Intelligent Vehicle Finance helps you choose an electric Ford Capri lease around battery version, passengers and charging access. Compare the current coupe-shaped SUV with the Explorer and Mustang Mach-E, then confirm the exact model year. Business and personal quotations should reflect your mileage, equipment needs and the complete contract terms.
The modern Capri is an electric coupe-shaped SUV. Treat its name as a starting point for a contemporary family-car decision, not a description of the historic petrol coupe. Its appeal is the combination of a distinctive profile and an everyday passenger role. A business driver should test the seating, controls and charging routine on a normal working journey; a family should give equal attention to the rear seats and loading opening.
The important trade-off is between appearance and the shape of the space you use. Check rear headroom for the tallest regular passenger, rearward visibility and the items that must pass beneath the tailgate. An attractive silhouette does not tell you whether a bulky case fits. Equally, do not reject the car on photographs alone if the load floor and seating work for your actual needs.
The Explorer is the closest Ford comparison for a driver considering a different SUV shape. The Mustang Mach-E brings another electric Ford proposition, with a different cabin and derivative range. Compare all three on the same passenger and charging brief. Capri is not the answer if you require a combustion engine or cannot make an electric charging routine practical within your journeys.
Three electric Fords for different passenger briefs
| Model or route | Why compare it | Decision to resolve |
|---|---|---|
| Ford Capri | Coupe-shaped electric SUV | Try rear headroom and the loading opening with your normal luggage. |
| Ford Explorer | Alternative electric SUV shape | Assess seating access and cabin operation on the same daily route. |
| Ford Mustang Mach-E | A separate electric Ford range | Compare drivetrain, controls and model-year-specific battery data. |
This is a comparison of vehicle roles, not a promise of current supply. Ask IVF to confirm the exact derivative and contract before deciding.
The IVF grid checked on 28 September includes 52 kWh and 58 kWh Standard Range descriptions, plus Extended Range entries labelled 77 kWh and 79 kWh. It also distinguishes RWD from AWD and offers several equipment-pack combinations. That mix needs model-year reconciliation before you compare specifications. The current Ford UK price list is dated 1 April 2026; an older row is not automatically the same vehicle with a different name.
In that document, Standard Range RWD uses a 58 kWh usable-capacity reference, Extended Range RWD uses 79 kWh, and Extended Range AWD uses 77 kWh. Capacity alone does not establish the drivetrain or the range certification. Ask IVF for the full derivative and the corresponding Ford specification, especially when a grid label differs from a current brochure. Do not combine one battery’s charging figure with another drivetrain’s consumption.
Style, Select, Collection and Premium answer equipment and appearance preferences. Ford’s current document separately identifies Comfort and Driver Assistance packs and a heat-pump option. A premium-sounding badge does not settle whether a particular pack is fitted. Write your essential functions into the request and ask for each to be confirmed on the quoted car. This is particularly useful when comparing vehicles from different production periods.
Begin with your normal overnight parking. A home charger needs a suitable installation, permissions where relevant and an electricity arrangement that you understand. Workplace charging can be useful, but access shared with colleagues may not be dependable at the end of every day. Map a fallback charging point near your routine rather than assume the preferred socket will always be free.
Then test the longer journey that puts most pressure on the car. Use a route planner with realistic motorway stops, allow for winter conditions and decide how much arrival charge you want. A laboratory range figure is a comparison measure; speed, temperature, luggage and battery condition affect your result. This pack does not apply a single advertised maximum to the mixed model years in IVF’s grid.
Extended Range is worth discussing when it changes a journey you regularly make. AWD answers a different traction and performance question, and should not be assumed to deliver the longest distance merely because it is a higher specification. Ask about the supplied wheels, battery pre-conditioning and charger compatibility. For shared company cars, agree who plugs in, how public charging is paid for and how the next driver receives the car.
Ford’s adjustable SYNC Move screen is a feature to test, not simply to count. Sit in your normal driving position and check whether the display, storage and controls work together for you. Pair the type of phone you use, assess navigation with your usual charging destinations and have the driver-assistance controls demonstrated. Any connected service can have its own activation or subscription terms.
A school run or client visit may involve repeated loading rather than one long trip. Test the tailgate, rear door access and visibility while parking. Ask whether the exact car has the equipment that makes those tasks easier, including any camera or assistance pack you regard as essential. Optional equipment in a brochure photograph should never be treated as standard on an unconfirmed vehicle.
Ford’s base vehicle and high-voltage battery cover have different time and mileage limits. The published base warranty is three years or 60,000 miles and battery cover is eight years or 100,000 miles, subject to the terms. A longer or high-mileage lease needs those limits compared with your planned use. Maintenance, tyres, accidental damage and insurance remain separate questions for the written agreement.
The Capri is a zero-emission company-car choice, so the electric BiK path applies when provided to an employee or director with private use. Its lease rental and taxable benefit are different calculations; compare the P11D of the exact trim and options.
For an employee or director with private use, the taxable benefit normally starts with the car’s P11D value multiplied by the applicable BiK percentage. Personal tax then depends on the individual’s income tax rate and any relevant adjustments. The percentage is not the tax rate applied to the lease rental. A sole trader’s own business car use follows different rules.
The agreement can cross several tax years. Compare the whole path, not just the percentage in the year the car arrives.
Company-car BiK benchmarks, 2026/27 to 2029/30
| Tax specification | 2026/27 | 2027/28 | 2028/29 | 2029/30 |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Zero-emission electric car | 4% | 5% | 7% | 9% |
Use our company-car BiK guide alongside HMRC’s 2026/27 and 2027/28 tables and the published 2028/29 and 2029/30 changes. Tax information checked 28 September 2026 against the C1 ledger and its primary sources. Tax treatment depends on individual circumstances and may change; consult your accountant.
Vehicle Excise Duty (VED). For 2026/27, the standard annual VED payment after the first year is £200 before any supplement. First-year VED depends on CO2 and registration rules; zero-emission cars currently have a £10 first-year rate. These cash rates apply to 2026/27 only; later annual VED rates are not confirmed here. Ask how the funder treats tax increases during your agreement.
Expensive Car Supplement. The Expensive Car Supplement is £440 a year in 2026/27 for five years from the second licence. The list-price threshold is more than £40,000 for petrol, diesel and hybrid cars, or more than £50,000 for qualifying zero-emission cars registered from 1 April 2025. Use the published list price before discounts, including relevant options, and check the registration date. Plug-in hybrids do not receive the electric-car threshold. GOV.UK explains VED and the supplement.
Planned eVED. The government plans Electric Vehicle Excise Duty (eVED) from April 2028, alongside VED: 3p per mile for electric cars and 1.5p per mile for plug-in hybrids. This is proposed for April 2028, subject to legislation and implementation; it is not a charge currently in force. The stated rates are planned starting rates, with CPI uprating proposed from 2029/30 and later cash rates not confirmed. An agreement spanning introduction needs the funder’s written treatment of the charge and later changes. Check the government’s consultation response and final implementation guidance before committing.
VAT-registered businesses can normally reclaim 50% of the VAT on qualifying car rentals where private use is available, depending on circumstances and the normal VAT rules. Full rental-VAT recovery requires exclusive business use with no private availability. Maintenance can fall outside the rental block when it is genuinely optional, separately described in the contract and separately quantified on the invoice; recovery remains subject to normal VAT rules. Read HMRC’s motoring VAT guidance.
A zero-emission car is not subject to the CO2-based lease-rental restriction. Check HMRC’s car-hire deduction rules.
For accounting periods beginning on or after 1 January 2026, revised FRS 102 generally requires a right-of-use asset and lease liability for lessees, including small companies using Section 1A. FRS 105 lease accounting for eligible micro-entities was not changed in the same way. Contract hire therefore does not universally keep a car off the balance sheet. Ask your accountant to apply the right framework; HMRC summarises the accounting standards.
Flat Rate Scheme users generally cannot reclaim VAT on recurring car-hire payments. Ask your accountant which VAT regime applies before using the recovery examples above.
Tell IVF your annual mileage, regular passengers, essential equipment, charging access where relevant and preferred timing. Ask for the precise model year, derivative, options and registration status to be written into the quotation. The catalogue is a starting point; the offered vehicle and funder terms need confirmation.
Business Contract Hire is taken by the business; Personal Contract Hire is taken by the private individual. Both are subject to status and individual funder criteria. Compare the initial rental, term, mileage, maintenance and applicable fees on the same basis. An initial rental is part of the hire cost, not refundable security or ownership equity.
A manufacturer warranty starts under the supplied car’s warranty terms, normally from first registration. Its time and mileage limits may finish before your lease does. It is separate from optional servicing and tyre cover. Confirm maintenance inclusions, insurance responsibilities, tax provisions and early-termination terms before signing.
At the end of contract hire, return the vehicle; there is no contractual purchase option. Excess mileage, damage beyond the funder’s fair wear and tear standard, missing equipment or other contractual charges may still be payable. Check the return process before choosing your agreement.

The UK Capri covered here is the battery-electric coupe-shaped SUV. It is not the historic petrol coupe. If you need a car without external charging, explain that requirement to IVF before building a Capri quotation.
The live grid contains different battery and model-year descriptions. Ford’s current April 2026 UK document uses 58 kWh for Standard Range RWD. Ask for the exact year and Ford specification so an older listing is not given newer-car figures.
No. Ford’s current document separates 79 kWh Extended Range RWD from 77 kWh Extended Range AWD. Check the drivetrain as well as the usable-capacity reference; neither the battery label nor trim name alone identifies the complete car.
Style, Select, Collection and Premium appear in the April 2026 UK price list. The grid includes several pack combinations and older entries. Have the equipment on the quoted vehicle confirmed individually instead of relying on a badge.
Do not assume that. Ford’s cited UK document lists a heat pump as an option. Check the actual car and how it fits your winter use, alongside pre-conditioning and dependable access to charging.
Yes, if you are choosing an electric Ford for passengers and luggage. Try the rear seats, tailgate opening and cabin controls in each. The Capri’s coupe-shaped profile and the Explorer’s different body shape should be judged against your own load.
No. The captured grid spans different batteries, drivetrains and model years. Obtain the WLTP figure for the offered specification, including wheels and options, and allow for the effect of weather, speed and load on real journeys.
For a zero-emission company car it is 4%, 5%, 7% and 9% from 2026/27 through 2029/30. These percentages determine the taxable benefit using P11D value; your personal tax also depends on your income tax rate and circumstances.
Use the same term, annual mileage, initial rental and maintenance basis, then check model year and options. The live grid shows rental figures, while a written quotation should explain the full schedule and any applicable fees or return charges.
No. Ford states separate base vehicle and battery cover. The published limits are three years or 60,000 miles for the base car and eight years or 100,000 miles for the battery, each subject to terms.
