An Omoda enquiry can look straightforward until Knight or Noble appears beside several different energy systems. The grade is useful, but it does not identify whether you need a charger or which company-car rules apply. Begin with petrol, full hybrid, plug-in hybrid or battery-electric, then compare equipment within the relevant model. That creates a consistent basis for the quotation.
The range is particularly useful to compare for a five-seat SUV brief. Omoda 5 offers several powertrain directions, Omoda 7 includes petrol and plug-in choices, and Omoda 9 combines a larger five-seat cabin with plug-in AWD. A higher model number should not be read as an extra passenger row. State the number of occupants and the luggage they bring before choosing a body.
Omoda shares a wider group relationship with Chery and Jaecoo, but its customer task remains distinct. Use those brands as alternatives where the passenger arrangement changes, not as a source of interchangeable specification paragraphs or warranty assumptions. Every proposal needs the actual UK vehicle and the applicable current support terms.
Discuss the Omoda model and specification that fit your journeys.
| Model | Powertrain or body | What to settle before a quotation |
|---|---|---|
| Omoda 5 / E5 | Petrol, full hybrid or electric | Knight and Noble recur across powertrains; identify which car is offered. |
| Omoda 7 | Petrol or SHS-P plug-in hybrid | Specify Knight, Noble or Noble Tech together with the energy system. |
| Omoda 9 | Five-seat SHS-P AWD | Assess the 660-litre boot and five-place layout before output or equipment. |
UK range and IVF route checks: 27 September 2026. A live catalogue entry is not confirmation of stock, allocation or a delivery date.
Omoda’s UK 9 specification gives five seats, a 660-litre luggage compartment and a 1,500kg braked towing maximum. Those details can make it worth investigating for five people carrying substantial bags, but they do not create a sixth or seventh passenger place. Resolve that requirement before spending time comparing high-output or comfort equipment.
The towing number is an upper model-specific benchmark, not permission to tow every trailer of that weight in every loading condition. Obtain the exact supplied car’s approved towbar requirements, noseweight, payload and gross train limit. Passengers and luggage affect the loaded combination. If towing is central to the purchase, provide the real loaded trailer details to IVF so the proposal can be checked properly.
Omoda 7 SHS-P’s UK rear luggage figure is 590 litres, while the petrol 7 is quoted at 639 litres. Omoda 9’s 660 litres adds 70 litres over the 7 plug-in. Powertrain therefore changes the comparison as well as model number. Check the supplied year and configuration, the load opening and the seats you need. A pushchair fitting one specification does not prove it fits another equally well.
Omoda 5 listings include 1.6 petrol, 1.5T SHS-H full hybrid and 155kW electric entries with 61kWh battery labels. The electric model is also described as E5 in UK material. Knight and Noble can occur across those systems, so the proposal should repeat the powertrain rather than rely on the grade to carry that information.
Omoda 7 offers 1.6T petrol and 1.5T SHS-P plug-in entries. If your requirement is fully electric driving, a larger model number does not preserve the E5’s energy system. Keep the electric 5 in the shortlist or compare a different electric body elsewhere. For SHS-P, establish a charging routine and assess the petrol-assisted days as well as local charged travel.
Omoda 9 is a plug-in AWD proposition. It should be chosen for the passenger, load and driving requirements it actually meets, not merely because its combined petrol-and-electric range sounds attractive. That combined measure cannot supply the electric-only certification required for a plug-in company-car assessment. Request the exact UK year, powertrain, battery, wheels and equipment with the relevant technical data.
A business Omoda choice should identify the driver’s use before comparing SHS-H, SHS-P and electric. A full-hybrid 5 may answer a petrol-refuelling routine, while an E5 needs dependable charging. A 7 or 9 plug-in should have a practical charging plan alongside its passenger and luggage rationale. Do not let a shared Knight or Noble name hide these differences in the procurement record.
For private availability, the actual P11D and certified emissions determine the company-car benefit basis. Electric-only range becomes relevant for the qualifying plug-in bands, not for every hybrid. Compare the company’s hire commitment and VAT treatment separately from the employee’s tax. Give the accountant the precise specification and registration details, then resolve the current warranty category and maintenance scope for the proposed business use.
VAT-registered businesses can normally reclaim 50% of the VAT on qualifying car rentals where private use is available, depending on circumstances and the normal VAT rules. Full rental-VAT recovery requires exclusive business use with no private availability. Maintenance can fall outside the rental block when it is genuinely optional, separately described in the contract and separately quantified on the invoice; recovery remains subject to normal VAT rules. Read HMRC’s motoring VAT guidance.
Businesses using the VAT Flat Rate Scheme do not normally recover input VAT on recurring car hire. The separate capital-goods exception does not turn hire invoices into a vehicle purchase. Check HMRC’s Flat Rate Scheme guidance.
The hire-cost rules normally disallow 15% of otherwise deductible rentals for cars above 50 g/km, subject to their scope and exceptions. A company-car BiK easement does not establish relief from this restriction. Check HMRC’s car-hire deduction rules.
For accounting periods beginning on or after 1 January 2026, revised FRS 102 generally requires a right-of-use asset and lease liability for lessees, including small companies using Section 1A. FRS 105 lease accounting for eligible micro-entities was not changed in the same way. Contract hire therefore does not universally keep a car off the balance sheet. Ask your accountant to apply the right framework; HMRC summarises the accounting standards.
A household choosing Omoda 9 should be comfortable with five passenger places before considering the rest of its equipment. If occasional trips require more, compare a suitable alternative at the start. If five places are enough, try the rear seating and luggage together and check whether the larger body works in your everyday parking space.
For Omoda 5, decide whether charging fits your life before moving between electric, petrol and full-hybrid proposals. Omoda 7 SHS-P needs its own plug-in routine rather than an assumption carried over from another vehicle. Ask to demonstrate phone integration, the main controls and any assistance functions that matter to you. The personal agreement should cover realistic mileage, insurance, energy and optional maintenance; future software or an unconfirmed support service should not be essential to making the car usable.
These exact Omoda 5 electric and SHS-H entries show different tax bases within one model family. SHS-P versions need their own certified plug-in assessment. This is not a rental or overall savings comparison.
For private availability to an employee or director, start with the exact car’s P11D and the appropriate annual percentage, then apply the individual’s income tax rate and relevant adjustments. The hire payment is not the taxable benefit. Sole-trader use follows a different assessment. Compare every tax year crossed by the agreement with your accountant.
| Tax specification | 2026/27 | 2027/28 | 2028/29 | 2029/30 |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Zero-emission electric car | 4% | 5% | 7% | 9% |
| Qualifying PHEV, 1–50g/km, certified electric range 40–69 miles | 10% | 11% | 18% | 19% |
| Qualifying PHEV, 1–50g/km, certified electric range 70–129 miles | 7% | 8% | 18% | 19% |
| Petrol/full hybrid, certified 120–124g/km | 30% | 30% | 31% | 32% |
| Maximum petrol/qualifying diesel band | 37% | 37% | 38% | 39% |
These are conditional tax bands, not assigned rates for every Omoda. Confirm the supplied car’s P11D, certified CO2, fuel type and registration date. Diesel supplements can apply where the required emissions certification is absent, subject to the annual maximum.
The electric-mile figures above are HMRC band thresholds, not promises of this car’s driving range. Newer plug-in hybrid certification can show more than 50 g/km. A temporary company-car easement may treat an eligible car as 1 g/km where the registration date, electric range and Euro-status conditions are met; it is not automatic and must not be transferred to lease-rental deductions. Check the vehicle documents and HMRC’s plug-in hybrid conditions with your accountant.
Retained tax illustrations from the 10 September 2026 catalogue snapshot: a full year at 40% income tax, without employee contributions or other adjustments. These are dated examples for different cars, not current quotations, employer costs or a claim of overall savings. Obtain current P11D and certification for your supplied vehicle.

Use our company-car BiK guide alongside HMRC’s 2026/27 and 2027/28 tables and the published 2028/29 and 2029/30 changes. Tax information checked 27 September 2026 against the C1 ledger and its primary sources. Tax treatment depends on individual circumstances and may change; consult your accountant.
Ask for the exact Omoda vehicle details your accountant needs.
Vehicle Excise Duty (VED). For 2026/27, the standard annual VED payment after the first year is £200 before any supplement. First-year VED depends on CO2 and registration rules; zero-emission cars currently have a £10 first-year rate. These cash rates apply to 2026/27 only; later annual VED rates are not confirmed here. Ask how the funder treats tax increases during your agreement.
Expensive Car Supplement. The Expensive Car Supplement is currently £440 a year for five years from the second licence. The list-price threshold is more than £40,000 for petrol, diesel and hybrid cars, or more than £50,000 for qualifying zero-emission cars registered from 1 April 2025. Use the published list price before discounts, including relevant options, and check the registration date. Plug-in hybrids do not receive the electric-car threshold. GOV.UK explains VED and the supplement.
Planned eVED. The government plans Electric Vehicle Excise Duty (eVED) from April 2028, alongside VED: 3p per mile for electric cars and 1.5p per mile for plug-in hybrids. This is proposed for April 2028, subject to legislation and implementation; it is not a charge currently in force. The stated rates are planned starting rates, with CPI uprating proposed from 2029/30 and later cash rates not confirmed. An agreement spanning introduction needs the funder’s written treatment of the charge and later changes. Check the government’s consultation response and final implementation guidance before committing.
An E5 depends on charging, while SHS-H uses petrol without an external connection. SHS-P introduces both charging and petrol use. To compare them meaningfully, list the distances and locations in a normal week, including days away from your usual charging point. Use the energy arrangements available to you rather than a promotional best-case scenario.
For an electric or plug-in car, any numerical range and charging claim must be matched to the offered UK battery, motors, year, grade and wheels. A 61kWh catalogue label is not a statement of usable capacity or a promise of distance. Test-cycle figures need allowance for weather, road speed, load and heating, and a quoted peak charging rate does not describe a complete stop.
With Omoda 7 or 9 SHS-P, ask whether the regular parking situation makes charging convenient enough to become a habit. A plug-in kept away from chargers answers a different running-cost brief from one replenished routinely. For business users, agree how fuel and electricity expenses are recorded. For private drivers, include public charging when home charging is unavailable instead of assuming every unit of electricity costs the same.
Omoda’s UK headline is seven years or 100,000 miles, whichever comes first, under the applicable policy. The August 2026 Omoda and Jaecoo announcement extended specified component protection retrospectively for UK cars. The change makes an old launch summary insufficient, but does not remove every shorter component period, mileage condition or exclusion.
Obtain the current policy for the exact vehicle and intended use. Check high-voltage battery protection, any capacity threshold, required servicing and whether hire or rental classifications affect the proposed agreement. A statement about the whole-car headline should not be used as shorthand for every component or for optional maintenance. Where eligibility is unclear, get the relevant confirmation in writing before relying on it.
Identify the local workshop that will handle the car and clarify the route for assistance or warranty diagnosis. National partnership announcements do not establish the specific courtesy-car arrangement at your location. Ask about the actual service timetable, booking and any maintenance package included in the quotation. Insurance, tyres, energy, connected-service renewals and return-condition obligations remain separate costs and responsibilities unless the agreement expressly includes them.
Tell IVF your annual mileage, regular passengers, essential equipment, charging access where relevant and preferred timing. Ask for the precise model year, derivative, options and registration status to be written into the quotation. The catalogue is a starting point; the offered vehicle and funder terms need confirmation.
Business Contract Hire is taken by the business; Personal Contract Hire is taken by the private individual. Both are subject to status and individual funder criteria. Compare the initial rental, term, mileage, maintenance and applicable fees on the same basis. An initial rental is part of the hire cost, not refundable security or ownership equity.
A manufacturer warranty starts under the supplied car’s warranty terms, normally from first registration. Its time and mileage limits may finish before your lease does. It is separate from optional servicing and tyre cover. Confirm maintenance inclusions, insurance responsibilities, tax provisions and early-termination terms before signing.
At the end of contract hire, return the vehicle; there is no contractual purchase option. Excess mileage, damage beyond the funder’s fair wear and tear standard, missing equipment or other contractual charges may still be payable. Check the return process before choosing your agreement.
Use business car leasing, Business Contract Hire, Personal Contract Hire, company-car BiK guide, VAT on leasing, request a callback, electric car leasing, Show me the deals, MG MGS5, Jaecoo 7 SHS-P, Chery model range, Jaecoo model range to narrow your choice or discuss a quotation.
Ready to narrow the Omoda shortlist? Tell us your mileage and timing.
No. Knight is an equipment description used with different powertrains. Omoda 5 listings include petrol, full hybrid and electric, and Omoda 7 has petrol and plug-in choices. The quotation should name the energy system as well as the grade.
SHS-H is the full-hybrid description and does not require external charging. SHS-P denotes a plug-in system, whose stored electric use depends on charging. Their tax inputs and practical energy routines differ, even where similar equipment names appear.
The UK Omoda 9 is a five-seat vehicle. Its 660-litre boot does not imply a third passenger row. If six or seven places are essential, change the shortlist before selecting equipment; if five work, assess the actual luggage and access.
The published 1,500kg braked figure is a model benchmark subject to the exact approved vehicle and equipment. Check towbar, noseweight, payload and train-weight limits with occupants and luggage included. The headline alone does not approve a particular loaded combination.
The captured 7 range is petrol or SHS-P plug-in, not the same battery-electric proposition. If a BEV is essential, keep E5 in the comparison or look at another electric body. A higher model number does not preserve the powertrain.
No. It includes petrol-supported travel. The plug-in assessment needs certified electric-only range and CO2 for the precise derivative, plus P11D and relevant registration details. Ask your accountant to apply the conditional rules across the agreement’s tax years.
The UK announcement extended cover for specified components retrospectively. The seven-year/100,000-mile vehicle headline still has policy conditions and differing component limits. Read the current terms for the supplied car rather than assuming an older summary remains complete.
Defect cover and routine maintenance are separate. Ask what the optional lease maintenance package includes and what its exclusions are. Confirm battery, assistance and use eligibility independently, alongside insurance, energy and the funder’s return-condition obligations.
No. They are related brands with distinct models and UK documents. Compare them when they answer a different seating or body requirement, but obtain Omoda-specific equipment, certification, supply and support terms for an Omoda quotation.
Specify 5, 7 or 9, the energy system, required equipment and annual mileage. Add passengers, luggage, charging access and any towing requirement. IVF can then check the actual car and present complete business or personal hire terms on a consistent basis.
