Intelligent Vehicle Finance helps you compare Kia Stonic business and personal leasing. Kia UK currently presents Stonic, while IVF’s catalogue includes petrol and 48V-labelled entries across different trims. A mild hybrid is not a plug-in or electric car. Confirm generation, engine and gearbox, then assess the crossover against your daily passenger and luggage needs.
Stonic belongs on a shortlist when the task calls for a petrol crossover and its seating and luggage arrangement suit regular staff or household journeys. The important first step is to identify the car behind the catalogue description. IVF’s route carries several trim and powertrain labels, including 48V entries, so an enquiry for “a Stonic automatic” is not yet a sufficiently precise specification.
We would look at a separate electric model if charging and zero-tailpipe-emission operation are central to the business brief. We would also test a larger carrying solution if adults and bulky luggage fill the car frequently. A crossover can be a sensible town and inter-site vehicle without being the answer to every passenger or equipment requirement.
| Model | Useful role | Main decision |
|---|---|---|
| Kia Stonic | Petrol or mild-hybrid crossover enquiry | Resolve generation, 48V label and gearbox |
| Kia Picanto | Separate petrol city-car role | Test whether the smaller layout meets the load brief |
| Kia EV2 | Battery-electric alternative | Confirm charging and the actual cabin arrangement |
A mild-hybrid label is not an electric-car specification. These routes help separate body requirements from the energy decision.
Kia’s UK site currently presents Stonic, with Pure, GT-Line and GT-Line S in its equipment table. The manufacturer’s current drivetrain section describes a 98 bhp petrol manual or DCT reference, while other page sections include mild-hybrid labels. IVF’s table also spans several descriptions. These sources need to be matched to the exact vehicle, not combined into one imaginary specification.
The named model’s current presence in the UK range is separate from supply of an individual derivative. Ask IVF for the generation, model year and full equipment schedule of any proposed car. Where an older numbered grade appears, keep it distinct from a newer name even when the advertised engine size looks similar.
The captured catalogue contains 48V-labelled Stonic entries, including 113 GT-Line and GT-Line S descriptions and other 98 or numbered-grade combinations. That label describes a mild-hybrid enquiry, not a car that should be planned around plugging in for an electric commute. Do not apply a battery-electric company-car percentage or a plug-in range assumption to it.
If the reason for choosing a hybrid is to change your company-car tax position, check the certified CO2 of the actual car rather than the badge. If the reason is the driving experience, try the supplied powertrain. Kia EV2 is the separate electric comparison; its operating arrangements and tax category require a different assessment.
Pure appears in the captured table with 98-labelled manual and DCT descriptions. GT-Line and GT-Line S appear across further powertrain labels, so choosing the trim still leaves other decisions open. Some descriptions are repeated in the live list; that does not establish separate usable specifications without the underlying vehicle details.
For a business car, decide which parking, lighting and cabin functions the driver needs and have them confirmed individually. For private use, try the seat and controls in the version you prefer. A styling grade can be a reasonable preference, but it should not substitute for checking the equipment that will matter on ordinary journeys.
Kia’s 98 bhp reference identifies a six-speed manual and a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. IVF also lists DCT on particular 48V entries. Keep the engine and transmission together when requesting a proposal, because the gearbox badge alone does not settle which powertrain or generation is being offered.
Use the test drive to assess slow traffic, reversing and the route out of your regular parking place. If staff members share the car, make sure the controls suit the intended users. The objective is a specification they can operate comfortably, with a clear handover and no assumption that all automatic cars behave in the same way.
The UK 98 bhp reference quotes 352 litres with the rear seats upright. That is the relevant starting arrangement when passengers need to sit behind the driver. The larger folded-seat figure describes another use of the cabin. A work bag that fits with a seat folded does not prove the same journey works with a colleague occupying it.
Bring the items that travel repeatedly and check the loading aperture, floor and securing points. Try rear access with the front seat set for the normal driver. For a household, include the child restraints and shopping pattern; for business, include the samples or equipment that cannot be left behind. Use dimensions as a guide to a trial, not as a replacement for it.
Picanto is useful when you want to test whether a petrol city car can already perform the local-travel task. Its smaller-car role is separate from Stonic’s crossover brief. Compare actual access, luggage fit and the selected gearbox, rather than moving between the two solely on the basis of their trim names.
EV2 is the Kia alternative when the question is electric operation. Work out where charging would happen and assess its seating and load arrangement separately. If the Stonic enquiry arose from a 48V badge, this comparison is especially helpful: a mild hybrid and a battery-electric car are different operating decisions.
Include the engine output label, whether the entry says 48V, the trim, manual or DCT requirement and essential equipment in the request to IVF. Add total mileage and the agreement holder, then ask for supply and registration details. Compare maintenance, insurance responsibilities and the funder’s treatment of tax changes alongside the complete rental schedule.
A Stonic mild-hybrid badge does not qualify the car for the zero-emission BiK path. The certified CO2 and P11D remain central, and the precise engine and gearbox can matter. The conditional petrol bands below show the multi-year movement without assigning a single rate to the mixed catalogue.
The usual employee benefit begins with the actual Stonic P11D and tax-year percentage, followed by the driver’s income-tax calculation. Include the relevant options and distinguish employer costs from employee tax. Shared use and a sole trader’s own business travel each require their own assessment rather than a borrowed company-car example.
| Tax specification | 2026/27 | 2027/28 | 2028/29 | 2029/30 |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Petrol: certified 125-129 g/km | 31% | 31% | 32% | 33% |
| Petrol: certified 130-134 g/km | 32% | 32% | 33% | 34% |
| Petrol: certified 135-139 g/km | 33% | 33% | 34% | 35% |
These are conditional tax bands, not assigned rates for every Kia Stonic. Confirm the supplied car’s P11D, certified CO2, fuel type and registration date. Diesel supplements can apply where the required emissions certification is absent, subject to the annual maximum.
Use our company-car BiK guide alongside HMRC’s 2026/27 and 2027/28 tables and the published 2028/29 and 2029/30 changes. Tax information checked 24 September 2026 against the C1 ledger and its primary sources. Tax treatment depends on individual circumstances and may change; consult your accountant.
Vehicle Excise Duty (VED). For 2026/27, the standard annual VED payment after the first year is £200 before any supplement. First-year VED depends on CO2 and registration rules; zero-emission cars currently have a £10 first-year rate. These cash rates apply to 2026/27 only; later annual VED rates are not confirmed here. Ask how the funder treats tax increases during your agreement.
Expensive Car Supplement. The Expensive Car Supplement is currently £440 a year for five years from the second licence. The list-price threshold is more than £40,000 for petrol, diesel and hybrid cars, or more than £50,000 for qualifying zero-emission cars registered from 1 April 2025. Use the published list price before discounts, including relevant options, and check the registration date. Plug-in hybrids do not receive the electric-car threshold. GOV.UK explains VED and the supplement.
Planned eVED. The government plans Electric Vehicle Excise Duty (eVED) from April 2028, alongside VED: 3p per mile for electric cars and 1.5p per mile for plug-in hybrids. This is proposed for April 2028, subject to legislation and implementation; it is not a charge currently in force. The stated rates are planned starting rates, with CPI uprating proposed from 2029/30 and later cash rates not confirmed. An agreement spanning introduction needs the funder’s written treatment of the charge and later changes. Check the government’s consultation response and final implementation guidance before committing. The Kia Stonic powertrain discussed here is outside those planned electric and plug-in hybrid categories.
VAT-registered businesses can normally reclaim 50% of the VAT on qualifying car rentals where private use is available, depending on circumstances and the normal VAT rules. Full rental-VAT recovery requires exclusive business use with no private availability. Maintenance can fall outside the rental block when it is genuinely optional, separately described in the contract and separately quantified on the invoice; recovery remains subject to normal VAT rules. Read HMRC’s motoring VAT guidance.
Businesses using the VAT Flat Rate Scheme do not normally recover input VAT on recurring car hire. The separate capital-goods exception does not turn hire invoices into a vehicle purchase. Check HMRC’s Flat Rate Scheme guidance.
The hire-cost rules normally disallow 15% of otherwise deductible rentals for cars above 50 g/km, subject to their scope and exceptions. A company-car BiK easement does not establish relief from this restriction. Check HMRC’s car-hire deduction rules.
For accounting periods beginning on or after 1 January 2026, revised FRS 102 generally requires a right-of-use asset and lease liability for lessees, including small companies using Section 1A. FRS 105 lease accounting for eligible micro-entities was not changed in the same way. Contract hire therefore does not universally keep a car off the balance sheet. Ask your accountant to apply the right framework; HMRC summarises the accounting standards.
Tell IVF your annual mileage, regular passengers, essential equipment, charging access where relevant and preferred timing. Ask for the precise model year, derivative, options and registration status to be written into the quotation. The catalogue is a starting point; the offered vehicle and funder terms need confirmation.
Business Contract Hire is taken by the business; Personal Contract Hire is taken by the private individual. Both are subject to status and individual funder criteria. Compare the initial rental, term, mileage, maintenance and applicable fees on the same basis. An initial rental is part of the hire cost, not refundable security or ownership equity.
A manufacturer warranty starts under the supplied car’s warranty terms, normally from first registration. Its time and mileage limits may finish before your lease does. It is separate from optional servicing and tyre cover. Confirm maintenance inclusions, insurance responsibilities, tax provisions and early-termination terms before signing.
At the end of contract hire, return the vehicle; there is no contractual purchase option. Excess mileage, damage beyond the funder’s fair wear and tear standard, missing equipment or other contractual charges may still be payable. Check the return process before choosing your agreement.
Use Kia model range, Kia EV2, Kia Picanto, company-car BiK guide, request a callback to narrow your choice or discuss a quotation.
Yes. State who will take the agreement and give the full engine, 48V where applicable, trim and gearbox description. IVF can assess suitable proposals, with status, criteria and the exact vehicle’s supply checked separately.
Yes. Kia UK’s current site presents Stonic at the September 2026 check. That supports a current-model enquiry but does not prove that each older or newer catalogue derivative is available through IVF.
No. The 48V entries concern mild-hybrid powertrains. Do not plan a plug-in electric commute or apply a battery-electric company-car percentage on that basis. Check the actual vehicle’s certified emissions and operating instructions.
The captured table includes Pure, GT-Line, GT-Line S and numbered 2 and 3 descriptions. Engine and 48V labels vary, so establish generation and equipment before comparing proposals carrying similar trim names.
No. IVF lists GT-Line across different petrol and 48V-labelled descriptions. Include the engine output wording and transmission in your request; the styling grade alone does not identify the vehicle.
DCT appears on specific catalogue entries, and Kia’s 98 bhp reference uses a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. Confirm the exact engine and generation with it, then assess its behaviour during your usual manoeuvres.
The folded-seat figure describes a different cabin arrangement. Use the upright-seat reference when passengers need the rear seats, and test the real luggage and equipment rather than relying only on litres.
Picanto tests whether a petrol city-car layout is sufficient for the local-travel task. Stonic should earn its place through the seating, access or carrying arrangement you need, rather than the crossover label alone.
It is a separate Kia electric route to assess when charging is practical and electric operation is part of the brief. Check the actual EV2’s seating, load space and supply independently from the Stonic catalogue.
Generation, powertrain, grade, gearbox, options, annual mileage, term, initial rental and maintenance influence the proposal. Compare the complete vehicle and agreement, with tax provisions and return charges clearly understood.
