Intelligent Vehicle Finance helps you compare MG ZS petrol and Hybrid+ leasing for business or personal use. MG UK currently lists both powertrains. Older ZS EV entries also appear in our catalogue, so confirm the generation and supplied vehicle; explore MGS5 EV, MG4 or MGS6 for current electric alternatives.
Consider the current ZS when you need a family SUV without an external charging routine. Petrol and Hybrid+ give different driving experiences under the same badge. Start by deciding whether a manual petrol car suits the driver, or whether an automatic hybrid better matches repeated town journeys and changing traffic. Neither should be selected simply from the first rental figure in the grid.
For a small business, the useful question is how the ZS will actually be allocated: a named company-car driver, a shared staff vehicle or a privately leased car. Those arrangements have different tax and administrative consequences. For a household, test the passenger space with the driver’s normal seat position and the luggage that accompanies a busy weekend. A taller body does not automatically settle child-seat fit or loading convenience.
Discuss your vehicle requirements
MG ZS and two alternatives: different reasons to choose
| Model | Main reason to consider it | Decision to make |
|---|---|---|
| MG ZS | Petrol or non-plug-in Hybrid+ family SUV | Choose powertrain and equipment without a charging requirement |
| MGS5 EV | Separate electric SUV | Establish dependable charging access |
| MG4 | Electric hatchback alternative | Test whether its body layout suits the same journeys |
The IVF capture on 28 September 2026 showed petrol 1.5 SE, Hybrid+ SE, Hybrid+ Trophy and Hybrid+ Trophy Pan Roof entries. Alongside them were ZS EV SE and Trophy records with 51kWh and 73kWh battery labels. Those older electric entries need a specific availability and registration check. MG’s current UK model navigation promotes ZS petrol and Hybrid+, with newer electric alternatives elsewhere in the range.
This distinction matters if your search began with “electric MG ZS”. Ask IVF whether a particular ZS EV entry corresponds to a vehicle that can actually be supplied, and request its full specification rather than transferring current Hybrid+ equipment onto it. If your objective is a current electric SUV, start with the MGS5 EV page, then assess MGS6 if your space brief calls for it. MG4 provides a separate electric hatchback comparison.
A quotation should state whether the car is petrol, Hybrid+ or a specifically confirmed older electric derivative. It should also identify model year, gearbox, trim and any roof option. Save that description before comparing another offer. A similar-looking name can conceal a different generation, powertrain, registration date or warranty start date, all of which matter more than a small difference between headline rentals.
Hybrid+ combines petrol and electric propulsion without a charging cable. That can fit drivers whose parking changes often or whose home cannot accommodate a charger. It should not be confused with a plug-in hybrid or treated as offering the tax position of a fully electric car. The engine remains part of the journey, and the vehicle’s certified emissions determine its company-car band.
On a test drive, include the roads the ZS will see most: stop-start traffic, a hill start, joining a faster road and the final parking manoeuvre. Notice the transition between propulsion sources and how the automatic transmission responds to an overtaking request. For a petrol manual, check clutch and gearshift comfort in the same conditions. These are individual preferences; a specification table cannot choose the driver’s preferred behaviour.
Write down the items that make a material difference to your journeys before discussing a trim upgrade. Reversing assistance, seat comfort, wheel and tyre specification, cabin heating and phone integration are sensible checks. Confirm each item on the quoted derivative. Do not assume that equipment shown in photographs or fitted to a showroom Trophy is standard on an SE.
The captured Pan Roof entry deserves a separate look if that feature matters. Sit in the rear with the roof and shade in their normal positions, then check headroom and how the cabin feels in bright weather. For drivers carrying children or pets, consider shade and ventilation arrangements during ordinary travel. A feature can be attractive without improving every user’s experience; give the decision a practical reason.
The ZS case is strongest when petrol or a non-plug-in hybrid meets the daily brief. MGS5 EV changes the question to an electric SUV with a charging plan. MG4 offers a hatchback layout; MGS6 is another SUV to assess when the cabin brief is different. The linked pages let you pursue those tasks separately, rather than stretching a ZS comparison to cover every MG powertrain.
To make the comparison useful, keep annual mileage and contract length the same, then add insurance, servicing, energy and likely tax changes. A company-car driver should see their personal benefit calculation separately from the business’s rental and VAT position. A private driver should focus on the complete personal contract and their own running pattern. Neither route makes an electric or hybrid badge a universal answer.
MG ZS petrol and Hybrid+ use CO2-based company-car rules. The conditional examples below show how certified emissions change the result; they are not assigned to every catalogue entry. An individually confirmed ZS EV instead needs a separate zero-emission calculation.
For an employee or director with private use, the taxable benefit normally starts with the car’s P11D value multiplied by the applicable BiK percentage. Personal tax then depends on the individual’s income tax rate and any relevant adjustments. The percentage is not the tax rate applied to the lease rental. A sole trader’s own business car use follows different rules.
The agreement can cross several tax years. Compare the whole path, not just the percentage in the year the car arrives.
Company-car BiK benchmarks, 2026/27 to 2029/30
| Tax specification | 2026/27 | 2027/28 | 2028/29 | 2029/30 |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Petrol/non-plug-in hybrid certified at 115-119g/km | 29% | 29% | 30% | 31% |
| Petrol/non-plug-in hybrid certified at 145-149g/km | 35% | 35% | 36% | 37% |
These are conditional tax bands, not assigned rates for every MG ZS. Confirm the supplied car’s P11D, certified CO2, fuel type and registration date. Diesel supplements can apply where the required emissions certification is absent, subject to the annual maximum.
Use our company-car BiK guide alongside HMRC’s 2026/27 and 2027/28 tables and the published 2028/29 and 2029/30 changes. Tax information checked 28 September 2026 against the C1 ledger and its primary sources. Tax treatment depends on individual circumstances and may change; consult your accountant.
Vehicle Excise Duty (VED). For 2026/27, the standard annual VED payment after the first year is £200 before any supplement. First-year VED depends on CO2 and registration rules; zero-emission cars currently have a £10 first-year rate. These cash rates apply to 2026/27 only; later annual VED rates are not confirmed here. Ask how the funder treats tax increases during your agreement.
Expensive Car Supplement. The Expensive Car Supplement is currently £440 a year for five years from the second licence. The list-price threshold is more than £40,000 for petrol, diesel and hybrid cars, or more than £50,000 for qualifying zero-emission cars registered from 1 April 2025. Use the published list price before discounts, including relevant options, and check the registration date. Plug-in hybrids do not receive the electric-car threshold. GOV.UK explains VED and the supplement.
Planned eVED. The government plans Electric Vehicle Excise Duty (eVED) from April 2028, alongside VED: 3p per mile for electric cars and 1.5p per mile for plug-in hybrids. This is proposed for April 2028, subject to legislation and implementation; it is not a charge currently in force. The stated rates are planned starting rates, with CPI uprating proposed from 2029/30 and later cash rates not confirmed. An agreement spanning introduction needs the funder’s written treatment of the charge and later changes. Check the government’s consultation response and final implementation guidance before committing. The non-plug-in MG ZS powertrain discussed here is outside those planned electric and plug-in hybrid categories.
Talk through the car and the agreement
VAT-registered businesses can normally reclaim 50% of the VAT on qualifying car rentals where private use is available, depending on circumstances and the normal VAT rules. Full rental-VAT recovery requires exclusive business use with no private availability. Maintenance can fall outside the rental block when it is genuinely optional, separately described in the contract and separately quantified on the invoice; recovery remains subject to normal VAT rules. Read HMRC’s motoring VAT guidance.
Businesses using the VAT Flat Rate Scheme do not normally recover input VAT on recurring car hire. The separate capital-goods exception does not turn hire invoices into a vehicle purchase. Check HMRC’s Flat Rate Scheme guidance.
The hire-cost rules normally disallow 15% of otherwise deductible rentals for cars above 50 g/km, subject to their scope and exceptions. A company-car BiK easement does not establish relief from this restriction. Check HMRC’s car-hire deduction rules.
For accounting periods beginning on or after 1 January 2026, revised FRS 102 generally requires a right-of-use asset and lease liability for lessees, including small companies using Section 1A. FRS 105 lease accounting for eligible micro-entities was not changed in the same way. Contract hire therefore does not universally keep a car off the balance sheet. Ask your accountant to apply the right framework; HMRC summarises the accounting standards.
Tell IVF your annual mileage, regular passengers, essential equipment, charging access where relevant and preferred timing. Ask for the precise model year, derivative, options and registration status to be written into the quotation. The catalogue is a starting point; the offered vehicle and funder terms need confirmation.
Business Contract Hire is taken by the business; Personal Contract Hire is taken by the private individual. Both are subject to status and individual funder criteria. Compare the initial rental, term, mileage, maintenance and applicable fees on the same basis. An initial rental is part of the hire cost, not refundable security or ownership equity.
A manufacturer warranty starts under the supplied car’s warranty terms, normally from first registration. Its time and mileage limits may finish before your lease does. It is separate from optional servicing and tyre cover. Confirm maintenance inclusions, insurance responsibilities, tax provisions and early-termination terms before signing.
At the end of contract hire, return the vehicle; there is no contractual purchase option. Excess mileage, damage beyond the funder’s fair wear and tear standard, missing equipment or other contractual charges may still be payable. Check the return process before choosing your agreement.

Ready to refine your shortlist?
MG UK currently markets the ZS in petrol and Hybrid+ forms. Older ZS EV records remain visible in the IVF catalogue and require an individual sourcing check. MGS5 EV, MG4 and MGS6 are separate electric models with their own pages and specifications.
No external charging cable is required for Hybrid+. It is a non-plug-in petrol-electric hybrid, not a battery-electric car or a plug-in hybrid. Assess its behaviour on your normal roads and use the exact certified emissions when considering company-car taxation.
The capture includes petrol SE, Hybrid+ SE, Hybrid+ Trophy and Trophy Pan Roof, plus older ZS EV derivatives. Confirm the powertrain, generation and equipment in the written quotation. The presence of a row is not evidence that a particular vehicle is allocated to you.
That needs a direct availability check. Do not infer supply from a retained catalogue record or apply the current ZS Hybrid+ specification to it. Ask for the exact vehicle, registration status and warranty commencement; consider current MG electric alternatives alongside any confirmed proposal.
Choose from equipment you will use rather than the trim name alone. Compare seating, parking assistance, wheels and any roof option on the exact cars quoted. Try the controls and rear seats before deciding, because the demonstration vehicle may have different equipment.
It can be considered where its passenger space and non-plug-in powertrain match the job. Petrol and Hybrid+ still use emissions-based company-car bands. Separate the employee’s BiK calculation from the employer’s rental, VAT and maintenance costs, and check the multi-year position with an accountant.
ZS petrol and Hybrid+ avoid an external charging routine. MGS5 EV is a separate electric SUV that needs a charging plan and has its own equipment and tax position. Test both against the same passenger and luggage requirements rather than assuming one directly substitutes for the other.
MG states seven years or 80,000 miles for the relevant ZS models, subject to warranty conditions. Check the supplied car’s start date, service requirements and component exclusions. This does not make servicing, tyres or all repairs part of the lease maintenance package.
Use the grid as a starting point, then request matching written quotations for term, mileage, initial rental and maintenance. Confirm VAT presentation and applicable fees. A petrol SE and Hybrid+ Trophy are different vehicles, so first decide whether both satisfy your essential equipment brief.
Bring your expected annual mileage, usual passengers, parking situation and must-have equipment. Specify whether you want petrol, Hybrid+ or an individually checked ZS EV. Include preferred timing without treating it as a delivery promise, then review the complete contract before committing.
Bring your passenger, journey and equipment requirements. We can help turn them into a clear vehicle and contract brief.
