An Audi shortlist is easier to build around the body you need than around a sequence of model numbers. A compact Sportback, an Avant estate and an SUV can each suit a business driver, but they differ in access, loading and road presence. Describe the regular passengers and what travels with them before moving into engine or battery choices.
For an executive car, A5 and A6 deserve a body-and-powertrain comparison. For an electric SUV, Q4 e-tron and Q6 e-tron create a different shortlist from the combustion and plug-in Q5. A large family may need to look at actual seating arrangements in Q7 or Q9, while Q8’s coupe-style proposition requires a separate assessment.
Audi lease deals should identify the generation as well as the model. Product changes can leave older descriptions beside newer ones in a catalogue. Current RS 5 plug-in hybrid information, for example, does not describe an earlier RS 5 Coupe or Sportback. A dedicated model page can help frame the question, but the quotation must identify the real car.
Use these Audi model pages to compare the body and powertrain that fit your brief. Catalogue presence is not confirmation of supply; the exact vehicle and agreement are checked at enquiry.
| Model page | Body and powertrain | Decision to make |
|---|---|---|
| A3 | Sportback and saloon; powertrain varies | Check body and plug-in availability against the exact current model. |
| A1 | Compact hatchback catalogue route | A small-car brief; current ordering and specific supply need confirmation. |
| Q2 | Compact SUV catalogue route | Compare the raised seating with A3; verify current supply. |
| Q3 | SUV and Sportback; generation-sensitive | Check plug-in or combustion specification and rear load access. |
| A5 | Executive Saloon and Avant | The current A4 replacement task; distinguish it from older A5 bodies. |
| RS 3 | Performance compact car | A separate engine and running-cost decision from ordinary A3. |
| Q4 e-tron | Electric SUV and Sportback | Choose the body before battery, wheels and charging specification. |
| Q5 | SUV and Sportback; includes plug-in hybrid | Separate TFSI e from electric Q6 e-tron. |
| A6 / A6 e-tron | Executive combustion and electric families | State body and powertrain; A6 e-tron data does not describe every A6. |
| Q6 e-tron | Electric SUV and Sportback | Compare passenger space and charging requirements with Q4 e-tron. |
| Q7 | Large SUV; powertrain and seats vary | Do not assume plug-in hybrid and seven-seat configurations are the same. |
| Q8 | Large coupe-style combustion SUV | Q8 e-tron is a distinct, discontinued electric model; compare Q6 for new electric enquiries. |
| e-tron GT | Electric grand tourer | Assess low seating and rear access before selecting performance. |
| RS 5 | Current plug-in hybrid Saloon and Avant | New generation differs from earlier Coupe and Sportback references. |
| Q9 | Large SUV; UK diesel mild-hybrid reference | UK page offers pre-order routes; confirm seating package and IVF timing. |
| RS e-tron GT | Electric performance grand tourer | Keep its derivative and insurance requirements distinct from ordinary e-tron GT. |
| RS 6 | Performance estate; UK new production ended | Audi says it no longer builds new RS 6 Avant cars for the UK; check specific supply. |
| A8 | Large saloon; confirm UK derivative | UK manufacturer range listing; IVF supply requires an enquiry. |
| A2 e-tron | Electric model listed by Audi UK | Confirm launch and ordering status before planning a lease. |
| Nuvolari | Model listed in Audi UK range navigation | Confirm production specification and UK ordering status. |
The comparison retains every checked Audi model route, including performance and legacy enquiries. Current manufacturer status takes precedence over a surviving listing. UK pre-order presentation for Q9 does not prove an IVF allocation, and RS 6 catalogue presence does not restore new UK production.
Audi’s electric e-tron families need their own battery and charging assessment. Q4 and Q6 are not interchangeable platforms, and A6 e-tron must be distinguished from combustion A6. Body shapes within a family can also change passenger access, loading and the applicable specification.
A plug-in hybrid can be useful where the driver recharges during a normal week and retains an engine for other journeys. Confirm the current model’s certified emissions and electric mileage rather than carrying forward a tax assumption from an earlier generation. The latest RS 5 also requires this precise treatment, alongside its performance-car considerations.
Petrol, diesel and mild-hybrid versions answer different operating patterns. Repeated short local journeys, sustained motorway travel and towing should all be stated in the brief. A quattro badge identifies an all-wheel-drive system in the relevant specification; it does not tell you whether the car is electric or which tax band applies.
For Audi business leasing, establish whether the car is an individual employee benefit, a director’s vehicle or a genuinely shared business resource. Charging access and passenger needs may differ between users. Ask the accountant to assess private availability, VAT and rental deductions separately from the driver’s BiK, using the precise derivative and agreement.
VAT-registered businesses can normally reclaim 50% of the VAT on qualifying car rentals where private use is available, depending on circumstances and the normal VAT rules. Full rental-VAT recovery requires exclusive business use with no private availability. Maintenance can fall outside the rental block when it is genuinely optional, separately described in the contract and separately quantified on the invoice; recovery remains subject to normal VAT rules. Read HMRC’s motoring VAT guidance.
The hire-cost rules normally disallow 15% of otherwise deductible rentals for cars above 50 g/km, subject to their scope and exceptions. A company-car BiK easement does not establish relief from this restriction. Check HMRC’s car-hire deduction rules.
For accounting periods beginning on or after 1 January 2026, revised FRS 102 generally requires a right-of-use asset and lease liability for lessees, including small companies using Section 1A. FRS 105 lease accounting for eligible micro-entities was not changed in the same way. Contract hire therefore does not universally keep a car off the balance sheet. Ask your accountant to apply the right framework; HMRC summarises the accounting standards.
Flat Rate Scheme users generally cannot reclaim VAT on recurring car-hire payments. Ask your accountant which VAT regime applies before using the recovery examples above.
Private Audi leasing should be built around the version you want to use for the full term. A Sportback roofline, an Avant tailgate and a conventional saloon boot create different practical compromises. Try the relevant body before selecting equipment because a trim upgrade cannot change the basic access arrangement.
For an S or RS enquiry, obtain an insurance quotation for the actual derivative and discuss tyre and maintenance responsibilities. Set realistic mileage for leisure as well as commuting. A company-car tax comparison may be interesting background, but it does not determine your PCH agreement.
A Q4 e-tron and a Q6 e-tron share the zero-emission percentage, but their P11D values need not match. A5, Q5 and performance plug-in derivatives require certified emissions and electric-mileage checks. Assess the whole tax-year path rather than applying one familiar Audi percentage to every quotation.
For an employee or director with private use, the taxable benefit normally starts with the car’s P11D value multiplied by the applicable BiK percentage. Personal tax then depends on the individual’s income tax rate and any relevant adjustments. The percentage is not the tax rate applied to the lease rental. A sole trader’s own business car use follows different rules.
The agreement can cross several tax years. Compare the whole path, not just the percentage in the year the car arrives.
| Tax specification | 2026/27 | 2027/28 | 2028/29 | 2029/30 |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Zero-emission electric car, where applicable | 4% | 5% | 7% | 9% |
| Qualifying PHEV: 1-50 g/km; certified electric range 30-39 miles | 14% | 15% | 18% | 19% |
| Qualifying PHEV: 1-50 g/km; certified electric range 40-69 miles | 10% | 11% | 18% | 19% |
| Qualifying PHEV: 1-50 g/km; certified electric range 70-129 miles | 7% | 8% | 18% | 19% |
| High-CO2 petrol or qualifying diesel at the maximum band | 37% | 37% | 38% | 39% |
These are conditional tax bands, not assigned rates for every Audi. Confirm the supplied car’s P11D, certified CO2, fuel type and registration date. Diesel supplements can apply where the required emissions certification is absent, subject to the annual maximum.
The electric-mile figures above are HMRC band thresholds, not promises of this car’s driving range. Newer plug-in hybrid certification can show more than 50 g/km. A temporary company-car easement may treat an eligible car as 1 g/km where the registration date, electric range and Euro-status conditions are met; it is not automatic and must not be transferred to lease-rental deductions. Check the vehicle documents and HMRC’s plug-in hybrid conditions with your accountant.
Use our company-car BiK guide alongside HMRC’s 2026/27 and 2027/28 tables and the published 2028/29 and 2029/30 changes. Tax information checked 24 September 2026 against the C1 ledger and its primary sources. Tax treatment depends on individual circumstances and may change; consult your accountant.
Vehicle Excise Duty (VED). For 2026/27, the standard annual VED payment after the first year is £200 before any supplement. First-year VED depends on CO2 and registration rules; zero-emission cars currently have a £10 first-year rate. These cash rates apply to 2026/27 only; later annual VED rates are not confirmed here. Ask how the funder treats tax increases during your agreement.
Expensive Car Supplement. The Expensive Car Supplement is £440 a year in 2026/27 for five years from the second licence. The list-price threshold is more than £40,000 for petrol, diesel and hybrid cars, or more than £50,000 for qualifying zero-emission cars registered from 1 April 2025. Use the published list price before discounts, including relevant options, and check the registration date. Plug-in hybrids do not receive the electric-car threshold. GOV.UK explains VED and the supplement.
Planned eVED. The government plans Electric Vehicle Excise Duty (eVED) from April 2028, alongside VED: 3p per mile for electric cars and 1.5p per mile for plug-in hybrids. This is proposed for April 2028, subject to legislation and implementation; it is not a charge currently in force. The stated rates are planned starting rates, with CPI uprating proposed from 2029/30 and later cash rates not confirmed. An agreement spanning introduction needs the funder’s written treatment of the charge and later changes. Check the government’s consultation response and final implementation guidance before committing.
If an electric Audi is on the shortlist, identify where it will spend the hours between journeys. Home, workplace and public charging have different access conditions and tariffs. Build the plan around dependable locations rather than a charger you might occasionally use.
For longer business trips, consider both outward and return legs and allow a practical reserve. The charger’s rating alone does not establish how quickly the car will charge: vehicle capability, battery state, temperature and site conditions also matter. Compare a relevant charging window for the exact derivative rather than a peak figure detached from the journey.
A plug-in hybrid should be assessed using the expected balance of charged local travel and longer engine-led driving. Published combined consumption does not predict every motorway journey. For all powertrains, wheels, load, weather and speed can change the result, so treat official figures as structured comparisons rather than personal forecasts.
Audi UK states headline new-car cover of up to three years or 60,000 miles, whichever comes first. Read the detailed terms for the early-year mileage treatment and the vehicle’s actual start date. Battery degradation cover is separately described for electric and plug-in hybrid cars and should not be assumed identical.
Compare the warranty with the intended lease length and mileage. A maintenance package is separate and should state whether scheduled services, tyres and other wear items are included. Confirm the service schedule for the exact car and the approval process for work; retaining records helps both warranty administration and the eventual return.
An Avant should be assessed with the load you need to carry, including the opening, floor and space with the rear seats in use. A Sportback label may refer to a shape that changes rear headroom or loading access, so compare the actual body rather than relying on a family-level luggage figure.
On Q7 and Q9 enquiries, establish the passenger arrangement before powertrain and equipment. Audi’s UK Q9 reference offers a standard seven-seat layout and a six-seat Lounge Pack configuration. That does not establish what an individual IVF quotation includes. For Q7, do not transfer the seat count from one derivative to a plug-in hybrid without confirmation.
A performance Audi also needs everyday checks: parking clearance, wheel and tyre specification, passenger comfort and the way the car will be insured. RS 3, RS 5, RS 6 and RS e-tron GT serve different briefs. A shared badge does not imply a shared powertrain, current-order status or running-cost profile.
Tell IVF your annual mileage, regular passengers, essential equipment, charging access where relevant and preferred timing. Ask for the precise model year, derivative, options and registration status to be written into the quotation. The catalogue is a starting point; the offered vehicle and funder terms need confirmation.
Business Contract Hire is taken by the business; Personal Contract Hire is taken by the private individual. Both are subject to status and individual funder criteria. Compare the initial rental, term, mileage, maintenance and applicable fees on the same basis. An initial rental is part of the hire cost, not refundable security or ownership equity.
A manufacturer warranty starts under the supplied car’s warranty terms, normally from first registration. Its time and mileage limits may finish before your lease does. It is separate from optional servicing and tyre cover. Confirm maintenance inclusions, insurance responsibilities, tax provisions and early-termination terms before signing.
At the end of contract hire, return the vehicle; there is no contractual purchase option. Excess mileage, damage beyond the funder’s fair wear and tear standard, missing equipment or other contractual charges may still be payable. Check the return process before choosing your agreement.
Use the model pages to resolve body and generation questions before requesting comparable quotations. BMW and Mercedes-Benz are relevant alternatives for executive and SUV tasks; the electric hub supports a wider e-tron comparison once the charging plan is clear.
Continue with business car leasing, Business Contract Hire, Personal Contract Hire, electric car leasing, prestige car leasing, the company-car BiK guide, the director’s leasing guide, a callback request. Relevant comparisons and guidance: VAT on business leasing, bmw leasing, mercedes benz leasing.
Yes. IVF can discuss Business Contract Hire for your business and driver requirements, subject to status and individual funder criteria. Provide the body style, annual mileage, charging arrangements and essential equipment so the quotation addresses the actual use.
Match generation, body, powertrain and options before comparing the agreement. Confirm term, mileage, initial-rental structure and maintenance on the same basis. A current Audi model name can sit beside older catalogue specifications, so identify the exact vehicle.
The current A5 serves the executive Saloon and Avant role previously associated with A4. Earlier A5 Coupe, Cabriolet or Sportback descriptions are different generation references. Check the actual body and model year in the quotation.
No. A6 and A6 e-tron require a clear powertrain distinction. The electric family’s battery, charging and tax information cannot be applied to a combustion or plug-in A6 simply because the model number is shared.
No. The combustion Q8 and the separate electric Q8 e-tron are different models. Q8 e-tron is discontinued; a current electric-SUV enquiry should compare Q6 e-tron and other confirmed alternatives rather than assume new Q8 e-tron supply.
Audi UK says it no longer builds new RS 6 Avant cars for the UK. IVF’s retained route does not prove a factory order or remaining vehicle. Any specific new-car supply needs confirmation before quotation.
Audi UK presents the current RS 5 Saloon and Avant generation as plug-in hybrid. Earlier Coupe and Sportback specifications should not be carried across. Confirm the exact body, equipment, charging requirement and tax documents for the car offered.
Audi’s UK reference specifies seven seats as standard or six with the Lounge Pack. The quotation must identify the actual seating configuration. A UK pre-order page does not establish IVF allocation or delivery timing.
The contract provides use of the specified car for the stated term and mileage, with IVF’s named specialist support and free UK delivery. Confirm road-tax provisions, optional maintenance, insurance responsibilities and all applicable fees.
Return the vehicle under the funder’s mileage, condition and equipment requirements. There is no contractual purchase option. Keep servicing records and supplied accessories, and arrange the next vehicle separately from the collection date.
