Intelligent Vehicle Finance helps business and private drivers assess Geely EX5 leasing. The UK EX5 is a five-seat battery-electric SUV, with SE, Pro, Max and Ultra appearing in current manufacturer and IVF listings. Compare the exact battery and equipment, establish a dependable charging routine and check the tax path before choosing.
The EX5 is an electric SUV to assess when five seats, a conventional family-car role and an equipment-rich cabin are useful to you. For an SME driver or director, the initial decision is whether the vehicle can support the working week without awkward charging arrangements. For private use, make the same test against school, shopping, leisure and longer journeys.
EX5 is a five-seat, front-wheel-drive task in the current UK table. Confirm any towing or accessory requirement separately. No prediction about brand longevity or resale values is made here.
Geely EX5 and two alternatives: different ownership tasks
| Model | Reason to consider it | Decision to resolve |
|---|---|---|
| Geely EX5 | Five-seat electric SUV with four current grades | Match battery and equipment to the charging routine. |
| Geely Starray | Separate Geely powertrain decision | Establish its own fuel, charging and tax requirements. |
| MG S5 | Alternative electric SUV to test | Compare the actual battery, cabin and service arrangements. |
The live route captured on 28 September 2026 lists SE, Pro and Max with 60kWh catalogue labels, and Ultra with 68kWh. The current UK manufacturer page lists the same four grades and gives more precise usable battery capacities. That is a meaningful specification distinction, not simply another comfort pack to compare after the monthly offer.
Ask for the exact model year, battery, wheels and equipment schedule. The UK page distinguishes wheel sizes and features across grades, so an Ultra photograph cannot establish what is included on an SE. Make a short list of non-negotiable features, then identify the grade that supplies them without treating every additional feature as an improvement for your routine.
Geely’s current UK technical table gives 60.22kWh usable battery capacity for the established grades and 68.39kWh for Ultra. IVF rounds its catalogue labels to 60 and 68kWh. Those descriptions should be reconciled in the quotation alongside the drivetrain and wheels. Usable capacity is not automatically the same measurement as gross battery capacity quoted elsewhere.
The current manufacturer page contains differing range and charging headline and footnote references. This pack therefore avoids assigning a numerical driving range or charging time across the EX5 family. Obtain a dated derivative-specific benchmark and confirm which battery and test conditions it covers. The vehicle’s practical suitability still depends on your journeys, weather and dependable access to charging.
Start with where the car will remain parked for useful periods, such as home or work. Confirm installation feasibility, electrical supply, permission and cable reach. If public charging will do most of the work, check access and payment arrangements on the actual sites you intend to use. A map marker is not evidence that a charger is always available.
Plan the most demanding regular trip with a reserve for delays or a failed charging stop. Think about colder weather, motorway speed, heating and a full passenger load. For shared business use, agree who manages charging accounts and how the next driver receives enough charge. These practical arrangements are more useful than repeating a peak charging figure without context.
Geely’s UK table identifies five seats and provides overall dimensions, but neither establishes how your own passengers will fit. Set the driving position and test the rear seats behind it. Check the foot space, headroom and child-seat installation with the actual roof specification; a glass-roof demonstrator should not stand in for every grade.
Load the boot with the required seats occupied, check tailgate clearance and keep cables accessible. Work equipment needs appropriate secure storage; a large open luggage area is not sufficient by itself.
The UK equipment list includes a large central screen and connected functions. Test your own phone, the navigation and the common controls, then ask what works without a subscription or mobile signal. The current source marks Android Auto as coming soon, so this pack does not promise it as an enabled feature on every supplied car.
Ask the supplier to demonstrate the assistance settings and parking views on the intended grade. The driver remains responsible for observation and control. A business that changes drivers frequently should agree a handover and profile-removal routine, including app access. Software and account administration can affect daily convenience even when the physical vehicle is a good fit.
Geely Starray sits on its own route because its powertrain and customer task need a separate assessment. Do not borrow EX5’s electric tax percentage or charging specification simply because the vehicles share a badge. If Starray enters your shortlist, establish the exact energy system and how it fits the same journeys you have mapped for EX5.
Compare MG S5’s seating, luggage access and local servicing. Obtain exact battery specifications before judging either car against your charging routine. Our electric car leasing guide helps you assess charging access.
Geely UK’s base warranty states eight years or 125,000 miles from first registration, whichever comes first. The high-voltage battery has a separate eight-year or 125,000-mile capacity-related warranty with conditions. Some components have shorter coverage. Ask for the full commitment document rather than treating the longest headline as universal protection for every part.
Identify the authorised workshop and compare mileage with warranty limits. At handover, check the battery, grade, cables and promised software functions. Record unavailable essentials clearly for resolution.
The EX5 is zero-emission at the tailpipe, but company-car tax still depends on its P11D value and the driver’s circumstances. SE, Pro, Max and Ultra can have different list values. The table shows the published electric percentage path, not a single cash tax figure applicable to every EX5 quotation.
The taxable benefit for an employee or director with private use normally starts with the supplied vehicle’s P11D value and the appropriate annual percentage. Apply the driver’s income tax position separately. A business’s hire payments are a different calculation; sole traders need advice on their own circumstances.
Company-car BiK benchmarks, 2026/27 to 2029/30
| Tax specification | 2026/27 | 2027/28 | 2028/29 | 2029/30 |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Zero-emission EX5 company car | 4% | 5% | 7% | 9% |
Use our company-car BiK guide alongside HMRC’s 2026/27 and 2027/28 tables and the published 2028/29 and 2029/30 changes. Tax information checked 28 September 2026 against the C1 ledger and its primary sources. Tax treatment depends on individual circumstances and may change; consult your accountant.
Vehicle Excise Duty (VED). For 2026/27, the standard annual VED payment after the first year is £200 before any supplement. First-year VED depends on CO2 and registration rules; zero-emission cars currently have a £10 first-year rate. These cash rates apply to 2026/27 only; later annual VED rates are not confirmed here. Ask how the funder treats tax increases during your agreement.
Expensive Car Supplement. The Expensive Car Supplement is £440 a year in 2026/27 for five years from the second licence. The list-price threshold is more than £40,000 for petrol, diesel and hybrid cars, or more than £50,000 for qualifying zero-emission cars registered from 1 April 2025. Use the published list price before discounts, including relevant options, and check the registration date. Plug-in hybrids do not receive the electric-car threshold. GOV.UK explains VED and the supplement.
Planned eVED. The government plans Electric Vehicle Excise Duty (eVED) from April 2028, alongside VED: 3p per mile for electric cars and 1.5p per mile for plug-in hybrids. This is proposed for April 2028, subject to legislation and implementation; it is not a charge currently in force. The stated rates are planned starting rates, with CPI uprating proposed from 2029/30 and later cash rates not confirmed. An agreement spanning introduction needs the funder’s written treatment of the charge and later changes. Check the government’s consultation response and final implementation guidance before committing.
VAT-registered businesses can normally reclaim 50% of the VAT on qualifying car rentals where private use is available, depending on circumstances and the normal VAT rules. Full rental-VAT recovery requires exclusive business use with no private availability. Maintenance can fall outside the rental block when it is genuinely optional, separately described in the contract and separately quantified on the invoice; recovery remains subject to normal VAT rules. Read HMRC’s motoring VAT guidance.
A zero-emission car is not subject to the CO2-based lease-rental restriction. Check HMRC’s car-hire deduction rules.
For accounting periods beginning on or after 1 January 2026, revised FRS 102 generally requires a right-of-use asset and lease liability for lessees, including small companies using Section 1A. FRS 105 lease accounting for eligible micro-entities was not changed in the same way. Contract hire therefore does not universally keep a car off the balance sheet. Ask your accountant to apply the right framework; HMRC summarises the accounting standards.
Flat Rate Scheme users generally cannot reclaim VAT on recurring car-hire payments. Ask your accountant which VAT regime applies before using the recovery examples above.
Tell IVF your annual mileage, regular passengers, essential equipment, charging access where relevant and preferred timing. Ask for the precise model year, derivative, options and registration status to be written into the quotation. The catalogue is a starting point; the offered vehicle and funder terms need confirmation.
Business Contract Hire is taken by the business; Personal Contract Hire is taken by the private individual. Both are subject to status and individual funder criteria. Compare the initial rental, term, mileage, maintenance and applicable fees on the same basis. An initial rental is part of the hire cost, not refundable security or ownership equity.
A manufacturer warranty starts under the supplied car’s warranty terms, normally from first registration. Its time and mileage limits may finish before your lease does. It is separate from optional servicing and tyre cover. Confirm maintenance inclusions, insurance responsibilities, tax provisions and early-termination terms before signing.
At the end of contract hire, return the vehicle; there is no contractual purchase option. Excess mileage, damage beyond the funder’s fair wear and tear standard, missing equipment or other contractual charges may still be payable. Check the return process before choosing your agreement.

Yes. The UK EX5 reviewed here is a five-seat battery-electric SUV, and the captured IVF entries are electric. It needs an external charging routine. It should not be confused with the separate Starray route or with another market’s Geely specification.
The live capture contains SE, Pro, Max and Ultra. Current Geely UK material lists the same grade names. Confirm battery, model year, wheels and equipment in the quotation; the existence of a catalogue row does not establish stock or a delivery date.
The current UK table distinguishes Ultra’s 68.39kWh usable capacity from the 60.22kWh figure used for the other reviewed grades. IVF rounds those labels to 68 and 60kWh. Match the exact derivative before applying a range or charging benchmark, and check equipment differences separately.
The current Geely UK specification reviewed here lists front-wheel drive. Do not infer AWD from its SUV body or another country’s announcement. If drivetrain, towing or an accessory is essential, ask IVF for explicit confirmation against the offered UK vehicle.
Ask for the certified figure for its battery, trim, wheels and model year, then allow for real use. This pack does not give one numerical range for all EX5s because the current source contains differing headline and footnote references. Weather, speed, load and heating also affect actual travel.
The current UK source marks Android Auto as coming soon. This pack therefore does not promise it is enabled on every car. If phone compatibility is essential, test your handset and obtain confirmation for the delivered software version before committing.
Geely’s base warranty states eight years or 125,000 miles, whichever comes first, from initial registration. Battery capacity cover has separate conditions, and some components have shorter periods. Review the full policy, service requirements and exclusions for the actual vehicle and intended annual mileage.
Compare the exact offered batteries, cabin, luggage access, controls and servicing arrangements. Use the same journey and charging plan for both. A larger published range or longer equipment list is not enough to establish which vehicle will work better for your particular business or family use.
For a qualifying zero-emission company car, the published path is 4% in 2026/27, 5% in 2027/28, 7% in 2028/29 and 9% in 2029/30. The driver’s tax depends on P11D and individual circumstances; those percentages are not applied directly to monthly lease payments.
Confirm grade, battery, model year, options, software-dependent essentials, annual distance and agreement length. Establish charging access before signing. Compare maintenance, initial rental and applicable fees on the same basis, and check the return requirements for keys, charging cables and personal account removal.
