Your Volkswagen Tayron leasing decision

Intelligent Vehicle Finance helps business and private drivers assess Volkswagen Tayron leasing after the Tiguan Allspace. Start with passenger count: the Tayron offers seven-seat versions, while the eHybrid is a five-seat choice. Compare the exact engine, load space and charging plan, then confirm the vehicle and contract with IVF.

Volkswagen Tayron business and personal leasing: seats before powertrain

The Tayron is the Volkswagen to assess when your family or work-passenger brief has moved beyond the standard five-seat Tiguan. It followed the Tiguan Allspace, so the name change matters for someone replacing that older model. Treat the Tayron as a fresh vehicle assessment, with its own seat configuration, powertrain and luggage arrangement. Familiarity with an Allspace does not establish that the new car will carry the same people and equipment in the same way.

The first decision is whether you actually need seven seats. Volkswagen’s technical material separates the seven-seat configuration from the plug-in eHybrid, which is a five-seat choice. If you require both plug-in operation and an additional row, that is a reason to compare another model rather than accept a compromise unnoticed. Our recommendation is to agree the passenger requirement before allowing a company-car tax calculation to decide the engine.

Volkswagen Tayron leasing: key facts

  • The Tayron followed the Tiguan Allspace as Volkswagen’s larger family-SUV proposition; the current UK site confirms Tayron availability.
  • Volkswagen distinguishes five- and seven-seat configurations. Its press technical material excludes the plug-in hybrid from the seven-seat option.
  • UK technical data lists 1.5 eTSI, 1.5 TSI eHybrid, 2.0 TDI and 2.0 TSI 4Motion families.
  • The UK eHybrid table identifies 204 PS and 272 PS system-output versions, distinct from the petrol engine’s own output.
  • The captured UK Tayron technical table gives 4,792 mm length; check exact dimensions, mirrors and parking clearance for the offered derivative.
  • GOV.UK: the maximum company-car BiK band is 37% in 2026/27 and 39% in 2029/30; the exact car can fall in a lower band.

For a smaller five-seat Volkswagen, compare the Tiguan. Seat-count claims must belong to the proposed derivative, not the whole model family.

What IVF’s Tayron range shows

Thirty-nine derivative rows were captured on the IVF route. They include 1.5 eTSI, 2.0 TDI and 2.0 TSI 4Motion entries with explicit seven-seat wording, plus 1.5 TSI eHybrid descriptions. Life, Match, Style, Elegance, R-Line and R-Line Edition appear, alongside Area View, Comfort and Comfort/Tech variants. These are catalogue descriptions, not evidence of individual stock or delivery dates, and some engine-output labels are abbreviated.

A useful quotation brief should identify the number of seats, the precise engine and gearbox, and the contents of any equipment pack together. The eHybrid rows use DSG6 descriptions while several other versions use DSG7. Do not treat those strings as interchangeable, or assume a trim badge settles the drivetrain. Where the row includes a 272 output label, confirm that it refers to the intended system specification rather than comparing it with the petrol engine’s output alone.

Test the third row as an actual passenger space

If you need the extra row, put the intended occupants in it and check the whole journey experience. Entry, foot space, seatbelt access and visibility can matter as much as sitting room. Child-seat compatibility needs the relevant vehicle and restraint instructions, not an assumption based on the total seat count. Think about how someone reaches the rear row when another child seat is already fitted and whether your normal parking space leaves room to do so.

Then load the luggage with every required seat still in use. A large luggage figure measured with rear seats folded does not describe a seven-person holiday. Bring the pushchair, cases or work bags that define the hardest normal journey. If those do not fit, consider how often that conflict occurs and whether an alternative body is needed. Optional extra capacity should not be treated as permission to exceed the vehicle’s weight or roof-load limits.

Choose eHybrid only against a five-seat and charging brief

The Tayron eHybrid can be worth assessing for a company driver who needs the larger body but only five seats and can charge consistently. Resolve the practical charging arrangement before assuming that most local trips will use the battery. Home installation, workplace access, energy payment and the days spent away from either point belong in the decision. A plug-in label cannot supply that routine on its own.

The exact derivative also governs official range and charging data. This page does not copy a maximum electric-mile figure across every eHybrid row or promise a public-charger stop duration. Weather, speed, load and the battery’s starting state affect real use. Ask for the specific car’s technical record, then evaluate the full petrol-and-electric pattern. A finance lead needs a realistic operating assumption as well as the driver’s conditional BiK band.

Compare Sorento and Santa Fe for the same passenger task

The Kia Sorento and Hyundai Santa Fe are natural alternatives when the starting requirement is a family SUV with additional seating. Compare their actual UK seat configurations and powertrain choices rather than assuming every hybrid badge means the same layout. The Tayron may remain the preferred vehicle, but that preference should survive an honest check of entry, luggage, controls and the way the cabin will be used over the whole agreement.

For business use, distinguish occasional staff transport from a vehicle allocated to one employee who also carries family privately. That distinction changes the questions about driver eligibility, insurance and tax, without changing the need to assess comfort. If you only need five seats and a smaller body, return to the standard Tiguan. If you are specifically replacing a Tiguan Allspace, explain which features of that car you must retain and which compromises you want the replacement to solve.

Volkswagen Tayron company-car tax across the lease

The Tayron’s company-car calculation comes after its seating decision. The five-seat eHybrid may fall into a conditional plug-in band, while eTSI, TDI and TSI choices require their own CO2-based calculation. Obtain P11D, registration and certification evidence before comparing the driver’s liability across the full agreement.

For an employee or director with private use, the taxable benefit normally starts with the car’s P11D value multiplied by the applicable BiK percentage. Personal tax then depends on the individual’s income tax rate and any relevant adjustments. The percentage is not the tax rate applied to the lease rental. A sole trader’s own business car use follows different rules.

The agreement can cross several tax years. Compare the whole path, not just the percentage in the year the car arrives.

These are conditional tax bands, not assigned rates for every Volkswagen Tayron. Confirm the supplied car’s P11D, certified CO2, fuel type and registration date. Diesel supplements can apply where the required emissions certification is absent, subject to the annual maximum.

The electric-mile figures above are HMRC band thresholds, not promises of this car’s driving range. Newer plug-in hybrid certification can show more than 50 g/km. A temporary company-car easement may treat an eligible car as 1 g/km where the registration date, electric range and Euro-status conditions are met; it is not automatic and must not be transferred to lease-rental deductions. Check the vehicle documents and HMRC’s plug-in hybrid conditions with your accountant.

Use our company-car BiK guide alongside HMRC’s 2026/27 and 2027/28 tables and the published 2028/29 and 2029/30 changes. Tax information checked 24 September 2026 against the C1 ledger and its primary sources. Tax treatment depends on individual circumstances and may change; consult your accountant.

Road tax and costs across the term

Vehicle Excise Duty (VED). A Tayron still incurs ordinary VED whether it uses petrol, diesel or plug-in hybrid power. The initial duty depends on CO2 and registration; the standard annual payment after the first year is £200 in 2026/27 before supplements. Ask the funder how it includes vehicle tax and passes on future changes. Later cash rates are not predicted here.

Expensive Car Supplement. The Tayron eHybrid is not entitled to the qualifying zero-emission £50,000 list-price threshold. For these petrol, diesel and hybrid vehicles, an original list price above £40,000, including relevant options, brings the Expensive Car Supplement into consideration. The 2026/27 amount is £440 each year for five years from the second licence. Check the exact vehicle against GOV.UK’s published rules.

Planned eVED. Planned eVED creates an additional question for a five-seat Tayron eHybrid from April 2028: the proposed initial PHEV rate is 1.5p per mile, alongside VED. Electric cars have a proposed 3p starting rate; ordinary petrol, mild-hybrid and diesel Tayrons are outside those categories. CPI uprating is proposed from 2029/30, subject to implementation and legislation. Obtain the funder’s treatment before relying on the government’s announced framework.

VAT and the business accounts

VAT-registered businesses can normally reclaim 50% of the VAT on qualifying car rentals where private use is available, depending on circumstances and the normal VAT rules. Full rental-VAT recovery requires exclusive business use with no private availability. Maintenance can fall outside the rental block when it is genuinely optional, separately described in the contract and separately quantified on the invoice; recovery remains subject to normal VAT rules. Read HMRC’s motoring VAT guidance.

The hire-cost rules normally disallow 15% of otherwise deductible rentals for cars above 50 g/km, subject to their scope and exceptions. A company-car BiK easement does not establish relief from this restriction. Check HMRC’s car-hire deduction rules.

For accounting periods beginning on or after 1 January 2026, revised FRS 102 generally requires a right-of-use asset and lease liability for lessees, including small companies using Section 1A. FRS 105 lease accounting for eligible micro-entities was not changed in the same way. Contract hire therefore does not universally keep a car off the balance sheet. Ask your accountant to apply the right framework; HMRC summarises the accounting standards.

Flat Rate Scheme users generally cannot reclaim VAT on recurring car-hire payments. Ask your accountant which VAT regime applies before using the recovery examples above.

Build the quotation around the way you will use it

Tell IVF your annual mileage, regular passengers, essential equipment, charging access where relevant and preferred timing. Ask for the precise model year, derivative, options and registration status to be written into the quotation. The catalogue is a starting point; the offered vehicle and funder terms need confirmation.

Business Contract Hire is taken by the business; Personal Contract Hire is taken by the private individual. Both are subject to status and individual funder criteria. Compare the initial rental, term, mileage, maintenance and applicable fees on the same basis. An initial rental is part of the hire cost, not refundable security or ownership equity.

A manufacturer warranty starts under the supplied car’s warranty terms, normally from first registration. Its time and mileage limits may finish before your lease does. It is separate from optional servicing and tyre cover. Confirm maintenance inclusions, insurance responsibilities, tax provisions and early-termination terms before signing.

At the end of contract hire, return the vehicle; there is no contractual purchase option. Excess mileage, damage beyond the funder’s fair wear and tear standard, missing equipment or other contractual charges may still be payable. Check the return process before choosing your agreement.

Volkswagen Tayron leasing questions

Can I enquire about Tayron business or personal leasing?

Yes. Tell IVF whether you need five or seven seats before selecting an engine. The exact car, agreement and supply position must be confirmed, with status and funder criteria applying to any proposal.

Did the Volkswagen Tayron replace the Tiguan Allspace?

The Tayron followed the Tiguan Allspace as Volkswagen’s larger family-SUV proposition. They remain separate routes. If replacing an Allspace, check seat access, luggage and the chosen Tayron powertrain rather than assuming a like-for-like specification.

Is every Tayron a seven-seater?

No. Volkswagen offers different configurations and the plug-in eHybrid is a five-seat choice. The captured IVF petrol and diesel rows often state seven seats explicitly. Confirm the exact layout in the quotation before committing.

Can I have seven seats in a Tayron eHybrid?

Volkswagen’s technical material excludes the plug-in hybrid from the seven-seat option. If seven seats and plug-in operation are both essential, compare a separately confirmed alternative such as the appropriate Sorento or Santa Fe derivative.

Which Tayron powertrains appear on IVF?

The capture contains 1.5 eTSI, 2.0 TDI, 2.0 TSI 4Motion and 1.5 TSI eHybrid families. Trim and equipment packs create multiple rows. Shortened names still need a full written specification and current supply check.

Will luggage capacity quoted with seats folded suit seven passengers?

No such assumption is safe. Test the Tayron with every seat you need occupied and your normal luggage loaded. A maximum folded-seat figure answers a different question from the space left during a seven-person trip.

Does the Tayron eHybrid need regular charging?

A dependable charging routine is central to assessing its practical case. Discuss home and workplace access, days away and the petrol use expected on longer journeys. The plug-in system does not make the vehicle a pure-electric car.

Why compare Tayron with Sorento and Santa Fe?

They address a similar additional-passenger family-SUV task. Compare the precise UK seat layout, powertrain and load requirements in each. A shared seven-seat description does not prove equal access, luggage space or child-seat compatibility.

How should I compare Tayron leasing quotations?

Keep seat configuration, engine output, drivetrain, packs, term, annual mileage, initial rental and maintenance consistent. Identify which differences are equipment choices and which change the vehicle’s fundamental passenger or charging suitability.

What is the Tayron eHybrid tax issue over a longer agreement?

Conditional plug-in bands can change materially across tax years, reaching 18% in 2028/29 and 19% in 2029/30 for qualifying 1-50 g/km cars. Confirm the supplied car’s certification and any easement, plus VED, supplement and planned eVED treatment.
