how much of a real journey can be covered electrically.
Black Noble is a specification and appearance decision, not an assumption of a different fundamental tax treatment. Compare the exact equipment and list-price implications rather than inferring extra performance from the name. The MY26 material describes updates to comfort and seating features; if one is essential, have it recorded in the quotation. Do not rely on a photograph of another-market car or an older review to establish it.
The UK MY26 source describes a 34.46 kWh battery alongside the petrol engine. The value of that arrangement depends on using the plug-in capability. Map your normal daily route, where the car stands overnight and whether the workplace space remains available when you need it. A theoretical charge point at an office you rarely visit does not establish a repeatable routine.
For longer trips, petrol can extend the journey beyond the battery’s electric operation. That is different from promising a particular distance on one charge or one tank. Evaluate fuel use when the battery is depleted as well as the charged commute. Assess each operating condition separately.
If public charging is part of the plan, confirm the supplied car’s charging capability and use sites where stopping is practical. Look at the whole interruption, including access, payment and time to connect. Compare the expense and convenience of a public top-up with your actual journey needs. A plug-in hybrid should be selected around how often it will be charged, not just the possibility that it could be.
All-wheel drive is relevant to traction, but not proof of suitability for every rural road or towing task. Obtain the exact car’s approved limits if you need a trailer. Select tyres and driving practice for the conditions.
Try the seat adjustment, heating, ventilation, phone connection and parking views. The MY26 source describes front massage seats; verify them on the offered vehicle. A longer drive will show whether the seating and controls suit you.
The UK warranty headline is seven years or 100,000 miles for the car and eight years or 100,000 miles for the battery, subject to the applicable terms. Obtain the booklet, identify the service location and compare mileage limits with the planned use. Separate that cover from maintenance, wear items, insurance and assistance. There is no need to assume a future resale outcome to make a clear contract-hire decision.
The current MY26 release gives CO2 from 38 g/km and an electric-driving benchmark in the 70-129-mile category, consistent with a conditional 7% band in 2026/27 when the certified vehicle qualifies. That is not the zero-emission rate. The major decision is the rise to 18% in 2028/29 and 19% in 2029/30 for qualifying 1-50 g/km cars: assess the whole term, not just its first year.
For an Omoda 9 assigned to a director with private availability, start with its P11D value and the certified plug-in band. Apply that percentage to find the taxable benefit, then the driver’s income-tax rate and applicable adjustments. A rising percentage can outweigh the expectation formed from the first year. Sole traders should discuss their separate business-use treatment with an accountant.
| Tax specification | 2026/27 | 2027/28 | 2028/29 | 2029/30 |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Qualifying PHEV: certified 1-50 g/km, 70-129 electric miles | 7% | 8% | 18% | 19% |
These are conditional tax bands, not assigned rates for every Omoda 9. Confirm the supplied car’s P11D, certified CO2, fuel type and registration date. Diesel supplements can apply where the required emissions certification is absent, subject to the annual maximum.
The electric-mile figures above are HMRC band thresholds, not promises of this car’s driving range. Newer plug-in hybrid certification can show more than 50 g/km. A temporary company-car easement may treat an eligible car as 1 g/km where the registration date, electric range and Euro-status conditions are met; it is not automatic and must not be transferred to lease-rental deductions. Check the vehicle documents and HMRC’s plug-in hybrid conditions with your accountant.
Use our company-car BiK guide alongside HMRC’s 2026/27 and 2027/28 tables and the published 2028/29 and 2029/30 changes. Tax information checked 27 September 2026 against the C1 ledger and its primary sources. Tax treatment depends on individual circumstances and may change; consult your accountant.
Vehicle Excise Duty (VED). For 2026/27, the standard annual VED payment after the first year is £200 before any supplement. First-year VED depends on CO2 and registration rules; zero-emission cars currently have a £10 first-year rate. These cash rates apply to 2026/27 only; later annual VED rates are not confirmed here. Ask how the funder treats tax increases during your agreement.
Expensive Car Supplement. The Expensive Car Supplement is currently £440 a year for five years from the second licence. The list-price threshold is more than £40,000 for petrol, diesel and hybrid cars, or more than £50,000 for qualifying zero-emission cars registered from 1 April 2025. Use the published list price before discounts, including relevant options, and check the registration date. Plug-in hybrids do not receive the electric-car threshold. GOV.UK explains VED and the supplement.
Planned eVED. The government plans Electric Vehicle Excise Duty (eVED) from April 2028, alongside VED: 3p per mile for electric cars and 1.5p per mile for plug-in hybrids. This is proposed for April 2028, subject to legislation and implementation; it is not a charge currently in force. The stated rates are planned starting rates, with CPI uprating proposed from 2029/30 and later cash rates not confirmed. An agreement spanning introduction needs the funder’s written treatment of the charge and later changes. Check the government’s consultation response and final implementation guidance before committing.
VAT-registered businesses can normally reclaim 50% of the VAT on qualifying car rentals where private use is available, depending on circumstances and the normal VAT rules. Full rental-VAT recovery requires exclusive business use with no private availability. Maintenance can fall outside the rental block when it is genuinely optional, separately described in the contract and separately quantified on the invoice; recovery remains subject to normal VAT rules. Read HMRC’s motoring VAT guidance.
Businesses using the VAT Flat Rate Scheme do not normally recover input VAT on recurring car hire. The separate capital-goods exception does not turn hire invoices into a vehicle purchase. Check HMRC’s Flat Rate Scheme guidance.
The hire-cost rules normally disallow 15% of otherwise deductible rentals for cars above 50 g/km, subject to their scope and exceptions. A company-car BiK easement does not establish relief from this restriction. Check HMRC’s car-hire deduction rules.
For accounting periods beginning on or after 1 January 2026, revised FRS 102 generally requires a right-of-use asset and lease liability for lessees, including small companies using Section 1A. FRS 105 lease accounting for eligible micro-entities was not changed in the same way. Contract hire therefore does not universally keep a car off the balance sheet. Ask your accountant to apply the right framework; HMRC summarises the accounting standards.
Tell IVF your annual mileage, regular passengers, essential equipment, charging access where relevant and preferred timing. Ask for the precise model year, derivative, options and registration status to be written into the quotation. The catalogue is a starting point; the offered vehicle and funder terms need confirmation.
Business Contract Hire is taken by the business; Personal Contract Hire is taken by the private individual. Both are subject to status and individual funder criteria. Compare the initial rental, term, mileage, maintenance and applicable fees on the same basis. An initial rental is part of the hire cost, not refundable security or ownership equity.
A manufacturer warranty starts under the supplied car’s warranty terms, normally from first registration. Its time and mileage limits may finish before your lease does. It is separate from optional servicing and tyre cover. Confirm maintenance inclusions, insurance responsibilities, tax provisions and early-termination terms before signing.
At the end of contract hire, return the vehicle; there is no contractual purchase option. Excess mileage, damage beyond the funder’s fair wear and tear standard, missing equipment or other contractual charges may still be payable. Check the return process before choosing your agreement.

Yes. The current UK MY26 Omoda 9 uses a 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine and a 34.46 kWh plug-in battery with all-wheel drive. Plan regular external charging if you want electric operation to cover a meaningful part of everyday travel.
The September catalogue shows SHS-P Noble and SHS-P Black Noble, both described as five-door 3DHT versions. Confirm the MY26 specification and included equipment with IVF. The presence of either row does not establish an allocated car or a delivery date.
The current UK MY26 release quotes up to 90 miles of electric driving; earlier launch material quoted 93 miles. Use the figure for the exact supplied specification. Both are comparison benchmarks, with real distance affected by conditions, speed, heating and load.
Discuss your vehicle and mileage brief with IVF, subject to confirmed supply, status and funder criteria. Its plug-in hybrid tax band depends on certified CO2 and electric range. A company-car calculation must also include the later years of the lease.
Omoda 9 serves a larger, comfort-led plug-in hybrid brief with all-wheel drive. Jaecoo 7 offers several powertrain choices, including non-plug-in versions. Compare space, charging behaviour and the exact derivative rather than treating the sister brands as interchangeable.
There is no universal schedule, but regular charging is central to choosing a plug-in hybrid for electric daily travel. Build the routine around your mileage and parking. Assess petrol use on journeys that start with a depleted battery as well.
No. Use the actual car’s certified CO2, qualifying electric range and P11D value. Grade and options can affect the calculation, but a name alone cannot determine the percentage. Confirm all those details before comparing tax outcomes.
The MY26 release states seven years/100,000 miles for the vehicle and eight years/100,000 miles for the battery, whichever limit comes first. Terms, exclusions and servicing requirements apply. Obtain the documents for the supplied car and check high-mileage use.
Check its published list price with relevant options and registration position. Plug-in hybrids use the threshold above £40,000, not the higher qualifying zero-emission threshold. The main body explains the current supplement and how it can overlap a lease term.
Specify Noble or Black Noble, model year, required comfort equipment, annual mileage and charging access. Keep term, initial rental and maintenance consistent. Ask how road-tax changes and any future eVED charge would be handled under the agreement.
