Your MG IM6 leasing decision

Intelligent Vehicle Finance helps business and private drivers compare MG IM6 electric SUV leasing. IM is MG’s premium electric line, and the IM6 suits drivers prioritising cabin space and long-distance use. Choose between the listed 100kWh versions around your journeys, charging access and equipment; current vehicle availability needs a written quotation.

MG IM6 business lease: choose the SUV around your working week

The IM6 is worth considering when an electric company car must carry colleagues, family members and the equipment that goes with a busy week. Its appeal here is a spacious SUV format within MG’s premium electric line. A director travelling between sites may value that format more than the fastest acceleration figure. A private driver may put seating comfort and a workable home-charging routine first. Decide which of those needs matters most before comparing the versions.

This is less convincing as a choice if most parking spaces you use are tight or charging would depend on unplanned detours. Do not solve a manoeuvring problem by buying more power. Measure the garage entrance and your workplace bay, then check the turning and visibility aids on the exact specification being offered. The suitable IM6 is the one that makes ordinary use easier.

MG IM6 leasing: key facts

  • UK model status checked 28 September 2026: MG markets the IM6 as an electric SUV in its IM line.
  • The UK launch range uses a 100kWh battery: Long Range, Performance and Launch Edition. Do not transfer IM5 battery choices to IM6.
  • IVF lists three derivatives: a 300kW Long Range and two 553kW all-wheel-drive versions; catalogue labels require quotation-stage confirmation.
  • MG’s UK warranty is seven years or 80,000 miles, whichever comes first, subject to the supplied car’s terms.
  • The IM6 is battery electric; charging arrangements are part of the vehicle decision, not an optional afterthought.
  • GOV.UK: zero-emission company-car BiK is 4% in 2026/27, rising to 9% in 2029/30.

The IM6 range currently shown by IVF

Our 28 September catalogue capture shows Long Range, Performance and Launch Edition, all labelled 100kWh. Long Range is listed as 300kW, while Performance and Launch Edition are listed as 553kW with all-wheel drive. These are the names to use when requesting comparable quotations. A catalogue listing is a ratebook entry, so it does not establish a particular vehicle’s location, production slot or delivery date.

MG’s UK launch material also distinguishes the IM6 from the IM5 saloon. Do not assume that a smaller battery mentioned in combined IM5 and IM6 publicity is an IM6 option: the UK IM6 launch specification identifies the larger battery across its three versions. Ask for the current UK specification sheet and model year alongside your quote, especially where a funder uses a shortened derivative description.

Charging an IM6 between appointments

For longer trips, plan a stop around a reliable site on the actual route and identify a second location before setting off. Battery temperature, arrival charge, weather, charger capability and shared site power all affect the session. A peak charging figure cannot tell you the total stop, including queuing and leaving the motorway. Ask the supplying retailer to explain battery preconditioning and route planning on the software version fitted.

We have not applied an advertised driving-range or rapid-charge time to every IVF IM6 entry. The exact wheel, trim and model-year match needs to be established first. When comparing quotes, request the relevant WLTP combined figure and charging conditions together. Use those as standardised benchmarks, then leave room for winter weather, motorway speed, passengers and luggage rather than planning to arrive with no reserve.

Cabin technology that helps rather than distracts

A technology-heavy SUV needs a proper familiarisation drive. Pair your own phone, try the navigation, adjust the temperature and find the functions you use after dark. Test the interface while stationary first. If several employees may drive the car, ask how profiles, saved destinations and digital access are managed so the handover between drivers is straightforward.

Check rear-seat comfort with the people who will travel there. A business owner who regularly takes clients may want to prioritise easy access and an unobstructed seating position over decorative features. Families should check child-seat installation and whether the boot holds the usual pushchair or sports bags without rearranging everything. Those are demonstration tasks, not assumptions to make from an SUV badge.

IM6, MGS6 or MG4: three different reasons to lease

Choose the IM6 shortlist when the premium SUV cabin and long-distance role justify the vehicle’s size. Compare the MGS6 if you want to remain within MG’s electric SUV range and would like to test a different balance of cabin, equipment and exterior dimensions. The MG4 takes the discussion towards an electric hatchback. It is a useful comparison when a large SUV is more car than the journey requires.

The MGS9 sits elsewhere in this decision because it is a seven-seat plug-in hybrid. If regular third-row use is the starting requirement, make that clear before asking for IM6 quotes. A similar badge does not make two vehicles substitutes. Likewise, the IM5 is the saloon-shaped alternative within the premium IM line; assess its access and luggage arrangement separately if that body style appeals.

Warranty and running commitments for a high-mileage IM6

MG’s seven-year or 80,000-mile warranty is a time-and-distance limit, subject to its terms. A driver covering substantial business mileage can reach the distance limit while plenty of calendar cover appears to remain. Calculate the expected mileage at return and compare that with the warranty start date and any mileage already recorded on the supplied vehicle.

Ask separately about tyre replacement, routine servicing, roadside support and accident repair. These are different responsibilities and are not all covered because a car has a manufacturer warranty. On a performance-focused derivative, obtain an insurance quotation for that exact version before committing. If a maintenance package is offered, request its treatment of tyres and exclusions in writing.

For a different MG body or product, compare MG IM5 leasing and the separate MG4 Urban leasing route. Confirm each model’s specification independently.

MG IM6 company-car tax across the lease

For an IM6 company car, the zero-emission percentage is only one part of the calculation. Confirm the P11D value including relevant options, then consider each tax year the agreement will cover. A more powerful version does not attract a different zero-emission percentage simply because it accelerates faster; its P11D value can still change the tax payable.

For an employee or director with private use, the taxable benefit normally starts with the car’s P11D value multiplied by the applicable BiK percentage. Personal tax then depends on the individual’s income tax rate and any relevant adjustments. The percentage is not the tax rate applied to the lease rental. A sole trader’s own business car use follows different rules.

The agreement can cross several tax years. Compare the whole path, not just the percentage in the year the car arrives.

Tax information checked 28 September 2026 against the C1 ledger and its primary sources. Tax treatment depends on individual circumstances and may change; consult your accountant.

Road tax and costs across the term

Vehicle Excise Duty (VED). For 2026/27, the standard annual VED payment after the first year is £200 before any supplement. First-year VED depends on CO2 and registration rules; zero-emission cars currently have a £10 first-year rate. These cash rates apply to 2026/27 only; later annual VED rates are not confirmed here. Ask how the funder treats tax increases during your agreement.

Expensive Car Supplement. The Expensive Car Supplement is £440 a year in 2026/27 for five years from the second licence. The list-price threshold is more than £40,000 for petrol, diesel and hybrid cars, or more than £50,000 for qualifying zero-emission cars registered from 1 April 2025. Use the published list price before discounts, including relevant options, and check the registration date. Plug-in hybrids do not receive the electric-car threshold. GOV.UK explains VED and the supplement.

Planned eVED. The government plans Electric Vehicle Excise Duty (eVED) from April 2028, alongside VED: 3p per mile for electric cars and 1.5p per mile for plug-in hybrids. This is proposed for April 2028, subject to legislation and implementation; it is not a charge currently in force. The stated rates are planned starting rates, with CPI uprating proposed from 2029/30 and later cash rates not confirmed. An agreement spanning introduction needs the funder’s written treatment of the charge and later changes. Check the government’s consultation response and final implementation guidance before committing.

VAT and the business accounts

VAT-registered businesses can normally reclaim 50% of the VAT on qualifying car rentals where private use is available, depending on circumstances and the normal VAT rules. Full rental-VAT recovery requires exclusive business use with no private availability. Maintenance can fall outside the rental block when it is genuinely optional, separately described in the contract and separately quantified on the invoice; recovery remains subject to normal VAT rules. Read HMRC’s motoring VAT guidance.

A zero-emission car is not subject to the CO2-based lease-rental restriction. Check HMRC’s car-hire deduction rules.

For accounting periods beginning on or after 1 January 2026, revised FRS 102 generally requires a right-of-use asset and lease liability for lessees, including small companies using Section 1A. FRS 105 lease accounting for eligible micro-entities was not changed in the same way. Contract hire therefore does not universally keep a car off the balance sheet. Ask your accountant to apply the right framework; HMRC summarises the accounting standards.

Flat Rate Scheme users generally cannot reclaim VAT on recurring car-hire payments. Ask your accountant which VAT regime applies before using the recovery examples above.

Build the quotation around the way you will use it

Tell IVF your annual mileage, regular passengers, essential equipment, charging access where relevant and preferred timing. Ask for the precise model year, derivative, options and registration status to be written into the quotation. The catalogue is a starting point; the offered vehicle and funder terms need confirmation.

Business Contract Hire is taken by the business; Personal Contract Hire is taken by the private individual. Both are subject to status and individual funder criteria. Compare the initial rental, term, mileage, maintenance and applicable fees on the same basis. An initial rental is part of the hire cost, not refundable security or ownership equity.

A manufacturer warranty starts under the supplied car’s warranty terms, normally from first registration. Its time and mileage limits may finish before your lease does. It is separate from optional servicing and tyre cover. Confirm maintenance inclusions, insurance responsibilities, tax provisions and early-termination terms before signing.

At the end of contract hire, return the vehicle; there is no contractual purchase option. Excess mileage, damage beyond the funder’s fair wear and tear standard, missing equipment or other contractual charges may still be payable. Check the return process before choosing your agreement.

MG IM6 leasing questions

Is the MG IM6 available in the UK?

MG markets the IM6 in the UK and IVF lists Long Range, Performance and Launch Edition derivatives. That establishes a current model and catalogue range, not stock or a delivery date. Request confirmation of the offered vehicle and timing.

Is IM6 part of MG or a separate leasing model?

IM is MG’s premium electric line. The IM6 is its SUV, while the IM5 is a separate saloon-shaped model. Tell IVF which body style and derivative you want so the quotation identifies the right vehicle.

Which IM6 battery does IVF list?

The captured IVF range labels all three IM6 versions as 100kWh. MG’s UK launch material also identifies 100kWh for the IM6 range. Battery choices advertised across both IM models must not automatically be treated as IM6 choices.

Should I compare Long Range and Performance?

Yes, if both meet your cabin and journey needs. Start with Long Range for the distance-focused brief, then test whether the Performance version provides something you value enough to change the specification and running commitments.

Can I business lease an MG IM6?

IVF can assess an IM6 Business Contract Hire enquiry through its funder panel, subject to status and availability. Employee or director private use normally creates a company-car benefit; the tax calculation uses P11D value, not the monthly rental.

Can a private driver lease the IM6?

Personal Contract Hire is the private-driver route. Set the mileage around your commute and other journeys, confirm your charging arrangements and compare the complete contract terms before choosing a derivative.

Does the IM6 replace the MGS9 for seven-seat use?

Do not treat them as equivalent. MGS9 is a seven-seat plug-in hybrid and should be compared when a third row is a requirement. IM6 is the electric SUV discussion and needs its own seating and luggage assessment.

What warranty applies to an IM6?

MG publishes a seven-year or 80,000-mile warranty, whichever comes first, subject to terms. Check the supplied vehicle’s first-registration date, mileage and component conditions. Warranty is separate from routine maintenance and insurance.

How should I compare IM6 lease prices?

Use the prices in the vehicle grid as a starting point and ask for a written quote on the same derivative, term, mileage and maintenance basis. Confirm all applicable fees, tax treatment and return conditions together.

What should I send with an IM6 enquiry?

Send your preferred version, annual mileage, charging access, regular passenger needs and essential equipment. Include any fixed parking constraint. Those details let IVF compare suitable options without treating every IM6 as interchangeable.
