Genesis is a deliberate choice for a driver who wants to assess the car and the support experience together. The right shortlist is not settled by a premium equipment list alone. Cabin requirements, electric journey planning and the mileage covered by the care package all influence how the agreement will work several years after handover.
GV60 offers an electric SUV starting point, Electrified GV70 provides a different cabin and body, and Electrified G80 serves an executive saloon requirement. GV60 Magma is a distinct performance enquiry. Give each a clear job before comparing packs or outputs: regular rear passengers, work cases, parking dimensions and charging opportunity are more useful first questions.
Older catalogue names need status-aware handling. Genesis's current UK new-model selector centres on the electric range, while G70 and combustion references sit outside that new configurable selection. Retained G70 and mixed GV70 pages are not proof of current factory supply. Ask about an identified vehicle or compare the current electric alternative; do not transfer a new brochure's figures to an older listing.
Use this comparison to separate the vehicle decisions before comparing agreements. Model pages can contain several generations or bodies; specify the one you want.
| Model page | Body and powertrain | Decision to make |
|---|---|---|
| G70 | Legacy petrol saloon/Shooting Brake route | Specific vehicle enquiry, not current factory availability. |
| Electrified G80 | Electric executive saloon | Dynamic/Luxury, rear cabin and exact battery. |
| GV60 Magma | Dedicated electric performance model | Own specification, tyre provision and allocation. |
| GV60 | Battery-electric SUV | Separate 77.4/84 kWh generations and Pure/Sport/Performance. |
| GV70 / Electrified GV70 | Current electric SUV and legacy combustion references | Confirm propulsion and supplied generation. |
GV60 catalogue descriptions include earlier 77.4 kWh Premium, Sport and Sport Plus cars alongside current 84 kWh Pure, Sport and Performance versions. These are not simply different names for identical batteries. Specify generation, motors and equipment before judging which one suits a repeated journey or an office charging pattern.
Current GV60 Pure's manufacturer benchmark is up to 348 miles WLTP combined. Current Electrified GV70 Pure is quoted at up to 298 miles on the same test measure, a 50-mile difference for those two named versions. That comparison is useful only alongside the cabin decision. It does not assign either figure to older batteries, AWD alternatives or a different wheel package, and speed, load and weather affect road range.
Electrified G80 offers a saloon alternative to the SUVs. Current Dynamic's benchmark is up to 354 miles WLTP combined, while the retained catalogue identifies 272 kW AWD, 94 kWh-labelled Dynamic and Luxury entries. Match the exact offered generation and trim before using that range. A battery label alone is not a confirmation of usable energy.
For G70, distinguish the saloon from the five-door Shooting Brake estate. Their retained petrol descriptions must be treated as legacy vehicle enquiries, not as a promised new order programme. Similarly, older 2.5 petrol and 2.2 diesel GV70 descriptions cannot inherit Electrified GV70's tax or battery specifications.
For a director or senior business driver, assess Genesis support against the working calendar. A servicing arrangement matters differently to someone covering substantial annual mileage than to a local driver. Establish the applicable care-plan mileage allowance and the point at which the business becomes responsible for further scheduled work.
Electric company-car tax and the employer's contract are separate calculations. Options, P11D, private availability and future tax years belong in the accountant's brief. An older petrol GV70 example can illustrate the formula, but it cannot establish the saving from switching to a differently sized or equipped electric car.
VAT-registered businesses can normally reclaim 50% of the VAT on qualifying car rentals where private use is available, depending on circumstances and the normal VAT rules. Full rental-VAT recovery requires exclusive business use with no private availability. Maintenance can fall outside the rental block when it is genuinely optional, separately described in the contract and separately quantified on the invoice; recovery remains subject to normal VAT rules. Read HMRC’s motoring VAT guidance.
The hire-cost rules normally disallow 15% of otherwise deductible rentals for cars above 50 g/km, subject to their scope and exceptions. A company-car BiK easement does not establish relief from this restriction. Check HMRC’s car-hire deduction rules.
For accounting periods beginning on or after 1 January 2026, revised FRS 102 generally requires a right-of-use asset and lease liability for lessees, including small companies using Section 1A. FRS 105 lease accounting for eligible micro-entities was not changed in the same way. Contract hire therefore does not universally keep a car off the balance sheet. Ask your accountant to apply the right framework; HMRC summarises the accounting standards.
Flat Rate Scheme users generally cannot reclaim VAT on recurring car-hire payments. Ask your accountant which VAT regime applies before using the recovery examples above.
A private Genesis lease can make sense when you want use of the car for an agreed period and will return it afterwards. Decide whether the saloon's rear-seat arrangement or an SUV's loading access better serves your household. Try actual luggage through the G80 boot rather than assuming its external size settles that question.
Assess the support package in writing. A manufacturer may describe collection, delivery or a replacement vehicle under particular conditions, but those terms should not become an unconditional IVF service promise. Confirm eligibility, the servicing location and how the arrangement operates where you live before making it part of your decision.
Genesis benefit calculations must distinguish current electric models from legacy petrol or diesel catalogue references. The preserved petrol GV70 and electric GV60 illustrations show the formula for different cars, not a like-for-like saving. Apply the correct P11D and tax-year path to the actual offered vehicle.
For private availability to an employee or director, multiply the actual P11D value by the applicable percentage to establish the annual benefit before adjustments; the driver’s income tax rate then determines personal tax. This is distinct from the business’s rental and from a sole trader’s own motoring treatment.
The retained examples are dated catalogue illustrations from 10 September 2026, not current vehicle quotations. They assume a full year, 40% income tax and no employee contributions or other adjustments. Different vehicles illustrate the formula, not a like-for-like saving.
| Listed derivative | P11D | Tax basis | BiK | Tax at 40% |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| GV70 2.5T Premium automatic AWD | £41,250 | 217 g/km | 37% | £6,105.00 |
| GV60 168kW Pure 84kWh | £54,050 | Zero-emission electric | 4% | £864.80 |
| Tax specification | 2026/27 | 2027/28 | 2028/29 | 2029/30 |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Zero-emission Genesis | 4% | 5% | 7% | 9% |
| Petrol at the maximum emissions band | 37% | 37% | 38% | 39% |
These are conditional tax bands, not assigned rates for every Genesis. Confirm the supplied car’s P11D, certified CO2, fuel type and registration date. Diesel supplements can apply where the required emissions certification is absent, subject to the annual maximum.
Use our company-car BiK guide alongside HMRC’s 2026/27 and 2027/28 tables and the published 2028/29 and 2029/30 changes. Tax information checked 27 September 2026 against the C1 ledger and its primary sources. Tax treatment depends on individual circumstances and may change; consult your accountant.
Vehicle Excise Duty (VED). For 2026/27, the standard annual VED payment after the first year is £200 before any supplement. First-year VED depends on CO2 and registration rules; zero-emission cars currently have a £10 first-year rate. These cash rates apply to 2026/27 only; later annual VED rates are not confirmed here. Ask how the funder treats tax increases during your agreement.
Expensive Car Supplement. The Expensive Car Supplement is £440 a year in 2026/27 for five years from the second licence. The list-price threshold is more than £40,000 for petrol, diesel and hybrid cars, or more than £50,000 for qualifying zero-emission cars registered from 1 April 2025. Use the published list price before discounts, including relevant options, and check the registration date. Plug-in hybrids do not receive the electric-car threshold. GOV.UK explains VED and the supplement.
Planned eVED. The government plans Electric Vehicle Excise Duty (eVED) from April 2028, alongside VED: 3p per mile for electric cars and 1.5p per mile for plug-in hybrids. This is proposed for April 2028, subject to legislation and implementation; it is not a charge currently in force. The stated rates are planned starting rates, with CPI uprating proposed from 2029/30 and later cash rates not confirmed. An agreement spanning introduction needs the funder’s written treatment of the charge and later changes. Check the government’s consultation response and final implementation guidance before committing.
Begin electric Genesis planning with the charger you will use most often, then test the routes that are less convenient. The occasional late return or unavailable workplace bay matters because a plan needs to work outside an ideal week. Include a reserve for cold weather and longer motorway travel rather than relying on a maximum laboratory distance.
Compare the exact battery and drivetrain when looking at charging capability. A current GV60 headline cannot describe an earlier 77.4 kWh car automatically. Nor should the most favourable Pure range be assigned to a performance specification with different motors or wheels. Ask for the matching UK technical information and a clear charging window before comparing stop times.
For Electrified G80, evaluate long-journey comfort and luggage together with charging opportunities at destinations. For Electrified GV70, weigh the cabin benefit against the journey pattern that led you to consider GV60. The 50-mile difference between the named Pure benchmarks is not a universal real-world gap between those models.
Keep energy costs separate from included servicing. Electricity at home, workplace charging and rapid public charging can have different costs. A care package does not pay the vehicle's energy bill, and a business driver's reimbursement arrangements need their own policy and tax assessment.
Genesis publishes a five-year unlimited-mileage vehicle warranty, subject to its terms and component-specific exceptions. The scheduled-servicing element of its published Care Plan is different: five years or 50,000 miles, whichever comes first. The registration and eligibility documents determine which commitments apply to the offered car.
At 20,000 miles per year from new, a 50,000-mile servicing allowance is reached after two and a half years. That leaves part of a three-year agreement beyond that mileage allowance. This is a simple planning calculation, not a claim that every Genesis lease includes the same package. Compare additional maintenance against the services that actually remain uncovered.
High-voltage battery warranty and any capacity protection require a separate policy check. A general reference to a battery in an ownership FAQ is not sufficient evidence for traction-battery cover. Ask for the correct booklet, start date, mileage terms and exclusions. Keep optional tyre provision and normal wear outside assumptions about manufacturing-defect warranty.
GV60 Magma should be selected because the dedicated performance version meets a considered brief. The catalogue's 478 kW, 84 kWh-labelled AWD description identifies a distinct enquiry, not confirmed allocation. Tyres, insurance and maintenance arrangements belong in the decision before relying on the standard GV60 Pure range figure or ordinary model delivery assumptions.
For rear passengers, test each Genesis with the front seats in the actual drivers' positions. Saloon roofline, SUV step-in height and loading shape solve different problems. Check garage width, door clearance and the items that travel most often; an equipment-rich cabin cannot compensate for an access arrangement that does not work.
Care-plan servicing depends on more than a headline duration. Establish authorised workshops, collection boundaries, replacement-car conditions and any mileage already accumulated at delivery. If the offered car differs in registration date or generation from the one initially discussed, revisit the remaining cover and included services before approving the substitution.
Connected functions and optional packs also need itemised confirmation. Ask which features are fitted, which require activation and which services might expire during the contract. A similarly named trim from an earlier generation can have different contents. Keep a copy of the agreed specification with the quotation so the handover can be checked against it.
Tell IVF your annual mileage, regular passengers, essential equipment, charging access where relevant and preferred timing. Ask for the precise model year, derivative, options and registration status to be written into the quotation. The catalogue is a starting point; the offered vehicle and funder terms need confirmation.
Business Contract Hire is taken by the business; Personal Contract Hire is taken by the private individual. Both are subject to status and individual funder criteria. Compare the initial rental, term, mileage, maintenance and applicable fees on the same basis. An initial rental is part of the hire cost, not refundable security or ownership equity.
A manufacturer warranty starts under the supplied car’s warranty terms, normally from first registration. Its time and mileage limits may finish before your lease does. It is separate from optional servicing and tyre cover. Confirm maintenance inclusions, insurance responsibilities, tax provisions and early-termination terms before signing.
At the end of contract hire, return the vehicle; there is no contractual purchase option. Excess mileage, damage beyond the funder’s fair wear and tear standard, missing equipment or other contractual charges may still be payable. Check the return process before choosing your agreement.
Use the linked model pages to examine the exact body and specification, then bring your shortlist to IVF with mileage, timing and essential equipment.

Match the body and electric generation to the driver, then assess care-plan coverage against annual mileage. Keep employee benefit tax separate from the business’s hire commitment. Eligibility, support arrangements and specific supply should be confirmed before the car is scheduled into a fleet.
Identify the same generation, battery, motors, grade and options, then align term, mileage and maintenance. Check how much manufacturer servicing remains and whether an additional package duplicates or extends it. A common model badge does not make two quotations equivalent.
No. Earlier 77.4 kWh descriptions and current 84 kWh entries represent different specification sets. Ask for the exact model year and equipment. Current Pure range information cannot automatically be applied to older Sport, Performance or Magma cars.
No. The retained route includes older combustion descriptions as well as Electrified GV70. Treat legacy entries as specific supply enquiries and confirm the exact vehicle. Electric range and zero-emission tax treatment do not describe petrol or diesel versions.
No. The retained G70 saloon and Shooting Brake route must be treated as a legacy enquiry. Genesis’s current UK new-model selection is centred on its electric range. Ask about an identified car or current alternative without assuming the page establishes allocation.
The published scheduled-servicing allowance is five years or 50,000 miles, whichever comes first, subject to eligibility. Vehicle warranty has different terms. At 20,000 miles annually from new, the servicing mileage is reached after two and a half years.
No. Compare the specific battery and trim alongside cabin, luggage and passenger access. Current Pure WLTP benchmarks differ, but other versions and real driving conditions alter the comparison. Decide which body solves the task and whether its charging routine works.
No. It is a separate performance specification requiring its own battery, motor, wheel and equipment evidence. Confirm supply and consider tyres, insurance and maintenance. The most favourable standard Pure range should not be assigned to Magma.
Record applicable warranty, care eligibility, scheduled-servicing limits and any optional maintenance. Confirm workshop access and conditions for collection or a replacement vehicle. Those services should not be assumed universal merely because they appear in general manufacturer publicity.
Contract hire provides use followed by return, without a contractual purchase option. Plan for the funder’s mileage and condition checks, missing-equipment charges and return process. The initial rental is hire cost rather than ownership equity.
