The Scenic is worth considering when the business car also has a full life outside work. The task may be a week of client visits followed by a family journey with bags, child seats and several charging stops to think about. Start by describing that combined use instead of choosing a battery or trim in isolation.

This Scenic is a five-seat electric car. If your expectation comes from the older Scenic name, reset the brief around the current vehicle rather than assuming the seating or layout of a previous generation. Test the rear bench with the passengers who will use it, and check how much luggage remains possible without folding seats you need.

It is not the right answer to an essential seven-seat requirement. Nor should the Long Range name be used to avoid planning journeys. The appeal lies in whether the current electric car’s passenger space, controls and load area suit you. A real demonstration can settle those questions more effectively than comparing a series of headline distance figures.

The current 87kWh listings and the meaning of the trim names

At the 28 September 2026 capture, IVF showed three Scenic derivatives: Techno, Techno Esprit Alpine and Iconic Esprit Alpine, all labelled 160kW, 87kWh and Long Range. That is a relatively focused range to discuss, but the names still need matching to the exact model year and equipment in the quotation.

Renault’s UK technical page for the checked Techno specification lists an 87kWh battery, 220 hp/160kW motor and front-wheel drive. Its current brochure is dated 4 August 2026. Those are dated UK references, not permission to apply specifications from a new overseas announcement or from an older battery version to the car IVF proposes.

Ask what the Esprit Alpine treatment changes on the offered model, and which additional equipment distinguishes Iconic. If a demonstrator has a roof, upholstery or assistance feature that matters to you, have it named in the quote. Do not rely on the appearance of the car or a generic trim description to settle an essential requirement.

Check the cabin with passengers, not just a tape measure

Renault’s checked Techno specification provides a useful size and boot benchmark, but passenger comfort depends on the people and equipment you put inside. Set the front seats to the regular drivers’ positions before anyone assesses rear legroom. With child seats, follow the vehicle and seat instructions and check the space left for the person in front.

For longer journeys, think about small items as well as the main boot. Decide where drinks, devices, coats and charging cables will go, and whether they can be reached without disturbing the driver. A family car can have sufficient total volume while an awkward storage arrangement still makes every stop harder than it needs to be.

Try the tailgate in your usual parking setting and load the bulky item you carry most often. If a roof accessory or towbar is needed, obtain the precise vehicle approval and load limits before assuming compatibility. The technical page is a starting reference; options, occupants and load must be considered together for the actual car.

Make Long Range a journey plan rather than a promise

An 87kWh battery gives a technical description, not a fixed distance between charges. Weather, speed, hills, load, wheels and heating can change the result. For your first assessment, use a familiar longer route with the people and luggage normally aboard, then consider where you would stop without disrupting the purpose of the trip.

At home or work, establish the charging access and electrical installation before relying on routine overnight replenishment. The car and charger have separate limits; a high-rated public post does not mean every session runs at that maximum. Ask for the exact AC and DC specification of the offered Scenic rather than assuming all model years behave identically.

For a business with shared drivers, make responsibility explicit: who connects the car, checks the charge before departure and manages charging accounts? For a household, agree the same basics between drivers. A clear handover routine can matter more than an extra feature, particularly when one person returns late and another needs the car early.

Compare the Scenic with the right alternatives

The Megane E-Tech is the nearby Renault comparison when you are unsure how much family-car space you need. Try the same passengers and luggage in both, because a smaller-feeling car may be enough for one routine while another needs the Scenic’s layout. Do not assume a higher model position automatically makes the better personal choice.

The Elroq provides an alternative electric SUV approach with its own battery and equipment choices. Compare seating, controls and the shape of the usable luggage space before moving to financial terms. A driver who values a particular screen layout or seat adjustment should demonstrate it, not infer it from the length of the specification list.

For the Scenic quotation, settle the trim, options, mileage and support expectations together. Check warranty and servicing documents against the expected annual distance and the contract length. If a journey pattern may change during the agreement, discuss the funder’s mileage-adjustment and early-termination terms now. Neither flexibility nor a future change in circumstances should be assumed to be cost-free.

A Scenic supplied as a company car for private use follows the zero-emission BiK path. The trim and options still matter because the calculation starts from the actual P11D. Review each tax year covered by the agreement instead of treating the first year’s percentage as fixed throughout.

Company-car BiK benchmarks, 2026/27 to 2029/30

For private use by an employee or director, P11D value multiplied by the appropriate percentage normally gives the taxable benefit. Personal tax depends on the individual’s income-tax rate and adjustments. Sole traders follow different rules. Confirm the exact car’s documents; these are conditional bands, not rates assigned to every listing.

Road tax and costs across the term

Vehicle Excise Duty (VED). The 2026/27 standard annual VED payment after year one is £200, before any supplement. First-year tax depends on CO2; zero-emission cars pay £10. Later annual cash rates are not confirmed here. Check how the funder handles increases.

Expensive Car Supplement. In 2026/27 the supplement is £440 annually for five years from the second licence. It applies above £40,000 list price for petrol/hybrid cars, or £50,000 for qualifying zero-emission cars registered from 1 April 2025. Include relevant options and ignore discounts. Check GOV.UK and the exact car’s registration.

Planned eVED. From April 2028 the government plans 3p per mile for electric cars and 1.5p for plug-in hybrids, alongside VED, subject to legislation and implementation. CPI uprating is planned from 2029/30; later cash rates are unconfirmed. Check the eVED response and the funder’s treatment. This charge is not currently in force.

Discuss business or personal leasing

VAT and the business accounts

VAT-registered businesses can normally reclaim 50% of the VAT on qualifying car rentals where private use is available, depending on circumstances and the normal VAT rules. Full rental-VAT recovery requires exclusive business use with no private availability. Maintenance can fall outside the rental block when it is genuinely optional, separately described in the contract and separately quantified on the invoice; recovery remains subject to normal VAT rules. A zero-emission car is not subject to the CO2-based lease-rental restriction. Check HMRC’s car-hire deduction rules.

For accounting periods beginning on or after 1 January 2026, revised FRS 102 generally requires a right-of-use asset and lease liability for lessees, including small companies using Section 1A. FRS 105 lease accounting for eligible micro-entities was not changed in the same way. Contract hire therefore does not universally keep a car off the balance sheet. Ask your accountant to apply the right framework; HMRC summarises the accounting standards.

Build the quotation around the way you will use it

Tell IVF your annual mileage, regular passengers, essential equipment, charging access where relevant and preferred timing. Ask for the precise model year, derivative, options and registration status to be written into the quotation. The catalogue is a starting point; the offered vehicle and funder terms need confirmation.

Business Contract Hire is taken by the business; Personal Contract Hire is taken by the private individual. Both are subject to status and individual funder criteria. Compare the initial rental, term, mileage, maintenance and applicable fees on the same basis. An initial rental is part of the hire cost, not refundable security or ownership equity.

A manufacturer warranty starts under the supplied car’s warranty terms, normally from first registration. Its time and mileage limits may finish before your lease does. It is separate from optional servicing and tyre cover. Confirm maintenance inclusions, insurance responsibilities, tax provisions and early-termination terms before signing.

At the end of contract hire, return the vehicle; there is no contractual purchase option. Excess mileage, damage beyond the funder’s fair wear and tear standard, missing equipment or other contractual charges may still be payable. Check the return process before choosing your agreement.
