Intelligent Vehicle Finance helps you choose between the fully electric Leapmotor C10 and the C10 Hybrid EV range extender. They share a model name but use different energy systems and company-car tax paths. Assess charging access, long-distance journeys and the exact UK specification before comparing business or personal quotations.
The battery-electric car depends on charging for its energy. The Hybrid EV adds a petrol engine that generates electricity, with the wheels still driven by an electric motor. It can therefore retain an electric-drive feel while using petrol on a journey, but it is not a zero-emission car for company-car tax.
That distinction matters before you compare monthly quotations. A driver with dependable charging and predictable longer-trip stops may prefer to assess the pure EV first. Someone with frequent changing destinations may wish to investigate the range extender. The correct choice depends on the work the car must do, rather than on whether both versions contain the word electric in their marketing.

Choosing the right passenger vehicle for your use
| Model or route | Reason to consider it | Question to settle |
|---|---|---|
| Leapmotor C10 | SUV choice between battery-electric and range extender | Which energy system fits the longest regular journey? |
| Leapmotor B10 | Separate Leapmotor SUV alternative | Does its documented UK specification meet the same task? |
| Leapmotor T03 | Smaller urban electric-car comparison | Are your passenger and luggage needs modest enough? |
The captured grid shows 160kW electric entries labelled 70kWh, including a Life description, and 158kW Hybrid EV entries labelled 28kWh, including an NI-marked row. Manufacturer UK technical material uses more precise battery figures. Catalogue rounding is not a reason to assign specifications without checking the actual model year and derivative.
The two Hybrid EV catalogue rows also show different CO2 labels. Obtain the intended registration market and certificate data for the car being offered. Do not assume that a suffix can be ignored because the main model name is the same. Tax and equipment should be confirmed from the relevant vehicle documents, not from whichever row looks most favourable.
The current UK range-extender press information describes its own equipment package, while older electric launch material refers to an earlier electric specification. The Life badge in the live grid requires a current equipment schedule from the supplier. This page does not infer a later upgrade, battery or driver-assistance feature simply because it exists in another market.
Leapmotor’s UK Hybrid EV description explains that a petrol engine drives a generator rather than the road wheels. The driver can replenish the vehicle using electricity and petrol, but the proportion used depends on journeys and charging habits. A long combined-distance headline should never be mistaken for the distance available from the battery alone.
The practical case begins with regular charging. If you can replenish the battery during normal parking time, assess how much of your repeated travel can use that energy. If plugging in would be rare, investigate the petrol-running behaviour and costs rather than assuming the plug-in’s weighted test consumption predicts your week.
The battery-electric version is the clearer starting point if you want to remove petrol from the journey routine. It also uses the zero-emission company-car path rather than the plug-in path. That does not by itself decide the overall cost: the lease terms, charging tariffs, annual distance and arrangements between employer and driver still need comparing.
This guide does not assign a single driving range or charging duration to the mixed IVF electric entries. Request the precise UK specification for the offered model year and wheels. Then allow for cold weather, faster roads and the passenger load. If a regular route depends on using every theoretical mile, revise the plan before committing.
A C10 buyer may be attracted by its cabin presentation and technology. Give equal attention to how people and luggage use the space. Position the driver’s seat normally, try rear access and load the bags that travel most often. Check how a child restraint affects the adjacent seating position and whether passengers can reach their belts easily.
Spend time with the everyday controls during a demonstration. Find demisting, mirror adjustment, climate control and the functions you use without thinking in your present car. Test your phone and the specific connectivity features you need, because a broad infotainment description does not settle compatibility with your device or the supplied software.
Leapmotor’s UK C10 material states a four-year or 60,000-mile vehicle warranty and separate eight-year or 100,000-mile battery cover, subject to terms and whichever limit is reached first. Check the supplied vehicle’s warranty document, particularly where the powertrain or model year differs from the press specification. Routine servicing and consumables are different obligations.
A high-mileage business driver should compare those mileage limits with the expected distance across the agreement. Establish the authorised workshop and the process for a fault before relying on the C10 for essential work. Any replacement transport, roadside provision or maintenance package needs its own written scope. Manufacturer protection does not automatically guarantee uninterrupted business use.
The B10 route is worth considering if you are comparing another Leapmotor SUV for the same daily task. T03 belongs in a smaller urban-car discussion. Do not assume either shares the C10’s range-extender architecture or carrying layout. Use each alternative to test a specific need, then ask IVF to compare documented UK vehicles on consistent contract terms.
C10 Hybrid EV must not be put in the zero-emission band merely because its wheels are electrically driven. The table separates the pure EV from a conditional plug-in band. Confirm the supplied Hybrid EV’s certified CO2 and electric range, including any NI-labelled variation.
Private use by an employee or director generally produces a benefit calculated from P11D and the annual percentage, with personal income tax applied afterwards. The Hybrid EV’s generator architecture does not change that method. PCH and a sole trader’s own use are separate assessments.
Company-car BiK benchmarks, 2026/27 to 2029/30
| Tax specification | 2026/27 | 2027/28 | 2028/29 | 2029/30 |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Zero-emission battery-electric C10 | 4% | 5% | 7% | 9% |
| Qualifying range-extender PHEV: 1-50 g/km, certified electric range 70-129 miles | 7% | 8% | 18% | 19% |
These are conditional tax bands, not assigned rates for every Leapmotor C10. Confirm the supplied car’s P11D, certified CO2, fuel type and registration date. Diesel supplements can apply where the required emissions certification is absent, subject to the annual maximum.
The electric-mile figures above are HMRC band thresholds, not promises of this car’s driving range. Newer plug-in hybrid certification can show more than 50 g/km. A temporary company-car easement may treat an eligible car as 1 g/km where the registration date, electric range and Euro-status conditions are met; it is not automatic and must not be transferred to lease-rental deductions. Check the vehicle documents and HMRC’s plug-in hybrid conditions with your accountant.
Use our company-car BiK guide alongside HMRC’s 2026/27 and 2027/28 tables and the published 2028/29 and 2029/30 changes. Tax information checked 28 September 2026 against the C1 ledger and its primary sources. Tax treatment depends on individual circumstances and may change; consult your accountant.
Vehicle Excise Duty (VED). For a Leapmotor C10 taxed as a car, the 2026/27 standard annual payment after its first year is £200, before supplements. First-year VED follows its emissions and registration rules; a qualifying zero-emission car has a £10 first-year rate. Later annual cash rates are not confirmed here. Check the funder’s treatment of increases.
Expensive Car Supplement. In 2026/27 the supplement is £440 annually for five years starting with the second licence. The threshold is a list price above £40,000 for a petrol, diesel or hybrid car; qualifying zero-emission cars registered from 1 April 2025 use £50,000. Options and registration date matter, and discounts do not lower the list-price test. See GOV.UK’s VED rules.
Planned eVED. From April 2028 the government plans an additional mileage charge: 3p per mile for battery-electric cars and 1.5p for plug-in hybrids, subject to legislation and implementation. CPI uprating is planned from 2029/30; later cash rates are not fixed here. Ask how the agreement will handle this future cost and check the eVED consultation response.

VAT-registered businesses can normally reclaim 50% of the VAT on qualifying car rentals where private use is available, depending on circumstances and the normal VAT rules. Full rental-VAT recovery requires exclusive business use with no private availability. Maintenance can fall outside the rental block when it is genuinely optional, separately described in the contract and separately quantified on the invoice; recovery remains subject to normal VAT rules. Read HMRC’s motoring VAT guidance.
The hire-cost rules normally disallow 15% of otherwise deductible rentals for cars above 50 g/km, subject to their scope and exceptions. A company-car BiK easement does not establish relief from this restriction. Check HMRC’s car-hire deduction rules.
For accounting periods beginning on or after 1 January 2026, revised FRS 102 generally requires a right-of-use asset and lease liability for lessees, including small companies using Section 1A. FRS 105 lease accounting for eligible micro-entities was not changed in the same way. Contract hire therefore does not universally keep a car off the balance sheet. Ask your accountant to apply the right framework; HMRC summarises the accounting standards.
Flat Rate Scheme users generally cannot reclaim VAT on recurring car-hire payments. Ask your accountant which VAT regime applies before using the recovery examples above.
Tell IVF your annual mileage, regular passengers, essential equipment, charging access where relevant and preferred timing. Ask for the precise model year, derivative, options and registration status to be written into the quotation. The catalogue is a starting point; the offered vehicle and funder terms need confirmation.
Business Contract Hire is taken by the business; Personal Contract Hire is taken by the private individual. Both are subject to status and individual funder criteria. Compare the initial rental, term, mileage, maintenance and applicable fees on the same basis. An initial rental is part of the hire cost, not refundable security or ownership equity.
A manufacturer warranty starts under the supplied car’s warranty terms, normally from first registration. Its time and mileage limits may finish before your lease does. It is separate from optional servicing and tyre cover. Confirm maintenance inclusions, insurance responsibilities, tax provisions and early-termination terms before signing.
At the end of contract hire, return the vehicle; there is no contractual purchase option. Excess mileage, damage beyond the funder’s fair wear and tear standard, missing equipment or other contractual charges may still be payable. Check the return process before choosing your agreement.

No. It has an electric drive motor and a petrol engine used as a generator. That makes it a range-extending plug-in hybrid, with a different tax position from the battery-electric C10. Confirm the powertrain in plain language on the quotation.
Leapmotor’s UK technical description says the engine generates electricity while the electric motor drives the wheels. Petrol use still creates emissions, so the arrangement must not be described as a zero-emission company car.
The captured route contains electric 70kWh-labelled entries, including Life, and 28kWh-labelled Hybrid EV entries, including an NI row. Manufacturer figures use more precise battery capacities. Ask for the exact model-year and equipment schedule.
The grid includes different certification descriptions. Confirm the registration market and vehicle documents with the supplier before calculating tax. A shared model name does not establish that all entries use the same certified CO2 figure.
Assess dependable charging, long-distance stops and the driver’s actual routes. Then compare the zero-emission tax path and complete contract cost with the range extender. A percentage alone cannot decide which car works for the business.
Yes. Regular charging is central to making use of its battery. If you would rarely plug in, examine the petrol-running case instead of assuming the weighted test consumption predicts your use. The petrol generator is not a substitute for that assessment.
No. Use the technical sheet for the exact UK derivative, model year and battery being offered. Hardware and specification can differ across markets. Neither a shared name nor a catalogue battery label confirms charging performance.
Separate battery-electric and Hybrid EV quotes first, then align grade, mileage, term, initial rental and maintenance. The grid displays prices, while IVF confirms the supplied vehicle and full terms. Different powertrains should not be treated as identical offers.
UK C10 information states four years or 60,000 miles for the vehicle and eight years or 100,000 miles for the battery, whichever limit comes first and subject to terms. Confirm the supplied car’s documents and distinguish servicing from warranty.
Consider B10 when comparing another SUV and T03 when a smaller urban-car task may be enough. Check their separate specifications. Neither should be assumed to share C10 Hybrid EV technology or the same passenger and luggage layout.
