Your Citroën Berlingo Van leasing decision

Intelligent Vehicle Finance helps businesses choose a Citroën Berlingo Van around the driver, load and daily route. Compare M and XL bodies, the required seating and diesel or electric operation. Confirm the exact model year, equipment and working payload before choosing a lease; catalogue entries do not establish vehicle availability.

Berlingo Van business leasing: start in the driver’s seat

For a visiting technician, the Berlingo is transport and a place to organise the working day. Check seat adjustment, access, visibility and tool storage before cosmetic equipment. Its compact size is useful only if the complete load fits within its space and weight limits.

Citroën’s current UK presentation highlights Advanced Comfort seating and Enterprise Plus and Driver equipment choices. Confirm which seats accompany the quotation; pictured features need not belong to older catalogue entries. Try the driving position in normal work clothing.

Choose Dispatch instead where a larger installation, several workers or bulky goods are normal requirements. A Berlingo also needs reconsideration if long materials regularly occupy the passenger area when that seat is needed. This page concerns the commercial van, not a passenger Berlingo chosen for family transport. Confirm that distinction when discussing seats, taxation and insurance.

Citroën Berlingo Van leasing: key facts

  • Commercial Berlingo Van is distinct from the passenger Berlingo; this page covers the working van.
  • Citroën’s UK guide captured on 28 September 2026 gives M and XL panel floors of 1,817mm and 2,167mm.
  • The same electric panel-van references show indicative payloads of 759kg for M and 691kg for XL; occupants and equipment must be allowed for.
  • Enterprise Plus and Driver are shown on Citroën’s current UK model page; confirm the specification behind older catalogue names.
  • ë-Berlingo is listed by Citroën UK; its battery, range and charging figures need matching to the quoted derivative.
  • For a qualifying van in 2026/27, GOV.UK’s standard taxable private-use benefit is £4,170; a qualifying zero-emission van has nil van benefit.

M, XL and EXTENSO answer different loading questions

The UK electronic guide captured on 28 September gives a clear starting point: an M panel van has a 1,817mm load floor behind the bulkhead; XL has 2,167mm. Both offer 1,229mm between the wheel arches. Their ordinary load volumes are 3.3m³ and 3.9m³. Those measurements describe the named panel bodies before your installation, rather than a clear rectangular space once shelves and lining have been fitted.

EXTENSO changes the seating and bulkhead arrangement to accommodate suitable longer objects. The guide gives extended floor lengths of 3,090mm for M and 3,440mm for XL with the specified seat folded. Do not treat this as additional full-width van space. Test the cross-section of the item, its restraint and the passenger places left usable. Protecting the driver and keeping controls unobstructed matter more than making an object fit by any means.

Try retrieving the tools for the final appointment while other items remain aboard. XL may improve access even without a larger load; M may suffice with occasional load-through use. Measure normal parking and unloading places.

Distinguish the reduced-payload diesel from the working allowance

Citroën’s guide lists the M diesel 100hp manual at 982kg maximum indicative payload, but a separately identified reduced-payload M diesel 100hp manual is 647kg. The engine description alone therefore does not settle carrying ability. Specify the weight version as well as power and gearbox. This distinction is particularly relevant when a van will carry dense parts, fixings or permanent tool storage.

The electric M 136hp automatic reference is 759kg and XL is 691kg. These figures are calculated against a driver-excluded kerb basis, so the driver and other occupants still consume the stated allowance. Add the lining, locks, roof system, shelving and their contents. Ask the supplier to confirm the exact weight definition and the completed van’s limits before using a brochure figure as your loading instruction.

If a trailer is involved, the same electric references show a 750kg braked towing limit. That is specific to these electric rows and cannot be replaced by a diesel towing figure. The trailer, towbar, noseweight, gross train weight and driver entitlement all need checking together. Tell IVF about towing at the start, especially if it is essential to the business rather than an occasional possibility.

ë-Berlingo: work from a named battery and a realistic day

Citroën UK lists diesel Berlingo Van and electric ë-Berlingo at the September check. The captured UK guide describes the electric van with a 100kW motor and a 52kWh gross, 50.7kWh net LFP battery. Its technical section gives 213 miles combined WLTP. Treat that as a guide benchmark: confirm the actual IVF derivative, model year, equipment and certified range rather than applying it to every electric catalogue description.

The same technical reference gives DC charging up to 100kW and a 0-80% benchmark of 30 minutes under the stated conditions. Verify both for the van offered. Neither figure includes driving to a charger, waiting or preparing to resume work. The power supplied, battery temperature and starting charge affect the session, while load, speed and cabin heating affect how far the energy takes you.

For repeated local visits, record the longest normal day and the additional mileage a late customer call could add. Decide where the van parks overnight and whether it can stay connected long enough. An employee taking the van home needs a usable, authorised charging arrangement. Compare diesel where parking or unpredictable distance prevents a dependable charging plan; fuel choice should support the actual diary.

Read the Berlingo listing alongside the supplying specification

The IVF model route is a catalogue, not a statement that each entry is currently obtainable. Body codes, trim names and battery labels can span more than one model year. Ask for one written specification covering the exact body, engine or battery, gearbox and required equipment. Where an older description differs from the latest manufacturer guide, resolve the difference before relying on either set of figures.

Berlingo belongs to the same related compact-van family as Fiat Doblò, Peugeot Partner, Vauxhall Combo Cargo and Toyota Proace City. Similar load-bay architecture makes equivalent body comparisons useful, but it does not settle Citroën’s equipment or support terms. Compare Enterprise Plus and Driver against the actual alternative quotation, paying particular attention to seats, load-through equipment and local commercial workshop access.

Toyota’s support proposition belongs to Proace City and should not be transferred to Berlingo. Likewise, Citroën equipment is not automatically fitted to a related Partner or Doblò. Confirm each required feature in writing.

Plan repairs around the equipment inside the van

For a Berlingo carrying a fixed tool store, another vehicle may provide transport without allowing the technician to work normally. Ask the supplying Citroën outlet how servicing, diagnostic work and recovery would be arranged. Check whether the intended workshop can handle the electric version and any fitted installation. Agree the practical contingency for tools and customer appointments instead of assuming a courtesy vehicle replaces the working van.

The captured guide states traction-battery cover of eight years or 100,000 miles with a 70% capacity threshold, subject to conditions. Keep that separate from whole-vehicle warranty, roadside assistance and any maintenance option. Record the warranty commencement date and service requirements for the supplied van. Fitted equipment needs its own warranty contact and the funder’s permission where required.

At handover, check the ordered equipment, load restraints and charging cables where supplied. Keep photographs and an installation schedule for servicing, eventual return and future replacement orders.

Berlingo Van benefit in kind through the agreement

For 2026/27, a qualifying non-zero-emission van with taxable private use has a standard benefit value of £4,170. The separate van fuel benefit is £798 where employer-provided private fuel is chargeable. These are taxable values, not the amount every driver pays. The individual’s tax position and any permitted reductions affect the result.

A qualifying zero-emission ë-Berlingo has nil van benefit under the current 0% calculation. A diesel van may instead meet the business-use exemption, subject to the restrictions on private use. Ordinary commuting is treated differently from substantial personal journeys under the van rules. Your accountant should establish which treatment applies to the intended use.

For 2027/28, 2028/29 and 2029/30, review the annual van rules as they are published. Do not insert company-car percentage bands or assume the current cash charges remain fixed across the lease.

GOV.UK van benefit values and the van-use exemptions checked 28 September 2026. Tax depends on circumstances and can change; take advice from your accountant.

Road tax and costs across the term

Vehicle Excise Duty (VED). For a qualifying TC39 light goods Berlingo registered from 1 March 2001 and not over 3,500kg revenue weight, the single annual payment is £360 in 2026/27, including electric vans. Confirm how the agreement treats subsequent tax changes. GOV.UK vehicle tax tables checked 28 September 2026.

Expensive Car Supplement. The car supplement is not imposed on a TC39 commercial Berlingo simply because equipment raises its value. Establish the registered vehicle category rather than using passenger-car assumptions.

Planned eVED. Vans are outside the planned April 2028 introduction of eVED under the July 2026 response. This does not remove ordinary VED or fix future policy. Read the government’s eVED scope.

VAT and the business accounts

A VAT-registered business must assess van-hire VAT using its own recovery position and actual use. The passenger-car rental block should not automatically be applied to a commercial Berlingo. Read HMRC Notice 700/64 and the IVF VAT guide.

Ask your accountant to assess rental deductions, capital allowances where relevant and the correct accounting framework independently. A van benefit classification is not evidence of a particular VAT recovery or capital-allowance result.

Talk through the vehicle and agreement with IVF. Call 01752 429950 or request a callback with your business requirements.

Build the quotation around the way you will use it

Tell IVF your annual mileage, crew, loads, towing, fitted equipment, charging access where relevant and preferred timing. Ask for the precise model year, derivative, options and registration status to be written into the quotation. The catalogue is a starting point; the offered vehicle and funder terms need confirmation.

Business Contract Hire is taken by the business; Personal Contract Hire is taken by the private individual. Both are subject to status and individual funder criteria. Compare the initial rental, term, mileage, maintenance and applicable fees on the same basis. An initial rental is part of the hire cost, not refundable security or ownership equity.

A manufacturer warranty starts under the supplied vehicle’s warranty terms, normally from first registration. Its time and mileage limits may finish before your lease does. It is separate from optional servicing and tyre cover. Confirm maintenance inclusions, insurance responsibilities, tax provisions and early-termination terms before signing.

At the end of contract hire, return the vehicle; there is no contractual purchase option. Excess mileage, damage beyond the funder’s fair wear and tear standard, missing equipment or other contractual charges may still be payable. Check the return process before choosing your agreement.

Have your load, people, route and annual mileage requirements ready. Let us help you narrow the specification.

Citroën Berlingo Van leasing questions

Is this page for the commercial Berlingo or the passenger car?

It covers Berlingo Van and ë-Berlingo commercial vehicles. A passenger Berlingo has a different seating purpose and can have different tax treatment. Tell IVF the intended goods and people requirements so the quotation identifies the correct vehicle.

Should a visiting technician choose M or XL?

Start with the installed tool store and the largest item carried regularly. XL gives a longer ordinary load floor, but also needs more parking space. Try accessing everyday tools without unloading the van before deciding.

Does EXTENSO leave every passenger seat available?

Not when the extended space relies on folding the specified passenger seat. Check the exact seat and bulkhead configuration, remaining occupied seats and load restraint. The extended length is for compatible objects, not an enlarged full-width compartment.

Why must I check a reduced-payload Berlingo separately?

Citroën’s guide identifies a reduced-payload diesel version alongside a higher-payload version with a similar engine description. Ask for the gross weight and exact derivative, then account for people and installed equipment before deciding how much cargo can be carried.

Does Citroën currently list an electric Berlingo Van?

Yes, ë-Berlingo is listed in the UK at the September 2026 check. The precise battery, body, model year and supply still require confirmation against the vehicle IVF quotes. A catalogue listing is not a reservation.

How should I assess ë-Berlingo charging?

Use the proposed battery and charging hardware, the real parking location and the time between working days. Include a reserve for late appointments and poor weather. Confirm any numerical brochure benchmark against the exact offered derivative.

Are Berlingo and Doblò identical choices?

They are related compact vans, but UK equipment, seating provision, warranty terms and workshop support need separate comparison. Match the same load and passenger brief before deciding which complete package suits your business.

Does the battery warranty cover maintenance?

No. Traction-battery cover, whole-vehicle warranty and a maintenance package have different terms. Check the relevant time, mileage and capacity conditions and establish who services any installed equipment as well as the base van.

Can a sole trader discuss Berlingo business contract hire?

Yes, discuss the business and vehicle requirement with IVF. Funding remains subject to status and individual funder criteria. Your accountant should assess the business-use, VAT and deduction position from your own circumstances.

What makes a Berlingo lease quotation comparable?

Use the same body, weight version, equipment, annual mileage and term. Compare the initial rental, maintenance selection and applicable fees, and confirm return responsibilities. A similar trim name alone is not a sufficient specification.
