Intelligent Vehicle Finance helps business and private drivers compare Toyota bZ4X leasing. Toyota’s current UK range differs from earlier bZ4X entries still visible in IVF’s catalogue. Match the battery, grade and drivetrain to the exact model year, then assess charging, passenger use and contract terms; bZ4X Touring is a separate choice.
The bZ4X is a battery-electric SUV for drivers who want to assess Toyota’s approach to everyday electric travel. It can be relevant to a company driver combining commuting and client visits, or a household that needs passenger space and an organised charging routine. Its name alone is not enough to define the vehicle, because the current range and earlier catalogue entries sit together on the live route.
The first useful question is therefore which bZ4X is being offered. Once that is clear, test seating, controls and luggage with your normal journeys in mind. If you need a different load-carrying brief, assess bZ4X Touring on its own page. If plugging in does not fit your circumstances, Toyota C-HR is a separate model to compare, with its own powertrain choices rather than an electric bZ4X substitute.
Discuss your vehicle requirements
Toyota bZ4X and two alternatives: choose by the job each car does
| Model | Reason to consider it | Check before choosing |
|---|---|---|
| Toyota bZ4X | Electric SUV with current and earlier catalogue specifications | Exact model year, battery and driven wheels |
| Toyota bZ4X Touring | Separate Toyota electric carrying task | Body, equipment and load requirements |
| Toyota C-HR | Different Toyota size and powertrain brief | Whether plugging in is part of the requirement |
Toyota’s UK announcement for the revised bZ4X opened orders in November 2025 for the 2026 model year. The current UK material checked on 28 September 2026 lists Icon with the smaller battery and Design or Excel with the larger one. Excel has front-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive versions. Those distinctions should appear explicitly in the quotation.
The live IVF grid contains the newer Icon, Design and Excel records alongside older Pure, Motion and Vision labels with 71.4kWh descriptions. It rounds the newer battery labels to 58kWh and 73kWh, while Toyota publishes 57.7kWh and 73.1kWh. These naming differences are a reason to reconcile the exact vehicle, not to combine the specifications into one generic bZ4X.
An earlier catalogue record may still be a sourcing enquiry, but its presence does not prove immediate availability or current production status. Ask for the registration position, build specification and complete equipment list. Do not attach the revised model’s charging, power or range information to an older Motion or Vision car merely because the body name is the same.
For an ordinary commuting and family brief, begin with the driven-wheel arrangement you actually need. If all-wheel drive is important because of a regular route or site, explain the reason and test a matching car. Do not assume an Excel badge alone establishes all-wheel drive, because the current range offers both configurations in that grade.
Assess insurance, tyres and certified consumption for the proposed version. A drivetrain upgrade changes more than the name on the tailgate, and it should be compared on the same contract basis. For a small business assigning cars to different drivers, record whether all-wheel drive is essential or simply preferred, so an alternative quotation can be evaluated honestly.
The same principle applies to towing or carrying accessories. Use the permitted limits and approved equipment of the actual car, including its powertrain and registration specification. A figure from another bZ4X should not be used to sign off a towing task. Discuss any intended towbar or carrier with the supplying party and funder before assuming installation is permitted.
Battery size is only one part of a charging decision. The car’s onboard AC equipment and its DC capability must match the model year and grade under discussion. An office charging point may offer more power than a particular car can accept, while a home supply may be the limiting factor. Obtain the vehicle sheet and installation information before predicting an overnight result.
Plan the journeys that happen repeatedly, including the point at which the car returns to a charger. A driver who can plug in most evenings has a different requirement from someone who relies on a public stop during a busy workday. Leave a margin for cold weather, motorway speeds and a changed route. A laboratory range comparison should not become a commitment to reach an appointment without stopping.
Try the navigation and charging controls during the demonstration. Check account setup, scheduling and any services you expect to use remotely. If more than one person drives the car, agree how charging responsibility passes between them. For a leased business car, electricity reimbursement and parking access should be clear enough that the routine still works when the usual driver is absent.
Set the front seats, then assess the rear with the people who travel most often. Try the loading opening with your regular luggage and check visibility from the driving position. The bZ4X should be comfortable and manageable in your real parking spaces, not simply acceptable in a showroom. Include a more constrained parking manoeuvre in the road test if that is part of daily use.
bZ4X Touring has a distinct route and should be assessed separately for its own body and carrying task. Do not transfer its equipment, battery or loading claims to this bZ4X. C-HR provides another Toyota comparison when a different size and powertrain brief may fit better. The purpose of the alternatives is to test your priorities, not to suggest the models are interchangeable.
Toyota’s warranty wording distinguishes the initial manufacturer warranty, service-activated vehicle cover and traction-battery arrangements. Qualifying servicing and other conditions matter. Ask which programme applies to the exact vehicle and how the planned annual mileage interacts with its limits. Do not describe a conditional extension as unconditional cover simply because the lease term falls within a headline number of years.
Keep the final specification and support documents with the contract. For a company car, use the actual P11D and registration information in the tax calculation. For private use, obtain an insurance quotation against the correct grade and model year. Those checks prevent a familiar badge from concealing meaningful differences between the vehicles being compared.
The bZ4X’s electric company-car percentage is only one input. Use the correct P11D for the actual model year, grade and options, and keep the road-tax list-price calculation separate. An earlier catalogue record must not inherit the new range’s financial or technical figures.
For an employee or director with private use, the bZ4X taxable benefit normally equals P11D multiplied by the annual percentage, before applying personal income tax. It is not a percentage of the lease payment. A sole trader follows different rules.
Company-car BiK benchmarks, 2026/27 to 2029/30
| Tax specification | 2026/27 | 2027/28 | 2028/29 | 2029/30 |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Zero-emission electric car | 4% | 5% | 7% | 9% |
Use our company-car BiK guide alongside HMRC’s 2026/27 and 2027/28 tables and the published 2028/29 and 2029/30 changes. Tax information checked 28 September 2026 against the C1 ledger and its primary sources. Tax treatment depends on individual circumstances and may change; consult your accountant.
Vehicle Excise Duty (VED). For 2026/27, the standard annual VED payment after the first year is £200 before any supplement. First-year VED depends on CO2 and registration rules; zero-emission cars currently have a £10 first-year rate. These cash rates apply to 2026/27 only; later annual VED rates are not confirmed here. Ask how the funder treats tax increases during your agreement.
Expensive Car Supplement. The Expensive Car Supplement is currently £440 a year for five years from the second licence. The list-price threshold is more than £40,000 for petrol, diesel and hybrid cars, or more than £50,000 for qualifying zero-emission cars registered from 1 April 2025. Use the published list price before discounts, including relevant options, and check the registration date. Plug-in hybrids do not receive the electric-car threshold. GOV.UK explains VED and the supplement.
Planned eVED. Planned from April 2028, eVED would add 3p per mile for electric cars and 1.5p for plug-in hybrids alongside VED. It is not currently in force; final legislation and implementation remain relevant. CPI uprating is planned from 2029/30, so later cash rates are not fixed here. Confirm the funder’s treatment of this charge for a contract crossing introduction. Read the government’s eVED consultation response.
Talk through the car and the agreement
VAT-registered businesses can normally reclaim 50% of the VAT on qualifying car rentals where private use is available, depending on circumstances and the normal VAT rules. Full rental-VAT recovery requires exclusive business use with no private availability. Maintenance can fall outside the rental block when it is genuinely optional, separately described in the contract and separately quantified on the invoice; recovery remains subject to normal VAT rules. Read HMRC’s motoring VAT guidance.
Businesses using the VAT Flat Rate Scheme do not normally recover input VAT on recurring car hire. The separate capital-goods exception does not turn hire invoices into a vehicle purchase. Check HMRC’s Flat Rate Scheme guidance.
A zero-emission car is not subject to the CO2-based lease-rental restriction. Check HMRC’s car-hire deduction rules.
For accounting periods beginning on or after 1 January 2026, revised FRS 102 generally requires a right-of-use asset and lease liability for lessees, including small companies using Section 1A. FRS 105 lease accounting for eligible micro-entities was not changed in the same way. Contract hire therefore does not universally keep a car off the balance sheet. Ask your accountant to apply the right framework; HMRC summarises the accounting standards.
Tell IVF your annual mileage, regular passengers, essential equipment, charging access where relevant and preferred timing. Ask for the precise model year, derivative, options and registration status to be written into the quotation. The catalogue is a starting point; the offered vehicle and funder terms need confirmation.
Business Contract Hire is taken by the business; Personal Contract Hire is taken by the private individual. Both are subject to status and individual funder criteria. Compare the initial rental, term, mileage, maintenance and applicable fees on the same basis. An initial rental is part of the hire cost, not refundable security or ownership equity.
A manufacturer warranty starts under the supplied car’s warranty terms, normally from first registration. Its time and mileage limits may finish before your lease does. It is separate from optional servicing and tyre cover. Confirm maintenance inclusions, insurance responsibilities, tax provisions and early-termination terms before signing.
At the end of contract hire, return the vehicle; there is no contractual purchase option. Excess mileage, damage beyond the funder’s fair wear and tear standard, missing equipment or other contractual charges may still be payable. Check the return process before choosing your agreement.

Ready to refine your shortlist?
Yes. The bZ4X discussed here is battery-electric. It needs a workable charging arrangement for your journeys. Toyota’s hybrid models serve different tasks, so compare a separate model such as C-HR if you want to assess a different powertrain approach.
Toyota’s revised UK range uses Icon, Design and Excel. The current specification includes two battery options and an all-wheel-drive choice for Excel. Confirm the exact model year and equipment before comparing a newer car with older catalogue labels.
The capture retains earlier Pure, Motion and Vision records alongside the revised Icon, Design and Excel range. Toyota’s current battery figures are 57.7kWh and 73.1kWh, while IVF rounds the newer labels. Reconcile the specific car instead of combining data from different generations.
No. The revised UK Excel range includes front-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive choices. State which one you require and check the complete quotation. The grade name alone does not establish the drivetrain, insurance position or certified performance figures.
Treat Touring as a separate model choice with its own route, body and carrying requirements. Do not borrow its battery, equipment or luggage claims for this page’s vehicle. Compare both in person if load space is a deciding factor.
No. Charging equipment and technical figures must match the exact model year, battery and grade. An earlier Motion or Vision record does not automatically gain the revised car’s capability. Obtain the corresponding Toyota UK specification before making a journey or installation decision.
Try the driving position, instrument visibility, rear seating and your normal luggage. Test a realistic parking manoeuvre and the charging controls. If the demonstration car differs from the quotation, ask for the equipment and technical differences to be identified in writing.
The initial vehicle warranty and later service-activated cover have different conditions. Qualifying servicing, vehicle eligibility, age and mileage limits matter. Ask which cover applies to the car supplied and check the separate traction-battery terms rather than relying on one headline duration.
Use the qualifying zero-emission percentage and the exact car’s P11D value for each tax year. Review road tax and any list-price supplement separately. A newer or more highly specified bZ4X may have different values even though the powertrain remains electric.
It should identify grade, model year, battery, drivetrain, packs, annual mileage and term. The grid displays rentals, but the written offer confirms initial rental, maintenance and other obligations. Ask IVF to verify supply and registration status for any older catalogue record.
