Toyota offers several answers to a familiar working-week problem: a car must handle ordinary journeys without becoming awkward when the family, equipment or a longer trip comes along. Corolla Touring Sports gives you an estate option without an SUV body. Yaris Cross is a smaller raised-body alternative. RAV4 addresses a larger SUV requirement, while the bZ4X family asks you to plan for fully electric travel.
Do not start by assuming the tallest car has the most useful luggage space. The current bZ4X Touring benchmark is 669 litres behind the rear seats, compared with up to 446 litres for the all-new RAV4 Plug-in Hybrid. That is a 223-litre difference between specific current bodies, not between every Toyota SUV or every RAV4 generation. Try your cases through the opening and retain the seats your passengers need.
Toyota names also hide important distinctions. Touring Sports describes Corolla's estate body, whereas GR Sport describes a grade. C-HR+ is a separate electric model, not a larger battery option for C-HR Plug-in Hybrid. Write these choices into an enquiry so a quotation cannot drift to a different car with a similar badge.
Use this comparison to separate the vehicle decisions before comparing agreements. Model pages can contain several generations or bodies; specify the one you want.
| Model page | Body and powertrain | Decision to make |
|---|---|---|
| Aygo X | Compact hatchback; earlier petrol and current hybrid | Four-seat requirement and generation before gearbox. |
| bZ4X Touring | Larger-luggage electric SUV | Compare Design FWD and Excel AWD. |
| bZ4X | Battery-electric SUV | Earlier and current batteries need separate figures. |
| C-HR+ | Separate battery-electric SUV | Use its own model and battery specification. |
| C-HR | Hybrid or plug-in hybrid crossover | Charging routine and rear access. |
| Corolla | Hybrid hatchback and Touring Sports estate | Choose body separately from GR Sport grade. |
| GR Yaris | Petrol performance hatchback | A separate driving and insurance brief from Yaris Hybrid. |
| Prius | Plug-in hybrid hatchback | Regular charging rather than SUV dimensions. |
| Proace City Verso | Electric passenger carrier | Body length, fitted seats and luggage together. |
| Proace Verso | Larger electric passenger carrier | Check passenger layout, L1/L2 and battery. |
| RAV4 | Hybrid and plug-in SUV generations | Identify generation and certified tax data. |
| Yaris Cross | Hybrid SUV | Raised seating and actual rear access. |
| Yaris | Full-hybrid hatchback | Compact access without an external charging routine. |
For regular petrol refuelling without a charger, start with the full hybrids. Yaris, Yaris Cross and Corolla serve different passenger and parking tasks. In the compact end of the range, the new Aygo X Hybrid replaces the older petrol approach, but earlier 1.0-litre catalogue descriptions must still be assessed as that older car.
Corolla Icon 1.8 Hybrid hatchback provides a useful scoped benchmark: Toyota publishes 57.6–64.1 mpg WLTP combined for the selected configuration range, 352 litres of load volume, equivalent to 0.352 cubic metres, and a 4,370 mm body. A Touring Sports estate or a 2.0 Hybrid does not inherit the hatchback's luggage figure. Laboratory consumption also cannot predict your motorway or winter result.
Aygo X Icon 1.5 Hybrid has four seats, a 3,776 mm body and 231 litres of load volume, or 0.231 cubic metres. Its published 70.6–74.3 mpg WLTP combined applies to the matching hybrid configuration range, not the earlier petrol car. Needing a fifth passenger place is a reason to move to another model before discussing trim.
Prius, C-HR and RAV4 plug-in enquiries should begin with how often you can recharge. Selected all-new RAV4 grades have an up-to-85-mile WLTP electric benchmark, subject to the exact battery, wheels and grade. Earlier conventional hybrids and the older PHEV generation, including 22 g/km catalogue entries, are different specifications. Check real journey length and charging access against the supplied generation.
For an SME, Toyota's breadth makes a written driver brief especially valuable. A field-based employee carrying equipment may need Corolla Touring Sports; another driver with dependable charging may prefer bZ4X. Pool-car allocation and private availability are separate questions, so record who can take the car home before the accountant assesses it. A hybrid badge does not settle either VAT recovery or the driver's benefit.
VAT-registered businesses can normally reclaim 50% of the VAT on qualifying car rentals where private use is available, depending on circumstances and the normal VAT rules. Full rental-VAT recovery requires exclusive business use with no private availability. Maintenance can fall outside the rental block when it is genuinely optional, separately described in the contract and separately quantified on the invoice; recovery remains subject to normal VAT rules. Read HMRC’s motoring VAT guidance.
The hire-cost rules normally disallow 15% of otherwise deductible rentals for cars above 50 g/km, subject to their scope and exceptions. A company-car BiK easement does not establish relief from this restriction. Check HMRC’s car-hire deduction rules.
For accounting periods beginning on or after 1 January 2026, revised FRS 102 generally requires a right-of-use asset and lease liability for lessees, including small companies using Section 1A. FRS 105 lease accounting for eligible micro-entities was not changed in the same way. Contract hire therefore does not universally keep a car off the balance sheet. Ask your accountant to apply the right framework; HMRC summarises the accounting standards.
Flat Rate Scheme users generally cannot reclaim VAT on recurring car-hire payments. Ask your accountant which VAT regime applies before using the recovery examples above.
A personal Toyota lease should serve the household as it exists during the agreement. Compare Yaris with Yaris Cross using the same rear passengers and pushchair, rather than paying attention only to seating height. For a growing family, test the estate and SUV alternatives with rear seats occupied.
PCH does not give a private driver the employee's zero-emission BiK percentage as a rental reduction. Evaluate the complete hire commitment and likely energy use. If the car must replace an existing vehicle on a particular date, make that deadline part of the enquiry and wait for specific supply confirmation before arranging the changeover.
Toyota company-car tax must distinguish a petrol-fed full hybrid, a rechargeable plug-in and a zero-emission EV. The same model family can contain materially different tax specifications. Use the year-by-year path rather than treating the first percentage as fixed for the lease.
For private availability to an employee or director, multiply the actual P11D value by the applicable percentage to establish the annual benefit before adjustments; the driver’s income tax rate then determines personal tax. This is distinct from the business’s rental and from a sole trader’s own motoring treatment.
The retained examples are dated catalogue illustrations from 10 September 2026, not current vehicle quotations. They assume a full year, 40% income tax and no employee contributions or other adjustments. Different vehicles illustrate the formula, not a like-for-like saving.
| Listed derivative | P11D value | Emissions basis | BiK | Annual income tax |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Corolla 1.8 Hybrid Icon Hatchback | £30,425 | 100 g/km | 26% | £3,164.20 |
| bZ4X 165 kW Design 73 kWh FWD | £45,730 | Zero-emission electric | 4% | £731.68 |
| Tax specification | 2026/27 | 2027/28 | 2028/29 | 2029/30 |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Zero-emission electric Toyota | 4% | 5% | 7% | 9% |
| Qualifying PHEV: 1-50 g/km, certified 70-129 electric miles | 7% | 8% | 18% | 19% |
| Qualifying PHEV: 1-50 g/km, certified 40-69 electric miles | 10% | 11% | 18% | 19% |
| Petrol hybrid, certified 100-104 g/km | 26% | 26% | 27% | 28% |
These are conditional tax bands, not assigned rates for every Toyota. Confirm the supplied car’s P11D, certified CO2, fuel type and registration date. Diesel supplements can apply where the required emissions certification is absent, subject to the annual maximum.
The electric-mile figures above are HMRC band thresholds, not promises of this car’s driving range. Newer plug-in hybrid certification can show more than 50 g/km. A temporary company-car easement may treat an eligible car as 1 g/km where the registration date, electric range and Euro-status conditions are met; it is not automatic and must not be transferred to lease-rental deductions. Check the vehicle documents and HMRC’s plug-in hybrid conditions with your accountant.
Use our company-car BiK guide alongside HMRC’s 2026/27 and 2027/28 tables and the published 2028/29 and 2029/30 changes. Tax information checked 27 September 2026 against the C1 ledger and its primary sources. Tax treatment depends on individual circumstances and may change; consult your accountant.
Vehicle Excise Duty (VED). For 2026/27, the standard annual VED payment after the first year is £200 before any supplement. First-year VED depends on CO2 and registration rules; zero-emission cars currently have a £10 first-year rate. These cash rates apply to 2026/27 only; later annual VED rates are not confirmed here. Ask how the funder treats tax increases during your agreement.
Expensive Car Supplement. The Expensive Car Supplement is £440 a year in 2026/27 for five years from the second licence. The list-price threshold is more than £40,000 for petrol, diesel and hybrid cars, or more than £50,000 for qualifying zero-emission cars registered from 1 April 2025. Use the published list price before discounts, including relevant options, and check the registration date. Plug-in hybrids do not receive the electric-car threshold. GOV.UK explains VED and the supplement.
Planned eVED. The government plans Electric Vehicle Excise Duty (eVED) from April 2028, alongside VED: 3p per mile for electric cars and 1.5p per mile for plug-in hybrids. This is proposed for April 2028, subject to legislation and implementation; it is not a charge currently in force. The stated rates are planned starting rates, with CPI uprating proposed from 2029/30 and later cash rates not confirmed. An agreement spanning introduction needs the funder’s written treatment of the charge and later changes. Check the government’s consultation response and final implementation guidance before committing.
The standard bZ4X and bZ4X Touring need separate charging plans. For current standard bZ4X Design with the 73.1 kWh battery option, Toyota's benchmark is up to 352 miles WLTP, with a 452-litre boot. It quotes approximately 32 minutes from 10–80% using a suitable 150 kW rapid charger. Those numbers do not describe earlier 71.4 kWh or smaller 58 kWh-labelled cars; battery temperature, arrival charge and charger performance affect the stop.
Current Touring Design FWD reaches up to 366 miles WLTP combined, while Excel AWD is quoted at up to 298 miles. These are 74.7 kWh gross UK specifications, sometimes rounded to 75 kWh in catalogue labels. Wheels, equipment, speed, weather and load change applicability and real consumption. Touring's larger body is not simply an equipment pack on standard bZ4X.
For a plug-in, calculate how much of the ordinary week starts charged and how much involves extended petrol running. Include the tariff where the car actually parks and the cost of occasional public charging. For an EV, check the longest repeated journey with a reserve, rather than planning every trip to exhaust the advertised laboratory range.
Toyota's original manufacturing warranty is generally three years or 60,000 miles, whichever arrives first. Eligible vehicles can subsequently receive service-activated cover following a qualifying authorised Toyota service, with qualifying services available until ten years or 100,000 miles. These are conditional extensions with their own cover, not ten unconditional years supplied at handover.
On an agreement extending beyond original cover, settle the workshop and service schedule before selecting maintenance. A funder's package might pay for servicing without necessarily satisfying every activation condition. Ask how the chosen provider maintains eligibility and what happens if your mileage reaches a limit early.
Traction-battery protection must be read in the booklet for that Toyota model and registration. A general Toyota battery-care headline cannot be carried from a hybrid to an electric car. Consumables, tyres and routine servicing also need separate provision. Keep the warranty document and maintenance inclusions with the quotation.
Proace City Verso and Proace Verso answer a passenger-access task. Their body lengths and fitted seating should be checked with luggage behind every seat you intend to occupy. A 75 kWh-labelled Proace Verso L1 or L2 entry does not, by itself, establish seating or usable battery capacity. Passenger-car and commercial-van tax assumptions must stay attached to the relevant vehicle.
GR Yaris belongs on a performance shortlist of its own. It is not simply a Yaris Hybrid with different styling. Check insurance, tyre provision and the equipment required for your intended use before deciding whether that specialist car belongs in a daily fleet or household.
For C-HR and C-HR+, inspect rear-door access and rearward visibility in the actual body. For the bZ4X choices, establish whether all-wheel drive answers a real requirement or whether front-wheel drive meets the task. Do the driveway and luggage checks before spending time on colour or cosmetic options.
Tell IVF your annual mileage, regular passengers, essential equipment, charging access where relevant and preferred timing. Ask for the precise model year, derivative, options and registration status to be written into the quotation. The catalogue is a starting point; the offered vehicle and funder terms need confirmation.
Business Contract Hire is taken by the business; Personal Contract Hire is taken by the private individual. Both are subject to status and individual funder criteria. Compare the initial rental, term, mileage, maintenance and applicable fees on the same basis. An initial rental is part of the hire cost, not refundable security or ownership equity.
A manufacturer warranty starts under the supplied car’s warranty terms, normally from first registration. Its time and mileage limits may finish before your lease does. It is separate from optional servicing and tyre cover. Confirm maintenance inclusions, insurance responsibilities, tax provisions and early-termination terms before signing.
At the end of contract hire, return the vehicle; there is no contractual purchase option. Excess mileage, damage beyond the funder’s fair wear and tear standard, missing equipment or other contractual charges may still be payable. Check the return process before choosing your agreement.
For a related hybrid and electric comparison, follow the Lexus manufacturer page with the same passenger and charging requirements. Kia and Hyundai offer further electric-body comparisons. Keep Toyota passenger Verso and a commercial van enquiry separate.

Separate body, generation and powertrain before comparing term, annual mileage, maintenance and the initial-rental structure. Corolla Touring Sports, C-HR+ and bZ4X Touring identify meaningful vehicle differences. Ask IVF to name the precise car and confirm supply in writing.
Use the driver’s working pattern: Corolla Touring Sports for an estate requirement, a suitable hybrid where regular plugging in is impractical, or an electric model where charging fits. Private availability, P11D and the exact certified specification determine the employee’s tax assessment.
They are separate model choices. C-HR includes hybrid and plug-in hybrid versions, while C-HR+ is battery-electric. The plus sign changes the powertrain and charging decision; it is not merely a trim badge.
No. Earlier 1.0-litre petrol descriptions must be distinguished from the current 1.5 Hybrid. Ask for the model year, engine and gearbox. The current hybrid’s economy figures cannot describe the older petrol derivative.
GR Sport is an equipment grade. Touring Sports identifies the estate body. A useful quotation states both, as well as the engine. The hatchback’s published luggage volume must not be used for the estate.
Try Corolla Touring Sports alongside the appropriate SUV. Current bZ4X Touring provides a different electric-car loading option from standard bZ4X and all-new RAV4 Plug-in Hybrid. Check the matching generation, rear-seat use and the shape of your own load.
A conventional full hybrid does not use an external charger. A plug-in hybrid needs regular plugging in to make useful use of externally supplied electricity, while a battery-electric Toyota relies on charging. Identify the powertrain before assessing your parking arrangements.
Original vehicle cover and later service-activated cover are separate. The additional programme depends on qualifying authorised servicing, vehicle eligibility, age and mileage. Agree a maintenance route that supports those conditions if you intend to rely on it.
No. Confirm its passenger configuration and body length, including the luggage area with the required seats occupied. A passenger Verso and a commercial Proace van have different buyer tasks and need their own vehicle and tax checks.
IVF needs the actual derivative and supply position, followed by the funder’s checks and agreed handover arrangements. State your required date early. A model page or manufacturer launch date is not an allocated vehicle or confirmed delivery appointment.
