Citroen leasing: make the shortlist work for your week

Citroen makes particular sense as a shortlist when comfort and access are the reasons for changing cars. A household carrying children every day has a different requirement from a business moving colleagues between sites. Start by writing down who travels, what comes with them and where the car must park. That gives C3, C5 Aircross and the sliding-door passenger models distinct jobs instead of treating each as another equipment level.

Compare an SUV and passenger carrier with every required seat occupied. A larger SpaceTourer can be unnecessary for light use; an occasional SUV third row can leave insufficient space for everyone’s bags.

Citroen and DS are separate brands. This page concentrates on Citroen’s small cars, family comfort and passenger layouts. If cabin finish and the DS-specific model range are central to the choice, use the DS comparison separately; shared group ownership does not make their interiors, equipment or agreements equivalent.

Citroen leasing: key facts

  1. Current electric C3 Aircross seats five; selected petrol and Hybrid versions offer seven.
  2. The current electric C3 Aircross body is 4,395 mm long.
  3. Current C5 Aircross boot measurements are 651 litres by water volume or 565 litres VDA; these are different methods.
  4. Current electric C5 Aircross Comfort Range has a 73.7 kWh usable battery; earlier cars require their own specification.
  5. Citroen’s standard passenger warranty is three years, with unlimited mileage in years one and two and a total 60,000-mile third-year limit.
  6. We Care is separate service-activated coverage, subject to eligibility, servicing and exclusions.

Choose the Citroen powertrain for your driving

C3 offers a useful first separation between refuelling and charging. The electric version’s Standard Range battery is 44 kWh in the current UK specification. Other catalogue entries can carry different battery descriptions, so establish which car is being quoted before considering a longer trip. A petrol or Hybrid C3 should be assessed by its own emissions and fuel use, rather than by the electric car’s tax treatment.

In C3 Aircross, powertrain also affects the passenger brief. The electric version has five seats, while selected petrol and Hybrid versions offer seven. An electric badge and a higher equipment grade cannot supply a missing third row. Ask to see the actual seating specification and examine luggage room with that row occupied.

C4 and C4 X should be compared on their rear openings as well as propulsion. A hatchback can be easier for a bulky object even when another car’s published volume appears attractive. The retained catalogue includes 50 kWh Standard Range and 54 kWh Extended Range electric labels alongside Hybrid choices. These labels are not usable-capacity or distance promises.

For C5 X, the Hybrid 145 entries in the current catalogue must not inherit the plug-in specification of an earlier car. A plug-in has a separate charging task; a non-plug-in hybrid does not. Write the full engine and transmission description into the enquiry rather than relying on the word Hybrid.

Citroen business leasing

For a staff-car policy, decide whether Citroen’s comfort-led family body or a passenger carrier solves the working task. A C4 used for visits and a Berlingo carrying people and equipment can require different insurance descriptions and servicing arrangements. A pool car’s availability for private journeys also matters independently of how often it is actually driven privately. Give the accountant the intended allocation and the vehicle documents.

A business passenger requirement should specify seats that remain available after equipment is loaded. Converted Berlingo layouts need the completed converter specification, including approved seating and access equipment. Neither a passenger-car brochure nor a commercial Berlingo description proves the final conversion’s capacity. Discuss that requirement before comparing quotations.

VAT-registered businesses can normally reclaim 50% of the VAT on qualifying car rentals where private use is available, depending on circumstances and the normal VAT rules. Full rental-VAT recovery requires exclusive business use with no private availability. Maintenance can fall outside the rental block when it is genuinely optional, separately described in the contract and separately quantified on the invoice; recovery remains subject to normal VAT rules. Read HMRC’s motoring VAT guidance.

The hire-cost rules normally disallow 15% of otherwise deductible rentals for cars above 50 g/km, subject to their scope and exceptions. A company-car BiK easement does not establish relief from this restriction. Check HMRC’s car-hire deduction rules.

For accounting periods beginning on or after 1 January 2026, revised FRS 102 generally requires a right-of-use asset and lease liability for lessees, including small companies using Section 1A. FRS 105 lease accounting for eligible micro-entities was not changed in the same way. Contract hire therefore does not universally keep a car off the balance sheet. Ask your accountant to apply the right framework; HMRC summarises the accounting standards.

Flat Rate Scheme users generally cannot reclaim VAT on recurring car-hire payments. Ask your accountant which VAT regime applies before using the recovery examples above.

Citroen personal leasing

For personal hire, try the Citroen on the tasks that are awkward in your current car. Put the child seat through the door, lift the pushchair into the boot and adjust the front seat as you normally drive. A short showroom visit with empty rear seats can hide the access problem you are trying to solve.

The C5 Aircross generation deserves special attention. Earlier cars used three individual sliding rear seats; the newer body uses a rear bench. If independent adjustment is the attraction, do not accept a newer model description as confirmation of that older feature. Compare the actual seat layout before choosing comfort or appearance packs.

Citroen company-car tax across the lease

A Citroen company-car calculation follows the supplied vehicle and its private availability. Use the complete four-year schedule below with the actual P11D and certified emissions, rather than treating a model badge as a tax category.

The following retained illustration uses the 10 September 2026 catalogue snapshot. It assumes a full year, 40% personal income tax and no contributions or adjustments. It is not a vehicle quotation, employer cost or like-for-like saving.

Dated 2026/27 personal-tax illustration: 10 September catalogue inputs
Listed derivativeP11DTax basisBiKTax at 40%

Electric C3 83kW Max 44kWh£23,750Zero-emission electric4%£380.00

The annual benefit is the P11D value multiplied by the applicable percentage; the driver pays their income tax rate on that benefit. Sole traders need their own business-use assessment. Confirm the offered car and the tax year before relying on these historical inputs.

Petrol/hybrid, certified 110-114 g/km28%28%29%30%

These are conditional tax bands, not assigned rates for every Citroen. Confirm the supplied car’s P11D, certified CO2, fuel type and registration date. Diesel supplements can apply where the required emissions certification is absent, subject to the annual maximum.

The electric-mile figures above are HMRC band thresholds, not promises of this car’s driving range. Newer plug-in hybrid certification can show more than 50 g/km. A temporary company-car easement may treat an eligible car as 1 g/km where the registration date, electric range and Euro-status conditions are met; it is not automatic and must not be transferred to lease-rental deductions. Check the vehicle documents and HMRC’s plug-in hybrid conditions with your accountant.

Use our company-car BiK guide alongside HMRC’s 2026/27 and 2027/28 tables and the published 2028/29 and 2029/30 changes. Tax information checked 27 September 2026 against the C1 ledger and its primary sources. Tax treatment depends on individual circumstances and may change; consult your accountant.

Road tax and costs across the term

Vehicle Excise Duty (VED). For 2026/27, the standard annual VED payment after the first year is £200 before any supplement. First-year VED depends on CO2 and registration rules; zero-emission cars currently have a £10 first-year rate. These cash rates apply to 2026/27 only; later annual VED rates are not confirmed here. Ask how the funder treats tax increases during your agreement.

Expensive Car Supplement. The Expensive Car Supplement is £440 a year in 2026/27 for five years from the second licence. The list-price threshold is more than £40,000 for petrol, diesel and hybrid cars, or more than £50,000 for qualifying zero-emission cars registered from 1 April 2025. Use the published list price before discounts, including relevant options, and check the registration date. Plug-in hybrids do not receive the electric-car threshold. GOV.UK explains VED and the supplement.

Planned eVED. The government plans Electric Vehicle Excise Duty (eVED) from April 2028, alongside VED: 3p per mile for electric cars and 1.5p per mile for plug-in hybrids. This is proposed for April 2028, subject to legislation and implementation; it is not a charge currently in force. The stated rates are planned starting rates, with CPI uprating proposed from 2029/30 and later cash rates not confirmed. An agreement spanning introduction needs the funder’s written treatment of the charge and later changes. Check the government’s consultation response and final implementation guidance before committing.

Plan fuel and charging around your Citroen

For current UK ë-C3 Standard Range, Collection and Max have 44 kWh batteries and respective 202- and 201-mile WLTP combined benchmarks. Citroen quotes 26 minutes for 20–80% at a suitable 100 kW DC source. Urban Range is a separate 30 kWh choice. Match year, grade and wheels; weather, speed, starting charge and battery temperature change real results.

Current electric C3 Aircross has 169–190 miles WLTP combined with 44 kWh Standard Range or 248–249 miles with 54 kWh Extended Range. The corresponding 20–80% benchmarks at 100 kW DC are 26 and 28 minutes. These current five-seat specifications do not apply to earlier BlueHDi or other catalogue generations; verify the exact supplied version and charging conditions.

Current C5 Aircross Comfort Range Plus has 73.7 kWh usable capacity, 79.9 kWh gross, and a 322-mile WLTP combined benchmark. The 20–80% quoted session is 30 minutes at 160 kW DC. Match its current UK model year, battery, motor and wheels; earlier diesel or Plug-in Hybrid 225 entries are different cars. Laboratory range and charging benchmarks require a real-world reserve.

For larger passenger Citroens, plan stops around the people as well as the battery. Check access to a suitable charger and allow for a loaded journey. Petrol and diesel alternatives need their own fuel estimate; a plug-in assessment should include both regularly charged trips and longer petrol running.

Citroen warranty and servicing

Citroen’s UK standard passenger-car warranty provides three years of cover: the first two have unlimited mileage and the third is subject to a total 60,000 miles. The registration date and exact warranty terms govern the car offered. A lease extending beyond that period needs a separate decision about the cover remaining.

We Care is a conditional extension activated by qualifying Citroen authorised servicing. Eligible registrations from 1 June 2025 can receive coverage up to eight years or 100,000 miles, whichever comes first, with specified components and exclusions. Ami is excluded. Keep the service schedule and eligibility documents with the agreement instead of treating an eight-year headline as automatic whole-car protection.

Battery cover, routine servicing and tyres have their own terms. If optional maintenance is being compared, ask whether the proposed workshop arrangements preserve the conditions of any service-activated coverage. An included service and a covered manufacturing fault are different provisions.

The Citroen checks to make before choosing equipment

Current C5 Aircross luggage figures illustrate why measurement methods matter: 651 litres by water volume and 565 litres VDA describe the same quoted body using different methods. Do not compare the larger number directly with another manufacturer’s VDA result and call the difference usable extra space. Check the parcel-shelf limit, rear seating and actual shape of your cases. Earlier sliding-seat C5 Aircross bodies quoted 580–720 litres for petrol/diesel or 460–600 litres for plug-ins as seats moved. Those historical volumes do not transfer to the newer 40/20/40 bench.

Berlingo M and XL, and SpaceTourer M and XL, need a complete passenger specification. Confirm the fitted seats, their adjustment or removal arrangements and the loading space left when they are occupied. Diesel, petrol and electric descriptions vary across these routes, and an accessibility conversion must be checked as the completed vehicle. Listed Berlingo electric versions carry 52 kWh labels; Ami entries include 6 kW My Ami Peps and Buggy descriptions, with separate classification checks.

Ami is an electric quadricycle, not a conventional family car. Holidays serves a leisure-accommodation task. Each needs its own classification, licensing, insurance and agreement discussion; the ordinary company-car illustrations below do not settle either vehicle’s treatment. Keep these enquiries explicit so that a car quotation does not become an assumption about another vehicle class.

How IVF quotes your Citroen lease

Tell IVF your annual mileage, regular passengers, essential equipment, charging access where relevant and preferred timing. Ask for the precise model year, derivative, options and registration status to be written into the quotation. The catalogue is a starting point; the offered vehicle and funder terms need confirmation.

Business Contract Hire is taken by the business; Personal Contract Hire is taken by the private individual. Both are subject to status and individual funder criteria. Compare the initial rental, term, mileage, maintenance and applicable fees on the same basis. An initial rental is part of the hire cost, not refundable security or ownership equity.

A manufacturer warranty starts under the supplied car’s warranty terms, normally from first registration. Its time and mileage limits may finish before your lease does. It is separate from optional servicing and tyre cover. Confirm maintenance inclusions, insurance responsibilities, tax provisions and early-termination terms before signing.

At the end of contract hire, return the vehicle; there is no contractual purchase option. Excess mileage, damage beyond the funder’s fair wear and tear standard, missing equipment or other contractual charges may still be payable. Check the return process before choosing your agreement.

Useful next steps

Compare the Citroen passenger layout with another vehicle carrying the same people and bags. C5 Aircross and Renault Scenic E-Tech can inform an electric family-car shortlist; SpaceTourer and Volkswagen Multivan address a different access and seating decision. Use the DS manufacturer page when you want to investigate that separate brand’s cabin and model choices. Explore DS leasing.

Citroen leasing questions

How should I compare Citroen lease deals?

Begin with the body, generation and seats, then compare identical mileage, term and maintenance assumptions. A C3 Aircross seven-seat brief and a five-seat electric brief lead to different cars. IVF needs the actual derivative before checking supply and a complete quotation.

Which Citroen should a business shortlist?

A C4 or C5 Aircross may suit an individual driver, while Berlingo and SpaceTourer address passenger access and group travel. Specify the occupants, equipment and private availability first. A converted vehicle needs its completed seating and insurance details.

Can an electric C3 Aircross carry seven people?

The current UK electric version seats five. Seven-seat configurations belong to selected petrol and Hybrid versions. Confirm the quoted seating layout rather than assuming that a higher grade adds the extra row.

Why does the C5 Aircross generation matter?

The earlier three individual sliding rear seats and the newer rear bench offer different adjustment. Battery and luggage specifications also change. If a particular seating feature is essential, require it in the vehicle description before choosing the equipment grade.

Are C4 and C4 X interchangeable for luggage?

No. Their rear openings create different loading tasks. Try the bulky items you actually carry, with the rear seats positioned for passengers, before using a published volume to decide. Then choose the matching electric or combustion version.

Does Hybrid 145 mean plug-in hybrid?

Do not make that assumption. The listed C5 X Hybrid 145 versions need their own powertrain confirmation and must not inherit an earlier plug-in’s battery or tax figures. Ask whether the specific car uses an external charging connection.

What does Citroen We Care require?

Eligibility and qualifying authorised servicing activate specified additional coverage after the standard warranty. The programme has age, mileage and component limits, with Ami excluded. Keep its terms separate from the original warranty and optional lease maintenance.

How do I compare Berlingo and SpaceTourer?

Fix the passenger count, body length and occupied-seat luggage requirement. Examine door access and the exact seating installation. If the vehicle has been converted, obtain the converter’s final specification as well as the base vehicle details.

Do the tax examples cover Ami and Holidays?

No. The retained illustrations are ordinary passenger-car examples. Quadricycle and leisure-vehicle classification, intended use and funder terms need separate assessment before applying a tax or agreement assumption.

What information makes a Citroen quotation useful?

Send the model and generation, required seats, annual mileage, charging access and changeover date. Include any essential conversion or equipment. Ask for supply, maintenance exclusions and the full hire commitment to be confirmed for that precise vehicle.
