Your Ford Transit Courier leasing decision

Intelligent Vehicle Finance helps businesses choose Ford Transit Courier leasing for compact service and delivery work. Compare the normal cargo bay, load-through option and working payload before selecting petrol, diesel or E-Transit Courier. Match the exact model year and battery specification to the route and charging plan.

Ford Transit Courier business leasing: where it fits

Transit Courier is a compact Ford van for jobs where equipment needs its own secure space but a medium-sized body would be unnecessary. It can suit local maintenance visits, small consignments and service work with a defined stock list. The useful starting point is the fully loaded departure from base, rather than the appearance of the empty cargo bay.

Its size does not remove the need for a proper loading plan. Tools, replacement parts and packaging can become heavy before they occupy much volume. Long narrow objects may use a specified load-through opening, while a tall case needs to fit within the ordinary bay and door aperture. Separate those two requirements when comparing the vehicle.

The range also spans petrol, diesel and electric operation. Those choices should be assessed against the working route and available support, with particular care over electric model year. Ford’s latest UK technical document and the descriptions currently present in IVF’s catalogue do not use identical battery labels, so the exact offered E-Transit Courier needs confirmation.

Ford Transit Courier leasing: key facts

  • Ford UK 27MY document, effective 24 August 2026: regular Courier van floor loading length 1,802 mm; specified load-through length 2,661 mm.
  • The regular van table gives 2.9 m³ behind the bulkhead, or 3.0 m³ with the stated load-through arrangement, and 1,220 mm between wheel arches.
  • The cited regular van drawing gives 1,262 mm maximum load-space height and 1,235 mm rear-entry height. Fittings reduce usable clearance.
  • 27MY diesel Limited 1.5 EcoBlue 100 PS manual benchmark: 628 kg payload, or 795 kg with the specified increased-payload configuration.
  • 27MY E-Transit Courier Trend benchmark: 46 kWh battery label, 136 PS electric drive, 201-mile combined WLTP range and 696 kg payload.
  • IVF’s observed electric catalogue uses 43 kWh wording. Do not assign the newer 46 kWh document’s range or payload without matching the actual vehicle.

These are practical alternatives, not a ranking or a like-for-like specification claim. Compare the actual quoted body, equipment, permitted weights and agreement.

Start with the regular van and its actual model year

IVF’s observed Courier catalogue includes 1.0 EcoBoost petrol descriptions, 1.5 EcoBlue diesel, and electric entries. Leader, Trend, Limited and Active names appear, with manual or automatic wording where specified. These labels do not establish that every trim can be combined with every powertrain or that each listed derivative is currently obtainable.

Ford’s latest UK technical document is marked 27MY, effective 24 August 2026. It includes regular vans and separate Double Cab in Van entries. The latter should not be treated as an equipment pack that leaves the ordinary panel bay unchanged. Ask IVF to identify the exact body, approved seats and powertrain before using a technical row.

Normal load length and the bulkhead opening do different jobs

The 27MY UK regular-van dimension table gives 1,802 mm normal floor loading length. Its stated load-through arrangement extends the available length for suitable items to 2,661 mm through a 370 mm by 345 mm opening. That extension can help with narrow materials; it does not turn the whole van into a full-height bay of the longer dimension.

The same table gives 2.9 m³ behind the bulkhead and 3.0 m³ with the specified extension, with 1,220 mm between the wheel arches. Maximum internal loading height is 1,262 mm, while the rear entry is 1,235 mm. An item that fits the inside height may still need a different loading angle or fail to pass through the entrance.

For repeated deliveries, arrange the stock in stop order without blocking the items needed first. For service work, allow access to tool drawers from the door used at the customer’s premises. Check the actual floor covering, lining and restraint points. A compact van can work efficiently when its equipment is organised, but a volume figure alone cannot show that.

Check the increased-payload configuration rather than assuming it

Ford’s 27MY diesel Limited 1.5 EcoBlue 100 PS manual row lists 628 kg payload, or 795 kg with its specified increased-payload configuration. The gross vehicle masses differ too: 1,965 kg and 2,135 kg. Those paired values are not interchangeable figures for a single standard vehicle. Confirm which configuration the quotation actually includes.

Other engines and trims have their own rows. The 27MY electric Trend benchmark is 696 kg payload at 2,250 kg gross vehicle mass, while Limited is listed at 683 kg. Options and the actual equipment load still need accounting for. Ask how the manufacturer’s payload definition treats occupants before subtracting the business’s real people and cargo.

Weigh the items that remain aboard every day, including batteries, fluids, spare parts and any roof system. Then add the heaviest realistic collection or delivery. A van leaving a supplier can be more heavily loaded than it was at the start of the day, so the calculation should cover that condition as well. Keep dense loads restrained and sensibly distributed.

Match E-Transit Courier’s battery before using a range figure

Ford UK lists E-Transit Courier, checked 28 September 2026. Its 27MY UK technical document describes a 46 kWh electric Trend row with a 136 PS drive unit and 201-mile combined WLTP range. The same document lists the electric Limited with that range benchmark but a different payload. These are named document rows, not a range promise for every electric Courier.

IVF’s observed electric titles use 43 kWh wording. That difference must be resolved on the quoted vehicle’s model-year and battery data before applying the newer document’s figures. It could involve specification or labelling differences; this page does not assume which. Ask for the gross and usable capacity definitions and certified range for the actual vehicle.

Charging needs the same discipline. Obtain the offered van’s AC and DC capabilities and a properly scoped charging-window benchmark before planning a mid-shift stop. A charging claim from an earlier battery version should not be silently attached to the current 46 kWh document or an unspecified catalogue row. The charger’s advertised power alone does not establish the energy the van will accept.

For a local round, test the longest normal day with the working load, heating and a reserve for unexpected calls. Identify the overnight parking location, installation permission and the person responsible for checking that charging completed. A reliable depot or home arrangement is more useful than assuming a public charger will always be free when the route needs it.

Move up to Connect only for a defined requirement

Transit Connect is the next compact Ford comparison when a longer body or a different seating arrangement is needed. Transit Custom is the medium-van step for work that genuinely exceeds the smaller vans. Bring the same cases, occupied-seat requirement and site-access constraints to each assessment rather than choosing by badge or a general impression of space.

Ford Transit Courier van tax: 2026/27 and the years ahead

A petrol or diesel Transit Courier and a qualifying zero-emission E-Transit Courier can have different employee benefit treatment. Decide who will use the van privately before turning a fleet quotation into a personal tax estimate.

In 2026/27, the taxable benefit benchmark for a company van is £4,170, and private fuel can create a further £798 benefit. A qualifying fully electric van instead has nil van benefit: GOV.UK expresses this as 0% of £4,170. These values are separate from the leasing payment. Check GOV.UK’s company-van benefit values.

Business-only arrangements, permitted commuting and insignificant private use need to meet the exemption conditions. Keep employee permissions consistent with actual journeys rather than relying on the van’s small size or branding. Read the van exemption conditions.

Revisit the rules in 2027/28, 2028/29 and 2029/30 if the Courier agreement spans those years. This page confirms the current cash amounts only and does not forecast later van-benefit upratings. Tax checked 28 September 2026. Treatment depends on circumstances and can change; obtain advice from your accountant.

Road tax and costs across the term

Vehicle Excise Duty (VED). For a Courier meeting TC39 light goods conditions, the 2026/27 single annual tax payment is £360. The scope is registration from 1 March 2001 and revenue weight up to 3,500 kg; zero-emission vehicles are included. Check the GOV.UK light-goods table. Confirm the funder’s treatment of VED and later increases.

Expensive Car Supplement. For Courier budgeting, the car Expensive Car Supplement is not an extra charge triggered solely by a qualifying van’s list price. Confirm the registered category rather than importing a passenger-car calculation. Check GOV.UK’s vehicle-tax categories. Checked 28 September 2026.

Planned eVED. A qualifying E-Transit Courier falls outside the van-excluding scope set for eVED’s planned April 2028 introduction. The July 2026 Treasury response also excludes buses, coaches and HGVs; do not budget the passenger-car mileage charge as a van rule. Read the government’s eVED response. Checked 28 September 2026; future policy can change.

VAT and the business accounts

Ask how Courier rentals and any separately supplied maintenance are treated under your VAT scheme. Recovery depends on qualifying taxable use; a business with private or exempt use may need to apportion or adjust it. IVF’s van and car VAT guide and HMRC’s motoring VAT guidance explain the starting points.

Courier lease accounting depends on the framework used, and capital allowances require advice on the actual business and agreement. Revised FRS 102 generally uses lessee right-of-use asset and lease-liability recognition from accounting periods beginning on or after 1 January 2026. FRS 105 was not amended in that way. Read HMRC’s accounting-standard summary. Checked 28 September 2026.

Talk through the vehicle and agreement with IVF, then confirm your tax treatment with your accountant.

Build the quotation around the way you will use it

Tell IVF your annual mileage, crew, loads, towing, fitted equipment, charging access where relevant and preferred timing. Ask for the precise model year, derivative, options and registration status to be written into the quotation. The catalogue is a starting point; the offered vehicle and funder terms need confirmation.

Business Contract Hire is taken by the business; Personal Contract Hire is taken by the private individual. Both are subject to status and individual funder criteria. Compare the initial rental, term, mileage, maintenance and applicable fees on the same basis. An initial rental is part of the hire cost, not refundable security or ownership equity.

A manufacturer warranty starts under the supplied vehicle’s warranty terms, normally from first registration. Its time and mileage limits may finish before your lease does. It is separate from optional servicing and tyre cover. Confirm maintenance inclusions, insurance responsibilities, tax provisions and early-termination terms before signing.

At the end of contract hire, return the vehicle; there is no contractual purchase option. Excess mileage, damage beyond the funder’s fair wear and tear standard, missing equipment or other contractual charges may still be payable. Check the return process before choosing your agreement.

Ford Transit Courier leasing questions

How long is the Transit Courier cargo bay?

The 27MY UK regular-van table gives 1,802 mm floor length. The specified load-through arrangement reaches 2,661 mm for suitable narrow items. Confirm the opening, seat arrangement and restraints; the extended figure is not a full-height load bay.

Will a tall item fit if it is below the internal roof height?

Not necessarily. The cited table gives 1,262 mm maximum load-space height but 1,235 mm rear-entry height. Measure the object, opening and loading angle, allowing for lining and fittings. Internal dimensions alone do not establish access.

Does every Courier have the higher payload figure?

No. For example, the 27MY diesel Limited 100 PS manual row lists 628 kg normally and 795 kg with a specified increased-payload configuration. Confirm the actual option and plated gross weight rather than combining the most attractive figures.

Is Courier available with petrol and diesel engines?

Both appear in IVF’s observed catalogue, alongside E-Transit Courier. Confirm the specific engine, gearbox, body and trim with IVF. A search entry is a catalogue description, not evidence of stock, order acceptance or delivery timing.

What battery does E-Transit Courier have?

The current 27MY UK technical document uses a 46 kWh label, while the observed IVF electric titles use 43 kWh. Obtain the supplied vehicle’s model year and gross and usable battery definitions before choosing which technical figures apply.

Can I rely on 201 miles from E-Transit Courier?

That is the combined WLTP benchmark for the named electric rows in Ford’s 27MY UK document. It must be matched to the quoted vehicle. Actual range changes with temperature, speed, load and auxiliary use, so plan a working reserve.

How should I plan electric Courier charging?

Request the exact vehicle’s AC and DC specification and a charging-window benchmark. Then check site power, parking permission, access and backup arrangements. Do not carry an earlier battery version’s charging claim across to a different model-year description.

Can Courier carry colleagues as well as equipment?

Ford’s 27MY document includes a separate Double Cab in Van body. Its seating positions change the available cargo space, so use its own measurements and payload data. Confirm the actual version and supply with IVF before comparing it with a regular van.

When should I consider Transit Connect instead?

Compare Connect when a measured load length or seating requirement exceeds Courier’s working arrangement. Check the exact wheelbase and occupied-seat layout. Moving up should solve that requirement while remaining suitable for parking and access at the sites you visit.

Can I fit shelving to a leased Courier?

Seek written funder permission and check the installation’s weight, fixing method and warranty implications. Agree whether it must be removed at return. Include the shelving and permanent stock before calculating how much additional cargo the vehicle can carry.
