Your Renault Clio leasing decision

Intelligent Vehicle Finance helps business and private drivers compare Renault Clio petrol and full-hybrid contract hire. The current UK car uses TCe 90 or E-Tech 145; Renault says the next Clio arrives in 2027. Match today’s listed vehicle, gearbox and equipment before applying specifications from the forthcoming generation.

Clio business and personal leasing: identify which car you mean

Clio remains a specific five-seat hatchback decision for a driver balancing commuting, business visits and everyday passenger use. It becomes confusing when photographs and specifications for the next generation are mixed with cars currently quoted. Start by confirming the vehicle you can actually consider, then decide between the petrol manual and full-hybrid automatic brief.

For a company car, the exact emissions and taxable value matter alongside the driving experience. For personal contract hire, examine the whole agreement and how the car fits the household. A new-generation announcement may affect your timing preference, but it does not create a current supply promise. Tell IVF whether you need a vehicle now or are prepared to discuss a later model once its UK availability is established.

Renault Clio leasing: key facts

  • Renault’s current UK Clio page lists TCe 90 petrol and full hybrid E-Tech 145.
  • The current Clio is a five-seat hatchback; the hybrid does not need external charging.
  • Renault’s new-generation page states a UK launch in 2027, with TCe 115 and full hybrid E-Tech 160 references.
  • IVF’s captured grid covers TCe 90 and E-Tech 145 entries, not a confirmed offer for the forthcoming generation.
  • Renault’s car warranty is three years, with unlimited mileage in the first 24 months and a 60,000-mile limit thereafter for these non-electric cars, subject to terms.
  • GOV.UK: the maximum company-car BiK band is 37% in 2026/27 and 39% in 2029/30; the exact car can fall in a lower band.

Today’s TCe 90 and E-Tech 145, with the next Clio kept separate

Renault’s current UK page checked on 28 September 2026 describes TCe 90 petrol and full hybrid E-Tech 145. The IVF grid contains those powertrains across several trim and edition names. Renault separately states that the next Clio arrives in the UK in 2027, presenting TCe 115 and E-Tech 160 information for that forthcoming car.

Do not apply the next generation’s screens, dimensions, power output or provisional emissions to today’s TCe 90 or E-Tech 145 quotation. A model-year label alone can also be misleading: a current-generation car may carry a later model-year designation without becoming the new body generation. Require the actual derivative and equipment list, with a clear sourcing and timing statement from IVF.

Petrol manual or full-hybrid automatic?

The TCe 90 provides the current petrol-manual route. Full hybrid E-Tech 145 combines a petrol engine with electrical assistance and an automatic transmission, without needing a charging socket. That gives drivers without charging access a hybrid option to assess, but it does not turn the car into an electric vehicle or remove its need for petrol.

A worthwhile test drive includes slow manoeuvres, joining a faster road and the stop-start traffic you normally encounter. Evaluate the hybrid’s response and engine operation rather than assuming every automatic feels alike. A driver who prefers a manual should test the TCe on the gradients and roads used regularly. Choose the system that suits the working week before comparing decorative trim details.

Current trim names and older grid records need reconciliation

The manufacturer’s current UK presentation includes Generation, Techno Esprit Alpine and Iconic Esprit Alpine. IVF’s grid also contains Techno+, Evolution, Techno and earlier Esprit Alpine descriptions. These entries should be read as a mixture of specifications, not a promise that the newest equipment is fitted to every car carrying a familiar name.

List any must-have equipment such as parking cameras, heated controls, navigation or a particular seat finish. Ask which items the exact offer includes. If the proposed car is already registered, obtain its warranty start date and confirm the manufacturer specification applicable at build. A refreshed brochure should inform a comparison, but it cannot amend an earlier vehicle’s factory equipment.

Boot and rear-seat checks should use the chosen powertrain

Test Clio’s load space with the objects that travel together: business bags, a pushchair or weekend luggage. Do this with the passenger seats in their normal positions. A seats-folded maximum does not answer whether the same bags fit while carrying the whole household, and different powertrains can have different packaging.

Published luggage figures also depend on how volume is measured. Rather than combining a headline figure from one page with a different derivative, inspect the actual boot floor and usable opening. Check rear-door access and child-seat installation using the relevant instructions. If regular adult passengers find the cabin restrictive, a different model is a more useful next step than assuming a higher trim creates additional space.

Compare Captur and Renault 5 for different needs

Captur is a useful route if you want to investigate a different seating position or passenger-and-luggage layout. Renault 5 is the electric alternative to discuss when charging is practical and an electric car is the actual objective. Neither is simply a different trim of Clio, so compare powertrain, access and carrying requirements independently.

Keep your non-negotiable journey conditions visible. If charging is unavailable, the Renault 5 discussion needs to resolve that constraint before progressing. If Clio already fits the regular passenger load, explain what a different body style would add. Comparing against a real weekly task produces a clearer decision than moving between models because a newer photograph or badge attracts attention.

Warranty and timing across a changing range

Renault’s standard warranty for these cars runs for up to three years, with unlimited mileage during the first 24 months and a total 60,000-mile limit thereafter. Confirm the precise terms and first-registration date. A later delivery does not restart the warranty of a vehicle registered earlier, and an optional maintenance plan is a separate arrangement.

If you are considering waiting for the next Clio, distinguish an expression of interest from a vehicle order with agreed terms. Current announcements do not establish IVF allocation or a delivery date. If you need a car sooner, assess a current TCe 90 or E-Tech 145 on its own specification and confirm its supply position before committing to an agreement.

Renault Clio company-car tax across the lease

Clio E-Tech 145 and TCe 90 need their own certified CO2 and taxable values. Do not apply provisional next-generation data to either current car. The following conditional examples illustrate bands relevant to the captured listings; the final calculation depends on the supplied vehicle and private-use circumstances.

A Clio company-car calculation begins with its taxable list value and the percentage for its certified emissions. The driver then pays income tax according to personal circumstances. The current hybrid’s lower emissions should be assessed from its own documents, not a forthcoming model’s targets.

Where a quotation uses an earlier trim, check the taxable value of that specification. A fresh brochure does not change the P11D of a different car. Sole traders should obtain advice appropriate to their own business-use position.

These are conditional tax bands, not assigned rates for every Renault Clio. Confirm the supplied car’s P11D, certified CO2, fuel type and registration date. Diesel supplements can apply where the required emissions certification is absent, subject to the annual maximum.

Use our company-car BiK guide alongside HMRC’s 2026/27 and 2027/28 tables and the published 2028/29 and 2029/30 changes. Tax information checked 28 September 2026 against the C1 ledger and its primary sources. Tax treatment depends on individual circumstances and may change; consult your accountant.

Road tax and costs across the term

Vehicle Excise Duty (VED). For 2026/27, the standard annual VED payment after the first year is £200 before any supplement. First-year VED depends on CO2 and registration rules; zero-emission cars currently have a £10 first-year rate. These cash rates apply to 2026/27 only; later annual VED rates are not confirmed here. Ask how the funder treats tax increases during your agreement.

Expensive Car Supplement. The Expensive Car Supplement is currently £440 a year for five years from the second licence. The list-price threshold is more than £40,000 for petrol, diesel and hybrid cars, or more than £50,000 for qualifying zero-emission cars registered from 1 April 2025. Use the published list price before discounts, including relevant options, and check the registration date. Plug-in hybrids do not receive the electric-car threshold. GOV.UK explains VED and the supplement.

Planned eVED. The government plans Electric Vehicle Excise Duty (eVED) from April 2028, alongside VED: 3p per mile for electric cars and 1.5p per mile for plug-in hybrids. This is proposed for April 2028, subject to legislation and implementation; it is not a charge currently in force. The stated rates are planned starting rates, with CPI uprating proposed from 2029/30 and later cash rates not confirmed. An agreement spanning introduction needs the funder’s written treatment of the charge and later changes. Check the government’s consultation response and final implementation guidance before committing. The Renault Clio powertrain discussed here is outside those planned electric and plug-in hybrid categories.

VAT and the business accounts

VAT-registered businesses can normally reclaim 50% of the VAT on qualifying car rentals where private use is available, depending on circumstances and the normal VAT rules. Full rental-VAT recovery requires exclusive business use with no private availability. Maintenance can fall outside the rental block when it is genuinely optional, separately described in the contract and separately quantified on the invoice; recovery remains subject to normal VAT rules. Read HMRC’s motoring VAT guidance.

Businesses using the VAT Flat Rate Scheme do not normally recover input VAT on recurring car hire. The separate capital-goods exception does not turn hire invoices into a vehicle purchase. Check HMRC’s Flat Rate Scheme guidance.

The hire-cost rules normally disallow 15% of otherwise deductible rentals for cars above 50 g/km, subject to their scope and exceptions. A company-car BiK easement does not establish relief from this restriction. Check HMRC’s car-hire deduction rules.

For accounting periods beginning on or after 1 January 2026, revised FRS 102 generally requires a right-of-use asset and lease liability for lessees, including small companies using Section 1A. FRS 105 lease accounting for eligible micro-entities was not changed in the same way. Contract hire therefore does not universally keep a car off the balance sheet. Ask your accountant to apply the right framework; HMRC summarises the accounting standards.

Build the quotation around the way you will use it

Tell IVF your annual mileage, regular passengers, essential equipment, charging access where relevant and preferred timing. Ask for the precise model year, derivative, options and registration status to be written into the quotation. The catalogue is a starting point; the offered vehicle and funder terms need confirmation.

Business Contract Hire is taken by the business; Personal Contract Hire is taken by the private individual. Both are subject to status and individual funder criteria. Compare the initial rental, term, mileage, maintenance and applicable fees on the same basis. An initial rental is part of the hire cost, not refundable security or ownership equity.

A manufacturer warranty starts under the supplied car’s warranty terms, normally from first registration. Its time and mileage limits may finish before your lease does. It is separate from optional servicing and tyre cover. Confirm maintenance inclusions, insurance responsibilities, tax provisions and early-termination terms before signing.

At the end of contract hire, return the vehicle; there is no contractual purchase option. Excess mileage, damage beyond the funder’s fair wear and tear standard, missing equipment or other contractual charges may still be payable. Check the return process before choosing your agreement.

Renault Clio leasing questions

Which Clio is currently covered by this page?

The current UK TCe 90 petrol and E-Tech full hybrid 145 cars listed by IVF. Renault’s forthcoming generation is discussed only to prevent its specifications being confused with current offers.

When does the next Renault Clio arrive in the UK?

Renault’s UK page checked on 28 September 2026 states 2027. That manufacturer timing is not an IVF allocation or delivery promise; current availability must be confirmed separately.

Is the current Clio hybrid a plug-in?

No. E-Tech full hybrid 145 does not need external charging. It uses petrol and recuperated energy, so it is different from a fully electric car.

Can I choose a manual Clio?

The captured TCe 90 entries provide the petrol-manual route. E-Tech 145 entries are automatic. Confirm the exact transmission and derivative on the written proposal.

Does a MY27 label mean the new Clio generation?

Not necessarily. Model year and body generation are different identifiers. Ask for the full specification rather than assuming a later model-year label includes the forthcoming car’s technology.

Do all Clio trims have the latest screens and cameras?

No. The current manufacturer range and older ratebook entries include different equipment. Have required features stated explicitly, especially when comparing Evolution, Techno or Esprit Alpine descriptions.

Is boot space identical in petrol and hybrid Clio?

Do not assume identical packaging or compare volumes measured on different bases. Test the actual powertrain with your luggage and passenger requirements rather than relying on one model-wide figure.

Does Clio full hybrid qualify for electric-car BiK?

No. It has certified tailpipe CO2 and follows its applicable petrol/hybrid band. The accountant needs its exact emissions and P11D value to calculate the driver’s liability.

Should I consider Renault 5 instead?

Yes if fully electric driving is the objective and dependable charging is available. Compare its own cabin and journey suitability; it is a separate vehicle rather than an electric Clio trim.

How should I request a Clio lease quotation?

Give IVF your timing, annual mileage, transmission preference, essential equipment and passenger needs. State whether you mean the current car or want information about the forthcoming generation.
