Intelligent Vehicle Finance helps you compare Toyota Proace City leasing for local deliveries, service visits and compact business loads. Choose the body and Smart Cargo layout first, then assess diesel or electric power and Toyota Professional support. The exact vehicle, warranty conditions and usable payload should all be confirmed together.
Proace City deserves attention from a business that wants a compact load carrier with a clear servicing relationship. A local delivery operation, a specialist retailer moving its own products or an owner-driver visiting customers may value predictable access to a suitable Toyota Professional workshop. The van still needs to pass the physical tests first: your goods, people and access requirements determine the body, while the support arrangement helps determine how it will be kept working.
It is not the larger Proace and should not be assessed with that van's dimensions or towing assumptions. Nor is it the passenger Proace City Verso. Keep the commercial panel-van quotation separate from either. If you need substantial equipment and several colleagues at once, explore the larger Proace. If the vehicle is mostly used for small consignments, test whether the shorter City body can do the job without paying in manoeuvring space for length you seldom use.
Tell us your delivery pattern, largest item and servicing location so we can discuss the right Proace City brief.
| Van | Reason to compare | Do not assume |
|---|---|---|
| Toyota Proace City | Smart Cargo and Toyota Professional’s conditional service support. | That the maximum warranty period is unconditional from registration. |
| Peugeot Partner | A compact workshop layout with Peugeot trim packaging. | That a similar body means identical included equipment. |
| Vauxhall Combo Cargo | FlexCargo and a defined fleet equipment schedule. | That the same platform gives the same warranty or servicing arrangement. |
All three are related compact vans. Compare the complete UK derivative and local support, including the vehicle’s actual warranty terms.
Toyota’s UK Proace City brochure dated October 2024 gives a floor length of 1,817mm in Short and 2,167mm in Long, with 1,527mm maximum load width and 1,229mm between the wheel arches. Its basic volumes are 3.3m³ and 3.9m³. These are measurement references for the brochure body, not a certification of every older or newly revised vehicle in IVF's listings. Request the relevant dimension sheet for your proposed derivative.
Smart Cargo uses the folding passenger-seat and bulkhead arrangement to create extended lengths of 3,090mm and 3,440mm. The corresponding extended volumes are 3.8m³ and 4.4m³. Those figures depend on the required system being fitted and deployed; they cannot be combined with every seat occupied. A long parcel may fit through the opening while a wide packaged product does not, so measure the actual item including its protection.
Toyota's named brochure gives electric payload benchmarks of 759kg for Short and 691kg for Long, with diesel reference figures of 990kg and 936kg respectively. These are not interchangeable allowances across every trim, model year or accessory package. Obtain the exact version's weight definition and confirm whether the driver is included before making deductions. Lining, racking and other equipment reduce the allowance available for the working load.
Toyota's electric reference includes a 750kg braked towing benchmark for the specified Proace City Electric. Check the vehicle plate, trailer, towbar and combination limit before including towing in the job. A trailer changes manoeuvring and charging access as well as the weight calculation. If a trailer is needed every day simply because the van is too small, compare the larger Proace as a complete alternative.
Toyota UK lists Proace City Electric and diesel versions at the check on 28 September 2026. The visible Icon electric specification pairs a 50kWh battery label and 100kW motor with 206.92 miles combined WLTP and approximately 30 minutes for a 10-80% DC charge. These are named UK website benchmarks, not confirmed figures for every IVF 50kWh catalogue entry. The model-year and battery description must be reconciled on the quotation before you use them for planning.
The retained UK brochure also describes DC capability up to 100kW for the 50kWh version. Check that capability against the actual offered van; charging power is limited by the vehicle, available supply and battery conditions. A nominally fast charger does not deliver peak power throughout a session. Build the route around reliable overnight energy replacement and reserve time for unexpected work, rather than treating a charging-time reference as a fixed appointment length.
Electric operation can fit regular local runs returning to an equipped parking place. It needs closer assessment where the van stays overnight at different employees' homes or has a second shift. Confirm who controls the parking space, whether charging permission exists and how electricity costs will be recorded. For diesel, compare the listed 1.5-litre versions and the actual gearbox. Neither powertrain should be selected solely from the highest brochure distance or an assumed tax saving.
Toyota UK's current Proace City page describes a three-year manufacturer warranty, followed by additional cover activated through qualifying servicing, up to ten years or 100,000 miles. That is a conditional programme, not an unconditional ten-year manufacturer warranty supplied on day one. Ask for the terms relevant to the exact vehicle, mileage and service schedule, and check that the intended servicing will preserve eligibility.
Toyota Professional also describes roadside assistance for new commercial vehicles and service-linked support for eligible existing vehicles. Establish the actual duration, geographical scope and any restrictions before relying on it. A courtesy vehicle is subject to availability. It may help with travel while failing to replace your delivery capacity, refrigerated installation or equipment storage. Your continuity plan should account for the business task, not just access to another set of keys.
The IVF capture includes Active, Icon and Sport, with L1 and L2 diesel or electric entries. It contains 1.5D 100 labels and 130 Sport manual or automatic descriptions, plus electric 50kWh labels with different charger wording. A catalogue label is a starting point for specification confirmation. Ask which model year is being offered, the included lining and load-through equipment, and whether the charger matches your electrical supply.
Proace City comes from the Toyota and Stellantis commercial-vehicle collaboration and is related to Peugeot Partner and Vauxhall Combo Cargo. That relationship explains similarities in layout, but Toyota's support programme, UK grading and individual quotations need their own assessment. Choose Toyota because the complete specification and support fit your business, not because shared architecture proves identical cover or a particular reliability outcome.
Agree the installation of lining, dividers, security equipment or load restraints before ordering. Obtain funder permission where required and make clear who warrants the conversion. Confirm the finished weight and keep a record of the installed equipment for servicing and eventual return. A neatly specified empty vehicle can become unsuitable if the accessories consume too much payload or obscure essential access.
For 2026/27, an employee or director’s chargeable private use of a qualifying non-zero-emission van is assessed using a £4,170 standard van benefit. Private fuel paid for by the employer may produce a separate £798 fuel benefit. These are taxable values, with the personal tax outcome depending on the individual.
A qualifying electric Proace City falls under the current zero-emission van rule: 0% of £4,170, giving a nil van benefit. The business-use exemption for other vans has its own conditions, including the treatment of commuting and insignificant private use. Confirm how the vehicle will actually be used, rather than inferring the position from its badge or lease type.
If your contract extends into 2027/28, 2028/29 or 2029/30, keep the later annual van figures under review. Passenger-car BiK percentage tables do not provide a multi-year tax forecast for this commercial panel van. GOV.UK explains the benefit values and the exemptions. Checked 28 September 2026; obtain individual advice from your accountant.
Vehicle Excise Duty (VED). GOV.UK lists £360 as the 2026/27 single annual payment for qualifying TC39 light goods vehicles registered from 1 March 2001, up to 3,500kg revenue weight, including electric versions. Confirm the actual class and how tax changes are handled in the lease. See the light goods VED rules; checked 28 September 2026.
Expensive Car Supplement. The Expensive Car Supplement is a car rule, not an extra charge inferred from the price of a TC39 Proace City van. Use the registration category and current tax guidance.
Planned eVED. The July 2026 eVED response places vans outside the planned April 2028 introduction. That current scope should be distinguished from any later policy change. Check the published eVED response.
VAT recovery on Proace City hire must follow the business’s registration, use and normal VAT conditions. A commercial van should not automatically receive the passenger-car rental VAT treatment. HMRC’s motoring VAT notice is the primary source; our VAT on business leasing guide provides context.
The accountant should separately consider the lease, private use and any installed delivery equipment. Capital allowances and deductions depend on the arrangement; a van benefit classification does not settle those questions or establish an off-balance-sheet accounting result.
Discuss the vehicle and agreement together. Call 01752 429950 or request a callback with your business requirements.
Tell IVF your annual mileage, crew, loads, towing, fitted equipment, charging access where relevant and preferred timing. Ask for the precise model year, derivative, options and registration status to be written into the quotation. The catalogue is a starting point; the offered vehicle and funder terms need confirmation.
Business Contract Hire is taken by the business; Personal Contract Hire is taken by the private individual. Both are subject to status and individual funder criteria. Compare the initial rental, term, mileage, maintenance and applicable fees on the same basis. An initial rental is part of the hire cost, not refundable security or ownership equity.
A manufacturer warranty starts under the supplied vehicle’s warranty terms, normally from first registration. Its time and mileage limits may finish before your lease does. It is separate from optional servicing and tyre cover. Confirm maintenance inclusions, insurance responsibilities, tax provisions and early-termination terms before signing.
At the end of contract hire, return the vehicle; there is no contractual purchase option. Excess mileage, damage beyond the funder’s fair wear and tear standard, missing equipment or other contractual charges may still be payable. Check the return process before choosing your agreement.

Proace City is Toyota’s compact commercial van. Proace is the larger medium van, with different body and payload options. Compare the load and people you need to carry before choosing between them; their specifications are not interchangeable.
No. It covers the commercial Proace City van. Verso is the passenger route, so its seating, vehicle category and tax assumptions should not be borrowed for a van quotation.
On the appropriate specification it uses the passenger-seat and bulkhead arrangement to accommodate suitable long items. The extended loading space depends on that system being fitted and folded, which affects seating. Check the opening as well as the quoted length.
Not necessarily. Toyota’s named brochure lists electric payload references of 759kg for Short and 691kg for Long. Confirm the exact derivative, driver allowance and installed equipment before calculating the working payload.
No. Toyota describes an initial manufacturer warranty followed by additional cover through qualifying servicing, with age and mileage limits and other conditions. Request the applicable terms for the supplied vehicle and the servicing planned during your lease.
Yes. Toyota UK and IVF’s catalogue list electric versions at the September 2026 check. Confirm the exact battery, model year, charger and certified range on the proposed vehicle; a catalogue entry is not confirmation of physical stock.
Manufacturer pages, older brochures and catalogue descriptions can use different battery labels or show different technical generations. IVF should obtain one consistent specification for the actual van so that range, charging and payload assumptions refer to the same vehicle.
Yes. It is part of Toyota’s commercial-vehicle collaboration with Stellantis. Similar architecture does not make the UK equipment, support programmes or warranty conditions identical, so compare the complete proposition for your business.
No. Recovery assistance, warranty repair and scheduled maintenance have different terms. Check each separately, including mileage limits, servicing obligations and replacement-vehicle availability.
Provide the largest package, maximum working load, required seats, daily route and annual mileage. Add your preferred servicing area, essential accessories and charging arrangements if considering electric, so IVF can prepare a properly scoped quotation.
Bring your load, crew, route and equipment requirements. We can help turn them into a clear vehicle and contract brief.
