Kia makes the shortlist unusually broad. A business replacing staff cars may need a compact electric hatchback, while a director needs space for children and luggage at the weekend. Begin with those separate tasks. Choosing every driver’s car from the same trim level can conceal differences in battery, seats and charging that matter throughout the agreement.
For a private household, make the first comparison at the driveway and with the passengers who will travel. Picanto, Sportage and EV9 cannot be judged sensibly by a single rental figure. Record the required body, seats, annual mileage and any access limitations before comparing written proposals. IVF can then check the suitable versions through its funder panel. A model appearing in the catalogue is a useful route into that conversation, not proof of an allocated car.
IVF provides a named specialist and free UK delivery, with the date confirmed for the chosen vehicle. Enquiries and quotations carry no charge or obligation. Ask about suitable two-, three- or four-year terms; the available agreement depends on the car and funder.
| Model line | Body and powertrain | What to decide |
|---|---|---|
| Picanto | Petrol city hatchback | Check parking fit, transmission and rear-passenger needs. |
| Stonic | Petrol compact crossover | Try access and luggage before selecting equipment. |
| K4 | Petrol / mild-hybrid hatchback | Current Ceed successor; a 48V label does not mean it plugs in. |
| Ceed | Legacy hatchback / Sportswagon | No longer in the current UK new-car range; confirm residual supply. |
| ProCeed | Legacy shooting brake | Absent from the current range; identify a specific remaining car. |
| XCeed | Raised petrol crossover | Different access and shape from K4; choose the actual gearbox. |
| Niro | Hybrid, PHEV and electric catalogue entries | Confirm generation and whether the offered car requires charging. |
| Sportage | Petrol, hybrid or PHEV SUV | Set family load and charging routine before trim. |
| Sorento | Seven-seat SUV; hybrid/PHEV and diesel listings | Establish the supplied seats, engine and any towing approval. |
| EV2 | Compact electric SUV | Check UK specification, battery and actual allocation. |
| EV3 | Compact electric SUV | A daily-use EV shortlist; battery choice follows the regular journey. |
| EV4 | Electric hatchback / Fastback | Name the body explicitly and test rear access. |
| EV5 | Electric family SUV | Assess rear cabin and load needs beside EV3 and EV6. |
| EV6 | Electric crossover | Separate battery generation and GT from GT-Line equipment. |
| EV9 | Large electric SUV | Require the intended six- or seven-seat configuration. |
| PV5 Passenger | Electric passenger vehicle | Passenger use only here; identify seating and appropriate agreement. |
Model pages are catalogue routes, not confirmation of stock or a delivery date. Where a line has left the current UK range, the status is stated in its row. Confirm the exact UK generation, equipment and supply in your quotation.
K4 is Kia UK’s stated replacement for Ceed. The retained Ceed route can still be useful for examining a specific hatchback or Sportswagon, but it should not be read as evidence of continuing factory-order supply. ProCeed is also absent from the current UK new-car range; its former manufacturer page redirects to XCeed. An identified remaining new car needs its own specification and availability confirmation.
The PV5 route is retained for its Passenger application in this car comparison. Specify passenger seating and use rather than borrowing Cargo specifications or commercial-vehicle tax assumptions. Likewise, Niro catalogue generations and older diesel Sorento descriptions remain separate from current manufacturer headlines. For the EV4, state hatchback or Fastback; for EV6, distinguish a GT performance car from GT-Line equipment. Those details prevent a similar badge from producing a different car when the quotation arrives.
Picanto and the conventional hatchback choices suit a refuelling routine without a charge point. A mild-hybrid label still describes a car with an engine. Full-hybrid Niro, Sportage and Sorento versions also take petrol; their electrical assistance does not make them zero-emission company cars. Compare certified emissions for the actual derivative rather than assuming all hybrids share one tax band.
A plug-in hybrid deserves a separate charging plan. It can use electricity on suitable daily journeys and petrol on longer ones, but choosing it solely because charging is difficult misses the reason for its larger rechargeable battery. Work out where the car will plug in on ordinary weekdays. For the EV range, check both routine charging and the longest repeated motorway trip. An electric badge settles the fuel type, not battery capacity, charge speed or distance between stops.
For an SME, compare a Kia staff-car policy against the actual drivers rather than assuming one powertrain fits everyone. An EV3 with dependable overnight charging and a Sportage full hybrid without it answer different operational needs. The company’s commitment, the employee’s private-use benefit and the cost of energy belong in separate columns.
Directors should compare the relevant BiK path throughout the proposed term. Electric Kias share a percentage schedule, but differing P11D values produce different benefits. For pool-car proposals, ask your adviser whether the strict exemption conditions are met; occasional shared use alone does not establish exemption.
VAT-registered businesses can normally reclaim 50% of the VAT on qualifying car rentals where private use is available, depending on circumstances and the normal VAT rules. Full rental-VAT recovery requires exclusive business use with no private availability. Maintenance can fall outside the rental block when it is genuinely optional, separately described in the contract and separately quantified on the invoice; recovery remains subject to normal VAT rules. Read HMRC’s motoring VAT guidance.
Businesses using the VAT Flat Rate Scheme do not normally recover input VAT on recurring car hire. The separate capital-goods exception does not turn hire invoices into a vehicle purchase. Check HMRC’s Flat Rate Scheme guidance.
The hire-cost rules normally disallow 15% of otherwise deductible rentals for cars above 50 g/km, subject to their scope and exceptions. A company-car BiK easement does not establish relief from this restriction. Check HMRC’s car-hire deduction rules.
For accounting periods beginning on or after 1 January 2026, revised FRS 102 generally requires a right-of-use asset and lease liability for lessees, including small companies using Section 1A. FRS 105 lease accounting for eligible micro-entities was not changed in the same way. Contract hire therefore does not universally keep a car off the balance sheet. Ask your accountant to apply the right framework; HMRC summarises the accounting standards.
Personal Contract Hire puts the agreement with you, so company-car BiK does not describe your household’s cost. For a Sorento or EV9, request the exact seat layout and try the luggage space with every required seat occupied. A third row that is suitable for occasional use may not meet the same need as regular journeys with adults and cases.
Consider the equipment you will use every week: seat adjustment, rear access, phone integration and the practical route to a charging socket. Do not move from a Sportage to an EV9 merely because the quotations seem close without checking parking and insurance. Include private trips in the mileage allowance and decide whether servicing and tyres should be managed through a maintenance package. Keep essential features separate from colours or trim preferences that you could change if supply differs.
Electric EV models and engine-equipped Kia hybrids have different company-car classifications. Use the car that will actually be supplied, with its own P11D and certified figures.
For an employee or director with private use, the taxable benefit normally starts with the car’s P11D value multiplied by the applicable BiK percentage. Personal tax then depends on the individual’s income tax rate and any relevant adjustments. The percentage is not the tax rate applied to the lease rental. A sole trader’s own business car use follows different rules.
The agreement can cross several tax years. Compare the whole path, not just the percentage in the year the car arrives.
| Tax specification | 2026/27 | 2027/28 | 2028/29 | 2029/30 |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Zero-emission electric car | 4% | 5% | 7% | 9% |
| Qualifying PHEV: 1-50 g/km; certified electric range 40-69 miles | 10% | 11% | 18% | 19% |
| Qualifying PHEV: 1-50 g/km; certified electric range 70-129 miles | 7% | 8% | 18% | 19% |
| Maximum petrol / qualifying diesel band | 37% | 37% | 38% | 39% |
These are conditional tax bands, not assigned rates for every Kia. Confirm the supplied car’s P11D, certified CO2, fuel type and registration date. Diesel supplements can apply where the required emissions certification is absent, subject to the annual maximum.
The electric-mile figures above are HMRC band thresholds, not promises of this car’s driving range. Newer plug-in hybrid certification can show more than 50 g/km. A temporary company-car easement may treat an eligible car as 1 g/km where the registration date, electric range and Euro-status conditions are met; it is not automatic and must not be transferred to lease-rental deductions. Check the vehicle documents and HMRC’s plug-in hybrid conditions with your accountant.
Use our company-car BiK guide alongside HMRC’s 2026/27 and 2027/28 tables and the published 2028/29 and 2029/30 changes. Tax information checked 24 September 2026 against the C1 ledger and its primary sources. Tax treatment depends on individual circumstances and may change; consult your accountant.
Vehicle Excise Duty (VED). For 2026/27, the standard annual VED payment after the first year is £200 before any supplement. First-year VED depends on CO2 and registration rules; zero-emission cars currently have a £10 first-year rate. These cash rates apply to 2026/27 only; later annual VED rates are not confirmed here. Ask how the funder treats tax increases during your agreement.
Expensive Car Supplement. The Expensive Car Supplement is currently £440 a year for five years from the second licence. The list-price threshold is more than £40,000 for petrol, diesel and hybrid cars, or more than £50,000 for qualifying zero-emission cars registered from 1 April 2025. Use the published list price before discounts, including relevant options, and check the registration date. Plug-in hybrids do not receive the electric-car threshold. GOV.UK explains VED and the supplement.
Planned eVED. The government plans Electric Vehicle Excise Duty (eVED) from April 2028, alongside VED: 3p per mile for electric cars and 1.5p per mile for plug-in hybrids. This is proposed for April 2028, subject to legislation and implementation; it is not a charge currently in force. The stated rates are planned starting rates, with CPI uprating proposed from 2029/30 and later cash rates not confirmed. An agreement spanning introduction needs the funder’s written treatment of the charge and later changes. Check the government’s consultation response and final implementation guidance before committing.
Kia’s EV names do not identify one common charging system. New generations and different batteries can coexist on a broker’s route. Ask for the supplied model year, battery, motor, wheel size and charging specification together. A headline figure from a newly launched version must not be assigned to an older catalogue entry with a similar name.
For an EV3 commuter, the useful starting point is the distance between dependable charging opportunities. For an EV9 carrying a full family, add the recurring long trip and the time needed at a suitable public charger. Compare electricity tariffs you can actually access, including subscriptions where relevant. Laboratory range is a comparison tool; cold weather, speed, load and battery condition change real journeys. A PHEV’s electric-mile tax band is also a certification input, not a promise of how far your Sportage will travel before its engine runs.
Kia publishes seven-year or 100,000-mile new-car cover, subject to its terms. The headline should be read alongside registration date, component-specific limits and the supplied vehicle’s service history. High annual mileage can bring a mileage ceiling forward. It is therefore inaccurate to promise that every Kia lease is covered for its entire duration simply because the calendar term is shorter than seven years.
Obtain the correct servicing schedule for the quoted petrol, hybrid or electric car. Warranty deals with eligible faults; scheduled services, tyres, accidental damage and funder return charges are different matters. If maintenance is requested, compare the actual items and exclusions, including how work is authorised. The intended use also matters to eligibility. Ask IVF to keep the manufacturer cover and the funder maintenance description separate in the proposal so you can see what happens when either one ends.
Tell IVF your annual mileage, regular passengers, essential equipment, charging access where relevant and preferred timing. Ask for the precise model year, derivative, options and registration status to be written into the quotation. The catalogue is a starting point; the offered vehicle and funder terms need confirmation.
Business Contract Hire is taken by the business; Personal Contract Hire is taken by the private individual. Both are subject to status and individual funder criteria. Compare the initial rental, term, mileage, maintenance and applicable fees on the same basis. An initial rental is part of the hire cost, not refundable security or ownership equity.
A manufacturer warranty starts under the supplied car’s warranty terms, normally from first registration. Its time and mileage limits may finish before your lease does. It is separate from optional servicing and tyre cover. Confirm maintenance inclusions, insurance responsibilities, tax provisions and early-termination terms before signing.
At the end of contract hire, return the vehicle; there is no contractual purchase option. Excess mileage, damage beyond the funder’s fair wear and tear standard, missing equipment or other contractual charges may still be payable. Check the return process before choosing your agreement.
Use business car leasing, personal contract hire, company-car tax guide, VAT on business leasing, request a callback, electric car leasing, BYD leasing, Tesla leasing, guide to company car leasing for directors to narrow your choice or discuss a quotation.
Use the same term, annual mileage and maintenance assumptions, then identify the exact body, battery or engine and equipment. A six-seat EV9, seven-seat EV9 and Sorento are different passenger propositions. Ask for written initial rental, regular rentals and applicable fees without treating the headline figure as the complete decision.
Compare Sorento with the appropriate EV9 configuration. Sorento offers a refuelling or plug-in-hybrid discussion; EV9 is electric. Require the fitted seats in the quotation and check luggage with the third row occupied. Some EV9 configurations use six seats, so the model name alone is insufficient.
A full hybrid does not require external charging. A plug-in hybrid does, if you want to use its rechargeable electric capability regularly. Both retain an engine, and neither automatically receives the zero-emission BiK rate of a battery-electric Kia.
Kia UK identifies K4 as the Ceed replacement. Ceed is no longer in the current UK new-car range. IVF retains a Ceed route for specific-vehicle enquiries, but any residual new supply must be confirmed separately rather than assumed from the presence of a listing.
Yes, for an identified remaining vehicle. ProCeed is absent from Kia UK’s current new-car range and its former manufacturer route redirects to XCeed. A current K4 or raised XCeed may answer a replacement brief, but neither should be treated as the same shooting-brake body.
No. GT-Line equipment and a GT performance derivative need their own full specifications. In an EV6 comparison, confirm motors, driven wheels, battery, tyres and insurance before assuming that similar styling means equivalent performance or running costs.
That depends on registration, mileage, component coverage, eligibility and servicing. Kia’s seven-year or 100,000-mile headline is not an unconditional lease-length guarantee. Routine maintenance and tyre cover remain separate from the manufacturer warranty and should be itemised in your quotation.
IVF arranges Business Contract Hire subject to status and individual funder criteria. Establish who will use the Kia, whether it will be available privately and whether charging is practical. Your accountant should assess VAT, allowable rentals and the exact company-car benefit over each tax year.
Yes. PCH is the private agreement route, with the car returned at the end and no contractual purchase option. Compare the passenger layout, energy costs, insurance and mileage allowance alongside the agreement, particularly when moving from a smaller hatchback to an electric family SUV.
No. This car-page comparison covers PV5 Passenger. Confirm the passenger layout, intended use and vehicle classification for the offered version. Cargo equipment and commercial-vehicle tax assumptions should not be applied to a passenger quotation.
