Your MG4 leasing decision

Intelligent Vehicle Finance helps you compare MG4 electric hatchback leasing for business or personal use. The IVF grid contains current Premium versions alongside earlier SE and Trophy entries, so model year matters. Match battery, equipment and certified range to the exact quotation, and keep the separate MG4 Urban model distinct.

MG4 business lease: the hatchback decision before the battery decision

An MG4 can make sense for a business driver who wants an electric hatchback rather than an SUV, or for a private household moving its main car to electricity. Start with the body shape and driving position. If you carry colleagues or children regularly, check rear access and seating with the front seat adjusted for the usual driver. If work means carrying equipment, try the actual cases in the boot.

This page covers the MG4 EV and the catalogue entries on this route. The newer MG4 Urban is a separate product, not simply a trim level to select from the same specification sheet. An enquiry that says only MG4 can therefore be ambiguous. Include the full derivative name from the listing and ask IVF to confirm which model and model year the proposal concerns.

MG4 leasing: key facts

  • MG UK’s current MG4 EV range lists Premium Long Range, Premium Extended Range and XPOWER; checked 28 September 2026.
  • Current UK battery choices are 64kWh for Premium Long Range and XPOWER, and 77kWh for Premium Extended Range.
  • MG’s current page gives up to 338 miles WLTP combined for the 77kWh Premium Extended Range; that benchmark does not cover every IVF entry or real journey.
  • IVF also lists earlier SE, SE Nav and Trophy names; confirm model year and equipment before comparing figures.
  • MG publishes seven years or 80,000 miles of vehicle warranty, whichever comes first, subject to terms.
  • GOV.UK: zero-emission company-car BiK is 4% in 2026/27, rising to 9% in 2029/30.

Why current and earlier MG4 versions need separating

The 28 September IVF capture includes Premium Long Range 64kWh, Premium Extended Range 77kWh and XPOWER 64kWh. It also contains SE, SE Nav and Trophy entries, including a 49kWh SE Nav label and earlier Long Range and Extended Range names. Those catalogue descriptions should remain visible as separate choices until the supplying specification has been checked. A newer marketing page is not evidence that every ratebook car has the same interior or software.

There is a specific power-label discrepancy to resolve on Premium Long Range: MG’s current UK product page describes a 140kW motor, while the IVF row says 170kW. Ask for the manufacturer specification for the exact offered vehicle before treating either label as your contract specification. The shared 64kWh description alone does not resolve the difference.

For any older name in the grid, request model year, battery, trim, wheel size and the equipment list together. Compare the cabin photographs and demonstration car with that document. A quote can be perfectly relevant while describing a different model-year car, but you should understand that difference before deciding. Do not assume a similarly named Trophy and Premium have identical features or certified range.

64kWh, 77kWh and the question your longest journey asks

MG’s current UK line-up pairs the Premium Long Range with 64kWh and the Premium Extended Range with 77kWh. XPOWER also uses a 64kWh battery but adds the performance-focused all-wheel-drive proposition. Battery capacity is therefore only one part of the comparison: it does not make XPOWER equivalent to the regular Long Range for efficiency, tyres or intended use.

For the current 77kWh Premium Extended Range, MG publishes up to 338 miles WLTP combined. That is a derivative-specific test benchmark, not a figure to attach to the earlier Trophy Extended Range or every car carrying an MG4 badge. Your actual distance depends on temperature, speed, route, load and other conditions. Confirm the quoted car’s certified figure and leave a practical reserve for journeys where stops are inconvenient.

Charging times belong to a battery and a set of conditions

MG quotes a 10-80% time of 25 minutes for the current 64kWh Premium Long Range using a suitable 150kW rapid charger under standardised conditions. This is a scoped manufacturer benchmark. It does not describe a full charge, the 77kWh derivative, every older MG4 or a session at an ordinary home point. Confirm the exact car and charging conditions before using it to plan a stop.

An effective home routine usually matters more than reproducing a rapid-charge test. Confirm that you have permission to install a point, a suitable parking space and a cable route that works. If you depend on communal parking, check availability and access rules. A charger at work may be convenient, but establish a fallback for weekends, holidays and a future change of employer.

Which MG4 equipment will earn its place?

Choose equipment by the way you drive. Regular early starts may make heating controls and demisting particularly important. Frequent urban parking may put visibility and fitted parking aids higher on the list. A driver using navigation and calls throughout the day should pair their own phone and test the interface. Make these checks on a representative version rather than assuming the entire range works identically.

XPOWER needs a separate decision about performance. Test whether its character is what you want, obtain an insurance quotation for the correct derivative and check tyre and maintenance arrangements. A fast acceleration time does not tell you whether the seat, ride and controls will remain comfortable after a long day. It also does not change the zero-emission BiK percentage relative to another battery-electric MG4.

Planning an MG4 agreement around changing mileage

The MG vehicle warranty is seven years or 80,000 miles, subject to its conditions. Check the first-registration date and existing mileage on the supplied vehicle, particularly when comparing different catalogue generations. Routine maintenance, tyres, accidental damage and insurance remain separate matters. The calendar headline alone does not explain what will be covered near the end of a high-mileage lease.

When the shortlisting is complete, request one written comparison using consistent term, mileage and maintenance assumptions. The grid already displays prices; the next step is to understand the vehicle and obligations behind them. A carefully identified MG4 proposal is more useful than a generic quote that leaves the battery, generation or equipment uncertain.

For a different MG body or product, compare MG IM5 leasing and the separate MG4 Urban leasing route. Confirm each model’s specification independently.

MG4 company-car tax across the lease

The current and earlier MG4 EV entries are battery-electric cars. Their zero-emission BiK percentage follows the same annual path, but the P11D value can differ materially by derivative and options. Use the exact quotation data for payroll. A private Personal Contract Hire agreement does not itself create a company-car benefit simply because the vehicle is electric.

For an employee or director with private use, the taxable benefit normally starts with the car’s P11D value multiplied by the applicable BiK percentage. Personal tax then depends on the individual’s income tax rate and any relevant adjustments. The percentage is not the tax rate applied to the lease rental. A sole trader’s own business car use follows different rules.

The agreement can cross several tax years. Compare the whole path, not just the percentage in the year the car arrives.

Tax information checked 28 September 2026 against the C1 ledger and its primary sources. Tax treatment depends on individual circumstances and may change; consult your accountant.

Road tax and costs across the term

Vehicle Excise Duty (VED). For 2026/27, the standard annual VED payment after the first year is £200 before any supplement. First-year VED depends on CO2 and registration rules; zero-emission cars currently have a £10 first-year rate. These cash rates apply to 2026/27 only; later annual VED rates are not confirmed here. Ask how the funder treats tax increases during your agreement.

Expensive Car Supplement. The Expensive Car Supplement is £440 a year in 2026/27 for five years from the second licence. The list-price threshold is more than £40,000 for petrol, diesel and hybrid cars, or more than £50,000 for qualifying zero-emission cars registered from 1 April 2025. Use the published list price before discounts, including relevant options, and check the registration date. Plug-in hybrids do not receive the electric-car threshold. GOV.UK explains VED and the supplement.

Planned eVED. The government plans Electric Vehicle Excise Duty (eVED) from April 2028, alongside VED: 3p per mile for electric cars and 1.5p per mile for plug-in hybrids. This is proposed for April 2028, subject to legislation and implementation; it is not a charge currently in force. The stated rates are planned starting rates, with CPI uprating proposed from 2029/30 and later cash rates not confirmed. An agreement spanning introduction needs the funder’s written treatment of the charge and later changes. Check the government’s consultation response and final implementation guidance before committing.

VAT and the business accounts

VAT-registered businesses can normally reclaim 50% of the VAT on qualifying car rentals where private use is available, depending on circumstances and the normal VAT rules. Full rental-VAT recovery requires exclusive business use with no private availability. Maintenance can fall outside the rental block when it is genuinely optional, separately described in the contract and separately quantified on the invoice; recovery remains subject to normal VAT rules. Read HMRC’s motoring VAT guidance.

A zero-emission car is not subject to the CO2-based lease-rental restriction. Check HMRC’s car-hire deduction rules.

For accounting periods beginning on or after 1 January 2026, revised FRS 102 generally requires a right-of-use asset and lease liability for lessees, including small companies using Section 1A. FRS 105 lease accounting for eligible micro-entities was not changed in the same way. Contract hire therefore does not universally keep a car off the balance sheet. Ask your accountant to apply the right framework; HMRC summarises the accounting standards.

Flat Rate Scheme users generally cannot reclaim VAT on recurring car-hire payments. Ask your accountant which VAT regime applies before using the recovery examples above.

Build the quotation around the way you will use it

Tell IVF your annual mileage, regular passengers, essential equipment, charging access where relevant and preferred timing. Ask for the precise model year, derivative, options and registration status to be written into the quotation. The catalogue is a starting point; the offered vehicle and funder terms need confirmation.

Business Contract Hire is taken by the business; Personal Contract Hire is taken by the private individual. Both are subject to status and individual funder criteria. Compare the initial rental, term, mileage, maintenance and applicable fees on the same basis. An initial rental is part of the hire cost, not refundable security or ownership equity.

A manufacturer warranty starts under the supplied car’s warranty terms, normally from first registration. Its time and mileage limits may finish before your lease does. It is separate from optional servicing and tyre cover. Confirm maintenance inclusions, insurance responsibilities, tax provisions and early-termination terms before signing.

At the end of contract hire, return the vehicle; there is no contractual purchase option. Excess mileage, damage beyond the funder’s fair wear and tear standard, missing equipment or other contractual charges may still be payable. Check the return process before choosing your agreement.

MG4 leasing questions

Is MG4 still sold in the UK?

Yes. MG’s current UK MG4 EV range includes Premium Long Range, Premium Extended Range and XPOWER. IVF also lists earlier derivative names. Confirm the offered model year and specification before comparing those entries.

Is MG4 Urban the same car?

MG markets MG4 Urban separately from MG4 EV. Do not treat Urban as an equipment grade within the MG4 EV specification. Use the complete product name when requesting a quote or arranging a demonstration.

Which batteries are in the current MG4 range?

MG lists 64kWh for Premium Long Range and XPOWER, and 77kWh for Premium Extended Range. Earlier catalogue entries may use different descriptions, including an IVF 49kWh SE Nav label; these need their own specification confirmation.

Does every MG4 offer 338 miles of range?

No. Up to 338 miles WLTP combined is MG’s current 77kWh Premium Extended Range benchmark. It is not a promise for another model year or battery. Actual range varies with weather, speed, load and use.

Why does the Premium Long Range power label need checking?

The captured IVF entry says 170kW while MG’s current UK product page says 140kW. Ask IVF to reconcile the exact model year and manufacturer specification before relying on that description in your quotation.

How quickly can the current 64kWh MG4 charge?

MG quotes 10-80% in 25 minutes for Premium Long Range at a suitable 150kW rapid charger in standardised conditions. This is not a full-charge time or a promise for other versions; temperature, charger output and battery state matter.

Can I choose MG4 for business contract hire?

Yes, IVF can assess a business enquiry subject to status and supply. For employee or director private use, the electric-car BiK path is 4%, 5%, 7% and 9% from 2026/27 to 2029/30, applied to the relevant P11D value.

How should a private driver choose between Long and Extended Range?

Compare your longest regular route, charging opportunities and passenger needs. Extra battery capacity is useful when it solves a real journey constraint; the 77kWh choice should not substitute for checking that a workable charging routine exists.

What warranty does MG provide?

MG publishes seven years or 80,000 miles, whichever comes first, subject to terms. Confirm the first-registration date and supplied vehicle’s cover. Servicing, tyres and insurance should be assessed separately from warranty.

What makes an MG4 lease quotation comparable?

The same model year, battery, trim, mileage, term and maintenance basis. Check fees and return obligations as well. Start from the prices displayed in the grid and request a written proposal identifying the actual vehicle.
