Intelligent Vehicle Finance helps you compare Honda CR-V leasing around full-hybrid or plug-in hybrid use. The current UK CR-V is a five-seat SUV, with different charging and tax considerations between powertrains. Choose from your journey pattern first, then confirm the precise grade, model year and certification behind the quotation.
The important CR-V decision sits in the powertrain suffix. e:HEV describes the full hybrid, while e:PHEV identifies the plug-in version. Both use petrol and electric systems, but they ask different things of the driver. If you cannot reliably plug in, that is a strong reason to investigate the full hybrid before trying to justify the plug-in on a tax figure alone.
Honda UK’s current CR-V information describes a five-seat SUV. It does not solve a regular seven-seat requirement. If the extra row is essential, say so early so IVF can redirect the shortlist. If five seats are enough, assess whether the CR-V’s passenger and luggage layout is useful to you or whether a ZR-V or Civic could fulfil the task in a different format.

Choosing the right passenger vehicle for your use
| Model or route | Reason to consider it | Question to settle |
|---|---|---|
| Honda CR-V | Five-seat SUV with full-hybrid and plug-in choices | Can you charge regularly, and which specification is actually offered? |
| Honda ZR-V | Alternative Honda SUV task | Would its passenger and luggage layout cover the same daily needs? |
| Honda Civic | Hatchback comparison for drivers open to a different body | Is an SUV seating position essential to the brief? |
The live capture on 28 September 2026 showed e:HEV Elegance, Elegance Sensing and Advance descriptions, alongside e:PHEV Advance Tech and Elegance Tech entries. Some plug-in rows carry an NI suffix and materially different CO2 labels. Those distinctions must be resolved with the supplier; a short catalogue label cannot establish the registration or certification treatment for a particular customer.
Honda’s UK specification page and its April 2026 plug-in price document do not match every catalogue label in a simple one-to-one table. The document identifies an Advance Tech plug-in specification, while the grid has additional entries. Treat this as a model-year and market-specification check, not a reason to assume that every grade listed online is currently available in the same form.
Ask IVF for the complete derivative code, the intended registration market, the relevant UK technical sheet and an equipment schedule. Where the catalogue emissions differ from a manufacturer document, obtain the certificate information that applies to the actual supplied car. Do not select whichever figure produces a more attractive company-car calculation.
Keep the quoted grade separate from the demonstrator. A useful feature experienced on a test drive may belong to a different trim or pack. Confirm that the seats, cameras, assistance systems and cabin equipment you value are explicitly included before agreeing the vehicle specification.
The e:HEV does not depend on an external charging routine. That can be useful for drivers whose parking or work pattern makes plugging in difficult. It still needs petrol, and its certified emissions place it on a different tax path from a zero-emission car. Calling it a hybrid does not give it the electric company-car percentage.
If all-wheel drive is part of the brief, reconcile it with the exact e:HEV grade being offered. Honda’s specification page identifies AWD full-hybrid examples, but that does not establish the drivetrain of every plug-in or catalogue variant. Make the required traction layout explicit instead of assuming that a CR-V badge always brings the same arrangement.
For e:PHEV, useful battery operation begins with a dependable place to charge. Establish permissions, installation requirements and access hours before relying on home or work charging. If several people share the car, decide who will plug it in and how the next driver will know its state of charge. A technically capable car can be inconvenient if that routine is unresolved.
The correct electric-distance figure must come from the documentation for the offered derivative. This guide deliberately avoids transferring a single headline range across the grid’s different model and certification labels. Test conditions, wheels, temperature, motorway speed and heating can all affect the distance available in practice.
Set up the CR-V for the way it will normally be driven, with the driver’s seat and any child restraints in place. Ask rear passengers to try the seat and doorway, then load the bags that travel most often. A large seats-folded volume is not the relevant measure when those seats need to carry people.
Check the boot opening with a pushchair, work case or other awkward item. Decide where the charging cable will live on a plug-in car and whether the luggage cover can remain in place with your normal load. If you travel with pets, assess the secure carrying arrangement rather than inferring suitability from a general family-SUV description.
Honda’s current UK warranty page separates the standard three-year manufacturer warranty from a service-activated extension, subject to qualifying servicing and its conditions. Confirm the actual car’s cover and mileage limits in writing. An extension described as available up to a maximum age is not an unconditional promise that every leased CR-V is covered for that period.
If the CR-V feels larger than your daily task requires, ZR-V is a relevant Honda SUV comparison. Civic is useful when you are open to a hatchback rather than committed to an SUV seating position. Test the real passenger and luggage tasks in each, then compare the proposed vehicles on equivalent contract terms.
The captured CR-V plug-in rows show differing emissions labels, so no automatic band is assigned here. Use certified data and any qualifying HMRC easement. Full-hybrid CR-V examples sit on the CO2 path rather than the zero-emission path.
For employee or director private use, establish the CR-V’s P11D and relevant percentage to calculate the benefit before applying personal income-tax circumstances. Resolve the NI and CO2 labels first. Do not mistake the percentage for tax on the monthly hire payment; sole-trader use follows different rules.
Company-car BiK benchmarks, 2026/27 to 2029/30
| Tax specification | 2026/27 | 2027/28 | 2028/29 | 2029/30 |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Qualifying PHEV: 1-50 g/km, certified electric range 40-69 miles | 10% | 11% | 18% | 19% |
| Full hybrid at certified 150-154 g/km | 36% | 36% | 37% | 38% |
These are conditional tax bands, not assigned rates for every Honda CR-V. Confirm the supplied car’s P11D, certified CO2, fuel type and registration date. Diesel supplements can apply where the required emissions certification is absent, subject to the annual maximum.
The electric-mile figures above are HMRC band thresholds, not promises of this car’s driving range. Newer plug-in hybrid certification can show more than 50 g/km. A temporary company-car easement may treat an eligible car as 1 g/km where the registration date, electric range and Euro-status conditions are met; it is not automatic and must not be transferred to lease-rental deductions. Check the vehicle documents and HMRC’s plug-in hybrid conditions with your accountant.
Use our company-car BiK guide alongside HMRC’s 2026/27 and 2027/28 tables and the published 2028/29 and 2029/30 changes. Tax information checked 28 September 2026 against the C1 ledger and its primary sources. Tax treatment depends on individual circumstances and may change; consult your accountant.
Vehicle Excise Duty (VED). For a Honda CR-V taxed as a car, the 2026/27 standard annual payment after its first year is £200, before supplements. First-year VED follows its emissions and registration rules. Later annual cash rates are not confirmed here. Check the funder’s treatment of increases.
Expensive Car Supplement. In 2026/27 the supplement is £440 annually for five years starting with the second licence. The threshold is a list price above £40,000 for a petrol, diesel or hybrid car; qualifying zero-emission cars registered from 1 April 2025 use £50,000. Options and registration date matter, and discounts do not lower the list-price test. See GOV.UK’s VED rules.
Planned eVED. From April 2028 the government plans an additional mileage charge: 3p per mile for battery-electric cars and 1.5p for plug-in hybrids, subject to legislation and implementation. CPI uprating is planned from 2029/30; later cash rates are not fixed here. The non-plug-in or diesel alternative is outside those categories. Ask how the agreement will handle this future cost and check the eVED consultation response.

VAT-registered businesses can normally reclaim 50% of the VAT on qualifying car rentals where private use is available, depending on circumstances and the normal VAT rules. Full rental-VAT recovery requires exclusive business use with no private availability. Maintenance can fall outside the rental block when it is genuinely optional, separately described in the contract and separately quantified on the invoice; recovery remains subject to normal VAT rules. Read HMRC’s motoring VAT guidance.
The hire-cost rules normally disallow 15% of otherwise deductible rentals for cars above 50 g/km, subject to their scope and exceptions. A company-car BiK easement does not establish relief from this restriction. Check HMRC’s car-hire deduction rules.
For accounting periods beginning on or after 1 January 2026, revised FRS 102 generally requires a right-of-use asset and lease liability for lessees, including small companies using Section 1A. FRS 105 lease accounting for eligible micro-entities was not changed in the same way. Contract hire therefore does not universally keep a car off the balance sheet. Ask your accountant to apply the right framework; HMRC summarises the accounting standards.
Flat Rate Scheme users generally cannot reclaim VAT on recurring car-hire payments. Ask your accountant which VAT regime applies before using the recovery examples above.
Tell IVF your annual mileage, regular passengers, essential equipment, charging access where relevant and preferred timing. Ask for the precise model year, derivative, options and registration status to be written into the quotation. The catalogue is a starting point; the offered vehicle and funder terms need confirmation.
Business Contract Hire is taken by the business; Personal Contract Hire is taken by the private individual. Both are subject to status and individual funder criteria. Compare the initial rental, term, mileage, maintenance and applicable fees on the same basis. An initial rental is part of the hire cost, not refundable security or ownership equity.
A manufacturer warranty starts under the supplied car’s warranty terms, normally from first registration. Its time and mileage limits may finish before your lease does. It is separate from optional servicing and tyre cover. Confirm maintenance inclusions, insurance responsibilities, tax provisions and early-termination terms before signing.
At the end of contract hire, return the vehicle; there is no contractual purchase option. Excess mileage, damage beyond the funder’s fair wear and tear standard, missing equipment or other contractual charges may still be payable. Check the return process before choosing your agreement.

e:HEV is the full hybrid and does not require external charging. e:PHEV is the plug-in hybrid, which should be assessed around regular charging access. They have different technical and company-car tax considerations.
Honda’s current UK CR-V information describes five seats. If a third row is essential, give IVF that requirement before shortlisting. For five-seat use, try rear access and the actual luggage load in the proposed car.
The capture includes e:HEV Elegance, Elegance Sensing and Advance, plus e:PHEV Advance Tech and Elegance Tech descriptions. Some plug-in rows have an NI suffix. Confirm the model year, market and exact equipment for any quotation.
The catalogue contains different certification labels, including NI entries. Obtain the actual car’s registration and technical documents rather than assuming the figures are interchangeable. The correct tax treatment follows those documents and the applicable HMRC conditions.
Do not assume so. Honda’s UK specification page identifies AWD full-hybrid examples, while the plug-in requires its own specification check. State any all-wheel-drive requirement when enquiring and verify it on the offered derivative.
Consider reliable charging and the driver’s normal journeys, then calculate the benefit across the term using certified CO2 and electric range. Do not apply a low-emission band automatically where the quoted car’s documentation remains unresolved.
Use the same powertrain, grade, registration specification, mileage, term, initial rental and maintenance basis. The grid displays prices, but the written quotation needs to resolve different model-year and certification descriptions.
It retains a petrol system, but choosing a plug-in without a workable charging routine may undermine the reason for selecting it. Compare the full hybrid against your usage before deciding. Do not base expected consumption on an idealised charged-battery test.
Honda publishes a standard three-year manufacturer warranty and separate service-activated extension conditions. Verify the particular car’s mileage limits, registration date and eligibility. Routine servicing and lease maintenance remain separate arrangements.
Yes, if five seats meet the brief and you are reconsidering size or body style. Test passenger access and luggage in each. Choose the CR-V for a requirement it demonstrably meets, not merely because its model name is familiar.
